About the author

Bhagyalakshmi (Malayalam: ഭാഗ്യലക്ഷ്മി) is a leading dubbing artist of Malayalam film industry. She was the Best Dubbing artist Award winner of Kerala State in the year 1991.

First invited to dub at the age of 11, she started dubbing in the late 1970s and became noticed by the film Kolilakam (dubbed for Sumalatha, the film was jayan's last film). She has been working over 35 years.

this book is an autobiography of a malayalam dubbing artist. she has secured numerous awards for her profession and is one of the few people who came to this field when the existence of such a field was not known to many.

she has had to remove a lot of thorns to make her life and in this auto-biography she goes into each of her experiences in life. her father died when she was 3years old and thereafter she had to grow u in an orphanage. her mother was a cancer patient and died when she was 6years old. there after she grew up under the protection of her mother's elder sister. after this aunty's death she had to undergo torture from her mother's younger sister. thereafter she leaves that house.

her life doesnot stop throwing stones at her even then. her marriage ended up in divorce with 2 kids. she falls in love at middle-age and looses it later. life is a series of ups and downs for this lady. she has emerged from all this and more as a very independent and successful lady. I salute you madam!!!

This is a good inspiring book. some parts may seem being repeated but still the experiences in life of this lady is heart-melting. happy reading!!!

2019 ലെ ആദ്യം വായിച്ച പുസ്തകം. ഒരു ഡബ്ബിങ് ആര്ടിസ്റ്റിന് സിനിമയിൽ കവിഞ്ഞ എന്ത് കഥയായിരിക്കും പറയാൻ ഉണ്ടാവുക എന്നാ ചോദ്യമായിരുന്നു വായനക്ക് മുൻപ്. പക്ഷെ ഇന്ന് അവസാന താളും മറിയുമ്പോൾ മനസ്സിൽ മായാതെ നിന്നിരുന്നത് ബാലമന്ദിരത്തിന് മുന്നിൽ കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് നിന്ന ഒരു കൊച്ചു പെൺകുട്ടിയുടെ മുഖമായിരുന്നു. ജീവിതമത്രയും ഒരു തിരശീലയിൽ എന്നപോലെ പറഞ്ഞെങ്കിലും ആ ഒരു ചിത്രം മാത്രം മനസ്സിൽ മായാതെ നിൽക്കുന്നു... തീർച്ചയായും വായിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ട ഒരു പുസ്തകം...

I really loved each lines she had written, so touching and so close to my heart. She should also be feeling proud to be a mother of two blessed sons who stand besides her, who understands her well as a mother and also as a woman and I think that is the most wanted need for any mother to be strong in her life.

2013 ൽ കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാർഡ് ലഭിച്ച കൃതിയാണ് സ്വരഭേദങ്ങൾ. ഡബ്ബിങ് ആർട്ടിസ്റ്റായ ഭാഗ്യലക്ഷ്മിയുടെ  ആത്മകഥയാണ് ഈ പുസ്തകം.

അഞ്ചു വയസ്സായപ്പോൾ തന്നെ ഭാഗ്യ  ലക്ഷ്മിയെ അമ്മ  ബാലമന്ദിരത്തിൽ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു ഏൽപ്പിക്കുന്നു. സഹോദരങ്ങളായ ഇന്ദിരയും ഉണ്ണിയും ആ ബാല മന്ദിരത്തിൽ തന്നെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ചേച്ചി യായ ഇന്ദിരയെക്കാൾ ഉണ്ണിയേട്ടനോട് ആയിരുന്നു ഭാഗ്യത്തിന് കൂടുതൽ അടുപ്പം.

ഏതാനും വർഷങ്ങൾ കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ  അമ്മയോടും വല്യമ്മയോടൊപ്പം ഭാഗ്യലക്ഷ്മി  മദിരാശിയിൽ താമസം ആരംഭിച്ചു. വല്യമ്മ ഭാഗ്യലക്ഷ്മിയെ സിനിമയിൽ അഭിനയിക്കാൻ ശ്രമം ആരംഭിച്ചപ്പോൾ അമ്മ കുട്ടികളെയും കൂട്ടി വേറെ വാടകവീട്ടിൽ താമസം ആരംഭിച്ചു. കാൻസർ ബാധിച്ച് അമ്മ മരണമടഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ വല്യമ്മ ഭാഗ്യത്തിന്റെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്വം ഏറ്റെടുത്തു. സഹോദരി ഇന്ദിരയുടെ വിവാഹം വല്യമ്മ നടത്തിക്കൊടുത്തു കൂടാതെ ഉണ്ണിയേട്ടന്റെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്വം ഇന്ദിരയെ ഏൽപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.വല്യമ്മ വഴി ഭാഗ്യം സിനിമയിൽ അഭിനയിക്കുകയും, ഡബ്ബിങ് ചെയ്യാനും  ആരംഭിച്ചു. വർക്ക് ഇല്ലാത്ത സമയത്ത് വല്യമ്മയുടെ ശകാരവും ഉപദ്രവവും ഭാഗ്യത്തിന് ഏൽക്കേണ്ടിവന്നു. അമ്മ മരിച്ചതിനു ശേഷം ഉണ്ണിയേട്ടൻ ഒരിക്കൽ ആത്മഹത്യക്കു ശ്രമിച്ചു.പിന്നീട് ഉണ്ണിയേട്ടൻ എങ്ങോട്ടോ നാടുവിട്ടു, പിന്നീട് ഒരിക്കലും ഏട്ടനെ ലക്ഷ്മി കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല.

തിരനോട്ടം എന്ന സിനിമയിലെ ഡബ്ബിംഗ്  ഭാഗ്യലക്ഷ്മിയുടെ കരിയറിൽ വെളിച്ചം കൊണ്ടു വന്നു.  വൈകാതെ വല്യമ്മയും ക്യാൻസർ മൂലം മരണമടഞ്ഞു. പിന്നീട് ഒരു അത്താണിക്ക് വേണ്ടി ഭാഗ്യലക്ഷ്മി വിവാഹം സ്വീകരിച്ചു.  പക്ഷേ പണത്തിന് മുൻതൂക്കം നൽകുന്ന ഒരു വ്യക്തിയായിരുന്നു  അയാൾ.  ഭാഗ്യലക്ഷ്മിയുടെ സമ്പാദ്യം മുഴുവൻ അയാളുടെ പേരിലാണ് നിക്ഷേപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. 15 വർഷത്തെ വിവാഹ ജീവിതം അവസാനിപ്പിച്ച് ലക്ഷ്മി മക്കൾക്ക് വേണ്ടി ജീവിച്ചു ... മക്കൾക്ക് നല്ലൊരു സുഹൃത്താവാൻ  അവർക്ക് സാധിച്ചു.

ജീവിതത്തിലെ വൈകിയ വേളയിൽ ഒരു പ്രണയവും അവരുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ കടന്നു വന്നു... പക്ഷേ അതും ഒരു നഷ്ട സ്വപ്നമായി തന്നെ കടന്നുപോയി. ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകൾ ക്കിടയിൽ കൂടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്ന സുഹൃത്ത്ബന്ധങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ വിവരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. സ്വന്തമായ  ഡ്രൈവിംഗ് നൽകിയ ആത്മവിശ്വാസവും വലുതാണ്.

ഭാഗ്യലക്ഷ്മിയെ ഒരു അഹങ്കാരി എന്ന നിലയിലാണ് സിനിമാ ലോകം കാണുന്നത്. ജീവിതത്തിലെ കയ്പ്പും വേദനയും ഒറ്റപ്പെടലും അനുഭവിച്ച ഒരു സ്ത്രീയുടെ വ്യക്തിത്വം എല്ലാവർക്കും മനസ്സിലായി എന്നുവരില്ല. അവർ നടന്ന വഴിയിലൂടെ സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ മാത്രമേ എന്തുകൊണ്ട് അവർ ഇങ്ങനെ ആയി എന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ സാധിക്കൂ.

വളരെ പച്ചയായ ജീവിതാനുഭവം സമ്മാനിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പുസ്തകം.
വെള്ളിമാട്കുന്നിലെ ബാലമന്ദിരം മുതൽ സിനിമ ഡബ്ബിങ് മേഖല വരെയുള്ള യാത്ര അത്ര ചെറുതല്ല.
കാലപ്രവാഹത്തിൽ ഏതോ കോണിൽ മറഞ്ഞുപോകുമായിരുന്ന ഒരു താരകം, ഡോ ജോർജ്ജ് ഓണക്കൂർ സാർ എഴുതിയത് പോലെ, 'അഗ്നിശുദ്ധി നേടി ജീവിതത്തെ കൈപ്പിടിയിൽ ഒതുക്കി നിറുത്തിയ ഭൂമിപുത്രി' തന്നെയാണ്.

സിനിമ പിന്നണി കഥകൾ വായിക്കാൻ പണ്ടേയുള്ള ഇഷ്ടമാണ് ഇതും വായിക്കാൻ കാരണം. പിന്നണി പ്രവർത്തകരുടെ ഒരുവിധം എല്ലാ ബുക്കുകളും വായിക്കാറുണ്ട്. അക്കൂട്ടത്തിൽ ഒന്നായിട്ടേ ഇതും കരുതിയുള്ളൂ. വലിയ പ്രതീക്ഷ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടാണോ എന്നറിയില്ല, ഇത് അക്ഷരാർത്ഥത്തിൽ ഞെട്ടിച്ചു കളഞ്ഞു. സിനിമയുടെ പിന്നണി കഥകൾ ഒന്നുമില്ലാതെ ഒരു ജീവിതം ഭംഗിയായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. നല്ല ശൈലിയും ഭാഷയും. 2013 ലെ കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാർഡ് ലഭിച്ച പുസ്തകം.

A wonderful book portraying how a woman single-handedly struggled and overcame the many challenges life threw at her. The life-story of the famous dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi is truly inspiring. Through this book, she narrates the many trying times she had to face in life that began from her very childhood when she became an orphan with the death of her mother. She started dubbing at a young age as a means of income to satisfy her aunt with whom she stayed after her mother's death. Later she began to enjoy dubbing and began to take it seriously. She also discusses her failed marriage which she had endured for fifteen years and how she finally had enough and left the house with her two children. Kudos to her for openly sharing the many aspects of her life including the romance she had after separating from her husband.

Through this book she also enlightens readers about the may aspects of dubbing and the many problems and challenges faced by dubbing artists. It was really interesting to read about the art of dubbing, which is often taken for granted, in spite of being an integral and important part of film-making.

This book makes for a great read. The simple language and eloquent narrative makes the reading very enjoyable. Highly recommended !!
