Jaellyn's mixed heritage of elfin and Kresh has given her powerful magic. But her Kresh legacy carries a heavy price: a missing portion of her soul. In a quest to make herself whole, Jaellyn must confront bloodthirsty dragons, bewitched forests, and hideous shape shifters. Accompanied by ex-acolyte and apprentice thief Tanis, Jael sets out into unknown country to find the father who may hold the key to bringing Jael's mixed bloods into harmony. But even if Jael can cross dangerous and unmapped lands, and find a race of people known only in legend, who knows if they can help her, or if they are even willing to try?
Overall I have loved this series (this is last book) but like the ending of book .5 (Wild Blood) the ending was very rushed - even more so with this one.
I'm not saying that there needed to be chapter upon chapter to end the book, but I had main 2 issues with the ending: 1) there was no reason for Tanis to join Jael in the hallway where she was to be judged (and if I'm being honest Tanis got on my nerves after awhile in general) I'm sure the author's intent was to show he was there for her, but he was just furthering their ire of the Enlightened Ones, and what if that had cause her judgement to be null? did he even think about that?? 2) so, she recieves her soulkeeper and just puts it on and then...nothing? no description of how she now feels whole? they just go on saying, ok thanks now we're gonna head home! Considering this was the most lengthy book of the entire series I feel there was room enough to add a few more pages of them makingg peace with the Kresh and packing up and heading home with a moment of reflection etc.
All that being said I feel the same of many other fans of the series, that I wish there was more - but some of the endings are a bit meh.

I always loved this book and all the author's other stories. I wish she had written more books. Her characters are approachable and yet also wonderfully foreign. The land is just obscure enough to not be ours but also familiar enough to make it believable. I love her humor and her characterization.
Cheap ending still. It's slow to start off until the last two pages, when everything happens, and then she leaves it sort of hanging. I'd prefer a longer story, actually.
