Ransom Lake

Rate this book
Gus always knew that his weight would kill him. He had tried all the diets; no fat, low fat, eat all you want. During a particularly down spell he even had a go at the finger-down-your-throat weight loss management program. But it was hopeless. In the end his weight did play a role in his death, but it happened in a way that he never could have imagined.

Ransom Lake explores the bond between two lifelong friends and what one is willing to sacrifice for the salvation of the other.

Quick read with entertaining characters and a satisfying ending. We know from the start that Gus is doomed, but finding out how that happened and how strings were tied up for everyone else was fun. Not a slow page in the whole book.

Flawless...
I was listening to another book on my Kindle, Text-To-Speech, didn't have on my reading glasses and, after charging my Kindle, and it downloading new content, I inadvertently selected the wrong book. Which happened to be "Ransom Lake".

I thought it odd that the Characters had jumped from San Francisco to a Lake ... but what struck me the most was how much the Authors writing had improved, lol. By the time I realized it was a completely different book, I was too engrossed to give it up and return to the other, un-named, book.

I have run across a few such writers whose abilities are this quality. Where words flawlessly fall one into another to create a world that envelopes a reader to the point where all else is forgotten. It's a gift.

It was an OK book. It had some good storylines but there were flashbacks that you didn't realize were flashbacks at first and that made some parts confusing. Cute ending and Lance certainly got what he had coming to him, although the spirit visions are a little silly.

I loved the depth of friendship that was between Gus and Chris. I enjoyed the funny characters in the book; and the good dialog between the characters. Hope you'll enjoy it I sure did!
