A fun-filled comic tale, told in a hand drawn and hand painted comic strip format style, about the wonderful creatures fish and bugs who reside in Domino Park. This fun story told in graphic novel style highlights the coming of spring to Domino Park. As the snow recedes and the flowers bloom the birds migrate to Domino Park, and in some cases a little too early. The beetles emerge from the muck at the bottom of the pond, to everyone’s delight. Let the games begin. Chickens are found running amuck, and the Easter Bunny makes an appearance at dawn, to the horror of the raccoons. The whole crazy adventure concludes with a very unfortunate Easter Egg Hunt. That could only happen in Domino Park. 31 pages of full color comic strips. Show more Show less
DeeDee Andrews worked for many years in Marketing and Graphic Design for a manufacturing company. She created catalogs and advertisements that made industrial widgets and gizmos look cool. Through marketing she was given the opportunity to travel the world. DeeDee found herself living in Brussels, Belgium at that important time in history when the Berlin Wall came down and the Gulf War began. There’s food for future blogs. Fast forward and she found herself in the United States, now married with twin boys. After their twins had too much fun in first grade and didn’t learn anything, DeeDee and her husband decided to home-school. During that 7 year home-schooling period the “Domino Park Comics” were born. Drawing on a life time love of comic books and newspaper comic strips, and DeeDee’s Graphic Design background, she drew comic strips to encourage her kids to read. (Maybe she just told herself it was for the kids, but maybe it was because she just really needed a creative outlet.) DeeDee received a Kindle as a Christmas gift in 2011, which gave her the idea to move her comic strips onto the public stage. She loaded her first book on Amazon in January 2013 with the second appearing in March 2013. Her boys are graduating from high school in May 2013 and talking about moving away from home. Now it’s time to crank up the creative juices and really play. It’s time to go back to “Domino Park” for more fun and excitement.
I recently had the opportunity to read the Domino Park Comic books by Dee Andrews. Both books are more of an "experience" than a "read." The artistry and the story lines harken back to a time when comics were comedically multi-layered to entertain both adults and children. The illustrations are gorgeous and the stories are funny and educational. I strongly suggest taking a trip to Domino Park.
Ok, ok, I admit it. I'm hooked on a comic (blushes, hangs head). But I've rated this four stars as I would have liked it to be just a little longer. Funny stuff though. One bit even made my husband chuckle.
