Museum curator Sydney Worth has a crush on a man in a 300 year old painting. Everything about the man in the painting appeals to her feminine side and she can't help but daydream about him a little. What she doesn't expect is for the spitting image of the man to appear in the flesh. She's so caught off guard that she literally falls on the poor man and well, her embarrassment doesn't end there I'm afraid but you'll have to read the book to find out more.

The Hot Scot is the first book in a new series by Kate Eden and I honestly enjoyed it! It's a great book for people who are looking for a lighter paranormal romance. Not that I don't love a good, dark paranormal romance but it's fun to read a book like The Hot Scot once in a while. There's a lot of humor going on in this book, the snarky kind which was vastly appealing. I love snarky characters and Kate Eden delivered!

Logan Murdoch isn't your typical brooding vampire. Sure he's got problems, he's over 300 years old, of course he's going to have them. However he doesn't walk around like it's the end of the world, he seems to actually enjoy his existence as a vampire. I enjoyed his relationship with his family and later, his growing relationship with Sydney.

Sydney may seem a bit gun shy about relationships but she has good reason. Nothing makes a woman more hesitant than a bad relationship experience. I admired her for being an independent woman though, especially since at one time in my life I had wanted to be a museum curator. She's funny, sweet in a tough kind of way and smart. She brought out the best in Logan, even as she frustrated him with her stubbornness.

Logan's mother Kira was such a strong presence in the story. She's a meddler but never so much as to be annoying. She loves her family and only wants them to be happy. She also rules with an iron fist. As dangerous as Logan is, he's still no match for his own mother.

The pace of The Hot Scot is brisk, but easy to understand and again, fun to read. So if you're looking for a light paranormal romance filled with humor and romance then pick up The Hot Scot by Kate Eden. I know I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is an original review from http://bookedandloaded.com I personally purchased this title.

The Hot Scot by Kate Eden is a lighthearted and fun paranormal romance. This new series – The Murdoch Vampires – started off with great clarity. The world rules were not complicated and Eden did a nice job introducing us into the setting. The chemistry between Sydney and Logan bright enough to light the pages.

It was nice to know the reasoning behind Sydney’s reluctance to be wooed and resistance to various situations. May times I want to roll my eyes at the “no, I am too scared to be in a relationship”, but when there is good reason behind it and I can relate it is an entirely different ballgame. I felt Sydney’s pain and history for her actions over and over again and I respected the character for her actions. This was an entertaining and fun read that any fan of paranormal romance would enjoy!

I normally don’t use other authors as examples or compare one another, but if you like the feel of Lyndsay Sands or Katie MacAlister I think you will really enjoy this book!

Book Club Talk: We all loved it and thought many of the situations and characters were memorable, sweet, and entertaining!

Wonderful vampire romance in the style of Lynsay Sands - that is, more humor and nice vampires rather than dark, brooding and action packed. These vampires drink blood from bags and take supplements so they can go out in the sun and fit in with humans, but still have the traits we all know and love about vampires, super strength, mind reading power, immortality, etc. I liked the way Sydney becomes involved with Logan, by encountering him in his search for his missing painting at the museum where she's the curator. His meddling mother, Kira, was fun too. The "villain" of the story, Raven, wasn't all that villainous, which is good, since it seems she's in the next book in the series as Logan's brother Callum's love interest. I'm looking forward to reading Rebel Child to see how their story turns out.

I have decided that this year when I'm reading a book that I don't like or that I hate, I'm not going to force myself to finish it. This is the first casualty of my new reading rule. I hate this book. It's a poorly executed excuse for a romance novel. The story was very two-dimensional, not a whole lot of depth to it. With characters as shallow as this, it's no wonder the dialogue was lacking in personality. This whole book was just boring and uninteresting. I give this book half of a star.

May contain vague spoilers.

Blurb:
Logan Murdoch is a bit of a reclusive, egg-head vampire. He spends most of his time working to create a synthetic food source and supplements for his race. His meddling mother sent him on a mission to retrieve a three century old painting of his father from the museum. The task is easier said than done, when Logan has to enlist the help of a very attractive curator to prove the painting belongs to his family. His mind control doesn't work on her, so he has to allow her to actually do her job in order to reclaim the painting. Unfortunately, that means she'll be in his home on a daily basis!

Sydney falls off of a ladder and into the arms of a man the spitting image of the man in the painting he's claiming was stolen from his family. While the resemblance is enough to make her believe his claims, her job is on thin ice, and she knows she must find proof before handing it over. When the painting is stolen from the museum by an extremist vampire in protest of Landon's work, Logan has to work to keep his true self secret. But Sydney is no dummy, and she's certain Logan is hiding something from her.

Quote:
"The girl is perfect for you. And from what I've seen, she is also intelligent and open-minded"
"Open-minded? I'm a vampire. No mortal is that open-minded."

Review:
Being an avid para-rom reader, I am quite critical. So, when I say this book was just okay, it's because I have impossibly high standards.

Syd is described by the author as stubborn and intelligent. Her character does display those traits, but little else. There isn't much in the story that makes her stand out from other heroines. Her back story of an emotionally wounded soul with trust issues due to a bad relationship with her ex and her parents is a bit cliche. Her guarded behavior makes her tumble into bed with Logan seem odd - especially because it is supposedly brought about by Syd putting herself in danger, and Logan's anger over it. That particular scene of danger was tepid at best.

Logan is a bit more developed as a character, even though he is also on the trite side. His emotional baggage from being shunned by a mortal lover over 200 years before still seems pretty heavy after all that time.

The peripheral characters are easily differentiated from each other, and were more amusing than Syd and Logan. However, the antagonist, Raven, seems like the Splenda version of evil. There's no real danger to the heroine, (obviously because Raven is the heroine in the upcoming sequel) and she just seems more ditzy than scary.

The story is very vanilla. It ambles along using obvious plot devices, offering no surprises, and is occasionally broken up by one or two unremarkable love scenes. There's not much to make it stand out. Even the humor seems bland.

I found myself forced to finish the book, and it's highly unlikely I'll read further into the series.

Sydney has the hots for a man in a painting dubbed The Hot Scot, imagine her surprise (and delight) when he walks into her museum, then imagine her anger when he wants to take the painting away. She agrees to work with him to confirm his ownership of the painting, little knowing that she's actually putting herself in the middle of vampire politics. They try to deny their feelings for one another for their own reason - Sydney has bad relationship history and Logan is a vampire with bad relationship history. Is Sydney willing to give up her life as she knows it for a chance with Logan?

First things first, as much as liked this book, the story and the characters - the editing mistakes were numerous throughout and I find that drags me away from the story. There's nothing worse than being in a story and having a spelling mistake or double word or wrong word wrench you out mid sentence.

That being said, I know it has nothing to do with the book and doesn't affect my GR rating. I just feel it has to be mentioned as I know a lot of other readers are like me and the little errors niggle at you.

Logan's mother is, by far, my favourite character - I definitely like her more than Sydney and Logan combined, that's saying something when I can also say that I loved them both. Sydney does let her boss walk all over her (which I hate) but she's still a good leading lady.

The story is well written and has just the right amount of action in it to keep interesting but not take away from the real reason for this books - the romance and potential smexy times between Sydney and Logan.

Thankfully, Eden doesn't write her Scottish characters as stereotypical Scots (there's reason I don't touch all those Highlander romance/paranormal books), I was willing to give this a try since Jaye Wells is one of my favourite authors. I'm glad I didn't let my prejudice get in the way.

Recommended if you're a Jaye Wells fan, also if you like your books to be light, funny and quick to read.

Curator Sydney Worth has an embarrassing crush on the handsome kilted man in her favorite historical painting. The portrait is more then two hundred years old, so the last thing she expects is for him to walk into her museum.

Logan, the eldest son of the Murdoch vampire clan, can't understand why this stubborn mortal woman isn't falling for his mind control. Left with no other choice, he agrees to work with Sydney to prove his family's claim to the painting. Now he just has to figure out how to keep the very attractive curator from finding out that he and his entire family are immortal.

Can a vampire who hates complications and a curator with trust issues learn the fine art of love?

This is a book that has been on my TBR pile for entirely too long, like literally, too long. See I did a book tour for this book back, umm let's just call it awhile ago, and I promised that when I got a chance to read the book I would be happy to do a review. So yeah, life and stuff happened and I just never got around to reading the book. I feel bad about that, because it was a decent read and here I have been sitting on it for umm... yeah, awhile, like I said.

As you can tell from the series, it's about vampires. But this is much more a romantic comedy than a dark drama. There are definitely some funny moments that had me cracking a smile; between Logan's momma and Sydney's assistant, they provided quite a bit of comic relief. The relationship between Logan and Sydney blooms pretty quickly, but I think it managed to walk the line between insta-lust and having the having the characters fall in love over a lingering period of time. The pacing worked for me and I just enjoyed the book. Sometimes that's all you are really looking for.

There is a sequel out and it sounds quite interesting, but there was no cliffhanger in this book leaving me feel the story is incomplete. This was a good read and I gave it 3 stars.

Thanks to the author for the opportunity, no matter how late (sorry!) to read and review the book.

A fun, fluffy read. Great humor & snarky dialogue. Plenty of heat in all the expected places. I'm not usually one for Romance-type novels (unless their either funny or have vampires--this has BOTH), but it's written under a pseudonym by one of my favorite Urban Fantasy authors, Jaye Wells. I can tell she self-published this as there were far too many typos & glitches that would never have gotten past the editing department of an established publishing house. I understand that there were problems with the copy editor she hired & that an upgrade will be coming to correct the errors. Don't let that keep you from reading this as it's a great read & you'll eventually get a cleaned up version with the upgrade.

This is the first book about the Murdoch clan, vampires now living in the United States rather than their ancestral home in Scotland. It introduces us to Logan Murdoch, aka The Hot Scot, & museum curator Sydney Worth. Syd is desperately trying to keep her job by keeping a painting of Logan (assumed to be a portrait of an ancestor) at the museum. It goes missing, sending Logan & Syd on hijinks in pursuit of the painting while Logan tries to keep Syd from learning of his immortal nature.

Review can also be found on my blog.

I am not the biggest paranormal romance fan, I much prefer urban fantasy. I love this author’s urban fantasy books that she writes under another name so I figured I would give this series a shot. And boy did I remember why I rarely read paranormal romance. This book is not horrible, I’ve definitely read way worse in this genre, but I have read better as well. It’s got quite a bit of cheesy moments, I felt the plot could have been developed better, some of the dialogue felt like the characters all had one voice in places instead of their own.

The thing I enjoyed the most was Sydney. I felt that she was just as well-developed and written as the character’s in Eden’s urban fantasy books. Sydney is snarky, she knows what she wants, she is caring, but doesn’t let people walk all over her, and like all people she has baggage but she doesn’t let it make her brooding and mopey.

I will likely give the second book in the series a read, I didn’t hate this one. I just feel that it has good bones and could have been better developed.

This book was a nice read. I enjoyed the plot and characters. The reason I only gave it 4 stars was because there were several grammatical errors in the writing. I would be reading and get to an error that was so bad that it would pull me out of the book. I'd spend time trying to figure out what the author was trying to say and it would ruin that part of the book. I think a little extra editing or a fresh set of eyes would have been helpful to the author before publishing.

If you are a vampire lover, this book is a great addition to your romance collection!

Loved this. A delightful, witty, pacey, paranormal romance with a truly engaging heroine and hero, fab secondary characters (love Kira!), many deft touches of humour, some hawt action (with The Hot Scot, of course *g*), and a wonderful HEA. Fans of Lyndsay Sands' Argeneau vamps will love it. Can't wait to read #2 Rebel Child The Murdoch Vampires 2.

This book was cute and entertaining! Lots of sarcastic and silly things happening. I'm a huge fan of this author so naturally I had to try this although as I get older it's not quite my genre anymore. But it fit the bill for the younger generation. I didn't like the relationship drama at the end, seemed immature especially on Sydney's part but again that's just a part of young adult stuff. All in all, some great ideas and a cute story and likable characters

Light, fun and a little silly. I enjoyed this throughly. The characters are easy to connect with and lovable. One star off for the overly cheesy parts and quick ending. We knew it would end that way but it took a page...maybe a page and a half. Still a great book and I would recommend it for those looking for a not so serious paranormal romance.

Hot Sexy Scot!

Sydney Worth is a museum curator. Logan Murdoch is a scientist, & oh yeah, a vampire. When the two meet fireworks happen. However, they continually fight their attraction to each other. Throw in a few extremely likable characters, some uproariously funny situations, & a red hot romance & you have a very entertaining love story.

Full of cliches

The first ten pages were great, some of the best starts to a novel that I've read. Unfortunately, it was downhill from there. With a heavy borrowing from the tv series True Blood, some clunky writing, and some desperately needed proofreading, this book was such a disappointment.😤
