Looking at Luca, who’s just saved my life, I can’t respond. No explanation I might offer will satisfy after all of the extraordinary things he’s just witnessed. —Ankh

AnCaela Murphy's body is a ticking bomb that only her mom can defuse. The problem: her mother is missing and presumed taken by the Skinless, bogeymen from Ankh’s home world who have been hunting her and her mother for two years--ever since they fled that world and certain death.

With help from Luca, a boy whose touch confuses and who refuses to back down, Ankh races against time to find her mother before the bomb inside of her detonates, taking her life. Tracking the Skinless across the country, the pair search for her mother and uncover the horrifying truth behind the generations-old war.

L. M. Davis loves great storytelling. She needs nothing more than a good book and a comfy chair to be happy. She was born in the south, raised in the north, and has a few degrees under her belt. She still hasn’t gotten her black cat, but she thinks about it everyday. Her thoughts go something like this: "I really should get a cat." For now, she contents herself with spoiling the pets of her friends and family. Posers is the second book in the Shifters Novel series.

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is a strange book but only because I am not sure what the creatures we are dealing with are. I only know that they can appear as humans when they want to. Is all very mysterious and hopefully in Part II we will learn more information bout what is going on. This was a quick read filled with action and adventure and left me wanting more. I did enjoy the switching between POV's of Luca and Ankh. It showed a uniqueness of each character. I loved knowing their feelings about one another. I'm excited to carry along on their journey and also to learn more about each of them.
I would recommend this book to sci- fi readers.

A novel in three parts–hmm, I wonder why an author would do this–maybe to generate suspense? I don’t know. No matter the reason, this is a new and different format that I’ve never seen before and I like when authors are creative and try out new things.

This was my experience with a novel in three parts: Part I had an interesting story and, I’m ashamed to say, I judged a book by its cover (loved the cover!) so I downloaded it. I was totally engrossed in it, finished it and then wanted to know what happened. As soon as I clicked on the last page, I downloaded Part II–excellent! The action was non-stop. I clicked on the last page and looked for more. But no!!! Part III is not due out until until August 30th!!! I so badly wanted to know what happened in the last third that I unabashedly contacted the author and asked for an advance reader copy so I could review it!!!

The premise is great–Ankh and her mother are fugitives from another planet, dreading the day when the creatures who hunt them, find them and come for them. Ankh’s mother believes the hunters are closing in so she goes to Atlanta to reason with them and disappears. The creatures discover Ankh all alone in her house and the chase is on. But, she’s not alone. Luca, who has loved her since he first met her, saves her. He’s on the run with Ankh, as they skip across the US, trying to find Ankh’s mom, while avoiding the horrifying hunters.

So far, Skinless is terrific. In reviewing books I’ve found out something about myself–I have a fear that the author won’t deliver, that the plot will fall apart, the ending won’t make sense. I have that fear for Skinless. Will L.M.Davis be able to deliver? There are a couple of inklings that are intensifying my fear. The trip to Atlanta and then to Chicago are similar, without further developing the plot–has the author run out of ideas? I’ll be finding out soon and this is some serious suspense, waiting and thinking about the last third of the book. The expectancy is definitely growing with the wait, which wouldn’t have happened if I had devoured the book in one day. Maybe that was L.M.Davis’s intent all along!

Overall: I’m being driven over the edge waiting for Part III!

I received a free copy of this book for my honest review.

This was a story that was very easy to get drawn into. We meet AnCaela Murphy as she sits in class and we immediately know that she isn't from around here. This shape shifting alien and her mother are hiding from killers from their home world. Her mother, believing they can be reasoned with, disappears in the attempt. AnCaela, along with her friend Luca, are in a race against time to find her mother and save them both.

This novel is the first part in the three part series. Its a very quick read, I finished it in a few hours and I immediately started on the second part. The story is intriguing from the very begining as we learn about the nature of these beings and the mystery about what has happened and who is after them. I enjoyed the characters, even though Luca's friends are definitely typical high school students with typical drama. I didn't really understand how they are able to travel so much without any money, but maybe that will be explained along the way somewhere.

Overall, I enjoyed this short first part of this novel and look forward to the rest of the story. Would love to see all three parts together as one book, but the installments are really good so far. The characters were original and I love the alien aspect of it. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good YA science fiction.

I just love novellas, especially when they are as well written as Skinless is. It is the perfect blend of so many things and keeps up the appropriate pace the whole way through. You get the feel of an entire novel, in a quarter of the pages. (Which is one of the main reasons why I enjoy reading novellas! They make great before-bed reads.) I'm impressed with the author's ability to introduce and build her characters in such a short time. Readers are able to bond with Ankh and Luca from the very beginning. In fact, I can't wait to see if their current relationship blossoms into something more. He did save her from imminent peril, after all. The science fiction aspects of this story are original and intriguing. I really liked the idea behind the Kind and their hunters, the Skinless. I'm sure the author has plenty in store for her characters. This is the first part to a three part novella, and I can't wait to read the rest! If you're a reader who enjoys YA sci-fi definitely pick up this novella series. It will keep you turning pages!

So I do like to read YA. However, I don’t typically read SciFi. I have to say that L.M. Davis just may have won me over! I absolutely LOVED Skinless part 1 and part 2. I seriously couldn’t put them down. I couldn’t help but feel like I wanted to just jump in the story and help Ankh and Luca. L.M. Davis has a way of weaving a story that snatches you up from the first page and never lets you go. When I got to the end of part 2, I felt like screaming LOL. Especially since part 3 doesn’t come out until August. That is on my must-buy, must-read list.

Incapable of putting the book down, I must know what is to come of Ankh and Luca. The story is full of action and a building romance. There are questions and yet I don't have the answers yet. Yet being the key word, I cannot wait to pick up the next part in this amazing Novel in III Parts. Skinless will leave you wanting more and determined to pick up the next book as you reach the end of Part I. The suspense is killing me!

I really enjoyed Skinless part 1. I would have enjoyed it more as a complete book, but in saying this I enjoyed the writing style of L. M. Davis. I look forward to reading more of her books.
