Sara Putnam has spent the last two years searching for her biological father, Howard. When she finds him murdered, she has even more questions. As she starts her own investigation, she meets Howard's eccentric, co-inventor partner, his ex-wife and their son who calls his mother "the bank," plus an assorted cast of suspects. She also has to deal with her adopted mother's roadblocks, her crazy roommate's problems, sexual harassment at work and her best friend's strange illness. Sometimes quirky, sometimes serious, Sara's Search, as one reviewer said, will keep you flipping those pages.
Some short stories written by Jan Christensen began to appear in print magazines in the mid-to-late-90s. By this century, more appeared in both print and ezines, and now her list of published stories is over seventy. She‘s been nominated for two Derringer Awards, and one story from Hardluck Stories has been published in an anthology edited by Dave Zeltserman and Ed Gorman titled, On Dangerous Ground.
In 2004, one of her novels, Sara’s Search, was published and is now available on Kindle. After that, eleven more mystery books have been published. And she continues to persist.
This is a haunting book. From the moment we meet Sara until the grand finale, I couldn't stop reading, and when I couldn't read, this story was in my thoughts. It helped that it took place in my old stomping grounds, Northern New Jersey. I even lived in an apartment similiar to Sara's so I had lots of reference points. Christensen never hits a wrong note. She's got the venacular, the geography and the sensory feeling of NY/NJ during the time of her story. What a great read. It's not a spoiler to say that Sara's search is for her biological father, and she's completely stonewalled by her mother. It's a touchy subject and it's deftly handled. The interplay of emotions between mother and daughter rings true throughout. I'm looking for more from this writer.
I actually know the author! This is a fantastic mystery with a great plot and character development. I accidently spilled wine all over my signed copy and never had the heart to tell her, but after getting home and airing it out by a fan for several nights I did eventually read it. Loved this book and I hope she writes more!
Great medical mystery. I learned about Wegener's disease which is very hard to diagnose and not thought about much. It is very dibilitating and can cause death if not discovered in time.
