CFS Unravelled - One man's search for the Cause of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and the Discovery Essential for You To Recover

Rate this book
Dan Neuffer, a former physicist, asked himself how he could recover from an "incurable illness" after all these years, when everyone says the cause is unknown? How can he recover when he has already tried everything his doctor and alternative health practitioners have recommended, including treatments that supposedly cured others?

But, the following year, against all the odds, he recovers from CFS/FMS. He finally gets relief - he gets his life back! He is confident that his recovery, is a genuine end to his suffering, not just because of his terrific new level of health, but because he stays recovered, even under harsh physical and mental stress - he is finally back in control.

What matters to all sufferers of this illness is not only HOW he did it, but WHY it worked!

In his research, he discovered a single underlying dysfunction that disrupts virtually every biological system in sufferers. He describes why finding clarity and treating this dysfunction is critical for your health to return to normal.

Walk alongside Dan Neuffer, as he follows the trail of clues with his uncompromising sense of logic. Discover the compelling conclusion of his research that ties together the different theories for the cause of Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), CFIDS and also Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) and Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity.

This book uses 85% of its pages explaining basic physical/biochemical functions that are affected in CFS. Then it addresses diet and supplements really superficially before it delivers the "solution" to CFS. Which is never explained more than vaguely theoretically. "resetting your nervous system". I don't see how this book has gotten such good reviews, it didn't teach me anything or offer any techniques or insight into the solution it promotes. It feels more like a promotion book for Dan Neuffers online program combines with a basic lecture in physiology.

This is a book for a specific audience: people who have chronic fatigue syndrome (or related conditions Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), fibromyalgia, long Covid, etc.) and people who care about them. It is the only book I know of that explains the condition and presents hope for recovery. (These conditions are labeled incurable!) The book alone will not produce recovery, but it helps you understand the condition and provides hope that recovery is possible.

Disappointing--Not much new here and nothing that will help me

This had so many positive reviews that I'm surprised it was so disappointing for me. If you're deciding whether or not to buy the book, let me save you some time by summarizing his suggestions. 1. Find a doctor or naturopath who is experienced with fibro/CFS and his theory about the cause. (Good luck with that. If I could find that, I wouldn't need his book). 2. Figure out what triggers your sympathetic nervous system and hire a therapist to help fix them. Also meditate at least an hour a day. 3. Clean up your diet by eating mostly vegetables and giving up coffee and sugar. 4. Exercise. He advocates graded exercise which recent research has debunked. Oh, and 5. Fix your sleep, with all the usual generic sleep hygiene advice that we have all tried. There is a chapter on supplements that some people might find helpful but every paragraph tells you to let your mythical naturopath decide what you need. He ends with a plug for his brain retraining service and some "success" case studies of people who sound like they didn't actually have fibro or CFS. Sorry for all the negativity. I try to be a "glass half full" person but I had hoped to get at least something from this book. He can keep the money I paid for the book but I'd like my time back. ;-)

Gave me hope

My mom has CFS and watching her health crumble after she had COVID made me desperate to find answers. She got the diagnosis from a doctor for ME/CFS, so we started looking for answers, which led us here. I’m glad someone is giving this largely neglected group of patients some much needed attention.

It’s funny because for so much as we push these people to the fringes of society, they speak very deeply to the larger issues with our culture, namely surrounding a work hard mentality. I guess if you pretend these people are just being difficult or lazy, it makes you look good and successful. But these people who are struggling speak the truth and are the way of a healthier future forward. I know I personally have some habits I’ve formed over the years and maybe it’s time I consider changing so I don’t go through the same problem my mom did.

This theory makes so much sense and verifies experiences I have had dealing with Cfs /Fibro. Magnesium definitely helps and lowering various types of stress helps. This guy gets it and its not peddling snake oil.

A useful (dare I say hopeful?) framework for approaching treatment of #MECFS. Underlying mechanism (autonomic nervous system dysfunction) is debatable, but I say pull all the levers. Disappointingly thin on ANS regulation. The worry is the threat!

Wonderful book with a lot of information. While there is a lot that he says you need doctors for, which I don't do, he did give a lot of ways that you can make changes yourself. So glad I read this book!
