Blood for Wolves

Rate this book
As a wolf biologist, Caroline McKenna hates those old fairytales where the wolf is always the bad guy.

Except when she tries to keep a lost little girl from drowning in a pond, she ends up in the Kingdom of Red—where wolves are the bad guys.

And the girl she tried to save? Nowhere to be found.

Now, Caroline has no idea how to get home, and the Kingdom—once ruled by Little Red Riding Hood herself—is in trouble. Her only guide is a man named Wolf, whose golden eyes and oh-my-what-big-teeth-you-have are as startling as they are enticing. Caroline isn’t willing to leave without knowing the young girl is safe, but that means sticking with Wolf. Especially since her only other option is to wander around a fairytale forest alone.

But that means facing dangerous creatures and evil enchantments. There is more happening in the Kingdom than anyone realizes, and if Caroline wants to stay alive she has to figure out her role in this story—and she knows Wolf isn’t telling her everything.

I enjoy chocolate, soundtracks, and long, awesome hikes through the mountains. I have a Masters in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University, and when I'm not planning world domination or general mayhem I work at a bookstore.

This is a fun retelling of a classic fairy tale. It reminds me of The 10th Kingdom which ran on TV a few years back. I liked it a lot and will look for more.

This is like a Fairy tale for Adults, using familiar characterisations. It had every aspect of good & evil, right & wrong. A parallel-universe where our heroine might fight the forces, fall in love, make heart breaking decisions & watch over a future leader. Honestly I was going to give a two star rating because I did keep reading it, but the last part of the story seemed to increase in pace, excitement & unexpected plot twists so I believe generously increased the rating. The unlikely romance took me a little getting used to but it became more plausible towards the end of the story.

Definitely reminded me of the movie The 10th Kingdom and I really LOVED that movie. The book was extremely enjoyable with likable main characters and of course no fable is enough without it's wicked counterparts. Good vs evil of course and twists and turns in the plot.

I did not see this ending happening. I almost always figure out plot twists before they happened , but not with this one, and I was surprised to see how it ends up. Some parts you wonder if Wolf would ever stop being so innocent like. Will Caroline ever stop getting herself into bad situations. I must say this was enjoyable. 3.5 stars in my mind.

3.5 stars ;0) Surprisingly, it was written like a fable story would. I didn't expect that even knowing this was a retelling. Either way, it was a great adult adventure that had lots of fairy tale aspects to it that we all read about as kids.

Not going to rate because I completely and utterly lost interest in this story. Something about it didn't flow well to me. A lot of randomness. Premise was interesting but execution...left something to be desired. Heroine was annoying too.

Nicely written adult fairy tale with compelling characters, just the right amount of darkness and a satisfying ending. Just what the weekend needed!

I really enjoyed this book and will be trying more books by this author. This was a story that pulled me in and kept twists coming. Did not see certain things that happened coming. Highly wonderful!

While I am enjoying this.. It is a near rip off of The 10 Kingdom. Wow. Now we are veering on plagiarism.

wow.. wow. Almost word for word.. some of the paragraphs. Jesus fucking shit.

The cover art and the fact that the protagonist was a wolf expert is what drew me in to this. It's definitely not your typical fantasy. Those looking for a truly strong female protagonist will not be disappointed. Caroline is strong, resourceful, intelligent, quick thinking--not your typical tramp-stamp badass or girly clone of a male action hero. The world is not quite as fanciful as the FABLES graphic novel series that the story reminded me of, but this story would fit right in.

This was a fun mixing of fairy tales and romance. It could have used some editing - the middle felt a bit long. Overall I really enjoyed this read. It was a good blend of action and romance, and Caroline and Wolf were great together.

FYI- Not for younger audiences. If it had a movie rating it would be R for graphic sexual content.

This book was a fun read. A great twist on classic fairy tale.
