I do hope there's a follow up to this book! I was hooked from page one!

Flightless is a great read for those of us who love the YA world but are actual adults. Pen is rough, sexy, and makes you feel like you're falling in love all over again!

Without spoilers - I will say that, the storyline is different than a lot of the angel genre books I've read, while still staying within the angel realm. The action was nonstop, and the characters were so well developed, I feel like I can call them to chat.

You won't want to put this book down - highly recommend!!!!

My Wings were ripped from their roots by unforgiving hands. I was left to bleed to death among the living I had sworn to protect so many eons ago.

Former guardian Penael Kelly is now a fallen angel who is about to be given an opportunity to earn back his wings. He must befriend and protect Jade Bellows.

Jade has lived with horrible nightmares about a night so long ago when she was witness to a most horrible event. An event that she can't remember but she still has the nightmares regardless.

Jade is drawn to Pen from the moment her starts at her school. And at first it annoys her. She doesn't fantasize about guys, but when it comes to Pen she can't help it. Pen is worried that his feelings for Jade will get in the way of his ability to protect her, but once Jade learns the truth about that long ago event, will Pen's love be enough? And will he be able to protect her when the past rears it's head?

Flightless was a really quick read, broken down into three parts and told from both Pen and Jades point of view. Full of action and excitement, with a good dose of romance thrown in and you have one really awesome read!!

One of the things that I love witnessing when I read a book is the growth of the characters and Flightless did not disappoint in that regards. Jade especially went from being quite a closed off, snarky and distant person to one who was able to allow herself to experience the closeness of relationships.

I loved the way that Jade reacted and handled things once she found out what was going on. Quite often we see our protagonist accept the existence of the supernatural way too easily. Jade wasn't like that. Despite her feelings towards Pen she handled things the exact way you would expect her to under the circumstances.

These feelings terrified me. Never had I felt this close to a charge. It was as if she was living inside of me, pulling at my organs, begging me to save her from drowning in the darkness.

I adored Pen's caring and protective nature. My heart ached for the burden that he carried on his shoulders for past events and I especially loved his relationship with Agnes. And he feels so deeply, which was what I loved about him the most.

The writing of Keri Neal flowed really smoothly, was really easy to read and incredibly engaging. I'm looking forward to reading whatever she writes next!!

Wow! I have to first say I loved the characters in this book! We have Pen a red haired "Guardian Angel" who causes his own fall from grace. An angel who .... oops I can't say, but suffice it to say it is one heck of a surprising thing he does. Naughty, naughty angel! Just my type of angel!

Then we have Jade, what a complete mess this girl is at the beginning of the book. And my how she grows during the book. I do so love characters which grow.

Do you love Angels? Do you love drama? Do you love suspense? Then this is the book for you!

One thing you did get to see in this book was Point of View changes. This works for some people, not for others. So I thought I'd give you the heads up on this aspect of the book. It does work in the story and doesn't detract from it at all. It in fact gives you a little bit of a different aspect to what happens which gives you the bigger picture which really was interesting.

I can also say that I liked that the young girl, Jade grew into the teenager who blocks memories. That was an interesting aspect to the story and actually helped create an entire aspect that we didn't expect.

Kerri Neal provided me with a copy of this book for my honest review. I must say that this free copy held no bearing on my final review. I gave this book 4.5 stars.

Thank you Kerri for my chance to read and review your work.

I received this from Goodreads last week and I finally found time to read and review. This book won't even disappoint you.
Penael "Pen" Kelly is a fallen Angel. He used to be a Guardian Angel but one terrible night he falls, losing his wings on the way to Earth. When an opportunity comes that allows him to possibly get them back, Pen tries and goes for it. The only catch protecting Jade. Jade Bellows is not your average teen, she has nightmares of something she doesn't even remember and people coming after her who she doesn't even know. One day when she meets the new student, Pen, something changes. When something from both Pen and Jade's past come back to haunt them, Pen must find a way to protect Jade without complicating their relationship.
This book was amazing! It was a quick read, flowing smoothly. I was hooked from the first page I read. I never read a book about a fallen Guardian Angel before...let's just say it was flippin' awesome, really different but in a good way. It was really enjoyable. I loved the plot, just when I thought one outcome that might happen the author throws a wrench and switches it up on you. This is the first boom that I've read from Keri Neal, but it sure as heck won't be the last. I absolutely can't wait for the next book to come out.

Won this as a first read and devoured it. I've always been fascinated with guardian angels and this book really captivates angel lovers. It was great to see the story from not only Jade's point of view but also Pen's and know how in tune he is with his charge. . Other than that it was perfect and I hope to read more about Jade and Pen in the future!

So, I love red heads :) LOL I am usually not a big angel fan, but this is a fallen angel, a guardian to be exact, and it’s got a very twisted take on angels. What if the only way to save your Charge (the person you are guarding) is to kill their enemy. Would you do it at the consequence of giving up everything including your wings? Hmmm, so, the first couple of sentences had me hooked. It tells you exactly how Pen lost his wings, and how he’s living life now, as a human. Until he gets the chance to redeem his wings. Oh man, this was a good one.

I really like Pen. He’s jaded, as he used to be an angel, and now is a human. However, when he finally realizes that in order to protect himself and his best friend, he must return to guarding the one person who lost him his wings. He’s sweet, and he tries to make things right, but it’s pretty hard. He’s also got a serious problem with Jade.

Jade is a brat. *sigh* At first, I felt horrible when I learned how Jade and Pen relate to each other, and felt horrible. Then I met her, and lawd, she needs a really good whooping hahahaha. Yeah I wanted to say bad words there. But then she grew, excellently, and I now can say I love her as a character. She is probably the best written character here, because she has the most growth in the book. You literally see it jumping off the page.

Jade and Pen’s relationship is complicated. I can’t get into it too much because that would just spoil everything for you. I was not disappointed. And this book is told in three different parts. The first part, you meet Pen, then the second, you get to know Jade. Lastly, the POV shifts between the two. This made the book the most interesting. You learn the “beginning” from Pen, as why he did what he did, what he’s gone through as a consequence, and how he’s brought back to Jade. The middle is Jade’s POV where you see her change so much. I swear I thought I was going to hate her, but then she changed my mind. :)

The writing is done so well, that you forget that you are reading different character POVs, and that it’s supposed to be simple. It’s grabs you, as these characters are just trying to survive. There’s some good mystery too, because not only is Pen’s “wings” on the line, but so is Jade’s life, and Pen’s BFF’s soul is there for the taking now too. I think if you like angels, you’ll love this one, but you’ll like it even if you don’t. It’s interesting, it’s fast paced, and it’s a good story. 4.5 FLIGHTLESS YET SOARING PAWS!!!

A cute, quick and fun read. I picked this book up as a GoodReads First Read win. To be honest, I probably wouldn't have picked this up based on the front and back cover. It is clearly a paranormal teen romance, but it was unexpectedly dark and quirky. Penael "Pen" is a Fallen Angel, having lost his wings and his role as a Guardian Angel after brutally murdering a young boy despite the fact that Pen was simply protecting his 6 year old charge from her own foster brother. Having been thrown to Earth for a broken meaningless existence, Pen isn't what you would call "angelic." He's sullen, moody, and terribly conflicted when it comes to how he feels for the charge he becomes reunited with 10 years later, but he's no "angelic" Edward Cullen: "I needed a shower. And a cigarette. And a shot of tequila." Pen is paired with a fellow Fallen Angel named, Agnes, a smart bombshell stripper who always seems to save the day. Together they try to help the hormonally-raging teenager, Jade, stay alive and out of the darker celestial hands who want to see her dead.

Flightless is written in 3 Books. The first part is written from Pen's perspective, the second from his former (and later reinstated) charge, Jade, and the last a chapter-by-chapter mix of the two narrations. Despite it being 3 "Books," the story as a whole is an afternoon read. There's a typical high school romance, the tensions between wanting a paranormal hot guy and wanting to be normal, but the quick pacing and spunky yet blunt narration kick it up a notch. There might not be sex smeared on every page, but the desire is there, and the "hard-ons" in plain sight. Readership of mature 16+ in my books. Not a life-changing read, but it's hot and sassy. I already know a few people who I'm recommending this book to!

The story itself is good but I feel the writing needs work. It is kind if like I am reading a fanfic. There was so much detail left out that could have been included to extend the story. They were just suddenly together without it actually happening. They just were and I felt I had accidentally skipped several chapters. All the different types of beings needed to be explained in detail to help better understand the story itself.

However, again, the story itself is good. Enough that it kept me reading and I want to read the second installment. Which I am going to do now.

I loved it. Something that I like about Keri's writing is that she gets right to the point. She's not overly wordy and I appreciate that. Her books aren't too long but just long enough to get the story told. Her characters are relate-able and interesting, and it's hard not to fall in love with them.
