This was the 2nd book in the Immanu'el series, stories about Jesus from the point of view of people who lived with and/or knew Him. This book is John the Baptist's story. Of course, much of the story is of the author's making, but she uses what is known in the Bible and history to create a realistic possibility. I really enjoy this type of book, and the author did a fabulous job making John a real person. I have read the 1st and 2nd books in this series now. I believe there are 2 more, and I look forward to reading them, as well. The 2 I've read I found as freebies on amazon.com, but I liked these well enough that I will buy the other books.
Wow. I read a LOT, devouring multiple (usually free) Kindle books every week. This one really stands out above the rest, and I plan to actually buy the others in the series. I don't know how to review it; following Jesus from childhood days through manhood in such an intimate way, though the eyes of his cousin John, was an emotional experience that filled my heart and mind with wonder and a hunger to know Him more. He and John both become real people as you observe their teasing, jokes, tears, fears, loneliness, and otherwise "humanness." Definitely a recommended read for anyone in love with Jesus (but without a need to tear apart writings about Him for the sake of "accuracy")
