About a week ago or so a friend had messaged me to mention that a friend of hers had a book out and she was currently reading it and wondered if, when she was done would I be interested in giving it a shot and reading it as well. That whole blurb up there had me extremely interested so I agreed. And that's a huge deal. It always makes me nervous before I even start a review book. I mean what if I don't like it? What do I say? #CueAnxietyAttack. Okay, it's not quite that bad but you get my point. But luckily some of those books, like this one, will never have to have those questions answered.

It switches back and forth between Kendall and Mason's POV (third person) but, ohhhh but there's also a few little glimpses from the stalkers POV. It totally added to the creep factor and just made things that more fun to read. He seriously creeped me out!

Mason is your typical tough guy that comes from a completely broken and dysfunctional family, and in growing up in that sort of dysfunction he's afraid of becoming one of his parents. His mother in this case. And I don't know what it is but I love reading these types of guys. The ones who have this girl in their life, sometimes it's a friend or a friend's sister or I don't know it doesn't matter, the point is they would love to be with them. But never feel like they'd be good enough for them or are so afraid of messing up like they've seen happen their whole lives that they're afraid to give themselves the chance to realize that in reality...they're a perfect match. I just love it!

Kendall was frustrating in the beginning. And honestly it's not because I didn't like her. It's because she was so real. There are women out there who have things going on in their lives that they're afraid to talk to someone about it or ask for help. Kendall was one of those girls. It was a bit of stubborn independence but I also think she didn't want to be sort of an inconvenience to someone in asking for help? I don't know maybe that wasn't the intention but it's how it felt. I mean she was getting harassed by some creepy *beep*, and yeah sure it was mild little things at first, but stalking is stalking. It can only escalate. I just wanted to grab her by the shoulders and shake her a little bit and say "Your brother is a freaking detective CALL HIM" ahhh. But hey it adds to the intensity of the story and it made it more real. And look it had me yelling haha

It is such a fast and easy read. I mean when I had time to actually sit here and get into it. I messaged Taylor at one point yesterday just to let her know that "hey I'm still reading and don't worry because I'm loving and my only frustration with this book, is not having solid blocks of time so far to find out what happens next!" But those times when I did, I swear it would feel like maybe 15 minutes had passed but in all reality it was closer to an hour and I'd read about 20% more. You just really get sucked into the story.

The ending? *Sigh* Mason had me swooning. Okay he had me swooning more than once in this book. He is very yummy. But honestly the end was the best, love, love, loved it. The last chapter (not the epilogue) had me grinning like an idiot and so happy I was screaming "Thank you Mason!!!" on the inside I swear.

Thanks to both Taylor and Tara for the joint effort in getting me this book because it was a pleasure to read it. :)

Heat flash by Taylor Ann

Great story .....

Kendall 's world turns up side down when she's grabbed in a alley after leaving her friends restaurant, from there her world changes, could it be for the good? In comes Mason hired to protect Kendall, unknown to Kendall her life is being threatened. The FBI gets involved, who Mason works for. Mason's super sexy bad ass who's an old family friend, well more like a brother but also Kendall's crush, she can't stop thinking about him all their years apart but does Mason feel the same? This story is very hot, sweet and romantic all in one. The writer captures both Mason's and Ken's (Kendall's) as Mason always called her feelings for each other perfectly. The ups and downs in this story keeps you wanting more. I rated this story 4.5 stars.

I am not a frequenter of Romance novels, but I'm glad I tried this book out. This is a debut novel by Taylor Anne, and it was wonderful! I loved that Mason and Kendall had a history together already. They had a fire between them that was undeniable. But this book wasn't just about heat and passion. There was a good storyline that got pretty intense at times. I loved the alternating points of view - Kendall, Mason & the stalker. I also loved the little touches of life in Louisiana. Great Read!

This was pretty good. The baddie was pretty obvious and the story was predictable. But it was fast paced and kept me engaged all the way through. This was an easy read.

He was the King of mixed signals in this book. She had a few TSTL moments.

“Hey,” he muttered wearily.
“Well, if it isn’t Mason Black, back in New Orleans just in time to save my ass.” She glared at him.
“Nice to see you too.”

“Nothing personal. It never is with you, is it? I would—”
“Ken, don’t go there.”
“I would say it was good seeing you after all these years, but I would be lying. I’m thankful you came to my rescue tonight. Like you said though, it was your job.” She held his gaze. “I hope you have a speedy recovery.”
He stirred uncomfortably, still restrained by the IV hose. “Dammit, Ken. You don’t have to leave. Stay.”
She felt his eyes on her back as she walked to the door. “Goodbye Mason,” she said without turning around.

“I don’t think that was a good idea.” What had she been thinking? She wasn’t thinking, that was the problem.
“Why not?” His voice was rough. He expelled a ragged breath. His eyes scanned the room before landing on hers. “I thought it was going pretty damn good.”
“Because,” she faltered. Fury gripped her. “Because I’m not one of your women you can use only to toss aside when it’s convenient for you.”
He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. His sandpaper voice was barely above a whisper. “Ken, I would never use you or hurt you.”
She pulled away from his touch. Pain flashed in his eyes. “Too late,” she choked out the words. “You did a damn fine job of that once already.”
“Aw, hell.”
You rejected me. You betrayed me.” She looked him straight in the eye. “It hurt. And I can’t forget about it.” He had ripped her heart out four years ago. The entire family, including Mason, had gotten together to celebrate her father’s early retirement from the FBI. Kendall had a little too much to drink that night and she practically threw herself at Mason. He encouraged her advances and led her on almost to the point of them leaving the party to go to her room. Then he did one of the worst things a man can do to a woman. He blatantly rejected her. She was devastated by his rejection, but more so when he left the party, flaunting another woman in Kendall’s face. She vowed that night never to let him have even a scrap of her heart again. Nothing he could say now would make her pain go away.
“Ken.” He took her face in his hands and gently turned her toward him. “Look at me. That night…. it was nothing….”
“Nothing personal.” She retorted. “I know. That’s what you whispered in my ear when you left the party with your playmate.” She jerked her head out of his grasp. “Get the hell out of my house.”

“Ken.” That one word was like honey on his lips.
“Mason, is something wrong?” She suddenly sounded wide-awake.
“Kendall,” he slurred. “It’s a quarter after one. I told myself I wouldn’t call. But...”
When he didn’t continue, Kendall gently broke the silence. “But what, Mason?” Somehow, he sensed that she knew what was coming next. It could’ve been the way her voice turned sultry and seductive. Or, the sigh that escaped her lips and drifted through the phone.
“I said I wouldn’t call, but, I... I need you. Now.” There, he said it. He admitted his weakness. He needed someone. No. He needed Kendall.

Note: Straight from the Lady Antebellum song?

I walked in and saw him on top of you. I swear, when he touched you, I lost it.” He shook his head. She could reach out and touch the pain and anguish on his face. “You know the rest.” He rubbed her arms, but his efforts to soothe her were rubbing her the wrong way.
“So, all those things you said this morning... about us…”
“All bullsh$#. This crap had me in such turmoil, I couldn’t think straight. But when I saw you in here with that creep, I realized I have to have you in my life. ” He tweaked her nose and grinned.
Did he think that made everything okay?

Liked her brother Bobby -

Bobby drained his cup, set it down on the wooden table, and glared at Mason. “All I’m going to say is, don’t hurt my sister. Again.”
“I don’t know all the details of what happened between the two of you years ago, but I do know Kendall cares for you. Always has. You were such a huge part of our family growing up, but at some point, she began looking at you as more than a surrogate brother. But you know how she is. She’s not going to push herself where she doesn’t feel wanted, or needed. So don’t play with her emotions any more. If you walk away from her again, you better stay away.”

Bobby glared at him. Best friend or not, Mason knew whatever was coming next, Bobby meant. “Stop screwing with my sister’s head, man. If you care about her half as much as you said this morning, you need to drop those damn insecurities. Don’t hurt her. Understand?”
Mason sighed and rubbed his hand across his face. “Yeah, got it.”

Heat Flash is a suspenseful story with lots of steamy heat about the one that got away. Kendall is the little sister that tagged along behind her brother Bobby and his best friend Mason. The trio go their separate ways but not before Kendall and Mason find that there is more to their relationship than brotherly/sisterly love. Years pass and the trio are reunited when Kendall finds herself in a dangerous situation.

The chemistry between Kendall and Mason was awesome. They were two passionate people that loved each other, tried to keep everything platonic, but there was just too mush electricity between them. Even when they were having a misunderstanding the characters still demonstrated care and concern for each other. Mason's insecurities caused him to be a horse's behind at times but Kendall kept her head and didn't lash out at him. She was brave enough to take a chance on their love more than once and that kept the romance aspect of the plot moving. Kendall's character was frustrating at times and had me shouting at the book. As the little sister I'm totally familiar with really wanting my big brothers to help but also wanting to be independent. I wanted Kendall to think before she put herself in danger or call in the calvary when she was in danger. I was so afraid she would wait until it was too late. The plot completely drew me in and I was guessing up to the end. I enjoyed every character and the fact that I was never bored or tempted to skim pages. I had to read every word to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Kendall's sister Mandy was a great addition to the characters, and I can't wait to get the next book to hopefully (fingers crossed) read about her happy ending. My eternal gratitude goes out to the author for setting up another book without leaving a cliffhanger. It makes me want to read her books even more.

This is one of the best romantic suspense novels I've read. The plot has excellent timing and events that are easy to follow and yet not easy to predict. The characters seem like the people down the street or that you grew up knowing and loving. Heat flash is the best of all the things that make up life.

Kendall and Mason have a past together, his mother abandoned him as a child so he grew up with her family, becoming best friends with her brother Bobby. Mason has commitment issues and never sticks with one woman for long, Kendall has a real thing for him but knows she's no chance especially since he's rejected her once already four years ago. The book starts with Mason saving her life, her boss who's been filtering money from the company is gunning for Kendall, literally. Once this is sorted things go back to normal or do they, Kendall starts to receive strange calls and presents! As things start to hot up, the race is on to catch the stalker before real harm comes to Kendall meanwhile just how long can her and Mason fight the powerful attraction between them.

I wanted to like this book more than I actually did the write up sounded good and I was looking forward to reading it, I enjoyed the characters and their interactions were mainly good what I didn't like was firstly that it was made obvious very early on who it was, infact no other suspects were put forward so there was never any doubt and Mason is FBI and then there's Dectective Marks and her brother and between them they don't seem to be able to follow up a simple lead to discover exactly who is Tom's nephew, also Kendall is a independent and intelligent woman and I had high hopes that we would be getting a strong female lead but as if often the case at times she acts like a complete idiot and I don't just mean reguarding Mason and while I'm on the subject of Mason I found the on, off, on, no off, I'm backing way yet again, no I'm not, ok yes I am a bit repetitive and annoying. I did like Mason a brooding alpha male with a past what's not to like Kendall was ok and showed potential at times but then at times she just annoyed me. It's a free read which is entertaining enough but again could have been so much more, the story as such is very weak but if you approach this as a light romantic read you'll be ok, I think that was my main problem I was expecting too much.

I read this book in a day, and I really LOVED it. I was reading another book, started to glance through this and ended up reading it first. It starts quick and keeps on reading that way until the end. I loved Kendall. She had her own life and identity that added to her relationship with Mason as it developed. I found her refreshing and interesting. This a quick, fast, compelling read, and not because it was simple in storyline, but because the writing was so crisp, and clean that I had to force myself to put it down. I kept clicking the next page of my kindle just to see what happened next. The stalking/violence was a perfect balance against Mason and Kindall's building relationship, which I completely bought. It was all very believable. It looked like there will be a future novel about the friend Layla. I so hope so. I will read anything that Taylor Anne puts out! Highly recommend this!

great read for a first time author!

Mason and Kendall have history, but a bit more history than you are led to believe. when Kendall's life is threatened by unknown sources, Mason['s FBI persona comes to the fore. with a baddy that puts his point across, and his identity held til nearly the end, all hell breaks lose!

a good solid plot with great interaction, the story between Mason and Kendall finishes. BUT there is a story to be told of Kendall's older sister and the detective involved, so maybe a second book??

This was so unbelievably unbelievable. I expected so much more seeing how the lead characters actually have a history. She wants him;she keeps getting her "heart broken" by him. He doesn't want to want her but he wants her...Throughout the entire book! And why, if she's getting hurt by him does she continue to kiss and sleep with him, I'll never understand. oh except at the end when she finally grows a backbone. So many contradictions in this story, it was ridiculous. And I've not even mentioned the stalker.... even though I figured out who it was with the first harrassing incident.

So yeah, if you pick this one up to read, enjoy it. ...cause I didn't.

I enjoyed the story line, but I did find myself putting the book down constantly. I guess the story took to long to develop for me and the ending felt a little rushed.

When I start hoping the couple in the book won't kiss and its a romance book I know its time for me to give it up. Its not a bad book but I don't connect with the characters.
