Preston Mitchell, undercover DEA agent, has led a life of danger and obscurity. Knowing his job would never allow a normal relationship, he’s never opened himself up to any woman...that is until the lovely Avery Middleton stumbles into his life.

To the outsider, Avery has it all...wealth, family, connections and a great job. But on the inside, she’s miserable. Her social life is in the dumpster, the kooky gal next door has some zany plans for her and her selfish mother drives Avery to the point of insanity. Her only salvation is to get out of Charleston and start a new life. So that’s precisely what she does. She moves to Seattle and steps right into the path of hot and sexy, Preston.

Unfortunately for both of them, Avery ends up being in the wrong place at the wrong time and is now running for her life. But she’s not alone. She has a gorgeous DEA agent protecting her and suddenly finds herself irresistibly captivated by him. There’s only one problem. Preston carries more than his share of mental baggage, courtesy of his job. His covert missions have put him in places and situations he can barely stand to think about. Avery rocks Preston’s world because she is nothing like anyone he’s ever met and something extraordinary begins to happen between them. But can their love survive in this world, where danger, intrigue and deception lurk on every corner?

We first met Preston in Shattered Edge. He was this super secretive, mysterious guy – the sister of protagonist Terri Mitchell. Finding out he was an undercover DEA agent and that their lives were in danger, his family had to be relocated and put under witness protection. In Kissing Fire, we are allowed to get inside Preston's head and see his life for how it really is. Super sexy undercover DEA agent, superhero who gets the bad guys and saves the day…this might be his life, but he had to pay an incredibly high price for it. When his job once again gets in the way of his life, he has some serious choices to make.

I absolutely love Preston. He is this remarkably sexy, amazingly sweet guy. On the outside he seems to have everything under control, but he has some incredible skeletons in his closet. Reading through his story I just wanted to fold him in my arms and never let him go. We also met Ava a couple books back, but we were never really given the chance to get to know her. When she meets Preston, sparks fly…and bullets. Caught up in his deadly life, she has to decide what it is she truly wants and what she cannot live without.

In this book we are re-introduced to some old friends from the first two books in the Edge series as well as some new friends. Enter Melissa. She is awesome. There are no other words for her. She brings not just a touch of humor to the story, but the rolling on the floor laughing type of humor. She is awesome. Yes, I said it twice because she deserves it. Ms. Hargrove, please write a book about Melissa.

Though Kissing Fire is the third book in the Edge series by A.M. Hargrove, it is also a stand alone. The author does an excellent job of going over past details so that if you have not read the first two, you will still get the full impact of this story. However, I would suggest you read the first two simply for the background knowledge you would gain and the fact that they are just as good as this one.

I received a copy review from the author in exchange for an honest opinion. This review may include spoilers and is based on my personal thoughts

Little overview before I start getting into my thoughts about this read. Avery is a rich girl that was always close to everyone in her family except her mother. She never knew the need for money but she always wanted to make it out on her own. When she receives a new job in Seattle, she leaves without second guessing and very excited to start her new job. Once she’s in Seattle, she decides to visit her brother that she haven’t spoken with in a while. But when she gets there, she meets her brother’s wife’s brother who is staying with them for few nights. Without trying to reveal his identity, he calls himself “Just Miles”. She’s immediately attracted to him and wants nothing more than jump his bones. The next day when she has to face the danger, she needs to leave everyone behind to hide in Preston’s cabin to avoid being seen by the drug cartel that’s chasing him down.

Soooo… That damn cover. I can drool over that cover for hours. And the first quarter of the book really made me happy because pretty cover = amazing-new-favorite-book, right? SO WRONG!!! After that quarter passed and the gorgeous DEA agent Preston met Avery, it all went to hell. Here’s a little overview of my status update that I pulled from Goodreads so you can see the progression of my thoughts:

1% "O.M.G.! The cover is to DIE for!!!! So excited for this book."

10% "Hahahahahahaha omg!!!!! This is the funniest thing that could EVER happen! Poor FBI agent must have been so embarrassed! Lol"

15% " My oh my... Sounds like "Just Miles" might have those dimples on his ass that I want to bite into! -drool-"

23% "I moved my mouth back down Just Miles' abs and his towel had parted. Good heavens, I now felt like Moses did at Red Sea. I started purring to the tune of "Hallelujah"!!"

43% ""Honey, I don't give a damn about your mother's approval" - Ummmmm I'm confused. Wasn't he supposed to be a badass DEA agent? Because right now he sounds more like my gay best friend."

85% "If somebody is not gonna be chased or shot, I'm so giving up on this book. I want action not the sleazy, puppy love :/"

99% "Mehhh... What a waste of time. Review coming up -.-"

That pretty much sums it up. I mean seriously, the badass DEA agent is supposed to be the hot guy here and after sobbing about how “unworthy” he is, it just makes him look like a pussy. And Avery! I’m sorry but she just turned out to be dumb (+ very very very self-conscious without a decent reason) in my eyes.

When Preston tells her that they haven’t been in danger for few weeks and he just wanted to be with her, she flips out and moves away for months. She literally drops everything and says that her heart is broken and she does not know how to live with herself. I mean seriously! Just a bad expression of a conflict in a book that could’ve been made so much better.

Would I purchase this? Hell yes, that cover still makes me drool!

Would I ask for a refund? You f*cking know it!

I want to thank A.M. Hargrove for allowing me to be included in the beta read, it was fun! I have since re-read the final edited version so my review is based upon that reading (not the beta).

Outside of one of A.M. Hargrove's other books (Dark Waltz) this is my favorite to-date adult book written by her. It was humorous and snarky at times, self-deprecating characters, and oh-la-la steam. Her characters are refreshingly real and imperfect, having their own hand ups and haunted pasts. Preston is an empty DEA agent that has given everything for his career. Avery, despite being raised in the Middleton family and wealth, always feels she is too much or not enough... too fat, not beautiful; even worse, nearly getting raped by Little Dicky. She's done, and ready to move away and into her own life.

Hands down, Melissa wins the award for quirkiest side character, ever. Female sumo wrestler? I had to Google it, seriously. *Shudder* They are out there. Maybe even with Ronald McDonald hair. *Shudders again, then snorts and laughs* Melissa adds a whole new level of fun to the book.

*Bang* Did I mention action? *Purr* And purring... and guns, drug cartels, skiing, tattoos, piercings - it's got a little bit of so many things, you're bound to see something you like. But beware the sumo wrestler and her scream down the mountain!

Overall, I found it to be a really enjoyable romance with extra bonus elements (including a possible raise in temperature...)

I received an ARC for free in exchange for my honest opinion.

You know you found a great author when you read one of her books and immediately pull up the next on your Kindle to start it. That is A.M. Hargrove and she is at the top of my list of favorite authors now. Kissing Fire is an adult contemporary romance with serious and dark issues, BUT this book is set apart from the field by an added element that I found to be a joyous surprise...humor. I don't know how she did it, but Miss Hargrove managed to build a terribly damaged hero, Preston Mitchell, and added in a sassy, funny as hell, heroine (who has her own issues though), Avery Middleton. And the contrast works! This book took a toll on me. I was laughing my ass off, literally...out loud, over parts of the book, and at other parts, I had tears in my eyes because my heart hurt for Preston. This love story was amazing, and OMG...the chemistry between Preston and Avery is almost scandalous. Preston has become one of my favorite male heroes in a long time. His background and how he became damaged is extraordinary, and like nothing I've ever read before. If I didn't like Avery so much, I'd bash her a bit in this review because I want Preston all to myself. But alas, she is perfect for him. Miss Hargrove...I sincerely hope you are a busy writing your next novel because I am impatiently waiting!!!

5 HOLY funny, sexy, bad guy dodgin’, frisky kitty cat meowin’, mother of panty droppin’ Undercover DEA Agent, shit-balls this book was AMAZZZZZZING stars!

This is my first A.M. Hargrove read and I was not left disappointed. She gives us it all. A wonderful action packed love story that will leave you swooning, cooing, meowing, purring, squirming, clinching, sweating, screaming, and awing from the very first word to the very last sentence.

So let me introduce you to my new book BFF Avery “Ava” aka Avery Kitty. She has a sense of humor like no other and a low self-esteem about herself and wants to leave her boring life in Charleston, SC behind and start over with a new house, new job, and hopefully new fun filled life in Seattle Washington. So she packs up her things and heads out West to start a new life. When she arrives at her Justin’s house, her brother, she comes face to face with sexy and steamy Undercover DEA Agent Preston aka “Just Miles”. He is everything her body craves but thinks that he is way out of her league. With his toned and tanned body, washboard stomach, and lickable biceps, he would never be attracted to an over average in height girl, not green/not blue eyes, that is carrying around an extra 25lbs around on her body, could he?

Preston “Just Miles” has given up his life for his job. Chasing around various drug cartels he has lost any semblance of a normal life. After the murder of his father and death of Terri, his sister, he needs to move on and actually have a life and the second his eyes land on Avery he knows that she is the one he wants that life with. But wanting and having are two totally different and he has to be willing to face some demons from his past and walk away from the life he has lived for the past 12 years.

Can Preston “Just Miles” detach himself from the DEA and life a normal life with Avery. Oh will his job and the enemies he has gained over the years threaten to ruin his happily ever after he so desperately wants?

So yes Avery Kitty is:

Kissing Fire (An Edge Novel #3) by A.M. Hargrove

Kissing Fire is the 3rd book in the series (An Edge Novel), A.M. Hargrove writing is spectacular, and I have to say her stories are only getting better with each book she writes. She is one of my favorite authors and will read just about anything she writes. The plot is exciting, a bit of suspense, romance, and humour; she makes me laugh out loud. One of the better authors I’ve come across lately. A.M. Hargrove stories are amazing and even though it’s an adult contemporary romance there is originality to her stories which I love.

In Kissing Fire we get to see Preston who was in Shattered Edge briefly, he is a DEA agent; you know the type, tall dark, and handsome, sexy, drool worthy type of man. YUMMY….We learn a lot about Preston in this story, his past, secrets, doubts and what his undercover has cost him. At times it’s a bit heart breaking to read what he has gone through. And then we meet Avery who has had a privileged life but feels trapped and decides to move to Seattle for a new start.

So when Avery and Preston meet up visiting their siblings sparks are ignited. This relationship is bumpy to say the least, you have one person who doesn’t think he is worthy of much because of his past. Then Avery who has very little self esteem and can’t fathom a man like Preston every wanting a woman like her.
The relationship that builds between these two is great, Preston is wonderful, sexy, and sweet and did I mention Yummy and Avery who has that southern charm is witty but lacking some self worth and can’t see herself like other do. Avery knows she has to figure out what she wants/needs……….. can she get past the dangerous life Preston has lived and will she be in danger? But the main question is could she live without Preston.

I really really recommend this series to anyone who is reading my review. This series is fantastic, all the characters are great and I love that you get to see some of the others characters from past books. Wait till you read about Avery’s next door neighbor, I’m hoping she gets her own book soon.

I have rated Kissing Fire 5 star rating and if you want to read this story as a standalone you will not be disappointed as A.M. Hargrove gives the reader enough of the history so you know what is going on. But I really suggest you go purchase Edge of Disaster and Shattered Edge and of course Kissing Fire.

I hadn't been introduced to A.M. Hargrove's work until I was given the opportunity to join a tour for Kissing Fire. I'm soooo glad that I jumped on board. I can't wait to pick up the first 2 novels in this series.

Okay, with that out of the way, let me go straight into Kissing Fire.

I received an ebook copy as part of the tour in exchange for an honest review.

Now, since I hadn't read anything else in this series, I wasn't sure what I had missed. Do not let the fact that this novel is technically the third in a series bother you. Yes, I'm completely OCD when it comes to reading series in order. However, I didn't even realize this was part of a series until I was halfway through it! Hargrove gives an amazing account of what I missed to the point where I didn't NEED to read the others in the series. However, I WANT to read them now. Ha.

The characters are very easy to become attached to. Preston, this hot, sexy, undercover DEA Agent was an amazing character to follow. He's given up more than I care to discuss for his job putting drug lords where they belong. They've taken so much from him, including his father and being forced to put his sister & mom in hiding under constant protection. When you learn about Preston's journey to get where he is (going to jail and serving time... plus everything that went along with that...), you begin to see how amazingly strong and brave this man really is. The things that Preston endured shows that he's such a selfless man. Oh, god, I hated hearing about what happened to him but it made me love him even more.

Avery is a doll. I loved her & her crazy sumo-wrestling friend. Ha. The first scene in which you learn about Little Dickey is priceless. Yes, it's a horrible occurrence in Avery's life that I wish she never would've gone through, but the way that her friend comes to the rescue and stands by her side since then is fabulous. I was able to really connect with Avery. I found several similarities between her & I. Maybe that's one of the reasons why I liked her so much.

HOWEVER, I wanted to strangle her at once point in the novel. I won't go into detail because I don't want to mark it as a spoiler... but I have to admit, I was ready to kick her butt... Totally stupid move on her part... Well okay, that sounds harsh. Ha. Really though, she just made a rash decision that I guess I wouldn't have made. I wouldn't have gone to such an extreme had it been me in the situation. But that's why it was Avery and not me in the book. :) Anyways, honestly, it probably won't bother most readers. I'm sure there's plenty of women that would completely agree with the decision that she made. I just thought she was a little dramatic. LOL

Anyway - totally fabulous novel! I can't wait to start reading more of Hargrove's work!

He's hot, sexy and tattooed and she's funny, sassy and curvy. He has a dangerous undercover job that could be a possible threat to her, she has a sumo wrestling friend that could be a possible threat to him!
I started laughing from the first page and didn't stop, there are some hilarious moments, involving suspect packages and German Shepherd bomb dogs which had me crying with laughing, and kitty, oh I loved kitty!! (trust me you will laugh!) Avery's sumo wrestling friend is a hoot who doesn't give a damn what people think and doesn't have a clue about fashion and likes to give Avery gifts- cue more hilarious scenes. We should all have at least one friend like Melissa!
There aren't many books I've read where I like the female lead as much as the male lead but Avery joins the very exclusive and short list. I loved her sense of humour, her sense of drama, like when she got a stitch in her side and thought her lungs were gonna explode after running, then realising she'd only ran a few feet!
My heart went out to Preston or, as I like to call him, The Pierced Tattooed One, because of what he'd gone through in his past, what is it about broken f***ed up men that has us girls turning to mush? My heart melted when he opened up to Avery and just when I'm smiling to myself and sighing there's an OMIGOD!! moment that made my jaw drop.
I liked the way the story is told from both POV's and the way humour plays a big part, my kindle is nearly yellow with all the hi lighting. I particularly liked the fact that Avery is a curvier girl, and like most of us, has issues with them, thinking no man could possibly find them attractive. Maybe that's why I connected more with her, I don't know but, what I do know is that, whenever I see the name A M Hargrove I know I'm in for a damn good read!!
A very funny read but also very hot, heart breaking and heart melting, simply put Kissing Fire is a MUST have for your e-book or bookshelf, go read it then go tell your friends to jump on board the Preston Party!!

Kissing Fire by A. M. Hargrove, was a great book full of mystery, intrigue, suspense, and humor. It was a light read compared to some of the novels I have been reviewing lately.

The story opens with Avery, (Ava) Middleton, who is from a wealthy family in Charleston, South Carolina. Avery has two brother's that are doctors. She is very insecure about her looks, weight, and overall persona, because of her mother's constant belittling over the years. Avery is actually a quirky, funny, beautiful girl, with blue-green eyes, and is very shapely, with a lot of hang-ups. She accepts a job, at a place called, Software Plus, on the West Coast and tells her parents two days before she is booked to leave on a plane for Seattle. Her mother is a drama queen, and her father wishes her goodluck. She makes arrangements for her duplex, and has her friend Melissa, (a 300 lb. sumo wrestler) keep an eye out until everything is finalized. Melissa is a crazy gal, who has some outlandish style, and ideas, but is loyal, and has saved Avery from being raped. Melissa gives Avery a going away gift that almost lands Avery in jail, cause they mistake it for a bomb.

Avery has a brother named Justin, who lives with his wife Caroline in Seattle. Avery figures she can go see her brother, and meet his new wife that the family has not met yet. While at her brother's house, Avery meets Caroline's brother, (who is staying with them for a few weeks) going by the alias, Miles Patterson, and tells Avery he is Caroline's friend, not her brother.

Miles, (Preston), 35 years old, is actually a DEA agent, who has been undercover for over 7 years, working to shut down the Mexican Drug Cartel. He has been on the streets, undercover as a drug addict, done time in the pen, and lost pretty much all of himself, because of his duty to his country, and the agency. He is a beautifully sculpted tattooed man, sexy as hell, (and know's how to use his sex appeal to his advantage.) He also has the weight of the world on his shoulders, and is filled with self-loathing. He walks through life, never allowing himself to feel anything, till he meets Avery. Then all bets are off. When he meets Avery the sparks fly for both of them. They are thrown into a whirlwind of danger and secrets.

Kissing Fire was written in dual perspective, fast paced, full of humor, laughter, sex, friendship, sadness, grief, and soul searching. I liked this novel, though Avery's character could be a bit quirky, and out there at times! Yet, it worked well with the storyline. The characters were well developed, and grew with the novel. The prose were great, love scenes were steamy, and I was able to feel compassion for the characters. There is so much to this story that I don't want to spoil it. There were a lot of twists, turns, great suspense, and a ton of thrills. Ms. Hargrove did an excellent job, and I look forward to reading more of her novels in the future.

I give Kissing Fire, by A. M. Hargrove 4 Fast Paced, Thrilling, Self-Sacrificing, Scary, All Consuming Stars.

My Favorite Quotes:

"Boy oh boy, was Just Miles hot. Make that boiling. Scorching. Molten lava kind of hot. Messy dark brown, slightly wavy hair that was not long but not short either. And, oh what a mouth he had. It made me want to jump on board and ride that train for life. His lips were the perfect kind of full and every so often, he'd run his tongue across them and I'd automatically squirm. His face was pure angular
perfection...high cheekbones with those slight hollows beneath them, that were the perfect shape to accomodate my lips. But those eyes...my oh my. They were golden brown, like coffee with lots of cream. I could only imagine what they looked like right when he was climaxing." (eARC pg. 41)

"Please don't deny me of this, he begged. I looked at him and, oh dear God, he was nothing less than magnificent. The sheer sight of him stole my breath and turned my blood into liquid fire, leaving me burning with lust and desire. I wanted to carve him into my memory, so I would have this sight to cherish forever." (eARC Pg. 129)

"Then, we shared an unbelievably hot kiss...I mean a toe curling, tummy tightening kiss. Next, sweet honey Preston tells me he won't have sex with me (will someone pinch me?) until things are right emotionally (pinch me again, please) and he's never felt that way about a girl before." Kissing Fire is a contemporary romance that blends a comedic and serious tone to tell this story. Based on the book’s description, I expected more of a dangerous, action-oriented story involving romance, so I was happily surprised to find this book includes funny, light-heart moments to provide relief from some of the painful, and, at times, heart-wrenching aspects of the storyline.

The initial setting for the story is Charleston, South Carolina, where Avery Middleton realizes her social and romantic life has become stagnant. Longing for a change, she accepts a job in Seattle and moves with the intention of starting over. Although Avery comes from a privileged family, she wants to be independent from her family’s wealth and be successful on her own. Avery is an easily likeable character because of her feisty nature, humorous thoughts, and the unexpected situations she often finds herself in, leading to, sometimes, embarrassing and belling jiggling laughter.

Upon arrival to Seattle, Avery visits her brother who has also moved away from home to start a life with his new wife. Caroline. There, she coincidentally meets Preston Mitchell, Caroline’s brother, who is staying with the couple. Preston is a DEA agent who has recently returned to the country after completing his latest undercover mission.

When Avery and Preston meet, they instantly fall into lust for each other. By providing both Avery’s and Preston’s point-of-view, I was able to really connect with and care about them because I’m given insight into their private thoughts that clearly reveal their insecurities and vulnerabilities.

Working undercover has put Preston into more than his share of unimaginable horrors. Because of his past, Preston sees himself as “Dirty. Disgusting. And certainly not fit for proper society.” He believes that he will never find a good woman capable of loving him because of the physical and psychological scars that have skewed his perspective.

Preston initially hides his profession from Avery to protect his identity, but, when a Mexican Drug Cartel finds his location, he is forced to go on the run, dragging Avery along with him, since she now become a target as well. Although Avery is strongly attracted to the sexy DEA Agent, her low self-esteem and body image issues make her think Preston would never be interested in her. An awkward situation provides the impetus for them to reveal their insecurities and paves the way for romance.

I fell in love with Preston over the course of the story. His willingness to sacrifice his personal happiness for his country is more than admirable, given what he’s endured. I also loved how he is direct and honest with Avery, so that she knows what she’s getting into before they pursue the relationship. As he reveals the gritty, raw details of his past, Avery always responds to him in a way that soothes Preston’s mind and body. They are so good for each other on an emotional level because they consistently boost one another’s self-esteem. I also appreciated that Preston wants more than just a sexual relationship with Avery. He wants her heart before they become intimate. Their time alone together allows their attraction to grow into love. The passion between them is hot, steamy, and intense!

Everything is wonderful until Preston confesses a secret he’s been keeping from Avery, and everything falls apart. Avery is angry, hurt by Preston’s actions, and she doesn’t feel she can trust him anymore. Once Preston explains the motivation behind his actions, I know I could forgive him. However, Avery thinks he’s destroyed her life. I have to admit, I think Avery overreacts by giving up on their relationship so quickly after they have worked so hard to establish a strong foundation.

Nevertheless, Avery leaves Preston. She leaves Seattle to start over yet again. Although the hurt and pain over their breakup lingers, a visit from her friend Melissa, a female sumo wrestler, with her outrageous antics provides a nice diversion to Avery’s somber mood.

A central question from this point in the story is whether Preston and Avery can truly let go of their love for each other. In the midst of all this angst, Preston and Avery again find their lives endangered, and the action and suspense that follow, as these conflicts are resolved, also contribute to making this book a worthwhile read.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Okay Miss Hargrove. This is so unfair. You had me busting out laughing all the way through your book. When I wasn’t laughing, I was oohing and aahing. I had to stop to catch my breath.

I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish and there wasn’t enough jolt in my morning java to get me past first gear all day.

It was exhausting, but I’m not too tired to talk about Kissing Fire.

I’ve met Ava and Preston before. This is the third book in the Edge Novels. It’s more like a companion book and can be read alone, but I’d recommend reading them in order. All of these characters are wonderful. You’ll read honorable mentions of Justin and Terri, and Pearce and Lexi. Now these two have their own stories to tell.

Ava is moving up, up, and away, heading to her new job in Seattle.

Her mother’s worried about her love life, always asking if she’s in love, things have gone stale and she needs a change.

The one person she’ll really miss is her sumo wrestling roommate, Melissa. I’m not kidding, Melissa is a sumo wrestler. She wears the most outlandish clothes and her hair color and style change on a whim. She’s a fiercely loyal friend to Ava and beware the person that dares to hurt her.

Ava is sassy, and a bit vicious when she has to be, definitely not a wallflower or one that will just lie down and take it. The airport scene had me rolling on the floor, and wait until you find out what was in the box that caused all the problems at the gate.

So Ava moves to Seattle and it just so happens that’s where her brother Justin is living. They’ve had a bit of a falling out, but Ava stops in to see him.

He’s remarried now and his new wife, Caroline, welcomes her with opens arms and talks her into staying with them until she finds a place to live.

Meanwhile, Preston’s wrapped up his work in Bangkok and it’s time to vanish and head back to the states. He needs a break from his undercover work for the DEA, and what better way to spend it than with his sister, Caroline and her new husband, Justin.

Can you see what’s about to happen?

Two single people, both showing up to spend time with their brother and sister, will be sharing space under the same roof. If they hooked up, both couples would be kissing or double cousins. I have some.

The chemistry between these two is like sparklers, no, more like bottle rockets.

Ava sees her sex life may be looking up and Preston is like a puppy dog whenever she so much as looks at him. They’re goners, people.

My thoughts

The characters are fantastic. Each one is so individually written you swear you can hear them talking. Listen closely and you’ll catch Ava’s southern accent.

The attraction is electrifying and the sex, well, I’ll leave that to you to read.

There is a lot of juggling going on. Secrets that will shock you but also make you say, “Alright!”

Danger lurks around the corners and the thrills and suspense, whew. What a train ride.

Ava’s grandmother, Avery, makes another appearance. I was so happy to see her. She’s sweet but also a tough old bird. Just what a loving grandmother should be.

Kissing Fire is a perfect summer read for by the pool, or in bed. Yeah, in bed.

All I can say about that is, “Catnip!”

If an author can make me forget where I’m at and make me laugh out loud, drawing stares from others waiting in the dentist office, then they’ve succeeded in writing a winner.

I’ve read all of A.M. Hargrove’s books and will read anything new she writes. She won’t have to ask for a review. Just send them on, pretty please.

I recieved this book from the author. My words and opinions are my own.

Ava needs a change. Her self-esteem is at an all time low, following the end of a relationship and some weight gain that followed. She’s just accepted a job in Seattle and couldn’t be more excited. If only she could have the support of her family. Mainly her mom, who it seems only thinks about herself and not even bothering with Ava anymore. Yep, Seattle is looking very good about now!

Preston also needs a change. He is over putting his life on the line for his job. And don’t even mention trying to have a relationship. He gets his kicks by paying for them. Because no woman in their right mind would have him. He’s tainted, and that will never change. He will have to live with his demons until the day he dies.

Let’s fast forward a few days and we find Ava at her brother’s house. They haven’t seen or talked to each other in a long time and she isn’t even sure she is welcome. She meets Preston for the first time here and is really having a hard time taking her eyes off of him. The thoughts going through her head were hilarious and HOT! She also couldn’t control her mouth to save her life. The thing was, Preston couldn’t even tell her his real name. She couldn’t know the truth about what was really going on or she could be in danger. But bless her heart; she couldn’t stay away from embarrassment!

It doesn’t help that Miles/Preston is also having less that pure thoughts about Ava. Deep down though, he knows she would or could never love a man like him. But that doesn’t matter when a package comes for him in his real name. He’s been made, his cover no longer safe. That also meant that Ava, her brother Justin, and his wife Caroline, weren’t safe either. He had to get her to pack quickly and leave with him with no explanation. But hey, if I had a hot, tattooed and pierced guy telling me I had to leave with him in order to live, I don’t think I’d have a problem with that! He already knew he got her motor purring!

With their escape into the mountains, comes another complication. Falling in love! It wasn’t planned but it happened and Preston decided that he wasn’t going to tell her something pretty important, just so he could keep her with him for a while longer. Well, I guess you could say the shit hit the fan when he came clean. Ava not only left, but she ran away as fast as she could! Missing Preston, Ava makes a new life for herself. Preston is miserable but knows how bad he messed up. He is not going to give up though. He finally found the real thing and Ava taught him that what happened to him was not his fault and he is worth loving. If only he can make her forgive him.

I give this story a 4/5. There were a couple parts in the book that actually embarrassed me. That’s an odd thing for me to say too. I enjoyed the story very much otherwise. I loved how Ava would get tongue tied when she first met Preston and the chemistry between them was off the charts! I also loved how they worked through their issues together while getting to know one another. The cover of the book is what made me want to read it and it didn’t disappoint.

Avery is heading off to Seattle to start making a name for herself. She wants to see if she can make it on her own without being tied to the Middleton name. So she lands herself a job with a different company and moves to Seattle to make a go of it. Just a few days in and she meets 'Miles' at her brother's house and she is smitten as a kitten with him. (Literally. Read the book...you'll understand.) But Miles has lots of baggage and skeletons in his closest that he has yet to share with anyone. And he is not about to taint the only perfect thing to come along in his messed up life. Will these two be able to overcome their pasts and make a future together? Or will their demons rear their ugly head and make it nearly impossible?

I just adore the flip out of this series. But I will say this one irk on my nerves a bit. Not tenough for me to hate it. Oh no. I really liked it. But I think I am just not a big fan of Avery. I did love that she is a normal girl…and by normal I mean she had some meat on her bones. She is not the skinny type we are used to reading about. And that was refreshing. What I didn’t care for was her attitude halfway through the book. When a big secret is revealed she treated it as if it was twenty times worse. When in reality, I didn't think it was that bad. Then she chats with her brother about it all and tries to justify her actions and compare them to his past troubles. I am sorry but they do not compare in any way. He actually lost someone and lived in hell for 2 years believing his girlfriend was dead. This secret and his loss do not equal up in my eyes. So to me, I think a little bit of her sheltered upbringing was showing.

But how I love me some Preston (also known as Miles in the beginning). I hurt for his past that was slowly revealed over time. The poor guy had been through such hell and anguish it is inconceivable to think about. I truly cannot wrap my mind around it. To say he was dedicated to a job is an understatement. Oh my heart. It is just that bad. But he is stronger in the end for it, even though he thinks himself as an unworthy soul.

What is awesome about this story is you don’t have to have read the 1st two in the series to understand this book. But I will tell you that you will be missing out big time if you don’t read them. Each one tells a different story with a different Middleton family member. And each one is…well, they are amazing. I think book 2 has been my favorite so far.

I recommend this book (and series) most definitely. Lots of steamy romance, lots of heartbreak, and lots of suspense! Hargrove is an excellent storyteller and has one heck of an imagination. So yeah, go get this series, kick back for a bit, and drink up the goodness.

I love a book that can not only have the dark element in them but also have the added humor and not take anything away from the story. Kissing Fire does just that!

Preston has a very dark and hard past due to his job - he's an undercover DEA agent. Yes he's hot, sexy and all masculine but he has kept his past so far buried that it has not allowed him to be with any woman emotionally and physically. He is tainted and doesn't feel worthy of anyone.

Avery was brought up in a family of wealth and could have anything she wanted. But as the saying goes - Money doesn't buy happiness. Avery has always wanted to make something of herself and not be a man's arm candy. I LOVE that Avery is a real woman - not some perfect model-like character. THANK YOU Anne for writing a character that the majority of your readers can and will relate to! Avery's wit and humor is how she has been able to deal with things but she too doesn't think she is worthy of any man.

When Preston is forced to place Avery in protective custody with him - things start to heat up between them. They get to know each other on more personal level and he starts to let his guard down and let her in little by little. As time progresses, the passion between these two increases dramatically. Preston has alot of demons in his closet - it will take a very strong woman to not only accept him as is but help him overcome his own issues and self-doubt.

But Preston hasn't been completely honest with Avery while they have been in hiding. When he finally comes clean with Avery, will it bring them closer together or push her away completely?

This book will have you going through so many emotions! And the sex scenes - wow! I am fanning myself now just thinking about them!

Even if you haven't read the previous 2 books, there is enough back story in this book that it won't matter. But if you love this book, you'll love the other two.

Romance e action insieme.

First I want to start by saying that Anne is freaking hysterical. I laughed out loud at some of the antics and dialogue throughout the book. Second thank you so much for writing a story about a girl that's not a flippin pencil! I like to read about real woman that get the hot, muscled and successful man. So thank you Anne!!

Okay, so I've already established that Avery is normal, (let the choir sing) but she's also a bit quirky and has some 'normal' ways about her. She talks too fast when she's nervous, drops food on her clothes, (like I do) and she is very self-consious about her weight. Hey, we could be talking about me here. I may have identified with the lead a little too much. But that's a good thing, right? I like Avery and thank you for writing a character that could be so much like me! Lol

If you've read the first two books you'll know immediately what's going on, if not like I hadn't, it wasn't a problem. It gives you enough back story to the last book that there's no confusion.

Preston has some demons from some of his past undercover work that keeps him from getting close to the right woman. Something ignites in him when he meets Avery and he undoubtedly ends up having to place her in protective custody with him. The more time is spent with each other, the easier it gets for Preston to let his guard down and the more passion ignites. And honey there is passion!

I don't want to give any spoilers away, I don't do that! If you want a fun, sweet and laugh out loud read then this is for you! We have a hot musceled man that's hot for the 'normal' girl, a boisterous best friend that will put tears in your eyes from her shenanigans and a sweet love story that will have you aching to be in Avery's place.

Great read by A.M. Hargrove!!

What happens when two people meet and fall head over heels only to discover that one of them is in fact an undercover agent ? One of my all-time favourite movies is Head Over Heels featuring Monica Potter and Freddie Prince Junior , in the movie Monica works at an art gallery restoring paintings and she falls in love with her next door neighbour played by Freddie Prince Junior who is discovered to be an Undercover FBI agent. Monica feeling betrayed , gets upset and breaks it off with Freddie only at the end they discover they really are meant to be and it's a happily ever after ending for their romance as they discover the "real" Freddie Prince Junior. That's what Kissing Fire by A.M Hargrove reminded me of, that movie. In Kissing Fire we meet Avery Middleton who moves to Seattle to start her new life and catch up with her brother Justin and his new wife Caroline , unbeknownst to her - Caroline is in fact Justin's first wife Terri who supposedly died in a car bombing. Whilst staying at Caroline's Avery meets Preston - Caroline's brother - but of course it's not Preston she is introduced too but "Just Miles" . So begins the relationship between Avery and "Just Miles" , when things start to bloom - Just Miles decides to tell Avery who he really is , feeling betrayed she starts to wonder if everything in their relationship has been a lie .Can Avery forgive Preston for hiding the truth and move forward with their relationship ? or will this be one relationship roadblock that Avery won't be able to move past and this be the end of Avery and Preston's short-lived romance ?
Find out in Book #3 of the "On Edge" Series - Kissing Fire by A.M Hargrove. This book can also be read as a stand-alone novel.

The breezy style of the book was a surprising contrast to suffering that Preston had undergone, but it worked for me. Alternating points of view also worked really well, especially seeing Ava through Preston's eyes after understanding how poor Ava's self image was. I liked the humor through out the story too, even the bits of slapstick involving Melissa.

There were two things than kept me from ranking this a little higher. First, the ending was very anti-climactic. I felt a little deprived that the action involving the Cartel was resolved in one paragraph. The bad guys in the book were pretty much invisible, so I understand this was not meant to be an action adventure or suspense, but a little action would have been nice.

Second, I liked Ava very much until her reaction to Preston's big mistake, which was immature and counterproductive. I understand he did wrong, but, but Ava running away and refusing to even talk about it, damaged the relationship and hurt Preston just as much as he hurt her. It bothered me that he never called her on it, never even seemed to realize it. If she had told him right at the cabin that he couldn't blame his failings on his past and that he needed professional help, they both would have been spared a lot of misery. Of course the characters are not perfect and in relationships, sometimes one person does call all the shots, as it looks like Ava will do in this relationship, but from from a romantic point of view, the HEA felt a little disappointing to me.

Three words: Hot, Steamy and funny! I would also like to say up front, not for teens because that's what I usually review. Now, that said I think I blushed so much to the point I should be a whole new shade. Yes, it was like that and I loved every minute of it. These two characters are a perfect fit because each one is broken and damaged in their own way but it's how they heal one another that makes this a beautiful relationship to watch unfold. Preston is an undercover agent that is still traumatized from a past experience that left him feeling unworthy of real love. Avery has body issues and her relationship with her mother is not what she would like it to be but life just gave her chance to start over and move on with a new job. She meets Preston, who is going by a fake name at the time, by chance at her brother's home and the moment they see each other the thoughts they think are hilarious. I will say that Preston *clears throat* brings out the animal in Avery. Ha! The writing moves well and Hargrove has developed these characters in a way that will make you love them. Overall, this is an interesting read that contains a great deal of sexual content. For a moment, I felt like I was reading a Harlequin romance but the heart of this story is what touched me the most and my recommendation is for adult readers.

Avery Middleton is in a depression. She doesn't like her life his Charleston and feels like her mother is always criticising her about everything. He has her MBA from Harvard but that is still not good enough. She decides to take a job in Seattle where her brother Justin is at along with his new wife Caroline.

Preston Mitchell is an undercover DEA agent and Caroline Cole Middleton's brother (that only a few people know about).

After completing his latest assignment Preston goes to Seattle to spend a little time with Justin and Caroline. While there, Avery shows up one night to see her brother that she hasn't seen in over a year. Avery can't find out about Caroline or about Preston, Miles Petterson a friend to her. When Preston is compromised he must get himself and Avery out of there to save their life. They go to his secure cabin in Montana.

While in Montana Preston has to explain everything to Avery. His past, his job, his sister Caroline, even his prison term. He opens up to her like he has never opened up to anyone. Avery accepts everything that he is telling her unconditionally.

Can Preston and Avery find love while running or will they always be "Kissing Fire" ?

DNF at 45%...

It looks like I'm gonna be the odd man out with this one...

I've seen the rave reviews for this book and it had promise. The cover was HOT! I was so excited to dive into this book but I just wasn't impressed. For me I think it was the writing style and a case of serious insta-love. It borders on cheesy almost. I hate giving bad reviews but for me this book just wasn't good. I found it lacking and unbelievable. I didn't connect with either of the MC's at all. I really wanted to like this book and it does have promise but I just couldn't get through the character's dialogue. Oh and the kitty cat stuff kind of freaked me out a little bit...

With all that being said I would still recommend that you read it. This book wasn't for me but the plot is a good one and it falls in the category of all other suspense romance novels. Honestly if it hadn't been for the dialogue between them I probably would have loved it. Give it a shot and see what you think...

Avery is not your typical "Lady Porn" girl, well at least she doesn't see herself that way. Avery is also pretty goofy actually which a refreshing change in pace. This book goes from Avery's POV to Preston's POV so when you read Preston's POV Avery is not as goofy as she makes herself out to be.
Preston has a lifetime of baggage that is sometimes hard to read. This book is full of Action, Drama, Sex & Romance. I couldn't help but also fall in love with Avery's best friend Melissa - She is something else that's all I'll say :). Lots of hot juicy sex. Fantastic Ending.

Quotes:

"For the first time in my life, I wanted to be a fork."

"I could love you with all my heart and soul."

"I told Preston he was my catnip."

I really dug Preston. I thought Avery was a bit much at times. her rambling and "Avery-kitty" left me feeling embarrassed for her quite often. I also felt her reaction to his confession was over the top. nobody wants to be lied to but come on a hot guy lying to you to spend more time with you, loves you and wants to take care of you . I think we could probably work it out without the crazy I cant trust you drama. just sayin. however when they finally did work it out it was a nice ending.

5 Star Kindle Read

As with book two in this series, it's not part of the Kindle Unlimited program. It's rather unfortunate with the first book being a part of the program. However, for now it doesn't stop me from missing out for now.

I'm sad to know this series has ended. However as with books one and two I was captured and drawn into the story. I can't wait to read more from A.M. Hargrove in the future!
