The Quiet Place: Daily Devotional Readings

Rate this book

Few subjects evoke such feelings of guilt, failure, and frustration as the matter of daily devotions.  Of those who do have a devotional life, many approach it with a sense of duty. Others have tried and failed so many times they are tempted to give up. And then there are those whose lives bear the sweet, rich fruit of meeting with God on a consistent basis.  The Quiet Place will call one and all to a daily time of reflection and meditation on God's character, attributes, and purpose.  In The Quiet Place , readers will find the 'best of Nancy Leigh DeMoss' from her classic works: Brokenness, Surrender, Holiness, Choosing Gratitude, Lies Women Believe, and others --  compiled in a 365 day devotional that will usher readers into the throne room of God.  There they will find peace, light, and hope for their daily walk.

This is a Christian devotional that has 366 daily devotions that begin with a Bible verse and then have a page of application or explanation to go with the verse. They end with questions that cause the reader to reflect on what they’ve read.

What I Liked: I’ve always enjoyed Nancy Leigh DeMoss as a speaker, I have seen her on videos and feel that she has been blessed with a practical teaching ability. I found these devotions to be impactful and thought provoking. As a Christian, I recognize the importance of spending time daily with God but if I’m being honest, I will admit that I don’t always take the time to do so. This book is wonderful because the devotions are not long but they are still meaningful. I also love that at the end of the book there is a scripture index that shows each devotional based on each book of the Bible. This would be very helpful if you wanted to delve deeper into the meaning of a certain verse.

What I didn’t Like: I really loved everything about this book and can’t find any negative things.

I received this book from Moody Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

I am SO EXCITED to review The Quiet Place by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. Like I have said before here on My MisMatched World, that I LOVE devotionals. Well, this one is no different. This is a 366 day devotional, so you can go everyday of the year, even in a leap year. Can I get an AMEN!! Each day, there is a scripture piece, then a story. And at the very bottom of the page is a “call to action”.

I very much-needed this devotional. So, when I was checking out the books at Moody, I saw this one and let out a squeal. Oh, yes I did Internet. I was going CRAZY! I am super excited. Then the mail delayed the books. So Moody had to send them out again. I am so grateful to them for that! I so wanted The Quiet Place for my devotional. I highly urge you Internet to get a good devotional for your personal time with God.

By far the best daily devotional I have ever read. Each and every day was a call to wake up on something meaningful. Nancy Leigh DeMoss pulls no punches here. If you are looking for a light fluffy devotional this is not it. Huge eye opener for me. It is not heavy reading that is hard to get through, simple one page a day format, but each and every day contained challenging truths that will test and confront you, change and encourage you, and often convict you. I am going to go through this again starting today, it was that valuable. I suspect it would take a lifetime to apply everything in this book.

***If you're thirst for God, this is for you***

Nancy Leigh DeMoss, teacher, author and Revive Our Hearts radio show host considers herself a “wedding coordinator” and penned these devotions to help the “Bride get ready for the Wedding to their heavenly Bridegroom.” With devotions that encourage women to experience “freedom, fullness and fruitfulness in Christ” with daily readings in The Quiet Place.

Away from the blinking, chirping iPads, iPhones, e-mails and other devices that make it difficult to hear the still, small voice of the Lord necessary for intimacy. All it requires is to turn off all distractions, from the television to the telephones, to the computers or iPads, grab your favorite Bible, paper to write on if you journal and this devotional.

She begins with a hymn Emily May Grimes 1868-1927 wrote that begins, “Speak Lord, in the stillness, while I wait on Thee…” and the devotion, “First Thing.” The scripture is from Mark 1:35 about Jesus rising early and going to a quiet place to pray.

She recognizes some who make time for God do so out of a sense of obligation and routine that robs them of the “sweet rich fruit” that’s a result of drawing apart with God. Others have problems with consistency and still others relegate little or no time for such things, perhaps because they lack a thirst for God’s Word and don’t understand what they’re missing.

However, those who are thirsty, who long for intimacy with God, who recognize…Full Review:

This wonderful book is a Christian devotional that has 366 easy daily devotionals than open with a bible verse, followed by a paragraph about the verse with personal thought from the author or or how to apply it to your life. It usually ends with a questions and a challenge, but there is the occasional prayer.
The pretty blue imitation leather cover which is embossed with the title and a nice design really reflects the calm and peace reading this book can bring.
Taken from Nancy's many previous books, as well as some transcripts of her radio program, this devotional is timeless.
Whether you are new to devotionals or you have a bookshelf filled with them The Quiet Place is perfect for you!
Inspiring, it's a great little addition to ones day to bring you closer to God.

This is an amazing little devotional by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. It is a devotional that will take you through all 365 days of the year from January 1 to December 31.

Each day contains a verse, and application questions are the highlight of this great devotional. They are very specific and designed to bring out a response from the reader. These questions can help you as you mature in your spiritual journey and walk with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

This devotional is so beautiful, with its imitation leather cover, a size that is easy to handle and take anywhere, and would make a wonderful gift to any woman. This is something that I will read, re-read and keep by me always.

I highly recommend this devotional.

I received this as a First Reads book. I only got it a couple months ago, so I'm obviously only so far into it. That said, it's a decent little devotional. Different topics every day, starting with a Bible passage, followed by some personal thoughts of the writer, and ending with either a final thought or question to think over. Being year long, some days are obviously more interesting or hit closer for me than others.
I will update further as I finish more days and months.

When I received this book from the publisher, Moody Press, I was immediately delighted on account of the aesthetic qualities of this lovely book! The rich blue binding is crafted of leather which is embossed with a beautiful design. I thought the loveliness of the design quite fitting with the treasures contained on the pages within! Derived from many of Nancy DeMoss's previous books as well as from transcripts of her radio programs, the devotions in this book are compiled and organized to bring wisdom and peace to the reader daily for an entire year. Although published in 2012, this book is timeless as it presents the truth for all time: the truth from God's word! I encourage you to read each chapter carefully and dwell on each portion. Also, don't skip over the application questions which conclude each devotion. Let the Lord use this book in your life to bring you closer to Him!

From my first look at this delightful little book, I knew that it would be my devotional for the upcoming year. I look forward to learning from these chapters through 2015!
I will update this review as I continue to learn from this devotional!

It was a good devotional. Short. Impactful. It is written very accessibly but also is challenging in the application of scripture. I will do it again some year.

This is my favorite devotional, and I have gone through it a few times. I loved this book so much, I gave a copy to my mother, friend, daughters, sister, and sister-in-law! Every day, Nancy challenged me, encouraged me, and gave me great food for thought. It is also packaged with a sturdy and lovely blue leather-like cover, which makes it a really nice gift. I really can't say enough good things about this devotional. It is one I know I will use many times in the years to come.
