This is a nice collection of John Singer Sargent's paintings, along with text to help give context to the author's work and life. However, because it's an older book, almost all of the pictures are in black and white with only a handful of color pictures spread throughout the book. The paintings really lose their oomph in grayscale. If you read this book, I recommend supplementing it with other materials on the artist or with internet searches by painting title so that you can see them as they were made to look.
