**4 "I read that in Granny's Book" Stars**

The series is definitely getting better as book progresses. Not only is the story and the characters developing but so is the author's writing.

I still got annoyed at Em's immaturity level and whining over 2 guys along with her self pity party of blaming herself for her stupid mistakes.

This book did captivate me and I felt that I couldn't put it down until I figured out what was going to happen next, who Em would choose to be with, or who was going to get killed off next.

Off to the next!

“He smiles, “You were born for this weren’t you?”
I shrug and look out the window. I have a feeling they’re laughing at me, even if they aren’t laughing out loud.
“She was born to fight.””

This was an interesting sequel, but I did find it a bit more confusing than the first book in the series.

I liked Emma in this book, but I was also slightly scared by her at points!

As Will pointed out, she ‘kills pretty easily’, and I have to agree! I lost count of the number of people - infected and human, that Emma dispatched in this book, and at times it felt a little unnecessary. I was also surprised that whilst she happily snapped necks, she claimed that she would never be able to kill her pet wolf Leo. Hmm, well I suppose at least she’s capable of some feeling, but the lack of respect for human life? Not good.

“She glances up at me and shakes her head, “You don’t let me infect them. You kill me. You swear to me now.”
I nod, “I swear.” The sick part is, I do. I would kill her if I had to. I would kill anyone, except Leo. I know I couldn’t ever kill him.”

The storyline in this did have action, but I found the quick jumps from one situation to the next often confused me, and I found myself having to go back and re-read whole chapters to try and work out what the heck was going on!

The best part of this book for me was the beginning, although I was initially confused (and had to go back and re-read the last 15% of book 1), Emma’s escape from the hospital where she was being held was actually really good, and really entertaining!

“Firstly, I know I am going to die escaping. I am too exhausted for it to be a perfect escape. I know I will die today. I can feel it in the air. I will escape today and die trying, and that is a better outcome than remaining tied to this table with this man.”

There was some romance in this story, and I was glad that we got a bit of a resolution to the love triangle! In fact it seemed like quite a few people were pairing off.

“I frown and take inventory of my feelings. I’m not scared. I want him. I want him to climb back on the bed. I want him to rub against me again.
I look at the door and nod, “see if it locks.”
He furrows his brown, “What?”
I swallow, still covering myself, “see if it locks.””

The ending to this was okay, but it wasn’t as good as the ending to the first book. The ending to this revolved around a lover’s tiff basically, which compared to Emma being shot with a dart by the enemy at the end of book 1, isn’t all that exciting. I hope the third book will be a little more action-packed!
6.5 out of 10

In an effort to be fair, I am going to begin with the good parts. There is a part of the plot about a government-run facility that I really enjoyed. The entire idea of the place was horrifying, the author provided great details that cemented the place in my imagination like it was real, and it really provided great insight into how the world was falling apart. It meshed well with the back story and experiences we learned about Emma in “Born”.

I also enjoyed the comic relief of Emma having absolutely no social skills whatsoever. Sure, she was rude, and she often knew it, but it was still fun to see how other characters reacted to her. When people who are rapists, live with zombies, and/or are part of some strange commune in the woods think someone is uncivilized, you know that the person has some issues.

Now for the bad. I think we all need to take up a collection to help the author find a good editor. There were entire paragraphs repeated, misused words, misspelled words, and an ever-annoying tendency to have a scene with multiple characters having a conversation that includes no names. It would simply be denoted by “he said” or “she said”. Who is he? Jake? Will? The dog? Casper the friendly ghost? The entire process of decoding large parts of the book was an exercise in frustration.

Since we have a good and a bad, it seems fitting to have an ugly. The ugly in this is the completely contrived and horrific love triangle. Firstly, one of the love interests is barely in the book, and although an altogether decent human being, this seems to be some sort of sin in the mind of those around him. Granted, I know he is a liability to survival, but at least he is not violent.

Which brings us to the next love interest, Will. He is an abusive jerk of a person and he knows it. It is like he was made to fit the list of “signs of an abuser”, and the main character keeps thinking that he is one, and yet the author portrays the entire thing as some sort of excellent antagonistic love story. The entire thing makes me so angry that I am literally shaking. Younger women may read this and take it as healthy and romantic. Why is it ok to know someone makes you feel bad about yourself and hurts you, but you still forgive them? It is not. Not even a little bit. Romanticizing it is absolutely irresponsible and reprehensible on the part of the author.

Strong words? Yes. I don’t regret them.

I will read the next one because I’m worried about the wolf.

The only thing I liked about this sequel was the cover.

I do not know what I was thinking when I started on this sequel. I should have known better. That is all.

The semi love triangle / romance aspect just ruined the book for me. Then the whole revelation about EMMA, then STAR, then the SHIT that happened to EMMA and ANNA, just made me queasy & completely turned me OFF. And again, the character development was rushed and unrealistic. The lack of editing was annoying. I cannot believe I actually finished the whole thing. I will not be continuing the series.

I certainly DO NOT recommend this series to anyone.

YIKES! How do straight girls deal with blokes?! I’d give this four stars if Will wasn’t such a five stage clinger, and he’s still an arse.

I love that Emma finds actual family that she can add to her chosen family. The kids are sweet as and I really hope nothing bad happens to them.

3.5 stars!
Not as good as the first book but overall still a good read. There were some small plot holes which I felt could have been filled in better but they were only small and didn't affect the overall performance of the book.
I'm intrigued to read the third book now and see how the trilogy finishes; hopefully the way I want it to!
Overall, a good read again, well written and very engrossing :)

For real the guy on the cover is really good looking! Gonna kill Tara that woman gives me happy and then just like that the woman pulls it out from under me, gonna kill her I really am! Just to let everyone know there is a SPOILER QUOTE in this review so that basically means that if you haven't read the book don't read this review I'm kinda not gonna worry about haters hating on my reviews at this particular moment in my life because well some s*** went down in the book and this is me getting it off my chest. Now with that being said Emma has grown and gone through some things since we last saw the dear girl, she has grown some balls let me tell you what, (well okay she had some in the first book but this time around she has more) "I was pregnant for like a minute? My wolf is being held because he's immune? I'm a mutant breed farm baby? My dad is my uncle and my uncle is my dad?" I glance at him. "And you're mad because the world is filled with crappy racist people who lie and hurt others?" Will is still trying to win Emma's affections, or just in her pants (I love him to pieces but some of the things he did would not fly with me) "Emma, what do I have to do, besides carry you around for miles, to show you I care about you? How about when I cam for you when Marshall sold you out? Or when I defended you to Marshall?" Jake let me just tell you this hunny, Jealousy doesn't look good on you, "Okay. Wow. I feel like an idiot. I thought you were smarter than this. You want him because he's strong and smart in the forest? Really?" Will is still bossy, and well scary but he's also honest (on some things) "Because I want you, Emma. I want you and me and the god damned wolf to go and live and be together. If I have to endure getting bit and shoved to the ground every day for the rest of his life, I will. If I have to walk into the lion's den and help kill your dad so you can go back to being a hermit, I will." Now in "Born" I loved both Jake and Will in this book Leo (yes the wolf) has got my heart. And once again wanting to kill Tara for that freakin' cliffhanger!

I read this in a few hours; I couldn’t put the damn book down. It upsets me this is only a trilogy and the next book is the last one; I’ve grown to love these characters.

Emma’s ferocious love to hold onto what’s still good about the world crumbling down around them; Will’s stupid stupid… idiotic ways to show he loves her but fumbling along the whole way still managing to keep her near; Anna’s love for her brother’s and Emma, and doing anything to protect them even at the risk of her own life; Meg’s blunt way of speaking and keeping everyone on their toes; and even Jake’s fumbling, big cuddly bear ways.

I hate when an actually great series comes to an end, but I guess I’d rather it come to a proper end, than let it drag out and the characters grow dim. Im really excited for the next (and final) installment to the series.

This series has a LOT of descriptive passages, and normally I can’t stand novels that do, and barely have dialogue (the second book is better about the dialogue and it makes sense as to why once you read the series) … but this author has a way of wrapping this world around you and sucking you into it. I may have to give her other series a shot if it’s written anywhere near as well as these.

I do admit I noticed a LOT more grammatical/formatting errors in this one (an entire paragraph is repeated in one section for example), but for a $1.00 eBook, I’m really not complaining. Plus, it didn’t take away from the story at all … my brain just figured out what the word was supposed to be and kept on reading like I couldn’t get enough of it (and I can’t).

It has been a while since I have been this in love with characters … I forgot what it was like (:

Everything a sequel should be! We find some answers, more questions, we get some closure and new wounds! Every time I read a book from this author I'm in awe. I don't know how she does it but I'm wrapped up in another world every. Single. Time. Tara Brown is a magical story teller and she has weaved her wand through all these pages just for your enjoyment!
Em wakes up tied up every day to the same metal table with the same sinister eyes that glare at her and crinkle in the ends when he's enjoying her torture. She's ready to die, but not under his terms and not without the sun in her face. Em has fought many battles but none like this one! This one is for herself. This one is for her new "us" her new friends that have quickly become family. They are faced against all the odds and no one knows who to trust. She has an agenda and that's to stop all those who started it! It's to stop the main guy and doing that may be the hardest thing she will ever do. Finding out who is behind it all may be someone's harshest reality!
Our favorite survival pals are at it again in Born To Fight! Em, Leo, Anna, Jake, and Will begin a new fight not for themselves but for everyone! But with he infected all around them and people you can't trust hunting for them are they destined to always fight for survival? Find out when you pick up one of the best sequels I've read in a really long time!! I give this book my thumbs up!

This was an okay read, but i didn't like it as much as the first.

Emma was an alright character, but she annoyed me at points.

The first book was great, but this one just fell flat for me. It didn't have as much action, the characters weren't as likable as they were in book one, and i just didn't enjoy it as much. I'm hoping this one was just a victim of second book syndrome, and the third one is better.

Overall, Disappointing.

Through the flashes of light from the hallway, I see something I never expected. Jesus is gazing down on me with huge wide-open arms. He’s smiling and telling me everything is going to be okay. I drag myself into the room and kick the door shut. As the door closes, the light leaves us. Me and Jesus, perfect strangers, sit alone in the dark. I don’t introduce myself. He will know me soon enough.

Here I am late to the BORN series party and I just can't get enough. But bear with me as I speak my piece. I was a nervous wreck when I finished BORN. I was perplexed as to why Marshall would do such a thing. What was his deal? What is he trying to accomplish? What happened to Emma? So I hurriedly picked up BORN TO FIGHT and got lost in the the goodness that it is.

I have loved these characters so very much since the moment I started this series. And their misfit group has grown a bit more over these last two books. Even though I enjoy Emma’s character, she has her moments where I want to shake the ever loving crap out of her and just say, “Shut up, sit down, and freaking listen to your friends for once.” She can be hard to love at times, but even harder to hate. And for real...it’s the post apocalypse! You are going to be hard pressed to find a guy that is a total package.

I still adore Will. Probably even more so in this book. And I will probably catch a lot of flack for those feelings. But it would take a lot to convince me that he doesn’t have true feelings for Emma. I look forward to see how this series ends and if he gets his girl and a happily ever after.

I did notice some errors, but not enough to upset the balance of the book and my feelings for it. One of the problems I did have was one of the many times Emma went off on Will for his “past relations” with Star. It drove me batty thinking that we may have finally gotten past it, only to have to endure another tantrum. Like I said...apocalypse/no total package guys/insert eye roll here.

I rated this book 4.5 Stars but always round to the next whole star when leaving reviews on sites such as Amazon, Goodreads, ets….

After devouring Born, by Tara Brown I eagerly bought the second book in the Born serie's, Born to Fight, and couldn't wait to see how Em,Anna's, Jake's, Will's and of course Leo's story played out.
The second book starts off basically right where Born had left off. There was plenty of action as we followed the crew around to see how they worked together and destroyed breeder farms, and Em go on a revenge journey. There was plenty of drama with the love triangle between Jake, Emma, and Will. Like I said in my last review of Born, I don't usually do love triangles very well. But for some reason I liked this one, maybe because this one was more interesting because it involved two brothers in love with the same bad ass chick! The love triangle only deepens during Born to Fight, but also there is a decision made through out this book, that I thought I was pretty happy with.

I first liked this series because of the characters. I thought each main character that got to appear in this book were very well developed, and each had their own little characteristic within their personality that made this book very enjoyable. But the further I read this book, the more I got disappointed. You find out the Em's dad, REAL Dad, is the one who began this virus that has taken over the world, and that Em is one of the first Gen babies that everyone has been getting impregnated with at the breeder farms. This twist, I did not expect, but I do not think I liked too much. The book, for me anyway, started to remind me of Resident Evil in a way. With the fresh and clean cities, to the crazy killer kids that were made in a science lab, this leaves many questions to be unanswered, like how come Em isn't all mean and crazy because she was made in a science lab as well?? And if it was as easy as, disciplining them when they were young, and the main scientist dude figures he can fix the problem as to why all the gen babies are nutso crazy, why doesn't he start disciplining them differently or something?? I think this part of the story wasn't really thought-out thoroughly, and it was poorly executed.

The story goes along, you get all excited because Em and Will finally do the deed. Yay, right!?! Then she finally finds out the chick she's hated all along, Star, because she dresses like a hoochie mama and is always all up on her man, is actually her sister in some weird " we were created in a science lab" way. Cool, she doesn't have to worry about Star so much anymore. Finally we can move on from Em's jealousy tendencies. THEN, Star and Jake hook up. Weird, but hey now we can move on. But then the books ends to where Em finds out that Will and Star slept together while she was in the breeder farms fighting for her life, even though her and Will were not even together at the time, and in fact she still wasn't sure if she wanted to be with Will OR Jake still. So why be mad? Will comes and begs for forgivness, why I do not understand he did nothing wrong, and then Em made up her mind she doesn't wanna be with him anymore! Ok, but this is how the book ends! You're kidding, right?! This has nothing to do with survival, no zombies, just a plan ol' oops I slept with your sister before I got with you twist. This ending leaves Much to be desired. The entire second book is about her wanting to seek out revenge on her real father, but in all actuality they never even get close to doing that. I will read the next book in the series, and hope that it gets better from Born to Fight. I loved Born, and I just hope that the last in the series answers more questions, and gets back to why I fell in love with this series in the first place. It seemed to me the author ran out of things to write about, so she just started garbling stuff into the pages.

These are the kinds of reviews I hate to write. I want to say 5 stars, LOVED it...because I really read late into the night. But I can't explain why. I will break it into love/hate:

Love:

The story / world - I am really into the world these people live in. The government conspiracies, secret labs, etc. It's very well written (for the most part - I'm still VERY confused about the geography). There are a lot of things that have been done, but I really think it's a great story.

Hate:

most of the characters - but honestly, this falls under love/hate for most of them. I want to give the main character a pass because she has lived alone in the woods for 10 years. But I can't. Because she CONTINUOUSLY talks (to herself) about her Granny and how her Granny raised her with manners and all that. So...you just forgot them? Although you remember them? Doesn't make sense. But she has grown. She cares. She keeps letting people into her life/family. Which shows some growth...now if she will just stop acting like a jerk. No, being an ass is not being a "strong woman". You can be strong and assertive and not hurt people's feelings needlessly with personal attacks. Jake - ahh...he's sweet most of the time, but yes, in 10 years, he should have learned SOMETHING. Anna is ok. I get Sarah and Meg mixed up. and Will...i still dislike him. I don't care if he carries her from the Atlantic to the Pacific on broken glass. He's an abuser. Classically so. He makes her feel bad about herself, then turns it on her. He actually physically abuses her. But everyone in the book says how she will forgive him for the things he's done. No. Never. You do not EVER accept that. No, he isn't the unruly bad boy who you can tame with your love. He's an abuser. He will not change. it is who he is. RIDICULOUS.

ok, rant done. Again, i will continue this series..mostly because I know there is only one book left. And, i like the background and want to know where this goes.

I like the development of the characters and how Emma has grown and changed. If I had to complain about anything in these books it would be the transitions from one scene to another. I did like the book but there were just parts that felt like they were left unfinished (and I don't me on purpose). Highly anticipated sequel to the number one bestselling novel, Born. Twenty years ago scientists made some remarkable discoveries with genetics and the ability to perfect the babies we gave birth to. Ten years ago the governments of the world made a hard choice, earth or people. Nine weeks ago the choices they made came full circle. Fourteen days ago the truth of their mutations leaked out into the borderlands and other areas. Yesterday the worst thing they ever made learned about what she was. 2.5 stars. Same thing with the writing, so poor, and third grade level again. but this time the whole relationship with will just made me feel sick. He's a crazy person and abusive and a liar... Ok, and another crazy abrupt ending. This time I am not dying to read the next and I hope by the time it comes out I've completely forgotten bout these crazy book that are so poorly written and started to use shock value of secret lab baby sisters and whatnot. I'll pass on the next. Thanks. Really I was so bored ith this one I almost couldn't finish it. Em, a recluse for ten years, now just tells anyone who asks her whole life story. Yeah... There are more things but I am ready to just put this series away for good now.

I want Reborn NOW!!!! Tara Brown is an exceptional author for many reasons; one, she thinks outside of the box, her range in writing is amazing and she brings out emotions in you that you never knew you had. Two, she gets the job done! Whereas there are many authors who shall remain unnamed... who take forever! Tara gets these books out like Speedy Gonzales (age give away) and third they are good! She gets them out fast but they're not crap. Her books are better written and more interesting than somebody who takes years to write one book!! My overall feeling about Tara is that she's brilliant and I feel privileged to have read her masterpieces!

I enjoyed the first book well enough, but this second in the series was really hard to get through. The grammar was atrocious. The plot was convoluted and there were several distracting plot holes. The characters didn't grow, giving us no reason to really care about them. Emma, the lead character, seemed to be all over the map, as though the author forgot who she was supposed to be. None of the main characters had many redeeming qualities, leaving the reader apathetic as to their fates.
I would not recommend this book.

Wow! I can safely say this is the first post-zombie-apocalyptic survivalist genocidal genetically engineered novel I've read, but I loved it! I didn't know what it was before I started, I just knew I loved Tara Brown's other books, so I gave it a shot. Three genetically engineered zombie thumbs up!!!

OH MY GOODNESS amazing! I am so excited I only have to wait a few days for the conclusion! I just hope amazon.com made a typo and the book is longer than 68 pages. I mean even at 68 I'll read it but I hope there is more if not I would be confused! I <3 Jake and Will (even if he is a liar and we all knew it!)

3/5

So obviously, based on my ratings, I did not enjoy this book as much as the first and at times was really annoyed. This does not mean the entire book was bad because I did enjoy it. It was good but not really good.

I really enjoyed the beginning, it was quite intense and confusing (in a good way), and just showed more of Em's personality. I really liked the new development of Em's story about how she is a Gen baby and that is why she is different. Many people want her dead because of this and others do not, and this really added to the plot. I enjoyed the new characters especially Bernie (I think this is his name) who was even more prepared than Lenny (Lenny is Em's uncle who she thought was her dad.)

This is a strange critique, but I feel like the names of the characters are really basic and nothing special, so I find myself getting characters confused. Like Jake and Will, I always forget who is who for some reason. Honestly, Star has the most unique name.

So a major critique of mine is the love triangle, and the way the character's personalities came across in this book. I HATED Will and Jake I was reading it and was just quite annoyed. Love triangles can be fun, but they are in like every novel ever and are soooo cliché. I get that Emma has not been around humans or boys for the majority of her life, but the way she dealt with the triangle was annoying to me. I guess it is because she has only read romance novels so she makes it cliché, but I just do not enjoy reading that sort of thing. Someone who likes romance probably would.

I enjoyed how messed up Em's relationship is with her real dad and his manipulation of the human race. It was so interesting to read.

I have always loved Leo. I mean I probably have a bias as a doggo lover, and an animal lover. I low key wish Leo was real his character is just fantastic and hilarious with his bias towards people and how protective he is of Em.

So I kinda liked the plot, but I felt like not much happened. At the beginning and as I learned about Emma's real story it was okay-pretty good. The rest was going to the city and back, planning to go to the city, and the stupid love triangle (sorry if anyone actually enjoyed that part).

I really enjoyed Anna and did not hate Jake and Will as much as I did in this book. All of the characters, even Emma to a certain extent kind of annoyed me and their personalities fell flat. Emma more annoyed me than lacked character development, but that is okay, because I prefer a good plot, world-building, and good writing to enjoyable characters.

I really do love Tara Brown's writing, but it was not as good in this book as the prior.

The ending was just okay, kind of dramatic but I think it touched Em and was something good for her.

I think it is cool how Emma hated star and they are actually sisters. Now Emma is not as quick to judge her, and that is kind of interesting to read about. Maybe Emma will develop more of a sense of family which I believe will aid in her enjoyment for life.

(maybe do not read this part if you have not read the Maze Runner)
As mentioned in the review for the first book, Emma gives me strong Katniss vibes, especially in this book. Especially in the scene where she goes into the hot tub and people she has never met knows of her and says she is there to save everyone. I also got more of a Maze Runner vibe with breeder farms because of the infected and the scientific manipulation and study of the immune.

(okay now you are good to read if you skipped the last chapter)
Overall the book was good, but not fantastic. I enjoyed reading it, but felt I could critique a largeish portion of the book.
