Beyond the Darkness

Rate this book
- The conclusion of the Refuge Inc. series.

Phoenix—a dark, vast ruin, speckled with sporadic rays of light pushing its way through the dark, dense clouds. Adam and Elliot wander the collapsed city for days before taking shelter at the nearly-standing Arrowhead hospital. Their days are filled with hopes of rescue and a deep need for emotional and mental closeness, until the harsh reality take over their thoughts—their food and supplies are dwindling, and they are in desperate need of assistance and reprieve.

They're forced to return to the devastation they narrowly escaped … the hellish compound, also known as Refuge Inc.

This time, armed with a handgun containing four bullets and a dangerous plan, they make their way across the devastated city and back to the compound. Adam's determined to do whatever he must to survive, even allowing grief-stricken Elliot to take the lead and make some of the most life-changing decisions they would ever have to make.

Can they win their final fight for survival?

This is the third book in this series and the blurb says the last instalment. It is best understood if you read them all in order. I have to say I am disappointed it’s over but at the end of the book I do see there is more form the author and related stories though I will dearly miss Adam and Elliott.
Back to the story. Adam and Elliot have escaped Refuge Inc. They went back to the hospital but it’s too late there and now food is running out. A group of other survivors run up on them to rob them for food and medicine.
I really I enjoyed how this story was a bit different form the last two. I was glad that Adam finally embraces his feelings. The emotions and physical connection between Elliot and Adam was beautiful and made me very happy! The twists just kept on coming and kept you on edge. I do have to say however I was reading along excited and bam it ended. I would have liked a bit more closure than I got but all in all it was a fantastic book and I was glad to see that Leslie has more coming and I can’t wait to see what happened a century later!
I recommend this if you like post-apocalyptic, Dystopian, tales of survival, and some hot sensual man-sex.

Adam and Elliot have escaped from the Refuge Inc Compound and now find themselves once again foraging for food on the outside. Resources are scarce, and they meet up with a new group of survivors who I may have actually enjoyed a bit more than the characters from inside the compound.
There are plenty of twists and turns in this novel, and it’ll keep you interested until the very end. I am a bit sad to see the end of this story, but I’m very excited that while Adam and Elliot’s story may be done, we haven’t seen the last of Refuge Inc.

I received this book via Goodreads Don't Buy My Love program in exchange for an honest review.

This third installment of the Refuge Inc series takes Adam and Elliot back into the underground bunker they escaped from in book twos they had lived for weeks in the hospital, but now water and food are more scarce. They strike out on their own but are ambushed by armband of three survivors--Dylan, Tyler and Mira.

Unable to convince the invaders they can't help them, they tell them to go to Refuge Inc. Dylan tells Elliot and Adam the reason no one is coming to rescue them is because North Korea has attacked the US and all forces are fighting. With this in mind, Elliot and Adam decide the best plan is to use Refuge Inc's radio to transmit a message begging for assistance.

Inside the compound they find few survivors. Many fled in the weeks since Adam and Elliot escaped. Now the prophet is incarcerated and a crazed Mason is running the show--what little remains. There is some danger, and a few standoffs, but they manage to get a message off on the radio begging for rescue.

The rest if HEA, but not without deadly complications.

The story is okay. I struggled throughout the series with the horrible grammar, spelling and syntax. This book had less clunky dialogue than the previous episodes, but at times I simply shook my head, unsure how some of these words could have possibly made sense in the scene.

This is the last installment in this series and was the book I enjoyed the most. Adam and Elliott are now trying to survive outside of the compound. They face many difficulties and decide to return to the compound, but on their terms. I was happy to see that they turned to one another for strength instead turning on each other. This story is more action packed and you feel committed to the characters and the story.

Third book in this series and it was just as good as its predecessors. I loved the blend of character and romance development along with the action. Not one with a lot of heat, but I loved the elements of tension and danger. Twists were great. That epilogue gave me chills. Loved these guys as characters and as a couple. Dystopian Romance fans should definitely grab this one up.
