From the author of Happy Accidents and Diamond Star Halo, a short story about illicit love set against a stunning Devon coastline.
Devon, 1903 The boy was sinking fast, the sea sucking at his thin, white ankles. There was comfort in the fact that only he was to blame. Of course he’d had to go beyond the rock walls of the tidal pool, into the feral open sea, because he wanted to report back to Mother and Cecelia, to tell them what a man he was, what a brave Mother who had spoiled him so, Ceci who batted him away with her thick hands. Still, Albert was drowning.
