Imogene Sol has had to work twice as hard for everything she has earned as a cadet at The Ring Academy on Serta. An orphan of notorious parents who killed hundreds of thousands of people in a bombing against the Federation, most people hate her by name alone, others have gone out of their way to make her life difficult. Though she’s managed to acquire a handful of trusted friends over her years at the academy, most of her peers loathe her. But she’s made her mark in the top ten of her cadet class and she’s ready to compete for what’s next.
As the Year Seven Final Trials begin—a series of tests to determine placement within the Federation—Imogene knows all her hopes are riding on her performance. But when she’s framed for an offense that could not only get her expelled from the academy but also incarcerated, Imogene must discover who’s behind the threat against her. When her greatest competition, Timaeus Kade, offers to help her solve the mystery to clear her name, Imogene must decide if she’s willing to trust him. The stakes are high. Only the mysterious saboteur strikes again, justifying she needs his help, proving the stakes aren’t just her future anymore but her life.
As a kid, CL Walters’s world revolved around two things: stories and make believe. She’s built a real life around those two passions as a teacher of stories and a writer of make believe. From a small town in Oregon, she attended college in a smaller town in Oregon majoring in English and adding experiences to fill her creative reservoir. She married her college sweetheart and moved to Hawaiʻi where she now lives. The rich diversity and cultural complexity of Hawaiʻi has added to the tapestry of her creative journey.
In 2020, she started Mixed Plate Press —a publishing imprint—with her husband and has grown it into a thriving business as a published author, writing coach, ghostwriter, editor, and teacher.
She says she reads and writes everyday and her mission as a writer is to create stories that resonate with the truth and offer a place of hope.
"The Ring Academy: The Trials of Imogene Sol" by C.L. Walters is an exhilarating Sci-Fi novel with a dash of romance thrown in for good measure.
The book follows Imogene Sol, an orphan of infamous parents and a seventh-year student at the Ring Academy. She has a few close friends, but most cadets hate her due to her appalling legacy. Her parents were deemed responsible for the death of many during the uprising against the Federation, and her peers cast her in the same light as her parents. As the saying goes: "The parents have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge", meaning she pays for her parents' sins.
Our heroine has to pass four challenging trials/tests to secure a good placement within the Federation. Securing a good placement is no easy feat for our heroine, considering who her parents were. Nothing comes easily for her, and she has to overcome many obstacles to keep her place at the top of the class. The plot thickens when she becomes the target of someone determined to get her expelled from the Academy. As the threats accelerate and she almost dies in one of the trials, not only her future but also her life is on the line.
With the help of her good friends, Vempur, Jenna, and Tsua, she tries to figure out who is behind the threats and clear her name after being falsely accused of a crime she didn't commit. And when her fiercer competitor, Timaeus Kade, offers to help her, she must decide whether to accept his assistance. She needs to let go of her trust issues and fears and decide if he can be trusted. The wrong decision will lead to her downfall.
This is a high-adrenaline, fast-paced, and imaginative story featuring a valiant and resolute heroine one can't but root for as she deals with the bad hand life dealt her. I admired her determination and gutsiness and love her character development. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters that revealed bits of themselves, and I appreciate that the author didn't overload us with their backstories.
The world-building was great and explained through the illustrations in the book. I loved that the graphics inserted in the book also showed the different species and explained the organizations that shaped the world and the rules of the trials. My only issue with the book was that the text within the graphics was too small to read. Additionally, there is a playlist at the end of the book, which is awesome.
I found this book to be quite engaging and actually had a bit of difficulty putting it down. I loved the characters, I loved the plot, and I love that there is a second book in this series on its way. I would love to read the second book and see how this intriguing story continues to develop. I highly recommend the book to readers who enjoy the combination of trials, mystery, romance, and strong female characters. It is a ride that won't want to get off! 5 out of 5 stars!

The Trials of Imogene Sol
First, the audio for this book is amazing. I could listen to the narrator’s voice all day everyday - and I enjoy my silence. Jenn Lee did a phenomenal job bringing this book to life. While the book is a fab read, the narration is even better. So if you prefer audiobooks I’d def recommend listening to this one.
I loved this story so much! It’s one of those fun reads. It reminded me of The Hunger Games a little with the trials. I loved all the diagrams and extras between the chapters. They added an extra layer of intrigue to the whole book and added to the overall narrative.
While this is a space science-fiction-lite story it’s also a mystery. So I quite enjoyed these genres mixing together. You’ll love Imogene’s character. It’s well written and will keep you entertained.

The Ring Academy (though, the cover is a little bit confusing, title-wise) was an interesting sci-fi about Imogene Sol, the daughter of two infamous criminals who bombed, and subsequently killed, several members of the Federation. Now 22, Imogene attends the Ring Academy, where she is competing against people who hate her to get a top spot in the Federation. If she fails, she will spend her life shoveling crap on a hell-planet, and if she succeeds, she may finally make a name for herself.
I thought this book had a really interesting plotline, but it just felt like ... a lot. The book was only 325 pages, and I feel like it would've benefited from some more information being added. They would reference things but give zero on-page information about what that thing was or how it was created. There were missives throughout the story showing more details on certain things, but as it wasn't happening when those things were actually being discussed, it did cause some confusion for me.
I felt like the mystery of who was messing with Imogene was kind of weird. The culprit didn't really make much sense to me - because the big reveal explained everything in, like, one paragraph, instead of spreading the clues throughout the book, and then summarizing it. Literally, no clues were dropped previous to the mask being yanked off, and it was kind of hard to care at that point about it.
If this author continues this series, I would hope they'd offer more details in their future stories. I would be interested in reading more from this world, and as far as recommending it, I would say anyone interested in a lighter, easier to digest sci-fi would like this story.
You know a book was 5/5 stars amazing when your biggest complaint is that it wasn't long enough. I want more!
When I first started reading I felt like I had been dropped almost in the middle of a story because I realized we were starting in year 7 of this academy but I'm glad that is where it started because it makes it feel like we are in a fully thought out, existing world. While I would love to see the characters in those earlier years, this is clearly just the beginning for Imogene and her friends.
I really liked the inclusion of the diegetic "info" pages that kind of reminded me of playing a video game and finding journals or other "in world" literature and was a good way to include the world building and lore without info dumping on the reader. The inclusion of drawings also helped with imagining the non-human characters.
I am normally someone who likes YA/NA enough but would prefer a little more *spice* but something about the slow build, enemies to lovers just hit so right with this one. I was giggling and kicking my feet at the smallest interactions because the chemistry was just THAT good. It is closed door/fade to black for the little bit of romance we get but I was ok with it because it wasn't the main focus and I'm hoping we get more in the next book. I also loved the friend group and "found family" vibe between the main group.
It also had some of my favorite things: forced proximity, a MMC who notices things about the FMC no one else does (we stan a man who pays attention), a touch of mystery and danger, enemies to lovers but she was the only one who thought they were enemies, hiding in a closet ;)
For fans of Fourth Wing, Hunger Games, Divine Rivals, or Divergent this should definitely be your next read.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
An orphan whose parents left a horrible legacy, Imogen Sol is trying to earn a place for herself outside that legacy. A lot is at stake as she moves through the trials. The romance is balanced well and doesn't dominate the story.
I received an arc of this book for my honest review
Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC of The Ring Acadamy: The Trials of Imogen Sol.
I really enjoyed this story, but the crux for me is that the book felt rushed. We see Imogen take part in four trials, as well as her own personal trials, all in a couple of hundred pages.
I felt like when I started to get into the moment with a trial, it would be explained and over in a handful of pages.
Review for: The Ring Academy: The Trials of Imogene Sol
5/5 ⭐️
This sci-fi novel sets forth Imogene’s story which is set at her final year at The Ring Academy. She’s competing for job placement in the Federation but someone or something is threatening her in many ways; challenging her even more than the trials themself. This novel is a roller coaster with lots of high-stakes, high risk adventure, relationships, and romance.
The author brings something amazing that will make you read until finishing the whole story in one sitting. She created an entire new universe in a beautiful and well written way thats explains everything with lots of details. I found this story very entertaining and interesting, it was like merging “The Hungers Games (especially the prequel)” with the comics & movie elements of “Valérian”.
Reading this story guaranteed I’d lose track of time, and immerse myself into the story, living in the trails and being part of the whole thing. Perfect novel to get away from reality and daydream while reading.
Spoiler Warning:
I was rooting for Imogene’s and Kade (Timaeus) since their first interaction. It’s imposible not fall for them and their energy together. The frenemies to lovers vibe in them is next level. Also, the found family Imogene has is a dream. Not everyone gets that lucky when choosing friends for life, making them the family that stays and supports no matter what. Imgogene’s friends are the best, we all need a Vempur and Jenna in our life. I love but hate Tsua so much.
I requested the eARC of this book because of the captivating/stunning cover, and to my surprise, this has been one of the best books I’ve read this year. This story totally deserves recognition. Thanks to the author, Cami aka CL Walters for letting me read this amazing story. I’m ready to see whats coming next.
The Hunger Games x Squid Game meet Sci-Fi in this incredible book by C.L. Walters.
Our FMC is Imogene Sol, an overachiever, perfectionist and a true leader. With a difficult family history following her everywhere so goes, she eventually grows and learns more about her family's secrets.
This book contains stunning graphics to help you understand the world-building and different species in the book. Plus a super cool playlist on the end!
I could relate to Imogene in so many ways. The distrust in people the drive to prove yourself and the habit of keeping people far away. But knock knock, there comes rival Timaeus Kade with his charms and wits that try to break down her walls.
Adventurous trials, friends who feel like family and a mystery to unravel. The Trials of Imogene Sol is a real page-turner that will keep you reading.
I definitely thought this was more YA than not, regardless of the characters’ ages. We’ll get to that.
The Ring Academy is a seven-year program, where cadets train for various future jobs. They’re constantly ranked, and their standings – near the end of their time, at least – help them to be considered for such jobs.
We meet our main character, Imogene Sol, while in one of her last practices before her seventh year finals. Most of the characters – Imogene, her friends, and her competitors – should be in their early twenties, then. But Imogene is consistently oblivious about all things romantic, even when they are super obvious to the listener. The romance angles didn’t bother me, per se, but the repetitiveness of them did. The constant comments (from Imogene, or the author?) about those things are what makes this feel like it’s intended for a younger audience.
Nevertheless, there is also a lot of action! In the first trial, Imogene is sent out in to the nearby wilderness, and has to make her way back to the Academy. This trial is a race, basically, with the cadets’ placements being based on the order of their returns. Other cadets have a tent, a communication device, and enough rations and water for a few days. Imogene doesn’t even have a compass. She has 3 water rations and 1 food ration, and that’s it. Of course, she makes it back – in good time, even – but is very dehydrated and needs to go straight to the infirmary.
The fact that her items were tampered with both surprises and concerns her superiors. Imogene has spent her years at the Academy not trusting her superiors, or most of her fellow cadets, save for three friends. So, even when these adults try to show concern, she doesn’t think they will help her. She is constantly convinced that people are after her because of what her parents did when she was five years old. It’s one of those situations where she has to be twice as good to get half as much credit – or at least, that’s her worldview.
Which also complicates her dealings with a fellow cadet named Kade. She has seen him as a competitor – in her mind, that means enemy – for all their years at the Academy. But Kade keeps trying to help her, and she starts developing feelings for him. The fact that he might really want to help confuses her, as she is used to seeing everyone as an enemy. Of course, a little “forced proximity,” on top of his continuing to help, eventually wears her down.
By the end, she’s completed four trials, testing survival, intellect, cooperation, and leadership abilities. (Anyone else think that cooperation one is what she really needed to work on?) We also learn who was sabotaging her, as we learn more about her friends, enemies, parents, and superiors. There are plenty of revelations right at the end to set up another novel or two, so we’ll have to wait and see if that happens.
Overall, this was a decent YA/SFF romp. There’s definitely a lot of talk about romantic feelings, but nothing gets spicy. The “whodunnit” of the sabotage, and constant pressure of the trials are what really moves the action forward.
Despite the misleading title between Netgalley and Goodreads, we've got the actual title of The Ring Academy: The Trials of Imogene Sol, and while nowhere in here says "Book 1" know that it's the first book in a series! As of December 2025 the author's website says she's currently editing book 2.
This book was... okay! I think it actually would have been much better without the romance, or with the romance toned down some. Imogene's whole LIFE is on the line (sometimes literally) in her last set of exams trying to graduate from this prestigious psuedo-military academy while also bearing the surname of famous traitors who died when she was very young, while trying to maintain her ranking amongst the students so she'll get a good "placement" (read: job offer) after graduation. There's a lot going on, and she's super stressed about the whole thing, so to me, being distracted by the feelings in her heart and her pants (note: there are no open doors here FYI and more just talk about physical feelings for the most part) took away from the actual gravity of these trials and what was going on around them, including but not limited to actual threat of arrest and death. The trials themselves were interesting though, especially trying to see how people were messing with Imogene since there was the mystery of THAT on top of everything!
Other things that didn't work for me: I definitely had to check myself several times that these characters were ~22 years old as they all seemed about 17! Also I did not like the constant correction of "...Kade." "Call me Timeaus." I stopped counting after a dozen times; it was every time she called him by his surname, and then when she eventually did call him by his given name it was around her friends and not with him. There was also a lot that was just not developed at all-- Imogene has this good core friend group that's her found family basically, but we know barely anything about them or how they got to be so close, especially since she's so standoffish and doesn't seem easy to befriend due to how she acts in this entire book. We also have various inconsistencies (various fakey fake sci-fi curse words, but also, "fuck"/"fucking" ?? -- as well as Imogne at one point calling the leader of the academy by his first name to his face and it not mattering despite how into surnames she is).
It was a quick read, but I think part of that was because a lot of things happened, and most of those things lacked depth so it was easy to just skate along (and skim over Imogene's constant attraction to Kade - girl get it together). It wasn't bad, but it probably isn't a series I'll continue with either.

The Ring Academy: The Trials of Imogene Sol is a wonderful sci-fi New Adult book. It follows our fiesty female main character, Imogene, through her 7th year at the Ring Academy. She’s the daughter of known traitors to the Federation and has received hate and disadvantage because of this all of her life. The 7th year contains four trials that determine what the students placements will be in society. It’s imaginative and different, yet contains themes and tropes that everyone in the community knows and loves. The biggest trope is found family along with enemies to lovers. I enjoyed seeing how Imogene grows throughout the novel. There’s a twist I was slightly expecting but there were other twists I wasn’t expecting, making the book that much better. The book starts with a description of the Federation and the different planets involved. Theres a map too, which who isn’t a sucker for a map!? The book contains drawings and detailed descriptions of some of the different citizens of the universe the book is placed in. I loved these inserts. It helped build the world even more for me. My only criticism is that I love a book based in an academy setting and I was kind of sad that the first book took place in the last year at the school. I feel like it was a missed opportunity to make a whole series based on the school and then the placements afterwards. With that being said, I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Book 1 left off on a cliffhanger and I’m dying to know more. I would recommend this book to anyone who loved The Hunger Games, A Deadly Education, and like books. I read this book straight through and couldn’t put it down. It’s amazing. That’s all. Pick it up in August, you won’t regret it.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book for free and give my honest feedback and review.
You'll enjoy it if you like: - sci-fi weaved with romance - hunger games vibes - tournaments/competitions - found family - internal conflict - frenemies
The characters were interesting and diverse, and the dynamics and banter were entertaining. I loved the whole concept of the ring academy, and the trials and rivalries. I liked the overall vibe of mystery too which kept you guessing, but it was definitely more about personal growth of the main character Imogene. As C.L. Walters always does in her books, she paints such an intricate, internal picture of emotion. There was internal conflict as well as physical conflict.
The theme of found family was a particular favourite of mine too. Vempur was probably my favourite character besides the main two, Imogene and Timaeus Kade (I consistently found it funny that she would refuse to call him by his first name.)
I also loved the little drawings and information displayed, almost like files, dotted throughout the book. It helped paint a literal picture of the world. (Wish I'd got the paperback version rather than eBook to see them better really.) Definitely added to the world building.
My only qualm with it: the book didn’t seem long enough. I wanted more. A few sections seemed a little rushed and not as fleshed out as others. The ending in partciular unfortunately seemed to come too quickly in my opinion and didn’t wrap up all the questions. I believe there is a second book coming though, so would love to see some of the story continued in that! Would definitely be excited to read more.
This is a fast-paced YA Dystopian SciFi/Fantasy centered around Imogene Sol, a cadet at The Ring Academy on Serta. She is an orphan of notorious parents who killed hundreds of thousands of people in a bombing against the Federation. Supported by an anonymous benefactor, Imogene is hated by most people because of her name, and she’s had to work twice as hard as everyone to be successful. As she enters the final trials that will dictate not only her first placement out of the academy, but her entire future, obstacles are put in her way to ensure she fails. When she’s framed for an act that could not only see her future career in jeopardy, but imprison her for life, she has to figure out who is out to get her and stop them. Before they stop her. Permanently.
I listened to this book and the narrator did a fantastic job. The story is nothing new, but I enjoyed the various trials that Imogene had to endure. She doesn’t trust easily, but realizes that she has no choice but to trust the one boy she secretly had a crush on and saw as one of her biggest rivals. I can understand why she wasn’t sure who to trust, if anyone, but liked that she gave herself a moment or two where she let her guard down and let herself feel. The book is exciting and keeps you guessing. If you’re looking for a quick and easy YA Fantasy with dark academia vibes, this is a must read.
I received a complimentary audio copy of this book from Kate Rock Book Tours. All opinions are my own.
REVIEW Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for this ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. 👫🏼🌠 I haven't read Sci-fi in forever, and this was a very good book to reintroduce me into the genre. What I loved most was how I was able to understand the events and the creatures in this world. The author provided information and pictures describing the different species and the world, and I really appreciated that. It made reading the book very easy and less confusing. I also liked that the setting was simple to understand in terms of its existence, and the rest of the pilots and the other aliens were not weird, unlike some sci-fi movies. 🌠👫🏼 I liked the storyline and the fmc, Imogen Sol. I liked the final trials theme, and I was able to understand what Imogen has been going through because of her infamous parents. She's a character you can't help but admire and root for. I'm glad she rediscovered herself and let go of her hurtful past. I also like Timaeus Kade, he was the perfect love interest! 👫🏼🌠 I really loved this book, and I wish it's a series because I want more of Imogen, and I still have some unanswered questions
I want to express my gratitude to @KateRockBookTours and the author @CL.walters for the wonderful audiobook and book. This story is a thrilling blend of mystery, fantasy, and sci-fi with a fast-paced narrative that captivated me from start to finish.
I truly admired Imogene’s determination and drive, and the interactions between the characters made the story truly captivating. The author skillfully played with my emotions, making me rethink my feelings towards the characters. The world-building in the story is incredibly imaginative, with vivid depictions of various species, planets, and systems that truly immersed me in the plot. The book also includes stunning drawings and detailed descriptions of the different species.
The narrator of the audiobook did an exceptional job of bringing the characters and the drama to life. Her pacing was perfect, and her voice drew me in, providing an immersive experience for the reader.
If you enjoy books set in an alternate world with elements of mystery and competition, this is a must-read.
I will admit I don’t gravitate to Sci-Fi books, but this was a lot of fun!
Set at the Intergalactic Ring Academy, Imogene Sol is a seventh-year student. But she is also the orphan of infamous parents, parents who were traitors to the Federation. While Imogene is tough, intelligent, and determined she has a big mark against her so she will have to work twice as hard to earn her place.
At the academy, Imogene, and the other “cadets” must go through four trials/challenges to get a good placement with the Federation. But someone is targeting Imogene, trying to get her expelled or worse!
Plenty of action, suspense and the mystery of who is behind all the sabotage keeps things moving along quickly. And of course, you have the hot rival, Timaeus Kade; I must admit this guy knows how to win a girl. This adds a bit of romantic tension and flair.
But what I loved most was Imogene’s friend group: Vempur, Jenna, and Tsua. The found family trope is strong here and it works well within the frame of the plot. The friends are a mix of different alien species with different backgrounds. They have witty dialogue and are honest and supportive. As tough as she may be, they’re exactly what Imogene needs.
Whether you pick this up for the SciFi, the academia vibes, or the friendship, it’s a guaranteed good time.
Thank you @KateRockBookTours and @CL.walters for a spot on tour and a gifted audiobook.

This is one of those reads that you finish the last page and automatically flip to the next, wanting more. It's a very quick read and sits between YA and NA. Recommended for those who are romance readers that also like the concepts of Star Trek, Star Wars, Divergent, and The Hunger Games.
I received this title as an eARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, CL Walters, and Mixed Plate Press for the opportunity to read this treasure!
Thank you @KateRockBookTours for hosting this audiobook tour!
YA reads are not my typical genre, but when I saw a snippet of what this book was about, I jumped at the chance.
Strong female MC put through 4 trials to test her ability to perform, yes please! ✔️ Trial by Chaos ✔️ Trial of Acumen ✔️ Trial of Tenacity ✔️ Trial by Examination
While that alone fills up her plate, strange things start happening to her. With the strength of her found family, she endures and pushes through to get through the trials and figure out what is going on.
🎧 This book was narrated by Jenn Lee. She did a fabulous job keeping me engaged. Brought a great voice to Imo.
Would’ve loved to see this book be a bit longer to provide more detail. I would’ve loved to have seen more of her 7 year program at the academy as opposed to a brief glimpse of the end of it. Would be eager to read more into this world!
This was such a fun and fast-paced story! Imogene is a relatable main character, and her love interest is so wholesome. They go from academic rivals to reluctant allies, and their dynamic and banter was so entertaining. Their romance is one of the main focuses of the story, but the plot is also equally important, and there were so many suspenseful scenes with the trials and other issues that arise for Imogene.
This book just started to scratch the surface of what seems like an in depth universe. Since book 1 takes place at the training academy, we only got glimpses of world building through the different alien species attending the school, but you can feel that there's so much more to explore still within this universe. I'm excited to see where things will go in book 2!
Follow Imogene Sol as she competes against friend and foe through multiple trials that will decide her future. Imogene must juggle both succeeding through the trials, and attempting to win against a mysterious antagonist that schemes to cause her failure. This is not just a fantasy that leaves you at the edge of your seat, it is also an engaging romance.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I would say the best aspect of this book was the cast of characters. I found myself looking forward to seeing Imogene’s interactions with her ensamble of friends. I did find myself wishing there was more backstory, and that the trials went more in-depth. However, I do think the book is a very good length. It was easy to read. I look forward to reading the next book.
If you love books with challenges or trials, this book is for you! Imogene Sol is in her 7th year at The Ring Academy and is on the precipice of what comes next for her future especially with her family's history. Along with the trials, there is a mystery at hand while some suspicious activity occurs around and towards Imogene. I couldn't stop listening to the story, as I needed to know who was behind the mystery and how Imogene was going to fare. The narrator for this story was a great fit and helped me feel as if I was inside the story myself! Thank you to C.L. Walters and Kate Rock Book Tours for a gifted audio copy!
While taking place in a science fiction setting, the other humanoids and technology were not the focus of the book. The book tells part of the story of Imogene Sol. Told from Imogene's viewpoint, the story takes us through her struggles, both emotional and physical. The story has a fast pace and keeps the reader involved. The author does a good job of using first person. The romance of the book hovers over the line for me. There was a little too much talk about tingling and lips, and the final scene was a fade to black, which I feel the ending would have been better without.

I normally do not listen to audiobooks but found this very enjoyable. I really liked the narrator and found her easy to follow. This follows the story of Imogene Sol and the beginning of her Year Seven Trials. Imogene feels like an outsider and like she does not belong among the fellow students. She has everything to lose and must prove herself to get her station within the Federation. Among the drama of the trials a spark forms between her and another competitor. This book felt like I was reading the Divergent Series or the Hunger Games. Highly recommend.
“The Ring Academy” by C.L. Walters is an imaginative and engaging fantasy novel that blends adventure, friendship, and self-discovery. Set in a magical academy, the story follows a group of students who uncover hidden truths while navigating the challenges of their powers and relationships. Walters crafts a vivid world with complex characters, weaving in elements of mystery and intrigue that keep the reader hooked. It’s a captivating read for fans of magical academies and coming-of-age stories, offering both heart and excitement.

I NEED MORE! The Trials of Imogen Sol is so gripping I was hooked from the start. The plot is interesting and the story fast paced.
The only reason I can’t give it a 5 like I’m dying to, is that there are some parts of the world building that feel like they’re missing. Or like I’d missed the first book.
It’s a phenomenal story that got me over my Fourth Wing reading slump and I cannot wait for the next Ring Academy book!
I was so pleasantly surprised by this book! For such a short book, I feel like so much happened and the author did a great job with world building (I loved the UFB informational pages included throughout!) and establishing Imogene's friendships and building her relationship with Kade. The plot was so good and kept me guessing until the end. And the ending! All I can say is wow, this was such a perfect YA sci-fi/romance, and I can't wait for book 2!
Really good introduction to a series that I can’t wait to read more of. A twist I genuinely did not see coming and a world that seems bursting with potential to explore. Some of the characters felt a little flat at times, perhaps a bit stereotype but nothing that detracted from enjoyment of the story. Really well paced and I genuinely did not want to put the book down.
I really loved Imogene’s story. This book is so well written that you are invested right away in the characters. The narrator did an awesome job pouring all the emotion I was feeling into the characters and making the story like a movie in my head. 5 stars from me. Can’t wait for more!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I got hooked on Imogene’s story right from the start! The mix of action, tension, and emotion was spot-on. I really felt her struggle to rise above her past and prove herself, and the trust dynamic with Timaeus added a great twist. Such a powerful, fast-paced sci-fi read that deserves way more attention. Can’t wait to see what comes next!
While there is a thread of romance in this story, it’s more about the main character Imogene and her growth as she works to save herself with the help of her found family.
