Taylor is a vampire—but she doesn’t want to be. Turned against her will by her sadistic mistress, Celeste, she has been living a miserable life of bondage and abuse for the past six years.

Finally, through the help of her best friend Addison, Taylor is rescued but she can’t relax for long. In order to save her from an even worse fate, she is married off to Victor - a very reluctant groom who just happens to be a werewolf.

Victor doesn’t want to be responsible for the fledgling vampire, no matter how beautiful she is. Especially when he finds out he is the only one she can drink from.

But aside from the strange arousal that overtakes him every time she sinks her dainty fangs into his throat, he has other problems to deal with… and a very big secret to hide.

Their marriage of convenience is only supposed to last for three months but Victor and Taylor finds themselves drawn together by more than the vows they took.

But as their attraction grows, so does something else. Inside Taylor, something is changing. She begins to have physical cravings she has never had before, insatiable appetites that only Victor can satisfy.

Will she succumb to the madness growing within her or can Victor save her from the Scarlet Heat?

Scarlet Heat is a plus length erotic novel, over 100,000 words long about vampires, werewolves, and witches. Not to mention sex. Lots and lots of steamy sex. It also contains chapter two of Shadowed, Brides of the Kindred 8 coming soon.

Looking back at my highlights and notes...I only saved three quotes and they were all centered around the awesomeness that is Victor Larson.

descriptiondescription

“I gave him an arch little smile. “You were too busy eating bacon—three packs of it.”
“Three packs?” He stared at me in disbelief. “You let me eat three packs of bacon? Fuck, woman—my cholesterol is going to be through the roof.”

Victor is a shifter?? cursed shifter??a cursed lone-wolf shifter?? *Hush i love him!*

I really didn't care about... Taylor ? *wait a second, what was even the stupid girl's name???*
For a vampire that suppose to have (1) fangs (2) strength (3) general badassness.

The bitch had zero survival skills

She just gave up. Hell, giving up implies that she was even trying to do something with her life in the first place. She was just 2 passive for me and it never got better*shrugs*

But, Victor was amazing and I was so curious about his life and personality that I just kept wanting to read his POV, laugh at his sexy jokes, and be in awe of his badassness

description

“He sounded serious. “Why don’t you simply tell me the name of the person who has hurt you? I’ll kill them at once and you won’t have to further compromise yourself.”

Ekkkkkkk the feels!! I definitely had some fangirl moments. He was just hilarious and I wish he hadn't been paired with a weak heroine like whatshername. He deserved more. Not only did it hold back his character, but it also made him appear more...caveman? Because he literally had to fight for a woman who couldn't even stand up for herself *bitch please*

And when she finally worked up the courage to actually make a decision for once in this goddamn book.... SHE CHOOSES TO JUST YEET OUTTA THERE??

Seriously, da fuck is wrong with this girl? He deserves a sassy, brave, funny, no-nonsense chick and her name is Cece..... I'm just saying.

“Goodbye,” I said and walked out of her house…straight into a trap.”

The writing itself still kept that fun fast pace as the first book, so if that's what you're looking for. But what really stood out was the worldbuilding, it was infinity more interesting and well developed.

Scarlet Heat was another fun sexy story about a were and a vampire. It might've been a personal bias on loving shifters but I loved the chapters in Victor's POV and interacting with other supernatural compared to the whiny new vampire chick. This is just another book I read for the main-squeeze, but honestly... I was extremely disappointed in the main character who is simply too weak to be considered a heroine.

“You’re mine, baby. Mine forever and I’m never letting you go. Never.”

Ever since Crimson Debt, my heart went out to the new vampire, Taylor; she never asked for this life and the first six years was just hell, used and abused. Luckily she has an amazing best friend who risked everything to get her out of her Mistresses “care”. Victor was the man/were that was chosen to protect Taylor; for three months they must abide by the Laws of Ownership of being blood-bonded. But trading one master for another is not something Taylor is too happy about, until she realizes that she is as much of a master of him as he is to her; equal ownership.
“I love feeding you, love helping you. I promise you, I don’t mind.”

“Maybe I mind,” she whispered. “Mind being so dependant… so needy.”

With the care of Victor, Taylor begins to blossom and finally come into her own as a vampire; but there are other changes that they both are not expecting, making it harder for them to be in each others presence. It’s one thing to rely on Victor as her only food source, but to sate her body’s needs with his own is not something she is ready for; now or ever. As a lone wolf, it is an adjustment for Victor to get used to living with someone, let alone a vampire that he is fully responsible for. He proves to be a protective alpha but tenderly keeps her safe even when it is him she is afraid of.
“You know, you may not be able to bake but any man who does laundry is all right in my book.”

“Don’t forget the part where I turn into a big cuddly wolf,” I pointed out, grinning at her. “It’s not every guy who can do that.”

Taylor and Victor are taking it day by day, but when Taylor’s changes are beyond the point of safety, they have to come up with ways to sate the desires that threaten to burn them both alive. Victor hasn’t been entirely truthful to Taylor, there is a reason he is alone and it is not something he is willing for her to find out; scared that she will leave him for good, especially since he wants to keep her forever. Taylor is adjusting to her new life with added confidence and finding pleasures in things she never thought were possible but her fear is never too far from the surface. But they got more problems coming their way its up to them if they fight it alone or bond together...

Scarlet Heat was another deliciously sexy fantasy tale about a were and a vampire, the author truly has a gift in pulling you into her world completely. I loved the way that Victor was with Taylor, he was everything she needed and more. Under his compassion she left her scared timid self behind and embraced her new world. For the most part I loved their story, it would have been a solid 5 star read for me until I got to the point where they let their assumptions get the best of them. It was so frustrating because you knew the truth and instead of talking to each other they went and made some stupid decisions.

Regardless I loved the heat, the slow burn they had for each other. I loved the fact that even though she was dealing with some pretty horrible issues, the author didn’t have her spreading her legs with a snap of his fingers; he had to work for it and prove himself worthy. I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant with starting Taylor story, she was so broken and timid in the first book that I was afraid I would get annoyed with her in her own book, but I'm happy to say those fears were for nothing, she is still the loving character I remember her to be and I enjoyed watching her grow into a sexy confident woman. I can’t wait for the next book in what is becoming one of my favorite paranormal series!

This was a steamy paranormal read. I really liked the characters. my only complaints are that I tired of the lack of communication between the hero and heroine. I just kept wishing they would talk to one another rather than assume things. also, I'm not a fan of how this ended. I would have appreciated an epilogue. I really have no interest to continue this series with Gwendolyns book but I would have liked more closure with this book.

Meh.
The heroine was TSTL in Book 1 and while she did improve, she was still TSTL. Of course, the hero wasn't Einstein either.

Looking forward to the next bk with the witch and the demon. Quite a bit of sequel baiting in this one.

Taylor

description

I am finding that I love the heroes of this series, but have little patience for the heroines. They are stubborn, naive, and make poor decisions. They never think before speaking and make vows, only to go back on their word. I am on to the third book of this series and hope this trend does not continue.

This could have been a 4 star read, but the heroine, Tayor, wept and cried so much that I got annoyed. Then when she grew a backbone and decided to make a stand, it was against her husband's will on a subject she had no background information on. Taylor was a vampire and her husband, Victor, was a werewolf. Yet when asked to come before the werewolf council, she defiantly offered to go against her husband's will. She had no idea what the council was about or how where politics operated. She was willing to stand up to the council but was afraid to talk to her husband and clear up a Huge misunderstanding... ANNOYING!!

Gosh, the women in this book!!

Heroine - Gets temporarily "married" to the hero for 3 months to protect herself from villain #1 and then after a misunderstanding, "divorces" him just after a month without trying to clear anything up - which, surprise! Leaves her unprotected. She also gravely offends villain #2 and without knowing any of their customs and against the hero's advice, agrees to a meeting where she thinks that she'll solve everything by apologizing. Guess what happens!!
The Witch - Does multiple dangerous rituals without thinking of consequences. And her excuse is all...I did it because she asked me to!! You're supposed to be the expert, you dummy!!
Both of the female villains - who ignore everybody and their dog telling them that the hero was DANGEROUS. Both we're like...are you crazy? That's just superstition!! (Yes, a vampire and a werewolf dismissing something as superstition.) Until the hero loses control a la Hulk and CHOMP!! (That was so stupid that it actually made me laugh.)

This book did absolutely nothing for me. NOTHING.

Nothing but infuriate me. Ive never despised a heroine as much as I despise Taylor. Shes unutterably pathetic.

The first half of the book is dedicated to her learning she can still have an orgasm, which is tiring enough, but by the second half she had entered full blown TSTL mode, doing literally - LITERALLY NOTHING RIGHT.

If theres something that can be screwed up, she screws it up. If theres something she can rush headlong into without understanding anything, she rushes. If theres something she can misinterpret and misunderstand she does so in the worst possible way.

I get it, Mrs. Anderson. I really do. You need to heroine to do something really fucking stupid so that she can be rescued or whatever, but honestly a functional retard could show more prudence and foresight than she showed and don't give me that "driven by emotions" garbage. Shes a dimwit.

But I didn't really start to truly hate her - hate her like I hate HITLER - until she stood there and let her man get whipped by a silver whip right in front of her and did nothing about it.

Oh she struggled a bit whoopdie doo. I've been waiting for Mrs. Anderson to let Taylor show us that she is a vampire by ripping some fucking heads off FFS. She spends the entire damn book being passive, scared, and utterly boring. Other than the fact that she has fangs, shes quite simply just a normal woman, and its so tiresome to see her sit there and do NOTHING.

I'm at 70% and shes just been picked up by Celeste without a tiny little bit of struggle and not even an unkind word.

I can't believe I have to remind you of this, but Taylor is supposed to be a vampire. Even nice, meek vampires can rip people's arms off when the situation calls for it. I didn't buy this book so I could read about a were and his human mate with slightly longer incisors than normal.

DNF - 70%. Waited for something to happen that made me feel good about my purchase but it hasn't and I just don't have any more time to waste on this crap.

This book is my first five-star in a while. Why? Because it is fantastic!

This is the best book I've read in a while!

The plot is amazing, the characters are not only bearable but really interesting.

I'm surprised, because this is the SECOND book from a series, and the first one didn't impress me as much as this one.

I think the author should have put this one as the first one, because it's much better than the first book. The first book bored me, this one is exciting. So she should have started with THIS.

Now I can't wait to see how the author will upstage herself with the next one.

This book was an adventure and the chemistry and tension and romance was perfect too.

Five star all the way.

On to the next one!

This was better than the first book, but the plot wasn't great.

I liked Taylor better than brash, bull-headed Addison, but I can't say that she was all that intriguing as a character. I'm glad that she accepted Victor in every form, though.

Victor was sweet, and I liked his wolf. However, I wish there was more of an explanation into why his wolf and his beast were so attracted to Taylor and how their scents mixed. Did they just so happen to be mates...? Though that seems awfully convenient...

The romance was decent. The two definitely had chemistry and fair amounts of emotional development.

I wanted to know more about Victor's "curse" and the whole beast/wolf situation. It was confusing and not well-explained.

I really enjoyed the glimpses of Laish and Gwendolyn. So far, I've preferred Gwendolyn over Taylor and Addison, and Laish appears to be quite charming. This book set up the next one decently.

Overall, the plot was kind of dull. It was pretty obvious there was going to be drama with LeeAnn, the spoiled werewolf princess that was desperately fixated on Victor, and Celeste, Taylor's sadistic maker. Of course LeeAnn would want to punish Taylor and Victor and Celeste would want to gain more power. So, in that sense, the plot was fairly predictable and not very intriguing.

In general, this was a decent read with generic, but likable, characters and a very standard plot.

2.5 stars.

I liked this book slightly more than the first in the series.

What I didn't like: the hero & heroine needed to have one conversation to clear up all the misunderstandings between them. The author dragged out this misunderstanding for practically the second half of the book. I was PISSED by the end because of how dense both of them were being. It was painful to read.

Overall, the hero and heroine in this book are better the two in the first book. I liked the pairing and their storyline overall. I didn't like that the heroine ran off half-cocked with some harebrained idea in her head about doing "the right thing". The story just got stupider and stupider from that point.

Safety is fine; there's a lot of OW drama from some crazy girl who wants the hero. He doesn't want her at all. TW: Heroine was severely raped and brutalized in the past.

Probably my favorite couple in this series. The writing seemed different—a better different—yet remained true to Anderson’s writing style. It took a me a while to get through the book and the use of the r-slur was unnecessary. I enjoyed this book and dare I say that this story was my favorite out of all of them...

Overall: Victor and Taylor are blood bonded to keep Taylor safe from a bad guy. At first they both try to avoid each other, but eventually Victor picks her up from the fang club and they start their journey together. Vamps and Shifters can't stand each other because of the smell and their history, but for Taylor and Victor they actually smell good together. After Taylor goes out of her way to help Victor, they start to form a friendship and than eventually fall in love with each other. After realizing that they loved each other, but not telling each other, Taylor makes a major mistake that sets a battle into the making. In the end the good guys win and Taylor and Victor get an unexpected surprise and a very happy ending.

Pros: I really liked that this story was different from other paranormal stories I've read before. Most of the time I couldn't put the book down because I was so fascinated about what was going to happen next. I also liked that Taylor liked Victor in his wolf form in the beginning more than his human form. All around I just liked that flow of the story and how easy it was to connect with the main characters. I really loved that the bad guys got what was coming to them in the end, especially Celeste. I hope that the next story has Taylor and Victor in it, so we can see what happens with them and their little family.

Cons: I personally didn't have any cons for this story.

Characters: Taylor & Victor

Page Turner: Yes

Series Cont: Yes

Once again, Evangeline wrote a fantastic novel in a short time period. She manages to create characters that readers care and want to know more about. This is only partly why she is one of my absolute favorite authors. This book starts off at the end of her first novel of the series, (but don't worry you don't have to have read the first book in order to fall in love with it although I highly recommend the first book as well!) and it starts with a bang...well maybe a snap....

Anyway, Evangeline used enough of vampire and werewolf lore to keep it authentic (no sparkly vampires here!) but put her own spin on it to create something I have not seen done yet (and I read a lot of books!). If you are checking out reviews wondering if you should read this series....do it. Just do it. You won't regret it.

One of my favorite things about her novels is that the relationships between friends feels authentic. In fact there was one laugh-out-loud moment in the book that made my husband look at me. I won't spoil anything, as I hate it when others do that in their reviews.

I really really loved this book. The action scenes had me on the edge of my seat (well not literally but I had to catch myself because I was skipping lines because I was so excited to find out what happens next!)

Side Note: Evangeline gave me this copy to review knowing that I would give my honest opinion.

Victor could never imagine that he would repay his debt to Vamp Master Alec by wedding another vamp. He never pictured he would be bound to a blood sucker. Taylor was turned unknowingly and treated terribly by her sire. She was nothing more than property to be used and discarded at will. If it wasn't for her best friend, non-glam human, mate to a master vampire, Addison she would still be a slave to her sire. To free her she was given to Victor to care for. They just never expected that she would have to fight for her life regardless of the circumstances. Victor and Taylor made a match that took the time to grow together. He dependence on him made her more than most vamps could dream of. She could be out in sunlight. But there was more to it than that. There was a prophecy at play here and the both best be ware of what was going on around them.

Great book, great story, abrupt ending?!?!
I thought this book was fantastic, i always always enjoy reading Evangeline Anderson books and this new series too. I understand that the trend is to have books in a series go from one to the next and EA keeps our interest by releasing consecutive books pretty fast, but i wanted to see the ending of the book as carried through properly, maybe even a little predictably. It is after all a complete HEA that i read romance for. So I fell in love with the characters, the story build up was great, the connection between Victor and Taylor very well done, but the ending could have been better.

What the check kind of ending was that? Victor and Taylor needed to have at least one more conversation!!!

Taylor is the FMC for this book and the best friend from the previous book in the series. She is a vampire! but a very bad one at that. After a long couple of years under her evil vampire creator, Taylor is finally free. Now however she has been married off to a werewolf Victor, a vamps natural enemy for at minimum three months.

Victor is not happy that he had to pay off his debt to Corbin from the previous book by marrying a vampire! But soon he realizes she isnt all that bad. He thought all vamps were monsters, but she is different. Maybe it is because she is so young, only being a vamp for a couple of years, but she still cares like a human.

As they are now married and bloodbound, Taylor finds out that she can only drink from him. Which is a problem, because she is terrified of men because of what she went through. Slowly they learn to coexist.
There are funny moments all throughout the book, like when he forgets she is a vampire and has to be invited into his house, to when she takes care of him as a hurt wolf, and more, so that I don't spoil anything too much.

When Taylor starts taking on werewolf traits like going into heat, the book starts to get a bit more spicy. At this point Victors attitude is changing towards her and they might even care for each other in some sense of the word.

It isn't until the end though that the real debt has to be paid. The Crimson Debt. Taylor made a choice to cut their connection and Victor made a choice to save her even though he was hurt deeply in the process.
Can they get there happy ending?

A great book, and again the author did not get too into cliche with the werewolf and vampire plot line while still keeping a good storyline. I might be biased since I love Evangeline Anderson books, but you wont regret this read, and the spice is very good!

I’m very conflicted about rating this book.

Most of Evangeline Anderson I love. This book not so much. The story is fun, I like the writing and it has interesting characters. So what’s it about?
First, sadly the interesting characters aren’t the main characters to me, but 2 people who have a minor part in the story.
Also, I didn’t like the lack of character build of the main characters. They kept repeating their actions and their thoughts and doubts didn’t develop either.
But my biggest irritation is the fact that they don’t communicate. Communication is the key to every relationship IMO and the both felt short.

These are the moments I would like to be able to give 1/2 stars, because this is a clear 3.5 star read to me. Unfortunately it is not possible to do so. I’m sorry, Evangeline, 4 stars is overrated so I have to round down.

Impossible to start once you begin! Taylor's story was even better than Addison's was! In the previous book, we first met Taylor, as Addison is her best friend. Taylor's origin story is pretty sad, and by the time Addison has her vampire step in to help her, you come to know the hell she's been living through. It is emotionally heavy, but then we meet Victor, and the story deepens because he has secrets too. As they are casually falling in love with each other, trying to learn to live together, you feel like there are levels to the story yet to unfold. This story is addictive, I could not stop listening to it, as I have the audio version on my Kindle. I don't know why it took me so long to read and/or listen to this gem of a series. There are so many action-filled scenes, and the growing attraction between Taylor and Victor is beautiful to read about too. By the time the bad guys get unveiled, we've met Gwendolyn the Witch again, and omg, I can't get enough of this series!

Victor and Taylor; a beauty and the beast story?

I’ve enjoyed both books in the series, but, as another reader commented, I liked Victor better than Taylor.
Spoiler alert: For anyone sensitive to physical abuse, this may not be the book for you. It could be a difficult read/listen for you. There is a HEA, but there is a long journey for Taylor to move from victim to victor.

Taylor was turned into a vampire against her will, mostly because she was weak and easily swayed. Her mistress, Celeste, took advantage of her weakness and used and abused her for 6 years before she was rescued by her best friend Addison, and her mate Corbin. Unfortunately, Celeste did not want to let her “property” go without a fight.
Corbin a 400 year old vampire found a way to protect Taylor by convincing her to blood-bond to a werewolf named Vincent. Vincent has his share of issues, one being he is a lone wolf with a curse that causes him to transform into a mindless beast.

Great 2nd Instalment of the Series "Born to Darkness.

The skill that this author has is nothing short of amazing! Her extremely vivid imagination has no bounds as she writes across many different series and subjects. This 2nd book has more twists, turns, and revelations as it continues on from the 1st book but shifts its focus to Taylor and Victor instead. There are a slew of new characters, and some from the 1st, too. It's a wild ride, but I promise that it is well worth it! In fact, ALL of Evangeline Andersons' books are! So take a chance and read any of her books, you won't be disappointed. You can read them as stand-alone books, but in this case, it is best to read them in order. HAPPY READING!

Much better than the first one but still ... The characters annoyed me to no end halfway to the book ...

The assuming even when it's made more then clear that there's feelings was very childish and kept me from really enjoying the story.

Like the first book there's a lot of potential but it wasn't developped. I still wanted to give up yet i read until the end because i'm too curious.

Anyway, i'm not sure i'll read the last one even if i'm curiou to know about the witch and demon.

I think i'll give it some time ...

Overall another enjoyable read from Evangeline Anderson. I love the world in which this is set and the conflicts makes sense. I feel like the lack of communication between the two main characters gets quite frustrating at times but what can you do?
This was a nice light read and did a great job setting up my favorite book in the series Ruby shadows which EVERYONE should read!!

I really liked Victor. Taylor was borderline TSTL. I felt like they could have solved so many problems by actually having an honest conversation with one another.

However they had crazy sexual tension, it was great. Victor was nothing but kind over and over again, I just don't get how Taylor couldn't be honest with him about her feelings until the VERY end, ugh.

The audio was great as usual.

Loving this series! It's the turn of the newly-made vamp and the loner werewolf to see if they can sort their issues to find a happy ending!

Good audio and although I enjoy Makenzie Cartwright's narration, her use of a LOUD voice for Gwen is not great.

Recommended for those loving a sexy fantasy story.
