I'm a 22 year old, at University going for French Education. I have wanted to be a teacher for about as long as I have loved writing. I write poetry as well as novels. For me it is more about the story and the characters and making them come to life rather than making a profit. However, I am not just a writer I am also a reader. Fantasy is by far my favorite and I will read anything I can get my hands on. To escape reality and travel to some far off place just by sitting down with a good book means more to me than anything in the world. I have always loved writing and I hope everyone will enjoy my book. It is an emotional journey and I'm so glad to be able to share this with everyone, 15% of my profits will go to charity. Thanks so much for your support.

Al d'Rien definitely pulled me in as soon as Alana came into the scene. She is a noble kick-butt awesome gal! I just had to keep reading. And if it wasn't for my hope to see her make it through, I'm not sure I would have been able to finish this book to be honest. It took a very dark, unsuspected turn in the two ways that I cant stand!

those things are:
1) characters being tortured (especially if its a woman)or raped continually throughout.

2) the good/hero character getting manipulated into becoming evil or doing wrong. A noble warrior turned into a vengeful murderer.

The plot is way more complicated than the back description of the book, but about half way through, Alana is captured by the Evil King, (Who is very Evil and sick!) who is taking over the land with his forces and destroying the peaceful villages one by one. Once Alana is taken, she is tortured and raped over and over again, then manipulated into becoming very haunted and darkened herself. Abandoned by the man she first loved, Luke, (The Idiot!) she is left to figure out how to make it through to save her mom and help the rebel forces fight back. I was gritting my teeth through this story.

The writing was excellent! and was very easy to read. I couldn't put it down and in the end was not disappointed. The only thing I wished was there at the end: I was hoping to see some reconciliation between Alana and Brooklyn. Because he truly seemed like a good guy who really cared for her and could see the gentle/caring side of Alana. Hopefully that side of her will come back in the next books and the Evil King didn't take all of her good side away.

I can't wait to see where this series is going!

I had to take some time after finishing this book to write a review because I did not want it to come off in anyway as not liking the book or discouraging. I liked this book, I really did. I told Miss Beste when she gave me the book that I was not a huge fan of the fantasy genre (although I still have a weakness for Tamora Pierce!), but I will still read it on occasion. Something to consider is to state the time period as clearly as possible in the beginning of the book. I was a bit confused as to when the story was taking place. I would also watch out for the amount of times Alana is knocked/ falls unconscious. It seemed to happen a lot in the story and became redundant.

Overall though, I liked the book. The characters were interesting, although I would have liked to hear more about Rebecca. It’s a major accomplishment to publish a book, and I congratulate Miss Beste. I can’t wait to read the next installment in the series.

***UPDATE***

The author has informed me that the book is taking place on Earth, but rather a made up land. This clears that up for me. I also removed the bit about the editing due to the fact the copy I received was one that contained errors before being re-printed with the errors corrected.

Awesome book!!!! What I can say is it took me quite some time to get into this story.... but once I did it was extremely hard to put down. I was torn between Luke and Brooklyn. First of all..... Luke is the main male character for me.... but it was hard for me to truly understand him 100% of the time. I felt he was not loyal enough to Alana.... but then seeing as how the "kings" abuse and tormenting could cause even the most loyal character to "betray" those that they love.... meaning Luke and Alana and then Alana and Brooklyn...... the betrayal is so thick you can cut it with a knife and the King is a monster!!!!...... but WHEN IS THE 2ND BOOK COMING OUT? Please tell me that it is coming out like next month..... please, please, please. Loved It!!!!
