I did not expect myself to like this compilation of short stories by Shah Johar. Minimal anticipation was being placed when I first opened the still-new book, mainly because it was originally published in 2013. The logic is, older masterpiece from an author is usually crappy if compared with the latest one published, as I believe the style of writing evolves in proportion with the time spent writing ample amount of manuscripts, influence from other exceptional inspiring authors and other forms of internal or external factors.
RUSM1M changed the negative perception into more to the positive side, abundant of congratulations given to the editor! That is a subtle way of keeping the readers glued to the book (oh, I did!), indeed a smart move to set down a brain-stimulating short story as the first read.
Duit Raya could be done better, honestly. Such good story line, I'm hoping the author will consider re-writing the said short story, but this time, in Malay language. The impact will be immense, if, and if only Shah Johar is able to convey the emotions involved well in the short story. If only..
Will read more books written by Shah Johar, and I hope I will be entertained as I did with this compilation.
