Pure Souls #2

Once You Go Demon

Rate this book
Proving that Big Boss is not without a sense of whimsy, Hell's former all-star demon, Jerry Romani, finds himself a traded player in the classic war of good versus evil. Taking up residence in the human shell left behind by the death and damnation of Marc Angeletti, Jerry seizes on the chance both to win a trip to the pearly gates and reclaim the heart of witch Riona Dade. Not pleased with the butt-kicking the Pure Souls served up, Lucifer enlists his fallen angel compatriots, the Grigori, to stir up trouble topside. Time ticks closer to the inevitable: Marc's resurrection as a demon on Earth, and Jerry is determined to protect Riona and his shiny new Pure Soul status at all costs. He quickly finds two thousand years of living "la vida demonica" aren't easily undone, however, and old habits are hard to break. Walking the true path is problematic, and Jerry finds his role reversed when he must convince Riona that it's in her best interest to do the same. Even if letting her give into temptation is more conducive to his efforts. And just as Project Woo a Witch starts bearing some forbidden fruit, Destiny delivers one hell of bitch slap. Jerry may have been sent back to Earth to do something Riona can't, something that will ensure the only thing he'll be kissing where she's concerned is his ass goodbye.

Killian McRae

Killian McRae would tell you that she is a rather boring lass, an authoress whose characters’ lives are so much more exciting than her own. She would be right. Sadly, this sarcastic lexophile leads a rather mundane existence in the San Francisco Bay Area. She once dreamed of being the female Indiana Jones, and to that end she earned a degree in Middle Eastern History from the University of Michigan. However, when she learned that real archaeologists spend more time lovingly removing dust with toothbrushes from shards of pottery than outrunning intriguing villains with exotic accents, she decided to become a writer instead. She writes across many genres, including science fiction, fantasy, romance, and historical fiction.

Just as in Pure & Sinful, Killian McRae has me wanting more. How dare she end this book just when I was on the edge of my seat! Hold on tight, this book does not disappoint!
Now first, Riona. Come on! Stop denying what you know you feel for Jerry. Yes, I am Jerry’s cheerleader. Don’t hate! You will be too! Now back to Riona. I know you have had a lot of “truths” thrown at you, but denying what you want versus what you think you should have is not healthy for anyone!
Oh Jerry, once Pure Soul turned demon, now you are…. Well, I cannot tell you what he is. That would mean I would have to spoil some pretty juicy gossip! I can’t do that! Needless to say he has redeemed himself in this installment. Don’t worry, there will be plenty more Jerry coming; I am sure of it by the ending of this book that left me panting and begging for it to not be the ending!
We still get lots of Remi and Dee too, along with others introduced to us in Pure & Sinful. This book was nothing short of great! I cannot go too far into what I liked about this book, again I would be a spoiler. Just trust me when I say this is not your traditional love story/paranormal book. This book stands alone on its own plane!

Spoilers from book 1. And why are u reading a review for the second book If u haven't read the first? Spoil sport. Go read Pure & Sinful!!

4 Demon loving stars. Man every sexually charged word that comes out of that EX demons mouth is like liquid fire to my undies. They seriously just melt right off like ice cream!! Wait, that sounded weird, but u get what I'm sayin right? Jerry has a dirty mouth and dear lord do I love him for it. So when we last seen Riona she was going through a tough moment in life. Hell that was a crap ass cliff hanger that had me yelling and flalling and cussing like my daddy taught me!! I was seriously devastated and sexually frustrated all at the same time. Well OYGD starts a couple of weeks after said devastating cliff hanger. But up side Jerry got to come top side and send out his demon wigglies. Down side it was in Father Marc's very nice defined body. Talk about being a confused as hell!! Girl could go on Jerry Springer and use up the whole hour with how twisted her life is. The man she fell in love with was a priest who killed himself for her because the girl she was getting down and dirty with ended up being Lucifer him/herself while pretending to be her while seducing the priest and then her ex demon boyfriend takes over said priest's body. I can understand her conflict in her girly bit department. And to boot we find out about her good ol' daddy. Who I want to say I didn't see coming. I was completely blindsided by that. Not gonna lie I was so happy for Ramiel in that whole office scene!! I know it's wrong and dirty but come on he is any angel for Christ's sake!! I would like to know what that ride is like! Anywho I loved the book. The twists and turns and pop up of new demons everywhere was just awesome and seriously fun filled (most of the time). Hell even Buddha makes an appearance. Seriously funny shit right there. Riona's mom was one seriously funny/screwed up lady. I love her sarcasm and really bad sense of humor. I appreciated her, probably the only one who did, but still I did. Again this book ended with lots and LOTS of questions left to answer. I seriously hope Killian can write fast because I'm gonna need book three pronto. Now the down side to this book was I didn't get emotionally invested in the characters feelings. Except maybe all the sexual frustration. Most def felt those feelings. But at the end when the "fake" blah blah blah happened and Riona is like "well now my heart and head are in the same place lets do this shit for real" I wasn't feeling it. I didn't have a change of heart cuz seriously I've always been team "Him", but the story was so interesting and engaging that I didn't mind that part so much. It's probably cuz it was written in third POV and I generally don't get emotionally invested when a book is written like that. But I still loved it and would recommend it. Can't wait for book 3!!!

description

Holy Drew Barrymore and the awesomeness of a thousand flying nunchucks! This book is crystal meth on paper and I am now a certified junkie! (Not that I'm an addict, or that I advertise the use of drugs, because I don't. Seriously.)

Thank you, dear Authoress, for summoning me to read and review this book for I have found heaven in a see of overrated cliches. (I'm being overly dramatic, ignore me.)

Following Father Marc Angeletti's sacrifice and consequent damnation to hell in Pure and Sinful (Pure Souls #1), Once You Go Demon deals with the aftermath of the priest's death and Jerry Romani's occupation of Marc Angeletti's body, much to Riona Dade's chagrin.

Thank goodness I learned from previously reading Book 1 in public, so I read this book inside my room, away from prying eyes. It would suffice to say that I did the right thing, because I really didn't want to be caught laughing out loud like a loony.

As always, the writing is quirky! The story-line is thick with plot twists that keep surprising you at every turn. The humor is ever present and the dialogues are sarcastic and overall fun, which translates into me being a rabidly happy camper on sugar rush!

The characters are also very unique. I mean hello, goddess Persephone making sinfully forbidden love with an archangel! You just don't see Greek mythology interlace with Catholic characters in that position (pun intended). Plus, we get to see Buddha being slapped by Riona, which I think, is pretty sweeeet. LOL. (I should probably shut up because I might give out huge spoilers.)

Anyways, I WAS SO RIGHT WHEN I PROCLAIMED IN MY REVIEW OF PURE AND SINFUL THAT JERRY ROMANI IS A CHARACTER WORTHY OF MENTION! And yes, typing in all-caps was necessary to express the joy and admiration I feel for Jerry Romani a.k.a Gaius Gallicus. I was never on Team Marc when I read Pure and Sinful, so I guess it's but right to openly admit that I am on Team Jerry.

Jerry Romani is the highlight of this book, no doubt about it. I love the fact that he didn't try to convince the other pillars of his change of heart, he just proved their distrust wrong through his actions. Secondly, I also love the fact that even though he's head over heels in love with Riona, he chose to give her time to mourn and sort out her feelings. I think that really spoke volumes of how much he loved her.

Overall, I really, really loved this book! It's exactly my cup of tea with just the right amount of paranormal blend and wisecracks! And if there's ever a next installment, count me in!

To end this review, let me give you a quote from Jerry Romani:

"The only insane thing in all this is how much I loved you, even when I was damned. And how much I still love you now. And how we're not doing anything about it, for the sole reason that you're not ready."

Killian McRae has just put me through the blender and then a meat grinder and after beating me into submission doused me with a flammable substance and obliterated me.
Quite frankly I don't know how I'm even writing this now.
So the continuation to Riona's saga had me a bit detached initially, struggling to come to terms with the loss of Marc my favourite character, going through the motions just like Riona did to keep up appearances, not wanting to warm up to the reborn with a higher purpose Jerry in the body of pure souls Marc. I kept thinking it was so unfair for Riona and right through too when we come to know the reality of her origin and then again when the real reality breaks through at the end.
Ain't good to be Riona that's for sure. But Feelings are what I felt .....each an everyone....even when Riona's heart turned soft for jerry when she realised how much he endured for her I never thought at the beginning of the book that would happen. And the cliffhanger at the end has just topped all the angst off. Making me feel so much and not knowing what to do about it. I'm still waiting for Marc to be redeemed,as the connection formed in book1 was toooo strong I'm sure Riona will agree but we both know there is no absolution in that department.
So I leave it to Killian to ease my fears, untangle my knots and make me giggle and laugh even in this dark but intriguing cluster bucket of wild crazy fantastic magical characters that just don't leave me even after I've started way too many books as a rebound.

No disappointment here. This book was fantastic. Jerry has a mouth like a porno star and can send liquid heat in all the right places. Although Riona has had a lot to deal with she has so much more on her plate this time. A surprise hook up is revealed with characters you would not have imagined and you learn more about Riona's birth and father in this book. I loved Pure and Sinful and if at all possible found Once you Go Demon even more appealing. Now the only problem is waiting for the next in the series. Killian McRae reels you in and keeps wanting more. Read Pure and Sinful first so you understand the plot and the characters and then treat yourself to Once you go demon.

For me, this was even better than the first book. It's pretty hard to read this one and not be team Jerry. Marc doesn't really even make an appearance until the very end and well, he didn't give me the warm and fuzzies (I don't think that's a real word but you get it). I can't wait for the next installment. Can she redeem Marc? Can anyone compare to Jerry's charm? I am not sure but I can't wait to find out.

I love the sarcasm and the very intellectual jokes that Ms. McRae is able to impart in these books. Nothing better than SNARKY! We are left wanting to know what happens next. A great mix of romance and gods/goddesses/angels and of course demons.

This series is a great discovery. I really enjoyed the book. Its fresh in a genre that can repeat itself with flawed characters that you connect with. Nothing is black and white.

AND things are just heating up.....

I will try to keep spoilers out, but heads up if you haven't read book one. :) So, now we are getting more of Jerry, who was in book one, and I liked him. But he's awesome in this one. Riona was dealing with the incidents from book one. The cliff hanger at the end had everyone wanting more. This starts a little after that. And now, Jerry has his demon claws in Father Marc. You see, Marc did something to protect Riona, yeah it'll blow your mind. And now, Lucifer has is paws in everyone, Jerry, Riona's ex is using Marc to do what needs to be done, and Riona is left there trying to pick up the pieces.

Man, the plot twists have gone spiral. Like, There is so many things i didn't see coming. Riona's family. Marc's body use. Jerry's softer side. I mean come one. Like.... Persephone and an Archangel, in that kinda position. Uh huh, and Buddha, he gets it from Riona. And some very vool Greek mythology characters.

The writing is fantastic. I held onto my seat, because I turned those pages, and there's that whole nuther cliff hanger so be prepared. But seriously, this is so unique a refreshing. I loved it and I think there's going to be so much more to come from book three! :) 5 DEMON PAWS!!

Another good read but a little more emotional than the first book, Pure & Sinful. It actually had me in tears.

Still some really great one-liners that made me smile. Good humour, brilliantly written sarcasm and well-written and believable characters.

I'd love to know when the next book is coming our way.

This book continues on from the first and was an even better read.

Alot more goes on in this book and it will have you questioning.

It again was a well written read and the characters fantastic, on to book 3 to find out the outcome.

If you liked Pure and Sinful, You will fall in love with Once you go demon. Could not put this book down. This is one of her best books yet. I look forward to finding out what will happen. Marc grows on you. But so does Jerry. They both leave a mark on you and leave you wanting both. I am on edge to read the next book. I may need therapy before this is over. Only kidding!

I wasn't keen on the start, it was a bit jumbled up. I also felt the book was a bit whiny but overall I enjoyed the characters again and I'm looking forward to what I hope will be a excellent 3rd book.
