Once again Lisa Kessler has done the unbelievable - this book is now my favorite in the series and even better than the last one. Which is pretty much what I said about the last book and the one before that! Each book in this series has opened our eyes a little more to the amazing world and characters she has created that somehow manage to blend seamlessly into our reality. I can almost believe that if I were to take a visit to the beach outside Calisto's house in the night that I might see a pair of lovers (there are quite a few in these books) sitting on the book, staring at the ocean and simply being in love, together. To me, that is the power a good writer has - to make us feel and believe that their world is just outside our own. That if we simply look a little closer, believe a little stronger or turn our head at just the right moment, we might be able to glimpse one of the many beloved and interesting people that exist in their imagination and now ours.
This is Issa's book. If anyone deserves a happy ending, deserves to find the kind of love his brothers and other Night Walker's have, it is Issa, the God of the West. He has done and given so very much for our world that he is slowly losing touch with what little he has left of himself. He no longer feels like an individual - he fears he losing his ability to feel and even his sanity as living has become an obligation to him. We know that he (and his three other brothers) must exist to keep the world in balance but he is afraid he will never be or have more - to love and be loved like the others.
Muriah is the fun-loving, head-strong, intelligent spitfire we met in Night Demon. Her family has known Lukas and been under his protection since Lukas met her great-grandfather as her family settled in the West, a couple hundred years ago. They began a trading post, eventually specializing in those rare and hard to find books. Muriah is turning 30 soon and is beginning to feel the burden of being the last of her family line, to carry on their traditions and work. She struggles with the idea of trusting someone enough to settle down, have children and begin a life together. She is very sure she could never trust or fully give her heart to anyone.
Reading this fantastic book was rather bittersweet as it is the final book and features all the characters we have come to love. Lukas, Gretchen and Zafrina have settled in San Diego with Kate and Calisto. Then Issa is summoned to help keep Muriah safe and help her find the information they need to keep the world safe. As we follow along on their adventures, we also get glimpses of the day-to-day life in San Diego as the rest of the Night Walkers (and a few trusted humans) struggle to keep hope for the future alive even as the battle against Chaos continues.
Eventually, sadly, this book and this series come to a perfect ending - which is also a beginning. I hope, somehow, we still get to see glimpses of these amazing beings as they live, love and adventure in our world.

Here she goes again and brings another one to life for us the readers to devour and immensely enjoy again. It amazes me after reading each one of hers could she get any better and the answer to that is yesss! Reading this one though is bittersweet because it all comes together one final time. As a reader you can not wait to read the next one in the series but when you find out it is the last one in it you hesitate for a moment but it calls to you anyways the temptation is so great. I do believe I liked this one best of all though largely due to the characters she brought to life within and the final touches that are so eloquently done within. As soon as the first page was turned I was transported away again ready to ride with the NightWalkers again. The characters are so fitting Muriah is quite the interesting sort and to have carried that gift around (even though she feels differently) to finally have to use it for the salvation of many. Issa now he is one I would have for my protector any day. One of the original ones with a ego to match no less must protect Muriah while they locate the rest of the things needed to save many. One very important one to be protected is the unborn child that much rests on with the birth. Muriah has a spirit that matches his so these two make the perfect pair to see their building relationship through all of this. This is one intriguing relationship that was a joy also to see developed. The author's talent in bringing the extra ordinary to life and make it seem everyday like you are there is one of the many reasons I enjoy reading her novels. There are many twists and turns to keep the reader captivated throughout this novel. She adds the right amount of heat to this relationship with the love that grows between them. Love that makes even one such as Issa come to life again. That my fellow reader is the excitement in reading a novel such as this when that is accomplished. As you are taken along you desire the best outcome for all which you are given a very adventurous time while reaching the road to see if that is accomplished. Since I will not spoil the fun for the person wanting this tasty morsel for themselves to enjoy, just know that this is again one of those must read for yourselves but will be left very very satisfied to the core. Received a arc for a honest review.

This book is part of The Night series and although easily works as a standalone I think probably will make a lot more sense if these books are read in order as previous story lines impact a great deal here.
Deep in the heart of the Yucatan jungle resides the ancient Mayan god Issa. He's weary to his very soul of all the sacrifices he has overseen and beyond tired of all the blood he has spilled . Now he's called to help his fellow Night Walkers as their very existence could be about to end.
Muriah is human but has the gift of psychometry and is able to use it to find missing objects . She's located an ancient codex for her sometimes lover but he's butchered before she can tell him. Distraught and confused the last thing Muriah expects is to be questioned by a strange man who literally seems to disappear into thin air! Seeking the advice of trusted friends she's pulled headlong into an adventure with the most arrogant and obnoxious man she's ever met. Unfortunately that man is not human he's a god and Muriah finds herself helping him unravel the mystery of an ancient prophecy but they are not the only ones looking for answers and so begins a dangerous chase.
I've read a few of this authors books since I discovered her work last year and I think this series is probably my favourite by her. Her characters are not always likeable and can take a while to worm their way into the readers heart but when that connection is made boy is it strong! A case in point would be Issa the most egotistical male around and yet his transformation as he reconnects with his humanity is a joy to behold. Seeing him form a bond with the spirited Muriah changed the whole feel of this story and it was good to see her change from an almost reclusive woman to one who could and would embrace life and love.
Having read the title fans of this series would be mistaken if they think this book is just about the birth of a new Night Walker child. This may be the last of the series but it's about a new beginning and filled with love, friendship and loyalty. A great series and this author is truly ascending to new heights. Recommended

Muriah knows more is in the world than just humans. She has been hunting for an ancient codex for a client when the client ends up dead. A stranger appears at her door looking for the same thing. Issa is one of the original night walkers and hasn't wanted a woman in a long time. He had his heart broken a long time ago and never thought he would find someone special again. Issa must protect an unborn child and figure the codex out if he is to save the world. Muriah is needed to find missing scrolls and Issa is the only one to protect her. While he never thought to Muriah opens up feelings in him and he will do anything to protect her and save the world.
Issa seems like such a hard person or Night Walker I should say. He doesn't let people get close and everything seems to go to pieces around him. That is just the surface. Issa is a very caring and thoughtful guy when with Muriah. She brings out the best in him. He is also a kick butt guy who isn't afraid to fight. Not to mention sexy and while in another form simply beautiful. Muriah should be scared and while at times she is she still will do anything to help out. She has a gift her self and is very smart. She will do anything she can to help Issa even when it puts her in danger. I have enjoyed all the characters but I really love these two.
This is a wonderful addition to this series. I love how it all ends. From the start Issa had my attention and the more I read the more I fell for him. I love how he is al dark and deadly one minute then thinking about red slippers the next. It really shows all sides to him. He tries his best to do what needs to be done but he also makes sure Muriah has some wonderful memories. If you are a fan of this series you will be delighted by this book. If you haven't read it yet you must try it.

All I can say is wow what a great way to end the series. Lisa did it again. This is Issa and Muriah's book. Issa is a night walker that is tortured and slowly loosing his way . When he is sent to find the codex and find Muriah. She is a force in her own right. The old God doesn't really know what to do with her. As they try and figure out the codex and save the immortal child .
I loved the way this book ended . Lisa did this story justice and I am sorry that the series had to end but glad it ended the way it did.
I loved watching the gods find their loves and truly starting to live with their mates. Congratulations on the great series

One immortal child born of a human woman would save the world.
After the death if the god of the north the world is out if balance. Leaving the immortals fighting for existence. Having sought out a solution they rely on an ancient prophecy. Only they are not sure if all the details as the prophecy has been lost.
In the third full book of her Night Series, Lisa Kessler tells an exciting conclusion to the prophecy. Except it isn't that simple there are those who wish to destroy the immortals and mankind for their own enjoyment.
Muriah La Deaux is the last if her family. A family guarded by the immortals and who hold special gifts. Muriah has visions when she touches an item. A skill she has kept from everyone but has found it quite useful in her career of finding lost or missing artifacts. Of course thus time it may be more dangerous than normal. Her client and sort of boyfriend is dead and a rather freaky "man" has been hanging out around her home and shop.
Issa, god of the west is the god of sacrifice and millennium of doing the right thing has cost him his humanity, for lack of a better word. He has been called to help find, then protect the missing codix and the unborn child. Only one look at the human woman who he will be assisting makes him want to forget all about duty.
Muriah and Issa are two hard headed individuals who question that live exists and most certainly don't believe in Happily Ever After. But they do believe in family, loyalty and duty. Somehow that has to be enough. Until Issa realizes that when he is with Muriah he has hope once again. That there may just be more to life than obligations and duty.
It's a good thing Muriah has begun to believe in Issa because it's going to take more than luck to contain a god.
Another excellent offering from the mind I'd Ms. Kessler.

The final installment of Lisa Kessler's Night Series is here. As a longtime reader, I'm sad about its ending, but overjoyed at how the end was written here in Night Child.
Mrs. Kessler picks up after Night Demon and Night Angel, but, contrary to the title, the story doesn't center around the pregnant mortal Gretchen and her Night Walker beau Lukas, but around Lukas's mortal friend Muriah and Issa, the Night Walker god of the west.
Muriah has the gift of psychometry, which makes her job of finding ancient artifacts for sale easier. Her boyfriend, Richard, is murdered after asking her to find a Mayan codex depicting the birth of the Night Child.
The murderer is the god of Chaos, Apep, and he wants to control and kill all Night Walkers. Only Muriah can find the artifacts needed to trap him, and the stoic Issa must go with her to Egypt. If they don't succeed, Gretchen will die, as will the entire Night Walker race.
Out of all the Night books, Mrs. Kessler saved the best for last. Muriah is a hurt woman with a big heart that she keeps in iron chains and Issa, despite being an immortal god, is very much a detached man. They are relatable and are definitely my favorite couple in ALL of Mrs. Kessler's stories.
The narrative is fast-paced and you are never really sure what's going to happen next to this vast cast of characters.
My absolute favorite part, however, is the budding relationship between Zafrina and Lori. I wish that there would be another book dedicated to them! The LGBT relationship isn't there for shock value or for a higher rating: it's there because it's a natural development.

Once again Lisa Kessler captures me with her words and has me riding the waves of emotions with her characters. I don’t know how she does it, but every time I read one of her books I can’t help falling in love with her characters and becoming emotionally invested in her story. I just love the world of the Night Walkers that she has created and couldn’t be happier at the ending she has crafted for the conclusion to this series.
I just loved Issa and Muriah. They were so perfect for each other on so many levels. Being a god, Issa needed someone who wasn’t afraid to stand up and remind him that he was more than just the god of sacrifice, and Muriah was more than up to the task. It was wonderful to see the two of them learn to trust and let each other in. I also liked the fact that despite all that Issa has been through, he acknowledges his feelings for Muriah and commits to them with very little drama. Muriah had a harder time with her feelings which sometimes got frustrating, but I loved how Issa got beneath her defenses and helped her begin the healing process to accept love.
I loved all the other characters in this book, from the other Night Walkers, to the Fraternidad, to the “mortals” who have befriended the Night Walkers. I loved the budding romance between Zafrina and Lori, and watching the continued love stories of Calisto and Kate and Lukas and Gretchen.
I can’t say enough about this book, other than tell you that you need to read this series! Thank you Lisa Kessler for another great read!

Lisa Kessler hit it out of the park with this book!! I have loved every book in the series but I have to say Issa is my favorite!!
As the Mayan God of Sacrifice and God of the West Issa has known nothing but heartache. He had to sacrifice his first love and then his brother, The God of the North. He is summoned from Egypt to help capture Apep the God of Chaos and to help keep the Night Child safe as he is the heir to the God of the North. He meets Muriah, who hunts down ancient relics and has a psychic gift no one knows about. As they try to keep the codex that tells of the birth of the immortal night child safe and a way to contain Apep things start to change in the hearts of Issa and Muriah.
This story is so awesome. I cried at the pain Issa felt and the loneliness of the two. This is a must read book for anyone who likes a good paranormal involving ancients god!!
I recommend reading the Night Series in order just to get the impact of each character. You won't be sorry!!

Ms. Kessler has done it again! I love her Night series and this one is no exception! It was great to see characters from the previous novels, how they interact and how hard they all, Muriah included, fought to keep one of their own safe. She agrees to go on a trip with Issa that will take her places where danger lurks in dark places and an evil being Apep is determined to end the all the Night Walkers. In a race against time, Issa and Muriah are both determined to find a way to work together and stop him.

I am so glad I had a chance to read this before it came out. I literally could not put it down once I started and finished it in one day! Lisa Kessler is a fantastic author and you can just see everything she describes in your minds eye.
Issa is the Mayan God of the West and his story is one of sacrifice. When Muriah, a collector of relics, and Issa come together to help save Gretchen and her unborn Nightwalker child from the God of Chaos, passion burns along with chaos. Muriah puts Issa in his place and challenges him in ways no one ever has before. As they travel from San Diego to Egypt their fears are shared and they become closer, even though they try to fight their connection.
Night Child is a great conclusion to this series. I highly recommend you read it ASAP, along with Lisa's other novels.

Muriah owns a book store that has been in the family for generations. Her specialty is finding rare and authentic artifacts for customers. She has a gift in which she can touch the artifact and see where it has been.
She has been trying to find a codex for a client but then he is murdered. She then is introduced to Issa. She feels an immediate pull to Issa, but he doesn't do relationships. Besides as a night walker he once dawn breaks he leaves his body.
Great book, Muriah and Issa are trying to save the night child which will continue the night walkers and overall the human race. They are trying to stay one step away from the god of Chaos. This book is full of chaos, excitement and romance.

Amazing, crazy, beautiful
I finally sat down to read and I couldn't put this book down until the end. So much happened in this book you will get dizzy from it all. I understand muriah's difficulty in trusting and learning to love. Lisa made the words flow off the page, you felt like you were there. I'm not sure if lisa knows but she gives hope, even in the world she writes and the world I live in. You are an amazing writer to bring all these emotions out from a book.

I got the chance to review this item before it was out and I do say I couldn't put it down! I really love vampires and adding in my other love of Egypt made this book even more fantastic! This book ended in a great way and it wrapped up the series in a phenomenal way. The only thing I will wonder about is the Night Child.

I am amazed, dazed and happy, happy dancing! I'm crying tears of gladness because Night Child was the ULTIMATE PURELY PERFECT CLOSURE to this absolutely impressive paranormal romance series! I want to go back and re-read the whole series again to relive the awesomeness of the whole Night series.
I always fall in love with Lisa's heroines and I'm utterly besotted with her Smokin' Hot Night Walkers. Muriah La Deaux, our heroine in Night Child, is an intelligent, loyal, and independent character. She has a strong sense of familial duty, almost to a fault. Issa, our hero, is the oldest of the Night Walkers, the Mayan god of sacrifice and god of the west. For centuries, Issa has been tasked with the most anguishing tasks for the benefit of all humankind. The nature of his duties has taken their toll on him and Issa is mired in grief with the sadness of his unending plight.
The demon in this final installment was the god of chaos and he was a VILE despicable villain. His ultimate goal was to control the Night Walkers by taking the Night Child, an innocent unborn child who was destined to take the place of the god of the north who had been previously sacrificed. Without the Night Child, the Night Walkers would all die and humanity would cease to exist. The world was truly in dire straits.
This tale grabbed my attention from the very beginning and captivated me until the end. The suspense was gripping as chaos had seemingly insurmountable powers to use in pursuit of Issa and Muriah as they desperately sought the instruments to remove chaos as a threat while discovering solace with each other. Did I mention that Lisa writes the best loving sex scenes? She unequivocally does! AND the surprising twists to the story's plot took me totally unaware.
Night Child can be read as a stand-alone but I highly recommend that newbies to the series read the series in order from the beginning. Those of us who have avidly followed the series will experience euphoria at the return of all of the previously featured Night Walkers and their mates.
I have stalked :-) Lisa for many years and have literally inhaled every book she's ever published. She is the most talented story teller I know. Every installment of her Night series has been awesome and this final book culminating the series takes the most AMAZING cake! IF you've never read a book by Lisa, pick up this series! You won't regret it!

Muriah La Deaux's life has never been that normal. She's aware of the Night Walker world, and does everything possible to maintain their secrets. Granted, not many would understand the why of it, but that fact doesn't really matter to her. As long as Lukas and his friends remain safe that's all that matters.
Muriah's life takes an unexpected turn when her lover is soon murdered. Though she's not quite sure as to why someone would do such a thing, she begins to wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that she deals in finding lost relics. Richard was an avid customer of hers who enjoyed buying priceless artifacts. Taking that into account, plus the fact that someone now seems to be interested in her, she's no longer sure as to what is up or down.
Determined to make sense out of the situation, Muriah puts her trust in Lukas' hands. When it becomes apparent that the random occurrences are somehow tied to the immortal child, she soon realizes that she's in way over her head. An old foe of the Night Walkers' is determined in having his due, and he knows she's somehow the key in getting what he wants. If she's to succeed in thwarting his every advance, she'll need to trust the Night Walkers' and their every intention. Most especially that of the newcomer, Issa.
Though she's not prepared for what's to come, there's one thing Muriah can't deny--her attraction to the brooding Issa. There's something about him that draws her to him. Something that makes her want him with every step they take. Part of her knows she should leave well enough alone. She has a job to do, and she can't let her heart rule over her head. Sadly, that's easier said than done. Most especially when the two of them are in such close proximities wherever they go.

Wow! That truly sums up this final instalment in the Night series.
I was initially drawn in by the covers, lets face it Lisa lucked out in the cover art department - they are damn lickable! But it was the uniqueness of the characters, the intricacies of the plot and the seemingly effortless story telling that kept me going back for more! Lisa has a talent for drawing you in to a book and holding you there and it was deeply apparent in this exciting conclusion to the series.
There's not really much I can say about the series that hasn't already been done but I will say this- It's an amazing paranormal series with roots in Mayan mythology and if you like something a little different from the normal, it's worth taking a chance on these. In fact I would recommend all of Lisa's books, I haven't been disappointed yet! I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!

Love this! I have read all in the series before this book and have loved them all. This one is no different. I enjoy Lisa's writing style and how she weaves these stories to seem so real. The characters are sufficiently different from each other and appear to be believable. Thank you Lisa, for sharing your stories <3

What I love about this series by Lisa Kessler is that there are so many unique parts that make it very different from the rest of the paranormal romance genre. The Night Walkers, these immortal beings that may have similarities to vamps and shape-shifters, actually have unique attributes that make them stand out in the realm of fantasy beings, and I’ve enjoyed seeing them revealed. In this final installment of the series, we have the story of Issa, the downtrodden and tormented God of the West who has sacrificed so much of himself and his soul just to keep the world safe. He’s been the bearer of a death sentence for so many that he really saw no light or happiness in the world. Muriah, aware of his kind through their association with her ancestors, saw more in him, and I couldn’t wait for her to finally make him see it, too.
With several stories running parallel in this book, there was a lot going on at any given point. Seeing it unfold through multiple perspectives, it definitely kept me on my toes trying to follow along, but it brought everything in the story together. When Muriah’s would-be boyfriend met a tragic end, she was thrust into center stage in the middle of one dangerous fight. She may not be a god, but she had a very useful talent for figuring out the prophecy of the immortal child that would bring balance to the Night Walkers, and this put a target right on her back. With the fierce God of Chaos right on their heels (we get in his mind too, which I didn’t care for but helped tie things together), Issa was forced to take Muriah away in order to protect the baby and find a way to stop their enemy, which led to lots of alone time for these two!
Muriah and Issa didn’t click right off the bat. There was some tension there thanks to his violent past that kept them at arm’s length for awhile. I wasn’t completely sold on Issa being able to really let his guard down, but when he started to let Muriah in he was that perfect blend of tender and sexy that we all love. Sure he’s road-hardened and his existence was pretty dark and depressing, but that just made him all the more deserving of his happy ending. I felt like the turn-around into something more came on a bit suddenly for me, but I loved them together once they let it happen. Muriah’s sass made for some amusing moments between them, and Issa’s softer side was as if we were watching the light come back into his eyes. They had the fate of the Night Walkers and the world in their hands, but Muriah was still able to bring something to the table that Issa wasn’t expecting- a possible future that wasn’t filled with death and danger.
This was a great way to wrap up the Night series, tying up loose ends and letting readers see all of their favorite characters from the previous books make it through to the other side of the fight. Action-packed with some spine-tingling chills and of course plenty of sexy, it’s pleasing to the masses and had my stomach tied in knots right up to the end!

This is how you conclude a series!
There is something both painful and pleasurable at reaching the final book in a series. There are many where I've dreaded reading them because I get ridiculously invested in fictional characters. I want to see their story reach a stunning climax filled with redemption or love or some variation thereof. Yet, I know that once it happens the adventure I share in is over. Rereading is the only time I will see 'my friends' again but there is something unbeatable about the first time that no reread ever quite matches. NIGHT CHILD was the first book that I've finished a series with where I have been in a full-on book hangover that's held me back from reviewing. Reviewing is *my* climax in this story of a girl and her beloved characters. It's my saying goodbye and makes it all final.
Do I sound melodramatic? I darn sure better because I'm a little embarrassed at how deeply this book affected me. It was action-packed and intense, the kind of adventure that has you holding your breath as you tear through the pages. Muriah and Issa have a chemistry that is pretty amusing from the get-go and develops into something both sensual and deep. There were lines in this book, scenes where Issa's feelings were expressed in ways that left me in awe. Oft times declarations of love, especially involving ancient immortal heroes, come off as cheesy and make me cringe. Kessler crafted dialog for Issa that made me look over at my snoring husband and wonder if he ever thought the same deep love for me. If you're a romantic at heart prepare to be wowed.
But the Night series has been about so much more than just love finding the inhabitants of it. The series spanning story arc reaches a dire point and even though in my rational mind I knew it would end happily there were times my emotional side forgot that. There are some nail-biting moments where the big evil seemed sure to win. Thank goodness that as much as I love a redeemable villain, Apep, is just plain bad. Terrifying and cold, he made NIGHT CHILD impossible to put down as he threatened not just the fate of characters I'd grown to know and love, but the world itself.
If you've been reading the series you are going to love, love, love NIGHT CHILD. But the good news is, the romance side of it stands alone well enough that you could read it and easily go back to read each previous story from the beginning. I was utterly spent by the end of it and it touched me on such a personal level I'll admit here I am two weeks out and still trying to get over it. Bring your tissues and be prepared to need a nap the next day, you aren't going to want to put this down.

I want to see their story reach a stunning climax filled with redemption or love or some variation thereof. Yet, I know that once it happens the adventure I share in is over. Rereading is the only time I will see 'my friends' again but there is something unbeatable about the first time that no reread ever quite matches. NIGHT CHILD was the first book that I've finished a series with where I have been in a full-on book hangover that's held me back from reviewing. Reviewing is *my* climax in this story of a girl and her beloved characters. It's my saying goodbye and makes it all final.
Do I sound melodramatic? I darn sure better because I'm a little embarrassed at how deeply this book affected me. It was action-packed and intense, the kind of adventure that has you holding your breath as you tear through the pages. Muriah and Issa have a chemistry that is pretty amusing from the get-go and develops into something both sensual and deep. There were lines in this book, scenes where Issa's feelings were expressed in ways that left me in awe. Oft times declarations of love, especially involving ancient immortal heroes, come off as cheesy and make me cringe. Kessler crafted dialog for Issa that made me look over at my snoring husband and wonder if he ever thought the same deep love for me. If you're a romantic at heart prepare to be wowed.
But the Night series has been about so much more than just love finding the inhabitants of it. The series spanning story arc reaches a dire point and even though in my rational mind I knew it would end happily there were times my emotional side forgot that. There are some nail-biting moments where the big evil seemed sure to win. Thank goodness that as much as I love a redeemable villain, Apep, is just plain bad. Terrifying and cold, he made NIGHT CHILD impossible to put down as he threatened not just the fate of characters I'd grown to know and love, but the world itself.
If you've been reading the series you are going to love, love, love NIGHT CHILD. But the good news is, the romance side of it stands alone well enough that you could read it and easily go back to read each previous story from the beginning. I was utterly spent by the end of it and it touched me on such a personal level I'll admit here I am two weeks out and still trying to get over it. Bring your tissues and be prepared to need a nap the next day, you aren't going to want to put this down.

This book is a riveting and stunning conclusion to the Night series. One of the original Night Walkers, Issa joins with Muriah La Deaux on a race to Egypt in order to find a way to stop the God of Chaos. Muriah will have to use her psychic gift in order to save an immortal child and as the battle between love and chaos ensues, she will have to make the ultimate sacrifice.
This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with lots of action, suspense, drama and romance. The author uses well written scenes and details to inspire vivid images that capture the imagination and the well orchestrated action is not only believable, it makes the reader feel as if they are part of the unfolding drama. The strong compelling characters are easily understood and draw the reader deeper into the story and spine tingling anticipation builds throughout the story as Issa and Muriah try to outrun and outmaneuver the Chaos.
The attraction between Muriah and Issa steadily grows hotter as the story progresses and the sex scenes burn up the pages. The relationship will take a little work, there is the fact that he is immortal and she is not and they both have a few emotional issues to overcome which adds a lot of depth to the story and gets the reader emotionally involved. There also is some humorous moments as Muriah tells the God of the West how it is and of course he can’t believe she would talk to him that way, but he finds it kind of charming which just pushes him toward the mortal more.
The author’s fantastic world and captivating characters is an exciting spin on the Mayan end of the world concept that keeps the readers thoroughly entertained throughout the series. I am sorry to that the series is ending, but what a way to go, this book is a magnificent ending to the series and a wonderful goodbye to the characters though really wish I didn’t have to say goodbye, maybe there could be another story one day about the immortal child…hmmm…

This book is the conclusion to The Night series. Although it can be read as a standalone, I would recommend you read the books in order to fully understand all of the characters.
As the ancient Mayan god of the west, Night Walker Issa, feels he is losing his sanity after all the sacrifices and spilled blood he is responsible for. Among those, the woman he loved and his brother, the god of the north. The death of his brother leaves an imbalance in the world and leaves the Night Walkers vulnerable. Their only hope is an unborn child, who will be the god of the north reborn, carried by a human woman, Gretchen. The Night Walkers have a prophecy about this, but the codex has been lost and no one knows if the baby is immortal in the womb or until after it is born.
Muriah is human, but knows of the existence of the Night Walkers. Gretchen’s partner Lukas is a Night Walker and has been watching over her family for generations. Muriah has the gift of psychometry and uses it to located ancient artifacts. She has located the codex for one of her clients/boyfriend, but he is murdered before she can tell him.
The God of Chaos sees the vulnerability of the Night Walkers and his chance to rule. If he can get the child and hold him, he knows he can control the Night Walkers and have them do his bidding. Issa and Muriah join forces to put distance between him and the unborn child, while at the same time finding a way to trap him again.
During their adventure, Muriah and Issa fall in love with each other. It is not easy as Muriah wants what Issa cannot give her, a family to carry on her family’s legacy. For Issa, he has been alone for so long and has sacrificed so much, that he does not think he deserves to be loved. Muriah shows him that she can look past his duty and into his heart. The chemistry between between the two is hot, but so is the tenderness.
I loved this book and it has a wonderful ending to the series.

Le sigh. Check out those abs. Yummy indeed. I love Ms. Kessler's The Night series and this book was no exception.
Issa - Mayan God who did sacrifices, and sort of a vampire too (he drinks blood, cannot wake up/exist out in the sun). Was pretty danged gory when they talked about it, but hey, everyone knows about the whole "rip the heart out" thing so it was awesome. Issa definitely grew over the course of the book as he learned how to not be so isolated and alone. I loved how he couldn't read Muriah and how it drove him crazy (although he did find a periodic way around that problem....)
Muriah - The one thing that didn't happen was a full explanation of just what it was that kept Muriah from being read by the Night Walker creatures. I really wish that had been explained, or maybe it was and I just missed it. However, I liked her rather interesting career choice. Not the bookstore, though I loved that aspect of it, but rather her obtaining rare and unusual books - methods better left unexamined. Hehe.
And then there was the Egyptian god of Chaos. He was fun and I like that he didn't hold back on using his powers to cause, well, chaos all around him as he hunted Muriah to stop her and Issa from finding the tablet that could lock him away again. I also liked the continued examination of the child being born from a prior Night couple to replace the God killed in the last book. The Egyptian god (the name escapes me, and I feel really bad about that) wanted that child and I totally get the reason for it.
So - long story short...read this book. It's awesome and well worth your time. I can't wait to read more by Ms. Kessler! She has two great serieses going (this one and her portal one).

Sadly the Night Walker series comes to a close. Lisa Kessler has grown as a writer and her fans recognize the quality of this final story. As hard as it must have been to write, the characters carry the reader into the world of Night Walkers. This story takes up where Night Demon leaves off. Lukas and Gretchen are parents to the Night Child, child of the God of the North. Without his birth, the Night Walkers, guardians of the mortal world, would cease to exist and the mortal world wouldn't be far behind.
Muriah and Issa are the lead characters in this story. Muriah has hit that wonderful time of life, her biological clock is exploding in her mind. Her psychic gifts, and take charge personality are thrown together with the God of the West, Issa, the great sacrificing god. Their journey to trap Apep, an Egyptian god reject, has them working together, or learning how to work together and deal with their emotional baggage.
This was a fast pace, I don't want to put it down, NO! I'm going to keep reading... do what ever you want, just don't bug me, type of book. This whole series has been a joy and pleasure to read. I do hope that Ms. Kessler will pick up the story line of the Night Child... can you imagine, a mortal mom, night walker dad, and an immortal god for a child.. Talk about your terrible twos, and those teenage years!
