Alfred Stieglitz was an American photographer and modern art promoter who was instrumental over his fifty-year career in making photography an accepted art form. In addition to his photography, Stieglitz is known for the New York art galleries that he ran in the early part of the 20th century, where he introduced many avant-garde European artists to the U.S. He was married to painter Georgia O'Keeffe.

I especially enjoyed reading the foreword written by Georgia O'Keeffe and appreciated some of the photographs she had chosen for the book. My complaint would be the repetition or redundancy obvious in her selection. But I am a big fan of the documenting of a specific life and the accomplishment of a large body of work. O'Keeffe seems to have appreciated the efforts and persuasions of her Stieglitz.

A stunning collection. I am fascinated by the interaction between these two artists and the results of their collaborations, specifically in Stieglitz's portraits of O'Keeffe.

This book is a beautifully printed collection of Stieglitz's photographs of Georgia O'Keeffe. The work dates from 1917 to 1930.
I would think that a contemporary viewer would need to have an exceptional interest the history of photography or the careers of Stieglitz or O'Keeffe to enjoy this book.
The photographs are mostly low contrast and many are in a sepia tint.
Many of the photographs are not portraits but body details such as hands or torso.
The work is important and worthwhile investigating but few will want to add this book to their library.

Exquisite black and white photographs of Georgia O'Keeffe taken by her husband Alfred Stieglitz over a period of 30 years. I especially like the photographs of her hands. Her hands are an artist's hands; they look like sculptures.
