"You know, there's a word for someone like you ... naive." "Well, there's also a word for someone like you ... womaniser."
Temperance Brannigan knew from the beginning that Priestly Sawyer was trouble. Due to a University housing screw up, she finds herself stuck sharing a flat with him. With his bad boy looks and unfriendly demeanour, it was a given that he was going to interfere with her bookish ways. He throws wild parties, has a womanising reputation and doesn't miss an opportunity to insult Temperance. However, with nowhere else to go, she has to learn to tolerate him but he isn't making it easy ...
Priestly Sawyer knew from the beginning that Temperance Brannigan would be insufferable. Forced to live with her, he just knows that she's going to be a pain-in-the-ass. With her nerdy glasses and studious ways, it was a given that she was going to interfere with his partying. She throws him wary looks, always has her nose stuck in a book and tries to avoid him at all costs. So, Priestly concocts a plan to annoy her so much that she has no choice but to leave. However, he didn't count on Temperance making it so damn difficult ...
I could NOT finish this book. I just couldn't. I tried. For weeks. Just so that I could feel like I could write a fully informed honest review. But I just didn't have it in me. It was awful. I hated the characters, the writing was stilted, there was pointless and excessive cursing. I don't mind some language, but when it is so frequent, derogatory, and meaningless it gets annoying.
The love interest has NO redeeming qualities. He is self-important, a man-whore, and has fewer brain cells than your average ant. The girl... it just tries too hard to make her seem innocent and yet have a backbone and it Just Didn't Work.
Even the side characters were annoying. The stereotypical gay guy friend who just HAS to take her shopping. Seriously??? At one point he says something along the lines of 'this is what I live for'. No. Just no. It's almost offensive in its in-your-face stereotype.
I was getting a little Pride and Prejudice vibe with the whole Nixon/Priestly thing. And Pride and Prejudice is like GOLD to me. It is the HOLY GRAIL of romance and the beginning (in my mind) of women who kick ass in literature. (Both as characters and authors!) So let is say something that even with that P&P vibe, I still HATED this book. SO much that I couldn't even stand to read another page.
I haven't written a review in ages but this book NEEDS one! I can't keep this on my chest!!
This book literally sounded like a 5 year old wrote it! The adjectives were basic and repeated; "He visibly paled" x4 "her wicked smile" x100,000 "His evil grin" x100,000,000,000,000 It also sounded like the characters were toddlers, everything they said made me cringe so bad I just wanted to curl into a ball and hide from this book -_- "Dude! I'm stuck with some chick!" "Dude! Throw one of your legendary parties!" "Dude! This is party central!" "Dude is this chick hot?" The the only reason I kept reading this book was because I try to read every book to the end because I hate not knowing things and the main reason was because it was so bad I had to see what else the author could do to make it worse!
To prove my point further that this book was written by a an adolescent, the grammar in this book was... Let me not! Whole words were missed out!! How did that go unnoticed!!!!! Tbh, I preferred everyone better towards the end - except Priestly- because they all grew up a bit especially Carter, who I couldn't stand as he sounded like a crystal meth addict! (Okay...someone needs to calm down!) Another thing with this book was that Priestly was claimed to be a 'womaniser' now if we look at the facts... Priestly if you ask me was close to tears when he didn't get to hook up with Britney... Even though he was at a party FULL of girls and since he is a supposed 'lady's man' why would it matter if you didn't get one girl, shouldn't it be her crying not him? In fact he didn't hook up with ANYONE apart from that one girl -sandie I think it was- and tbh I'm not even sure if they actually did sleep together or she just needed a place to sleep. His comments about not attending class, partying all night, drinking, 'chicks' got on my nerves! He just sounded down right stupid! Is he trying to tell that university's have classes just for fun?! Just a little decoy so people think your actually learning?! But what they really want out to do is party EVERY single day?!?!?!?
I need to stop this review now before I burst from annoyance over this book! It had such a good storyline to it as well but it was ruined by stupidity, grammar mistakes and fools :( Overall I gave it 2 stars, 1 for the heroine and Anson - the only people I liked throughout and 1 for the storyline - even if it was ruined -_-
Thought this was a cute sweet read. The characters of Temperance and Priestly were 18 years old and first year in college so really not too mature.....which explains their non-stop bickering and petty fighting...which sounds about right for that age. Really thought this was so right on in keeping with that age.....bought back college memories. Lets not forget the simmering passion that is just laying right under the surface of all their bickering......so sexy. They both go through some emotional trauma and heartbreak which adds depth to this book. Some scenes could have been longer and a little more complete instead of leaving you guessing what really happened but you can use your imagination.....so really nothing is missing. A nice sweet read without X-rated sex scences....so more of a PG-13 rating.
What do i think of this book? There are a lot of words that came in thinking while reading this book. But 1 thing for sure, i don't like it. Temperance's POV is "meh, it's okay." But on the other hand, Priestly's POV is annoying the fuck out of me, i just felt that a girl *the really annoying and bitchy one" is speaking to me instead of a guy's voice. Priestly's POV is nothing like a guy's. Speaking POVs, the excessive swearing is tiring and annoying the shit out of me. Priestly swears all the time, as if Joanne tries to make him a guy, but with all his girly talk and tone, it just screams "I'M A BOY WITH A GIRL'S BRAIN AND SOUL AND AM TRYING TO HARD TO BE A BOY" to me. Sure. Maybe you like this book. Love it even. But i just don't. Sorry.
VERY ENJOYABLE . I really liked this book. It was funny in a bizarre kind of way. Temperance and Priestly were by no fault of their own housed together at the college housing. They fight like Wildcats at first then they start bickering back and forth then they just ignore each other. Lol. It was really kind of predictable. Things start to change after Temperance meets a guy and start to date. Thing start to fall apart after a few tough situations. I can recommend this book to everyone but if you're a diehard Contemporary/Erotic Romance junkie like me then this book is not for you. It's like the difference between a Tiger and a Kitten, this book being the Kitten. It's take I was this close to not finishing it.
If you are looking for a good read for new adult this is not it. I was transported back to high school except they were living together! The story dragged on and on and on! And what was up with "nerd girl"? No freaking way would that happen! This was a huge Waste of my money
I'm a sucker for stories about two opposites that bicker but are drawn together. This is probably because I married my asshole, and I wouldn't regret it, even for a second. Haha. I felt so at home in this story. There were a few spelling errors and wording errors, but it didn't take away from the story. Spelling is so overrated anyway. I really enjoyed this tale! ❤️
I thought that the story was pretty good but I didn't like all the time shifts. some of the scenes could have been longer but the book was really good. I also love temperance because in exactly like her.
This started very slow, picked up and exploded but in the end, ended abruptly almost like a cliffhanger with no intention to continue (not a series). I'll give it 3 1/2 *s purely for the potential it has.
3 stars for this one. It was a cute read and exactly what I was looking for at the time. The writing was OK, but it seemed like it might be this authors first run around?
Also, can we say exclamation points! I mean, seriously, it's like everyone was yelling at everyone all the time..
Loved it! Absolutely aggravating but, absolutely wonderfully! Can't stop rereading it over and over! It deserves all five stars! This book is by far my favorite.
Ooh! It was cute! I see how the characters can be seen as childish and immature, but I think is because we are accustomed to read about pretty mature teens (at least for their age) at the YA genre.
