"You think you got what it takes to open this book? I don't think you do. Because if you did, you wouldn't be reading this. You would have opened the book like a champion."

Though, I'm giving the volume 3 stars, it's actually really good. For the most part, you laugh out loud, you smile, you giggle, you go awww, with the occasional jackass, jerk, what?!?! moments. It's strange to go from reading novels to comics, so initially it took a bit for me to find that flow of reading but once you do it becomes far more enjoyable. What I liked most was: reoccurring themes, reoccurring characters or reoccurring moments ie the guy the name character buys the "goods" from. The "goods" being dvds that Greg is too ashamed to admit he likes or watches, really dvds/tapes that he purchases from a black market dealer who he knows won't judge him. But I loved the Gilmore Girls so I think Greg should just get over it, but his paranoia is kind of cute and he is paranoid. I love the way too cute way too in love couple, but that's because it's exactly how my boyfriend and I act, more or less. And you have to love Xavier because you just do. She's a bit of all us, the most honest and too honest character that doesn't exist though we all know her sooooo how can she not be real? I think my favorite strips, from a narration, are the strips that go into each other, the short story and the short short story. The other strips are a definite for the whole but when you go to reading about Greg's loneliness and distaste for love because he doesn't have it to go to something unrelated it doesn't flow as well. I like the order but if the layout were different ie single strip on single page, back to back strips that mirror one another or flow into eachother. I don't know maybe there's a more sufficient way or better way to layout but I think if that were tweaked a bit it'd flow better. It's good writing with great mirrored illustration. The two elements the way its written and drawn work well together, there's a balance. My only eh....is the main character Greg. You love him and can't stand him at the same. His paranoia is adorable and his loathing towards lovers is funny with a tinge of sadness but his lapses of "depression" can be annoying. You go from laughing to saying yeaaaa yeaaa I get it life sucks:get over it. When there's enough in between is when it works but when you go from one sad story/moment to another to another, it doesn't work. Greg needs to learn to laugh at himself a bit more though if he did maybe we wouldn't laugh so much. Who knows? Needless to say though it was a good short entertaining read and I'd definitely check out Volume 2.
