Japanese artist Takashi Murakami set forth his ideas on Japanese art. I like that he tries to make a link between traditional Japanese art and modern commercial art. In particular, he argues that much of what makes Japanese art Japanese can be found in media such as manga and anime. Having said that, I'm not a big fan of Murakami's art because it lacks heart, for lack of better words. Also, several of the works presented here objectify women, which is a problem for me.
