The book was very slow moving. The writing was repetitive and not the most eloquent. M.J. was a real piece of work kept stringing Alli along, only to push her away because she was scared to be in a relationship. It was frustrating to see the same thing over and over again for almost 350 pages.

Loved this as a fanfic. Re-read after 3 years. The unequal relationship (D/s) reminded me of Riley Lashea's Behind the Green Curtain, though Turning Tides is more emotional and the other more erotic. It is endlessly frustrating. Best appreciated by the hopeless romantic. :)

4.5 stars

P.S. The author has written an epilogue of sorts (though its more of a vignette) set a few months after the close of the book. Read it here: http://xenafiction.net/scrolls/ak_nat...

I read the online version of Turning Tides a long time ago so I bought ebook by Regal Crest released this month (I prefer ebooks over paper books). I liked it even better than the first time. Not just because of editing but because this is one of those long captivating stories that are getting better and better with each new reading. A character-driven romance with well cut proportions of drama, passion, angst, love... all in all a great book. Unfortunately, this is the author's only published book. On the other hand, the author fortunately does have some other very good online stories, especially the historical romance novel Second Son. Too bad it is not published.

I am sorry to say this, but I almost gave up on finishing it... I have a major problem with characters like M.J. - I find them to be completely unattractive, royal a...oles and pompous jerks. And that is not something I'm looking forward to in a good romance book. Again, I am sorry, but this book just wasn't "it" for me.

For me, reading this book was like driving past a 20 car pile up on the highway. You drive by, know that you shouldn't be looking, but you still do.

It was an excercise in frustration, but I still wanted to know how it ended.

Unfortunatly, nearing the end, my patience was severly tested, and I started skipping text, just to see if Morgan would finally be able to epress her feelings. To me, it never seemed to have happened.

Oh well, I never got the feeling this was a relationship that would stand the test of time.

I dunno.

The book started off very well, but quickly went downhill after the first erotic encounter. MJ spends a large part of the book taking and then clamming up and deluding herself. Allison spends a large part of the book giving and then running off to cry, panic, and cry some more. They're both weak and behave in a shockingly cowardly fashion, and it was very tiresome and annoying.

A great story filled with angst. Admittedly I didn't like M.J. most part of the book - she's a piece of work and insensitive most of the time. I can totally understand why Allison was exasperated. I'm glad she redeemed herself towards the very end. In my opinion though - the author's Epilogue of sorts posted on her website would have been a great Epilogue for the book.

Alli arrives to a new town and a new job in Human Resources. On her first day she is nearly run down by MJ, the company president and a gorgeous, intense woman.

MJ knows that dating a staffer is a bad idea, but in addition to being beautiful, Alli is competent, smart and trustworthy. As their friendship deepens, she wonders if she can let her feelings go.

This started out as a uber Xena fanfic, and you kind of can tell. Its not bad, but clearly rough around the edges. If it was released now, it'd likely get heavily polished up.

It’s a great story badly told. Just needed to be trimmed, polished, cut and reposition information to grant great reveals, so it wouldn’t be too repetitive.

Just read this one for the third Time in four years and still in love with it. Ice queen and angst, just what i like! I was not aware it was a Xena fanfic, althought physicals descriptions should have hint me... could have been 4,5 stars because i find the end a little bit rushed.

This is a poorly written book even though the plot was captivating but there were numerous grammatical errors and it was just unnecessarily long. In addition there were confusing assertions like Alli's favorite sister at the beginning of the book being introduced as the younger one and then afterwards as the older one....Anyways it could have been a good story if not for some of these faults.
