Okay. I finished this book a few days ago now and I think I'm ready to write a review. It's not that great. It's weird. I feel myself being drawn to these characters. I like them and I don't mind spending time with them. I just don't think they're in the right hands. They're not being given very interesting stories or even very interesting things to say. I don't understand how an author could come up with such intriguing characters, but then not be able to tell their stories properly. It upsets me. They deserve better than this.
Let's start off with my first complaint. All the men in this book (with the slight exception of Mr. Black) speak exactly the same. Most notably, Mr. Red and Mr. White. Barely anything differentiates these men. Even Blue and Brown sometimes sound the same way. I do understand the subtle differences between them, but they don't have unique enough personalities. I think that's why I'm always rooting for Black when I'm reading. He's the best guy there, so why does Alex feel nothing for him?? Drives me crazy. And IF she's going to feel something for White, why not actually do anything about it????? They should at least talk about their feelings or kiss or something! It's not even sexual tension, the way it's written. Not that it has to be some crazy romance novel, it definitely shouldn't be, but please! Give something ! I'm begging you!
JC Phelps needs an editor badly too. I can overlook the occasional typo, really I can. But not like this. First of all, learn the difference between "your" and "you're"; "their", "there" and "they're"; and "its" and "it's". Those mistakes are unforgivable in my reader's mind. I can't take it. Secondly, make sure you know what the words mean that you're choosing to use. Well known phrases are repeatedly misused. Common sayings are just wrong. There's not any other way to explain it. Here's an example: It's not "for all intensive purposes". It's "for all intents and purposes". That type of mistake is made THROUGHOUT the entire series and it has been driving me crazy.
I have to mention the cover art again. I do realize that in this day and time, when the major bookstores are disintegrating before our eyes, covers may not seem like they matter as much anymore. Everything is digital and small thumbnail covers are overlooked. But I personally disagree. No longer do we have the luxury of flipping through a book, skimming the back cover, etc. ALL WE HAVE is the cover! To me, it becomes one of the most important things I look at when deciding to buy a book. Here are some tips. Don't have a solid color background with no differentiation at all. It's boring. Don't EVER EVER EVER use the same font for the title of the book as for the author's name! NEVER! Do something more interesting than just generic silhouettes that you found in your computer's clip art folder. And even if that's not where you got the images from, take my point --- it LOOKS like that's where you got them from so wherever you really did get them from is irrelevant. You really, really need the help of a graphic designer. And if you can't afford a graphic designer, then go to a bookstore (yes, some of them do still exist) and take a look at some successful covers. Take pictures. Make notes about what makes them successful. Buy Photoshop. Learn how to use it. Get advice from other people -- not only friends and family. Post the images in a Goodreads discussion thread and ask strangers' opinions. Take their criticism and advice. Make changes. Then, when you have AMAZING new covers, then re-release your books (hopefully they've been re-edited by this point) and publicize that you have new editions with new cover art. Do giveaways. Do blog posts. Once people start seeing your amazing new covers, they will assume that the book is as good as the cover is and they will be WAY more likely to buy it.
I hope some of this helps you. I don't mean to be snarky about it, but come on. There is A LOT of competition out there and your stuff has to be top notch if you want to compete with the best. You have an awesome start, you just need to give these stories some more work. I hope you take the time to do it. Your characters are worth it.

I wasn’t impressed with the first book in this series, but I thought Alex had potential. Unfortunately I didn’t think she actually developed very much in this book and I still find the Alex / Mr White relationship incredibly irritating.
My main problem with this book was it just didn’t go anywhere. There was a lot of hanging around and pages and pages of boring training followed by a temper tantrum from Alex. The climax to the story could have been quite interesting, but I just found it ridiculous.

The story line in book two was not nearly as strong as it was in book one. Part of what I liked about the first book (aside from it being a Kindle free read) was that it had action, character build up, and was an all around entertaining book. This book continued the character build, but it didn't seem to go deep enough. If that was where my critique ended, I would have given this book 3 stars. However, this book was absolutely littered with grammatical errors. If I had read this with a red pen, I would have run out of ink! I found simple grammar mistakes such as not knowing the difference between "to" and "too", sentences changing tenses, and even words used in the wrong context. I don't want to sound like a disapproving English teacher, but had I submitted this work in class, it would have been given back to me with instructions to, "Do Over".
I really wanted to like this book because I enjoyed the first one so much and because I actually paid for this book, but I just could not get past the complete and total lack of editing that this book received. I will most likely read the third installment of this trilogy and I really hope that I get my money's worth. My fingers are crossed.

There were several sections I loved so much I went back and read them again after I was finished with the book. I thought it was funny that Alex wants to be treated like one of the guys, but acts just like a girl when she's upset of feels slighted in any way.
I loved it when she beat up the guys who drugged her and took her to the warehouse. The book is so much fun.

I really enjoyed this book. I like the storyline of these books. I personally think that these books need more action and dialogue. I found myself wanting to get through parts that were in my opinion too many descriptions. I liked the when they were at the cable and they played a game I thought seemed like "hide and seek." Alexis had growth in these books. She had finally realized that she isn't all that.

Perplexed by her new talent she goes back to the office after overhearing a conversation that makes her mad. She then gets several assignments to research several people. One of these people is "Penumbra" who turns out to be her mom. Which explains her ability to snipe so well. She got it from her mom. I liked these books. These books have technical issues, but if you just want a good story to read this would be a way to go. I do intend to read the other books though.

I think this book just went downhill after Grey took off in a tizzy without telling anyone where she was going all the while having a contract out on her life. She was rude to the building security and what was up with that stupid elevator scene?
In addition the story was completely boring from that point forward with step by step details of every single minute of online research. The Penumbra twist was not a twist at all and completely obvious.

Great story line. But I feel that Alex makes irrational decisions... like drinking. For being so smart, she doesn't do well with her decisions regarding alcohol. That mixed with J.C.'s writing style, which is not a preference of mine, makes me give this book 4 stars. It was almost 3, but I gave it 4.

This book is over the top. Alex should be considered a Mary Sue. However, she is likeable, which is the one thing that keeps this book readable.

In Shades of Grey, book two of the Alexis Stanton chronicles, J.C. Phelps creates an ideal sequel. The story continues where Color Me Grey left off and carries the continuing story arc of Alex Stanton - also known as Ms. Grey - and her work as an agent with White and Associates. Though the books are connected, each one tells a succinct and contained story so they can be enjoyed individually as episodic adventures. Of course, once the reader has a taste of Alex Stanton's life, one book is definitely not enough!
Once again it is the endearing characters that fill this novel with heart. Alex is kind and caring, but also sassy and strong - keeping pace with her male colleagues. The relationships in the book are realistic and believable and the story delves deeper into Alex's family and her growing friendships with her coworkers. The romantic tension between Alex and Mr. White continues to build, and Alex is all the more likable for her character's wisdom and integrity. She doesn't simply fall into bed with the men she's attracted to but thinks honestly about her relationships and the results of romantic attachments.
Phelps keeps the action high and layers on the intrigue throughout the book. It's a delight to witness Alex develop her skills, holding her own as the heroine, as tough and talented as her male counterparts. For those that loved Color Me Grey, Shades of Grey is a wonderful continuation. The third book in the series Reflections of Grey also promises more of the same, and I can't wait to read it!

A great second book in the series by J.C. Phelps. I liked the first one a bit better, but this one was very enjoyable too.
This time the bad guys were after Alex herself and she had a lot of time on her hands trying to stay hidden. In this book, you got to know all of the other characters a lot better and I liked learning more about them. They all have great personalities and I love how they interact with one another. I was turned on to this series by a friend. Of course she had downloaded it because of the "fifty" nuance in descriptions. She told me how cute and light the first book was so I got it for free while at the beach. I couldn't stop reading it. No it is NOT like Fifty Shades...NO it is not the best ever written. Get over yourself if you are expecting something great. It's a book and it's entertainment. I have loved the story. Into book three we go!!!

These books are OK, if not overly original.
For me, the most annoying part is jarring spelling / punctuation errors that detract from the reading. Maybe it's just me being pedantic, but they irritate.
As a book, it's a bit popcorn, but easy to read and entertaining. The ending feels *very* rushed, it's all rammed into the final two or three pages, so lots of build-up (I'd figured it all by about halfway through, but that's a personal thing) and very little climax. (Story of my life)

Like book 1, book 2 in this series has a storyline that is fast moving but lacking character development. Despite that, I did enjoy the story. If you can get past the fact that there are a bunch of grammatical errors and the book is poorly edited you'll find yourself wanting to know what happens next. 3 stars--I liked it but was left feeling like it didn't fully meet my expectations. I hope the author keeps working on this series--it has potential if she can get it to the next level.

"The Alexis Stanton Chronicles" was a great book originally downloaded the first book "Color me Grey" for free loved the characters and had to purchase the series.
Unfortunately Barnes and Noble didn't have book two "Shades of Grey" and did have "The Alexis Stanton Chronicles" all three series for $6.50 great price for a good book.
J.C. Phelps I hope you are going to continue this series for I am hanging and grasping for what ifs with White and Grey.

I have read all three of these novels and I must say I found them to be a tad unbelievable but I think I secretly wished I were Alexis Stanton. It is refreshing that a women can be a member of elite team and hold her own. I am sure they exist. (But I am sure they are not all as beautiful or rich). I loved the interaction between her and the team, especially Mr White. Well worth reading.

The second book is as good as the first but I figured out who Penumbra waa early on so it was a bit of a let down when it was finally revealed. Also I found myself getting annoyed at Ms. Grey and her short temper and ego.
However, it was a good quick read and I can't wait to read book three. Will White and Grey finally give in to each other?

I really enjoyed the first book, but there's nothing new in this one, just some bad writing. It could be decent if it were completely rewritten by someone who can actually write, and had a different title.

Not as good as book one. After I saw all the grammatical, syntax and spelling errors I looked into this Smashwords publishing deal. The content is pretty good on this one, but the author could've used an editor at this self-publishing house.

I wanted to give this 3 stars. It was a good read. Having said that, it's poorly written. Lots of run-on sentences, incorrect tenses, your/you're and their/there misuses...and my favorite: repel/rappel. I'm no English major, but it killed that extra star for me.
