July 4th 2005, Maggie's wedding day was the happiest day of her life, the most painful day of her life and the day she died three times.

Maggie lives as a recluse in the home that she and her dead husband, Jimmy, built together. It's all she has left of him. She has her friends, but has turned her back on the world and any possibility of spending her life with another man.

Five years after Jimmy's tragic death, Maggie's world is once again turned upside down when the last hold she has to her husband, their home, is destroyed. Maggie is thrown into the path of a man, the only man, that can bring her back to life. Elk Bend Chief of Police Michael Rogers is there to help her pick up the pieces and move on.

Rafferty, a close friend, has loved Maggie for years. He has been waiting for her to get over the loss of her husband and knows that in time she will be with him.

Rafferty has inserted himself into Maggie's life so deeply that she doesn't see his obsessive behavior. She doesn't realize that she has been stalked by Rafferty even before the death of her husband, or the danger that Rafferty represents to her. Maggie is his and he will do whatever he has to in order to keep her.

Will Maggie be able to start a new life with Michael? Or will she be so consumed with the fear of losing him that she is paralyzed to move forward with her new life?

Will Rafferty have the power over Maggie to extinguish any feelings she has for Michael? Or will he destroy her trying to wrestle her away from her fate with another man?

This book will make the readers weep uncontrollably when they read about the tragic murder of Maggie's husband, Jimmy, and laugh with the interations of Maggie and her friends. They will take a journey into the life of the characters that will make them escape and feel the wonder of love transcending death.

I’ve been an avid reader for years. To my husband’s dismay, I have bookshelves full of books, rooms full of books, boxes full of books. My cars have books in them. I just can’t seem to get rid of them after I read them. You just never know when you will want to read it again, right?

About two years ago, my husband gave me the dream gift, a Kindle. It was love at first sight and my first foray into the world of ebooks. To say the least, I am a technologically challenged person but when a reader, such as I, is told that you can have the book you want to read in seconds, I’m going to do whatever it takes to learn how to use it as quickly as possible.

While I still have books everywhere, I no longer take ten or twelve books with me when I go on vacation. The only thing I need is my Kindle. It never leaves my purse.

My genre of choice is romance with a paranormal twist. My authors of choice are Diana Palmer, Iris Johansen, Catherine Coulter, Jill Gregory and of course, the queen, Nora Roberts. I am also very partial to Michael Connelly, who is not a romance author but damn that man can write!

In my life prior to becoming an author, I was a Legal Assistant/Office Manager for a wonderful local estate planning attorney (no criminals that I know of). Prior to that, I also worked my way up the ladder in a large corporation, from payroll clerk to supervising nine employees in operational accounting.

When my children, Shandelle and Pilar, were small, I took a few years off to be a full-time mom and help my husband with his accounting work for his auto repair shop.

After, Michael, my husband, sold his business, he changed professions and started working for a national construction company.

Michael and I raised two beautiful, strong women so that’s who I write about. The women in my books are strong individuals that have moments of weakness and frailty to work through.

When first reading the synopsis of this book I was intrigued, the idea of fate pulling two people together, people seemingly impossible to fall for loves tricks, well obviously, that’s right up my alley! I was eager to dive into this one, and not at all disappointed once I started reading.

Wolters did a superb job showing the emotion, the unexplainable connection between Maggie and Michael. The characters feeling the strange sensations they both feared to ever feel, yet not being able to deny its existence, was very well described. You could sense the rush, confusion, fear and hope in the wave of their meeting. And from there, you couldn’t help rooting for love to triumph fear, and to crush Rafferty’s twisted hopes for his relationship with Maggie.

I was so pulled into this story I had to keep turning the pages. Just as I was about to cheer that love would survive, I saw how many pages were left and braced myself for heartache. In one turn after another love was at your fingertips, and then pulled away, then within reach again. It was a thrilling ride Maggie and Michael’s whirlwind relationship took me on. So much so that I finished the book in one day. Yes, neglecting everything I had on the to-do list, I plopped my kids in front of the TV and put a movie on for them – I just had to see how this ended.

I could easily connect with these characters, getting wrapped up in their every emotion came easy, and I can’t even quite say why. Which right there, is a sign of solid writing. They were real characters; flawed, broken, hopeful and scared. Much like we all have been at some point in our life.

The ending held a few surprises in it, and I won’t indulge you with whether it left me heartbroken, or embracing the excitement of a ‘happily ever after’. I will say however that it held within it many sweet moments. Overall this was an excellent read, and well worth the guilt of making my kids watch TV for an entire afternoon. The way Wolters developed the bond between Maggie and Michael, and the challenges they met to fight or accept love was, well…for anyone who has seen The Notebook, that feeling – you’ll find it in this book. If you’re a fan of love, a fan of getting sucked into the story of people meant to be together – yet almost pulled apart by circumstance, you’ll love this book. Wolters masterfully produced one of the best love stories I have read in a very long time.

Please be aware that this review is my opinion. This is not a paid review. This digital book was a gift and does not reflect or influence my review of the book. To form your own opinions please support the author and acquire your own legal copy of the book.

I will admit that the title of this book did not grab my attention. However, that did not stop me from reading and getting mad when I was reading because I had to stop when I was at work. I read a lot at work during either my lunch break or when I have some downtime and bored. I know it is not ethically correct to read while I am suppose to be working but sometimes my day is so easy and boring I will fall asleep just sitting in the chair. I just need something to keep my mind occupied.

This book starts out so sad it almost makes the read want to cry and stop reading but you cannot do that because it has grabbed your attention and will not let go. The first paragraph or two is not sad. It is a happy joyous event, but then it turns out to be very sad.

No I will try and not give any details about this book for that information you will have to read the book sorry I just know that whatever I end up typing it will be a spoiler and I am trying to keep from writing spoilers in my reviews.

I love the strong character Maggie in this book. She has gone through everything that a person should not have to go through and still has come out a stronger person because of everything.

Maggie then loses more of the stuff from her past. It is like how can this keep happening to her and she not just give up. All of us know that when bad things keep happening in our life we finally get to a point that we just give up we refuse to go on any more. That is the best part about reading a book, the author will make the character strong and allows the reader to remember that no matter what is happening to not give up, keep going, stay strong, and just let go of everything. Cry, weep, scream, yell, get angry and throw stuff but never, ever give up.

After Maggie has lost everything that, she thought was her life she found out that there is more to life than the possessions she had. Maggie learns to love again, and finds that she enjoys having that love.

"A Second Chance at Love"
This is another wonderfully written romance by Author Sandy Wolters. In this intense story, Maggie Mae and her husband were only married 12 hours when a tragedy took his life. They had been bonded together since the day they first met two years prior. She could not ever believe in the possibility of loving another man other than her loved Jimmy. She had her friends, a twin brother, but did not socialize, nor did she date. She had friends who would try to introduce her to potential dates, but Maggie had her humorous and extreme ways to make the men run from her. She and Jimmy had together built their own home in the higher elevation of Arizona in Elk Bend. It was her forever home. Her brother tries to remove a tree endangering her small home, but the task is bigger than him -- the tree falls on the cabin, collapsing the dwelling. Marc is really fearful of his sister's rage when she returns home. He calls Chief of Police Michael Rogers to send deputies, lots of them, the fire department, and EMT, because he was so fearful of his sister. Was Marc exaggerating? The Chief thought so when he saw petite, 5 ft. two inch, beautiful Maggie Mae sitting in her vehicle in shock staring at her demolished home. This book is fast paced, and the writing style fantastically allows you to move right along, without stalling. There is much humor, fun, and love in this story. If this were made into a movie, the actress Holly Hunter who starred in "Always" would fit the personality of Maggie Mae. I loved it, and I think you will, too.

This is the second book I have read by Sandy Wolters and it is wonderfully written. She has a true flair in prose.

The general plot is well devised and crafted. Little Maggie May has had a very rough five years. Her husband is murdered on their wedding night when they both decide to take a trip to the local convenience store. For the next five years she locks herself away from life thinking she will never fill the void her beloved Jimmy left in her heart.

She is out of town on business when her brother decides to lend a helping hand in bringing down a tree that is on its last leg. The tree (while coming down) mysteriously and unexplainably diverts from falling harmlessly to the ground and instead crashes onto the house she and Jimmy built. Her brother calls the local Chief of Police fearing for his life. He is convinced that his sister, (all 5' 2" of her) will promptly put an end to his life upon her return.

The catastrophe triggers a host of chain events that will pit the police chief and a long time family friend against each other in hopes of wooing Maggie to the altar.

This is a fast paced novel and you will be finished before you know it!

One other note. Since both of her parents have passed on, I wonder who is going to give the bride away if she makes a choice between her two highly competitive suitors?

Well done Miss Sandy. I will be reading A Brother's Love in the next month or so.

Page Count: 232 pages

Initial Reaction:
Do not judge a book by it's cover. This story was absolutely amazing.

My Thoughts:
This book was provided by the author for an honest review.

After the violent death of her husband, Maggie Mae Carson, has decided to live the life of a virtual recluse. Her world crumbled the day he died and she is only living a half-life in the home that they built together. Her friends try (often) to set her up with someone new but she shuns forming any attachments because her husband was the love of her life. But a powerful force intervenes to drive Maggie out of her self-imposed seclusion. Maggie's life changes the day her twin brother Marc decides to remove a troublesome tree from near her house. Unfortunately, things do not go as Marc plans when the tree lands in the middle of the house...the only remaining tangible thing from her husband. As he should be, Marc is scared of his sister's reaction. Little Maggie Mae has a supreme temper and he knows that THIS will absolutely set her off. In a preemptive strike, he calls his friend and police chief, Michael Rogers, to "protect" him from his sister. Not quite knowing what to expect, Michael goes to Maggie's house with other emergency personnel in tow. When he arrives, Marc is beyond scared which Michael finds a little funny...especially when he finally spies Maggie's tiny frame. But, as the expression goes, "big things come in small packages". Maggie is beyond a force to be reckoned with. She has a temper and isn't afraid to use it. Michael is immediately attracted to the tiny woman trying to kill her twin and Maggie is similarly attracted to the gorgeous man with the soothing voice. Charged energy vibrates between. Amazingly, through Maggie's loss she finds something that she never expected to find again........love.

My immediate reaction after reading this book was, "Wow, that cover sure didn't do this story justice", hence my initial reaction. Maggie Mae was an excellent story. It has a bit of all the things I like in a story -- a sweet romance, humor, paranormal elements, and a unique angle. I read it in one setting because I was drawn into the story very early on. Sadly *smacks my own hand*, I expected to be bored with the story because of the cover but was pleasantly surprised to find a witty and captivating story.

Maggie was so loving and caring for her friends and family. Even after loss after loss, she was still able to comfort her brother, be kind to small children, and care for a lame wolf. Maggie's how-to-rid-a-man antics were absolutely hilarious. Michael was protective and loving to Maggie from the first. He sensed an immediate connection between them and made himself a pillar in her life. The love between them happened fast and burned hot. The story was not overly steamy but you could definitely feel the passion between Michael and Maggie.

The stalker angle was also very interesting. Rafferty was as crazy as a loon but I was happy to see that Maggie fought him with all the anger that was in her. I was hoping to see a bit more closure with that situation but glad that Maggie was still able to stay in his daughter Amanda's life and that his mother finally saw the truth about her son.

The paranormal aspect to the story was unique and well placed. The insertion of the "guardian angel" just fit within the story.

Maggie Mae was romantic and sweet and I would definitely recommend it to a friend and read it again. Read it. Love it.

Maggie Mae Dixon is seen on the beach ready to marry the man she loves. James David Carson is the man who filled the empty spot in her life. But it’s all a dream. Her husband died five years ago.

She’s come to visit with Amanda and says hello to her dad, Rafferty. Rafferty was Jimmy’s best friend and business partner. He also has a secret. He wants to tell Maggie but the time has never been right. Sandy gives us a glimpse of what Raff and Maggie had in the past. She will have you laughing when she tells you the story of Maggie on the slopes and how Raff is there to save the day.

We see Michael Rogers telling his officer, Michelle Dooley, about an incident at the local middle school. It will have you going eww. Sandy’s writing makes the scene very believable and laughable at the same time. Michael then gets an interesting call on his cell phone.

We find that it’s Maggie’s brother, Marc, on the other end and he’s in a panic. You would think the world was coming to an end or World War III was just around the corner. Meanwhile, Maggie is recalling an incident between her and Raff’s mother. Can we say woman from hell?

Michael then gets to meet Maggie and she surprises him. As you read the scene, she will surprise you as well. There seems to be a connection that neither of them can explain. We see her start as a caterpillar and then turn into a butterfly.

Maggie then has to go to her friend Carley’s house. Carley has been trying to set her up for a while now. Maggie gets very creative in getting rid of her blind dates. It’s just one more scene where Sandy has you laughing.

Maggie’s first sexual experience, since her husband passed away, is very hot. And at the end of the scene it’s one more time that Sandy has you laughing. Then she turns around and turns up the heat. But always in the back of your mind you wonder what became of Raff. And then Michael and Raff meet – can we say roosters?

I had never heard of Sandy before. Then I was asked to do a review of this book. I was very happy that I was asked. She has a way of spinning a story that has you falling in love with the main characters. Her female character is a woman who takes no prisoners and laughing at her at the same time. If you haven’t read “Maggie Mae” before you need to read it or at the very least have it on your TBR list.

This is the second book I've read by Sandy Wolters and I was not disappointed. Sandy has a true talent for writing romance and a gift of creating believable characters. There was no denying it, you felt the love, the heartache and the passion in every word Sandy wrote.

Maggie Mae is going through a hard time in her life ever since her husband ,Jimmy, was murdered 5 years ago. Maggie is deep grieving over Jimmy and refuses to let it go and move on. In this state of mind Maggie hasn't seen the advances Rafferty, Jimmy's best friend, has been making on her.

Rafferty has been in love with Maggie for a long time and now he thinks it's his time to have a future with Maggie. Everything seems to be falling into place....Until....

Michael, Elk Bend Chief of Police, is called out to check out a disturbance at Maggie and Jimmy's dream home when he meets Maggie. It was love at first sight or maybe lust at first sight. Question is does he have what it takes to fight for Maggie? Will he allow Raff to walk in and take the love of his life away or will he be haunted by Jimmy's ghost?

If you love true romance with a ghostly paranormal twist ... you will love this book.

I don't normally read romance novels, but I enjoyed this one. It was short and sweet and I didn't mind the paranormal aspects of it. But I kept thinking, Where was the editor? Way too much use of character's names in dialogue. Nobody talks like that, constantly saying the person's name that they're speaking to. Drove me crazy. This story is total fantasy--a typical romance novel, I suppose. It is an OK read if you want to lose yourself in something ridiculous but kind of fun.

Lovely and sweet. Reads almost like a fairy tale, and the otherworldly details are so wrenching. You root for Maggie and Michael, and feel sad for Jimmy.
