White wolf shifter Selene Westfall knows pain—she is certain her father was responsible for her mother’s death. And she lives to exact revenge. So when she is challenged by a savage black wolf, she puts up a vicious fight—only to become the black wolf’s Bondmate as a result of his bite.

In a Nutshell: This is an average paranormal romance that series fans will enjoy well enough.

Why I Read this Book: I’ve passively enjoyed this series.

What I Liked: I’m a total sucker for world building and I like it in this series. The Alpha Pack is a group of Navy SEALS who were changed into shifters and are now an elite fighting force against evil paranormal things. I love all the different men and their roles within the unit. I also like the extra people, the mysterious and powerful Fae, Blue, and the gremlin mascot along with the pack’s new allies, the vampires. I’ve always had a love of sci-fi and this series does a really good job world building.

What I Also Liked: Zander is utterly charming. He’s a soldier-protector but with an innate kindness that comes from his healing ability. He’s got softness to his character that the others didn’t have, for instance, being able to see Selene’s revenge desire and still wanting to protect Nick, the Alpha Pack leader. Zander is a tender and hot hero who is never the selfish “alpha-hole” of many romance novels. In fact, much of the novel’s tension is set around Zander’s healing ability and the injury it causes him when he helps others.

What I Didn’t Like: As much as I like Zander, the romance was just meh. The mates trope is heavily used here so the eroticism was present but the emotional connection was an afterthought. To make it worse, Zander’s injury which was a nice character nuance was fixed too quickly and didn’t allow for any relationship growth. Selene was so set on revenge that she didn’t see Zander and his tenderness until almost too late but even that emotional connection seemed more tied to them being mates than them having a true emotional intimacy.

IMO: Series fans will know what they’re getting into here, as I did, and will like the book well enough but I doubt this will hook new readers unless they like the paranormal setting more than a lackluster romance.

I think this is landing on the DNF shelf. I don't hate it, don't get me wrong, but for a book that sounds so great, and practically screams my name (fated mates, PNR, special ops, shifters), it's really a dud.

100 pages in, and I may finish it down the road, but for now, I'm annoyed at the heroine who's a narrow-minded, impulsive in the bad way, and rude, and the hero who's so emo and whiny that I genuinely don't like either character.

So, yeah. I'm not going to read any further.

Audio version

This was just ok. Insta-love and lot's of cheesy dialogue. Not one of my favorites in this series. I'm not sure if the series is getting worse or my tastes have just changed a lot since I read the first book.

I did this on audio and the narrator was just ok. Her "sexy" voice was not good. She emphasized things in weird ways at weird times. Not horrible but not great either.

Zander and Selene are bonded together accidently when Zander takes a bite out of her, while in wolf form, fending off her attack on Nick, his commander. Selene is hell bent on taking revenge out on her father, Nick, after being brought up to think he killed her mother. As a reader it is evident there’s more to this story, but it took a while to get to the truth. I wanted these two to get to the truth and repair their father/daughter relationship, seeing as the lies caused them both so much pain.

In the meantime, Zander and Selene must make sense of their surprise bond as the Alpha Team track rogue vampires on a killing streak. Yes, this was all a little instant romancey, but hey, shifter stories can usually make that work. Selene and Zander were pretty well matched for not meeting previously, and their attraction was powerful thanks to the mating bond.

My only complaint with this story was the reckless choices Zander made with his life. Using his paranormal abilities to heal others put him in danger, because he was healing from previous injuries. We’re talking blowing-blood-vessels-in-his-brain-and-dying kind of danger. Going out with the rest of his pack to hunt these rogue vampires seemed completely stupid when his doctors repeatedly warned him of the danger. I wanted to smack him more than a few times! Also, why didn’t Nick, as his commander, ban him from going?

Cole’s Redemption is the second book I’ve read in the Alpha Pack series and other than some last minute drama that made me want to throw something, I really enjoyed it. The story was fast paced, action packed and full of sexy times! Shifter romances are always so much fun, filled with primal instincts and possessiveness! Whenever I discover Kirsten Potter is the narrator I try and “read” the book by audio (which you can add for $3.49 when you buy the Kindle version!). Her performance was a treat as usual!

I’ve already downloaded the next book, Nick’s story. What he went through at the end of this book twisted my stomach, so I’m sure his story will be a bumpy ride…

It's been a long time since I wanted to read a paranormal book but lately I've been wanting to. So when I had the opportunity to pick something to read instead of having to read something, that's what I picked. I'm so glad I did.

This book is part of a series but it's the first one I've read. It worked as a stand along, though. The whole team of SEALS that were changed together have had their own books and they were part of this one. I enjoyed meeting them and never felt confused. The author does a good job of helping the newbie keep up without boring a veteran.

What a paranormal world this is too. There are shifters, vamps, fae, and more. There are paranormal powers that the team member each have. It's crazy how much is going on but I completely enjoyed it.

The characters are strong and I loved them. Zan has lost his hearing as a result of a previous mission. He's struggling to still be part of the team because he feels like a vulnerability. But he's the kind of guy who will give his last breath to his team. I adore him even as I want to smack him for risking his life so much. Selene is bitter over the lose in her past but she's been lied to. Trying to come to terms with that is pretty hard for her. She's a strong woman who doesn't sit back and let the guys fight. I enjoyed them both.

The story is packed. Pieces from previous books come into play and the story for the next book is set up. Speaking of the next one - I want it. I checked it out and don't be surprised if you see it on my stack next week. I may not be able to resist it.

I read this one is a couple of sittings. It could easily be a straight through read.

Peeps that enjoy paranormal with lots of different creatures, a great story that's more than romance and some hot steam will enjoy this read.

This is book five in J D Tyler's Alpha Pack series and it was lovely to catch up with those guys. These are ex navy seals each with unique Psychic powers who were viciously attacked by werewolves whilst serving in Afghanistan and now they perform covert operations for the government. The Alpha Pack are the ones sent in when any paranormal crime is detected but theirs is not an ideal life . Hidden away these men may still be fighting for their country but they are also fighting for their own survival . Rogue vampires are attacking people in board daylight and somehow the Alpha Pack have to find out just who is behind it. Problem is they may not like the answer !
Zander Cole has recently been injured and now is left with limited hearing and his healing ability is quite literally killing him. He knows that he's becoming a liability to his team but all he wants is to do his job . Seriously hurting he goes out for a run but comes across a beautiful white wolf attacking his commander Nick Westfall and intervenes. When he pulls the smaller wolf off he bites her and everything changes. She's not just a random shifter attacking , no she's the estranged daughter of his commander Nick and that makes her a born wolf! Zander has quite literally bitten off more than he can chew because it turns out the white wolf Selene is his mate and he just triggered their mating bond!
Selene Westfall is there to kill her father but Nick and the team take her in to allow her and Zander time to get to know each other. Selene had always believed her father Nick to be a cruel murderer but what she sees in him is at total odds with everything she's been told. Zander is beyond pleased with his luck in finding the one woman who could be his perfect mate but knows that treading carefully is the only way to go. Selenes hatred of her father has made her bitter and Zander is not exactly in a good place himself but together the two damaged wolves might be able to find happiness. The past is starting to collide with the present and it's bringing even more danger into the Alpha Pack but facing it head on is their only choice.
I love these books as not only is the world building almost believable but for me it's the diverse characters that just command my attention. These guys are such strong personalities and it's fabulous the way the author brings out each ones individual quirks. Zander has always relied on his ability to heal others but without that and his own hearing damaged he clearly feels that he no longer belongs. It's a heartbreaking moment but the author quickly introduces the heroine Selene to offset any sentimentality and trust me Selene does not do sentimentality! I will be honest and say I thought they connected a bit too easily for this reader but it's explained as Selene is a born wolf and therefore used to the idea of mating. I just prefer a bit more of a chase but that's a personal thing. Their physical relationship is almost immediate and is frequent but I didn't find it erotic although other readers may well find it a sensual read.
It's an interesting idea to bring Selene into the series as we now find out a lot more about wolf pack dynamics and in particular Nicks history. Im sure Ms Tyler is about to reveal a lot more in her next book and I for one am looking forward to it. So really what we have here is a story within a story. Selene's need for revenge is part of it but it's a complicated series of lies that have been told . Her mating with Zander could well be the salvation of both of them but then we also have the Rogue vampire problem and it's interesting to note that vampires are also introduced as possible allies which could well lead to other stories. Quite a simple romance in many ways but it's everything that's happening around that this reader really enjoyed. I so want Nick to get his happy ever after , I want to read an awful lot more about the Fae, I really need to know more about the vampires and oh yes I must mention a certain sorcerer and doctor do experience something magical!
Well written and it was fabulous to catch up with these guys. Lots going on and still an awful lot more to come from the Alpha pack . Well worth reading this series in order and a good read for lovers of shifter stories.

In Cole's Redemption the great evil (for now, a new one is sure to come along) has been contained and life should be starting to get back to normal. Whatever normal might actually be... of course for the Alpha Pack there are still a myriad of supernatural evil to be contained. Their latest case involves a series of rogue vampires acting very oddly..

Zander Cole is one of the men who had been turned supposedly by rogue shifters in Afghanistan. It gets even more suspicious since every man on their team had some sort of natural supernatural power. For Zander he's a healer. It's a deep set part of him to heal.. even to his own detriment. Injured in the last great battle, Zander discovers his worst fear.. he can heal but now it's at great expense to himself. He needs to let himself heal before he attempts healing anyone else. Much easier said than done for a man like Zander. Add to the fact that he has watched his team start to find their mates and he is feeling alone. Unable to be a viable part of the team and feeling like an outsider, Zander has decisions to make. The last thing he needs is an unexpected mating to a gorgeous wolf with a plan for vengeance.

Selene Westfall is a born wolf. She has lived her life as part of the pack but alone. The death of her mother and disappearance of her father has led her to a desire for vengeance. She has been fed a pack of lies her entire life and is convinced that her father murdered her mother. Now she has one mission in life.. vengeance. Easier said than done when her father is Nick Westfall, leader of the Alpha Pack. A man of honor and duty who ADORES his daughter and has missed her every day has been gone. Forced to face him and exactly what he is, Selene is confused to say the least. This man is not the coward she has pictured her father to be. To make things worse, she has been mated with one of Nick's loyal team.

This is one of those books that ties the relationship to everything going on. There are rogue vamps to find and obliterate, A traitor to find, new alliances to make, Nick and Selene to figure out what is really true and of course Zander's injury.. Each issue alone would make for an excellent foil but Ms Tyler is ambitious and tells a story with depth and intensity. Selene and Zander don't have the time to sit back and get to know each other. They aren't thrust into a do or die situation that is filled with adrenaline and they fall madly in love over a weekend.. NOPE.. they have a life to live. Their romance is part of their lives, with outside issues always there.. you know like a real relationship (ok a real relationship with a born shifter and a turned shifter with natural healing abilities, you know every day normal stuff).

All of this doesn't distract it enhances! Excellently done!!

And for those of you who LOVE the Alpha Pack.. no worries we get to see all of them in action once again.

I had a lot of fun with this book..

My Review:
I listened to most of this book in audiobook form. Honestly, I don't think I should listen to this author's stories in audio. In this particular book, there seemed to be quite a bit of lovey-dovey schmaltz-y style talk which I normally don't enjoy, but it's 10 times worse when listening to audio...to me, anyway. I honestly don't think it would have been near the aggravation to me if I had simply been reading the book and I would have given this book a slightly higher rating.

Because I did enjoy the story overall. Zan and Selene both have rough back stories. He's quickly going deaf because he's overused his gift of healing and he's having to accept that he's a detriment to Alpha Pack, a group of friends that he lives for.

Selene is new on the scene in this story. She's Nick's daughter. He's the leader of the alpha pack and she wants and plans to kill him for revenge. Zan and Selene don't realize they are mates until it's too late and they're already bonded so this is an insta-relationship kind of book.

I did like the complex emotions that built up the back story of this book. I think there could have been a bit more conflict for Zan and Selene and their unexpected mate bond. Their immediate joy about having hot, easy sex seemed to be just too easy and the two accepted that really readily I would have liked to have seen them fight that mate-bond a bit just on principle.

Nick played a lot into this story, too. I loved his aspect of the story and am so ready to read his book. One of the great things about falling behind in this series is that I can immediately jump into his book.

Overall this wasn't my favorite book from the series, but I do blame a lot of that on listening to the first 75% of it on audio. This is nothing against the narrator. I just don't personally feel that this author's writing style is good combination for me personally in audio. And I know that's not an issue for me when simply reading her books as I've adored all of her series so far.

This is the first book by Tyler I've read. I really liked the world. The Alpha Pack is interesting and I enjoyed learning about the different members. The suspense plot was interesting and kept the story moving forward.

Something about the romance bothered me. I can't quite put my finger on what. Maybe it was how fast they fell into each other without seeming to have much of a connection? Or maybe it was the fated-mates thing? I'm not entirely sure. I just had a hard time connecting with that part of the story.

This is unique series!!! I would love a novella of Kai's birth from Kalen's POV!! He is my fave!!!

Wish there had been a little less sex and more getting to know each other on this book. Loved the carryover of the white wolf and who she was.

For the series future.. I hope Noah has a twin sister!!! I'm just not a fan of M/M romances.

I love the Alpha Pack! JD Tyler continues to write fasinating storylines, the characters are immensly entertaining. Unlike several authors we continue to hear about members of the Alpha Pack and their mates who's stories have been told but the characters put in more than just an appearance or receive only passing mention.I can only hope she continues to deliever more of the same

This is your average feel good PNR. I do like that this series has a few differently-abled characters and there seems to be a budding m/m romance. Apparently people with disabilities and gay people exist in this world. There might even be brown people.

Zan has been such a vital part of the Alpha Pack team since the beginning and his personality and care of his friends made him easy to like. I was so glad this poor guy was finally getting his story after all that has happened to him. At first, it seems like life is dealing him another blow when he finally encounters his bondmate. She is nothing like he imagined, but she is more than he could have ever hoped for since she has the power to save him.

The story opens with Zan contemplating the fact that with his debilitating injuries, he might be a liability to his team. A near fatality during a fight with vampire rogues leaves him feeling like his fears are justified. He feels its best if he leaves the team, but promises Jax that he will let it ride for a while.

Selene Westfall waits outside the compound with revenge on her mind. Her father is in there and she hates him for killing her mother and running off selfishly leaving Selene behind to face all the fallout alone. She knows he'll need to come out eventually.

Nick Westfall, leader of alpha pack, has a lot eating at his soul from his own past mistakes and what his gift (or more aptly put, curse) shows him of the future is about to get ugly for him. On a run in his wolf nature to clear his mind, he is attacked by his very own daughter.

Zan is out running to just enjoy the freedom of being alone and outside the medical facility. He is shocked to run across a wolf attacking his leader. He races to the rescue and just when he's about to deliver the death blow, something stops him, but not before he bites her. The murderous wolf is his bondmate and he has just accidentally bonded them. He has no idea what to make of it, but he'll protect her as much as he can. He wants to give this unexpected bond a try and convince her that she's wrong about Nick.

Selene tries to hold onto her anger once she is brought into the Alpha Pack facility, but when she starts watching and listening, she discovers that things just don't add up. Her dad isn't what she expected and neither are those he leads. Her new mate and everyone else coaches her to take an open mind and believe only what she observes for herself. Selene is confronted by new feelings when danger comes to both Nick and Zan and it has her rethinking all she knows.

She'd suffered quite a blow to her 'Get Nick' campaign, and her world paradigm was shifting. Without her anger to use as a shield against the world, she was lost.
She was simply a woman who needed her man to hold her bruised heart.
So that's what he did all through the afternoon and into the night. He tucked her close to his heart and let her know, without words, that she could trust him. That she was his.
p. 159 Zan from Cole's Redemption

The vampire rogue threat sends everyone into mission mode and things get intense from there. Zan and Selene along with Nick discover that sometimes time runs out before you're ready and you missed your chance.

The story threads on this one kept things pretty busy, but there weren't so many that it was distracting or confusing. It stayed tight and on target with no lag. There were three narrators: Zan, Selene and Nick. This story had several components including Zan's recovery and acceptance of his place on the team, Selene's revenge turned truth-seeking mission, Zan and Selene's romance, and finally the story of Nick's past and a hint of his future. All these stories were great and worked really well for me though the romance was probably a tad under-developed.

That being said, it wasn't really lacking so much as it just happened quickly- fated mate type thing. With Selene's personality, Zan was a perfect match for her. Usually its the female who smooths out the rough on the male, but this story its the opposite and I loved that. Zan is no weakling by any stretch and he has fighting skills, but he's not aggressive and is more a team player than other big strong men tend to be. Selene was all prickles at first, but Zan stuck by her. It was his loving nature that won her over so that she wanted the mating as much as he did. And that beautiful, heroic male just kept giving and sacrificing for others so that I teared up watching him give it all.

I only had one real botheration for the whole story and it was the way everyone, including Nick, regarded the events from Nick's past. Maybe I'm wrong and didn't grasp what was actually happening, but honestly, other than survivor's guilt and regret? I didn't see what he had to beat himself up about and I certainly didn't see how he could be held to blame by Selene and his former pack. An evil being did wrong- there is where the blame should lie. Nick was totally in a no win scenario there. I was heartbroken for the guy. Nobody should have to make the choice he did and then go through what happened afterward. So as happy as I am that he got what he needed from Selene and others, it was way overdue in my book. Speaking of Nick...I want his story really, really bad. This guy needs a second chance romance of his own to heal his battered soul.

All in all, this was a strong entry in this series that lovers of passionate shifter romances and paranormal romance should take up for a try. I would recommend that the series be read in order for optimum enjoyment.

My thanks to Penguin Group for the opportunity to read this one in exchange for my honest review thoughts.

Zan has lost his hearing and is feeling like a liability to his team, Selene is convinced her father killed her mother and is determined to kill him. This shift when Zan bites Selena while protecting Nick from her and she becomes his bondmate. The blurb reads as if it's mutual healing, I'd say it was more about Selene and Nick's relationship with a side of hot bondmate sex and of course fending off rabid rogue vampires.

Wow! So not where I saw this book going. First I absolutely love Zander, and Selene comes across as this evil witch. In reality she's just an emotional mess from her childhood. Zander is the perfect mate for her. I really hope their story doesn't end here. Also what's to become of Blue? Man he deserves some happiness.

Although there was quite a bit going on in this book, the storyline was a bit ho-hum. Many scenes were the same as in previous books - nothing new in the romance line! Completely glazed over how Belial was rehabilitated.....when did that happen? Too much doom surrounding Nick. If he is going to die, just do it! Frustrating.
