Of the all the people surrounding the assassination of President Kennedy, few are more mysterious and enigmatic than David William Ferrie of New Orleans. Author Judyth Vary Baker knew David Ferrie personally and worked with him in a covert project in New Orleans during the summer of 1963, and this book examines his strange and puzzling behavior both before and after the assassination. At the time of the assassination, Ferrie was a 45-year-old New Orleans resident who was acquainted with some of the most notorious names linked to the Lee Oswald, Clay Shaw, Guy Banister, Jack Ruby, and Carlos Marcello. He possessed assorted talents and he was at one time a senior pilot with Eastern Airlines until he was fired for homosexual activity on the job; he was also a hypnotist; a serious researcher of the origins of cancer; an amateur psychologist; and a victim of a strange disease, alopecia, which made all of his body void of hair. His odd lifestyle was embellished with an equally bizarre appearance featuring a red toupee and false eyebrows. This is the first book focused solely on David Ferrie and his alleged involvement in the conspiracy to assassinate President John F. Kennedy.
Yes, you will likely find this astounding book fascinating, as evil is sometimes fascinating and incomprehensible. The assassination of President Kennedy was a coup from within. At the time of the assassination, LBJ was under Congressional investigation for crimes committed with Bobby Baker and other crimes committed with Billy Sol Estes which would result in prison for all of them. JFK had already told LBJ that he would not be Vice President. There were many others who wanted JFK gone. JFK had told J.Edgar Hoover (homosexual) that JEH would no longer be head of the FBI because the mandatory retirement of age 70 would be enforced. (As soon as LBJ became President, his first act was an executive order for Hoover to stay in office until he died.) LBJ, JEH, the FBI, the CIA, the Mafia, labor unions, gun-runners, drug smugglers, oil men, hit men, spies, politicians, murderers, bankers, criminals and Cubans all wanted JFK gone. Ferrie was involved with ALL of these. Ferrie was an excellent pilot fired from Eastern Airlines because he promiscuously persisted in stalking, seducing, raping, hypnotizing and sexually molesting young teenaged boys at every opportunity. From the age of ten, Ferrie himself had been molested by priests.
Ferrie looked strange and he WAS strange, he was queer in all senses of that word. He was a complete liar and must have had a high genius IQ to accomplish his many skills. His resume` showed accomplishments above and beyond normal, even when the lies were omitted. He was "a completely disreputable...notorious sex deviate with a brilliant mind being highly trained in mathematics, science, several foreign languages including Latin, modern Greek and ancient Greek" and "completely degenerate...capable of committing any type of crime" which is testimony of Jack Martin to the FBI on November 25, 1963, the assassination was November 22, 1963. Martin reported that Ferrie had hypnotized Oswald with a post-hypnotic suggestion to kill JFK. Perry Russo (a Ferrie conquest) testified that he had overheard Ferrie, Oswald and Congressman Clay Shaw (homosexual) plotting to kill JFK. This FBI evidence lies dormant still.
I am convinced that David Ferrie was deeply involved in the assassination of President Kennedy, the Bay of Pigs and much, much more. "Conspiracy" has become a word to keep people from listening. Conspiracy theorists are ridiculed and mocked as nuts and crazies. However, it seems that research will usually reveal that the conspiracy theorist is telling the truth.
This book is richly documented. There are many photographs which are enlightening proof. As an example of disproving the Warren Commission's finding that Ferrie and Oswald had never met, this book has two photographs (pages 9 & 68) of Ferrie with Oswald together on a weekend CAP (Civil Air Patrol) bivouac, a survival training exercise, with eight other cadets. Ferrie was their adult head, they were one source of his sexual prey. Oswald, at the tender age of fifteen, is seen in the photo (p. 68) with Ferrie and the other young cadets clustered around a camping-out cooking stove. For doubters, there are plenty of other photos, footnotes and references which do prove Judyth's points. I really liked the plethora of photographs.
Was Ferrie a spy, a double agent, maybe a triple agent? Was he a rapist of Lee Harvey Oswald? Was Ferrie himself murdered, and who did it? Was Ferrie involved in the murder of Martin Luther King? There is no doubt that he was highly talented, with medical, legal, scientific, artistic, acting, counselling and military training. Above all, Ferrie is still much of a mystery.
There are plenty of intriguing tidbits in this book, such as Jack Ruby's fingerprint card, a photo of Ernest Hemingway with Fidel Castro and the idea that Hemingway was also spying. There are two other books which overlap and are mentioned in this book. One is "Dr. Mary's Monkey" by Edward T. Haslam and the other is "Me and Lee" by Judyth Vary Baker. It helps to read them before this book.
This book should be read by everyone. It is not a happy book, because it shows the slimy, disgusting underbelly of power and politics and its convoluted machinations. Do we really need spies with their lies and murders and crimes? The book was interesting and it fascinated me. Even though it left mysteries the book gave many answers with documentation about some important events in our national history.
Ferrie fooled the nineteen-year-old author when she questioned him about his trips to Honduras. Ferrie responded that he was investing in a magic tree, the kahunie tree which only grew in Honduras. (See page 181 where she discusses a post by "Cohune Nut Peter" about a magic tree.) Ferrie told the author that the juice of the Kahunie tree nuts "will harden into a mass as strong as iron...rust-proof...will endure for centuries". She remains mystified. But wait- Aha! My research shows that there IS a tree in Honduras called the cojon tree because this tree bears its nuts as fused pairs which look like human testicles. The English translation of "testicles" is cojones which is pronounced "ko-hon-ees". I think that Ferrie enjoyed many laughs with his joke.
The author has undertaken a monumental complex task with this book. There are so many strange and warped characters, so many sub-plots and lies, so many complicated motives and tricks, so many interwoven geographies and international trips, so many murders and "accidents". I could never have done the phenomenal work she did to make sense of all this, and to create a understandable book interesting to read, as well as she has. I commend her.
An editor could smooth out this book. The index needs improvement, the kahonie (cojones) trees are lacking, for one example. There is confusion about Gus Russo and Perry Russo. Perry is not in the index, but some of the listings under Gus are actually Perry. I still don't know who Gus/Perry was and whether he is one person or two. Also, some of the footnotes and appendices would be better incorporated into the body of the text. I would really have appreciated a photo index so I could cross-reference some of the many significant photos verifying the facts.
I gave the book five stars because of the lies and covert information it exposed and because of the importance of an honest government and because it was fascinating to read.
I have little doubt that this story is true. People have always wondered if the truth of the Kennedy assassination would ever be known: it's out there. I believe our republic was destroyed that fateful day in Dallas.
Very informative, a lot of names, what was their roles in the obvious conspiracy to kill jfk. Ferrie a very tormented soul with a lot of demons got himself involved with a lot of bad people, that at one point, he realized nobody can save the president. If you read this book you will learn the powers that control USA. THANKS JUDY FOR YOUR AMAZING MEMORY ,STRONG DESIRE THAT THE TRUE FINALY COME OUT. AMAZING BOOK.
Very informative - destroys myths and negates a book-writing mill. This book shows the things that many have wished to keep hidden for many more decades, perhaps forever. Good for Judyth Vary Baker for revealing what she knows.
After reading Me and Lee, it made sense to read this next to understand more about David Ferris … Mafia Pilot, Participant in Anti-Castro Bioweapon Plot, Friend of Lee Harvey Oswald and Key to the JFK Assassination
Yet another series of unproven claims from this author, she apparently favors including fictional methods in a "non-fiction" book. Featuring tertiary sources that can be edited by anyone such as Wikipedia, Baker ventures on another improbable tour de myth. Seeking to include herself in swaths of history that no verifiable proof supports, Baker offers another batch of unlikely ideas not worth the reading time and effort.
