Back in Bugtussle, Mississippi, after her relationship with her ex-fiancé has fallen apart, Ace Jones is naturally depressed. What’s worse is that every time she leaves the house, she winds up in some kind of altercation. She can’t help but wonder if she’s an idiot magnet, or if she’s the smart-mouth stirring things up. Hoping for a little peace of mind, Ace gives in to the advice of her best friend and goes to see a therapist. But she quickly discovers that the road to nirvana isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. And as Ace goes from one therapeutic misadventure to another, the plus-sized spitfire becomes more determined than ever to find enlightenment—even if it means bending herself into a pretzel to do it.
Like Elvis, I was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. And while I'm not the King (or Queen) of anything that I know of, I do have a white steed, a noble knight, and a royal court. Ok, I'm lying. I have a brown chiweenie, a buck wild toddler, and if we line our "Cars" cars up just right...
I have lived in the Wild Wild West, but don’t live there anymore because I discovered that some people belong in the south and I am one of those people. Humidity, as it turns out, is not such a bad thing after all. Neither are thunderstorms. Plus I have a deep love and genuine appreciation for normal sweet tea, fresh seafood, SEC football, and large bodies of salty water. So now I live in Florida.
I have a B.A. in English from the University of Mississippi and I'm a life-long fan of the Ole Miss Rebels. I also have an M.A. in Secondary Education from the University of Alabama, which gives me the right yell “Roll Tide!” every now and then. Despite my solid educational background, my work history is what you might call checkered (if you wanted to be nice). It ranges from dispatching at my father’s trucking company to teaching high school Spanish to temping at a technology consulting firm in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Another thing about me: One day, I decided to write a book. It’s called Diary of a Mad Fat Girl and I think it’s pretty funny. Maybe you might think it's funny too!
Holy cow...for you who have been reading Ace's stories, this one starts out with her making a court appearance for a "situation" that occurred at the Walmart. Yes, I know now you want to read it.
This short story was 100% laugh out loud. I could hardly breathe at one point, I was laughing so hard. I can sure sympathize with Ace. And honestly, she has the best one liners around.
If you follow Ace, get this one. If you haven't read these books by Stephanie McAfee - you need to. They are truly laugh out loud, great, fun stories.
I do have a lot of authors I fans of whose books I love, but these books & this author are the most special to me. I have never identified with the character in a book as much as I do Ace.
Awesome! I was laughing out loud during the yoga scene to the point where my kids wanted to know what was so funny! Well done.....really looking forward to the next book!
With this one, Ace isn't her normal self. Usually Ace is so fun loving, but now she is hurting from seeing all her hopes dashed in Florida. I liked that she tried therapy, but like most things that Ace tries it doesn't go well. I did like where Ace was at the end, finally a good place and a way to go forward.
I enjoyed reading all the different adventures of ace Jones. She is your typical confused girl with everyday life issues
I enjoyed reading the books of adventure of ace Jones. she is a typical confused young lady with everyday life issues. Has many friends who care about her well-being
I just love Ace Jones ! If you need some humour and a good chic lit with attitude then you"ll enjoy her too. Can't wait to read the next adventures of Ace Jones !! This was just a novella but a good little break from her last and a good intro into her next.
Oh this one was just funny, went too quick but had some great parts along the way. i mean, being in trouble for something that happened at the Wal-Mart to the yoga class...it'll give you a quick laugh!
Yet another book that made me laugh till I cried. Love this author and love how the story of Ace continues. Definitely recommend this book to anyone who needs a quick read and a really good laugh.
read this out of order (after down and out) so the chronology was off for me.. The therapists are hiliariously (and in some cases unfortunately) spot on.
