Forgot how much I love the concept of this series, I haven't seen the anime in so long or read the manga so it's nice to read the series again, I forgot how good it is!

Some of the names of the servamps are a bit confusing at times but once u learn to pick them out ur good, heads up there.

“Somebody", "somebody" is always what everyone's thinking. Acting like there's nothing you can do yourself is the easy approach. But there's always "somebody" who comes forward. Time went by in the world. I wanted to be that "somebody." I'm sure, right now that "somebody" is "you and me.”
- Mahiru Shirota

3.5 stars.💙 this review does not contain any spoilers // Confusing at times but funny and entertaining. Servamp is a manga you can pick up just to take a break from reading long series with many characters and a very deep plot. There are always situations to laugh about and the few characters with their different personalities are easy to become aware.

about the plot;
Servamp is about the story of Mahiru Shirota , an ordinary school student who hates difficult things. He always takes the easy way, thinking of it as the best. One day he picks up a black cat from the street giving him the name Kuro (= japanese: "black"). 🐱 Suprisingly, Kuro turns out to be a lazy vampire, complaining about exhausting actions. On top of all Mahiru finds out that Kuro is not even a normal vampire. Kuro, alias Sleepy Ash, is one of the seven vampire siblings, representing the sin "sloth".

The story continues with dark past stories , entertaining characters and Mahiru realising that sometimes you have to take the long and difficult way. 🖤

some thoughts;
My favourite character is Kuro and I was sure of that before I even read the first caps. A vampire who can transform into a cat and does a good job representing sloth? Yes, you already got me with that. ♡
I also think that Tsubaki is an interesting character, although he is always saying that things are not interesting at all. I am looking forward to read the next volume.

I'm enjoying A LOT the added context and scenes in the manga that weren't in the anime, and also the subtle differences in the characters (like Mahiru has a harder personality and Kuro is so much more of a loser). I can't wait to keep reading and also keep seeing all these differences and how the story develops with that in mind as I can already tell I'm going to enjoy it even more than I enjoyed the anime.

The premise of this series is really interesting! I enjoyed this first volume a lot and I hope the series gets even better from here!

Content: relatively clean, though there is one panel where part of a man's butt is visible as he transforms back into a human; also violence/blood

Kind of a slow volume, with a ton of exposition. I'm assuming the pace will pick up in later volumes. The villain is deeply creepy in a very Joker sort of way. I was totally charmed by the main character, Mahiru. He cooks, he sews, he likes for things to be simple, and he doesn't hesitate in the slightest before deciding to put his life on the line for others.

The tagline (A vampire cat only serves one master) caught my interest immediately, vampire cats? Yes, please! So I bought it, brought it home and opened it up to read it. The doodle under the front cover made me giggle, always a good sign!

Shirota Mahiru is a fifteen year old boy who likes simple things. He is serious and helpful. His class always knows that he can and will help them. He mostly lives alone so he knows how to cook, clean and sew. One day he sees a stray cat laying on the sidewalk whimpering pitifully. Mahiru picks the kitty up and takes it home. And that little action changes his life forever. That little cat is actually a servamp, a servant vampire. Picking that cat up started Mahiru down a path to the supernatural and he'll be lucky to survive.

Mahiru's helpful nature draws him into several battles. He can't just walk away when he sees other vampires attacking humans. Mahiru learns that there are seven other servamps out there. Each one represents one of the seven deadly sins plus one extra that the others must stop before he destroys the world. Being the seven deadly sins though, they aren't really that great at working as a team or even being in the same room together.

This manga is a great mix of humor and seriousness. The seven deadly sins as vampires is a pretty funny thought to me. 'Vampire cat' is also a humorous idea. Mahiru is a very serious and studious boy and he is a great balance for the humor elements. The final couple of pages had quite the plot twist and definitely left me wanting more!

If you are a fan of Blue Exorcist, Blood Lad or Soul Eater you will probably enjoy this one!

This was okay but rather boring. I get that all the characters have only one personality trait, but it just fucking annoys me that they have to point that out again and again. It's just not funny after the 100th time. If the characters would not repeat the same sentences at least one time on every single page, I might have enjoyed reading this.
Moreover, I sometimes find it very hard to understand what is going on or what I can see in the panel. Most of the time, I was totally confused, so I'm not going to keep on reading this. I guess watching the anime would make at least that part easier, but all those repetitions will stop me from doing that. I can only give this a 2/5-rating and be done with this series, too.
How exhausting...

Teenager Mahiru makes the mistake of saving a black cat who turns out to be the vampire embodiment of Sloth (the sin, not the animal).

I wasn't blown away by this volume and I don't feel like I followed everything that took place. The art jumped all over the place and it was hard sometimes to tell who was who. The idea of vampires who are the seven sins is interesting and I'm a sucker for black cats. If I didn't already have the second volume, I might not continue but since I do, I'll give the next one a try.

The manga series “Servamp” written by Strike Tanaka. It centers around a high school student named Mahiru who lives in Japan mostly by himself. He finds a cat on his way home from school one day, names him Kuro, and takes him back home, only to realize that the cat is actually a vampire and can transform into a human form. I found this series from a friend at school. She introduced me to the manga series and the anime. She saw how I enjoyed it and decided to get me the first two volumes of the series for my birthday.
The story revolves around Mahiru who likes simple things and dislikes complicated things, and is a high school student. He finds a cat one day and names him Kuro, only to find out the cat is a type of vampire called a Servamp, which is short for “servant vampire”. A servamp becomes bonded to an individual through a contract, which is activated by the individual giving them a nickname, and an item for them to wear. There are 8 servamps in total, with each of them representing the seven deadly sins. The 8th however The servamp of melancholy named Tsubaki wants to start a war between vampires and humans due to his hated for them. Kuro and Mahiru then meet a few other characters who happen to also have the other servamps as well to help them stop Tsubaki and team up with them.
The series is still going on and hasn’t ended yet, but from what I’ve read and watched it’s a good read. The story is great and the characters are well written enough to make you grow attached to them, and possibly relatable in some way. My favorite part was later on in the story’s series during the C3 arc, because that’s where some of my favorite characters come in. Since it’s quite a ways into the story, I won’t spoil anything.
In my opinion, it’s a pretty good manga, and of course it’s better than the anime as well. The story is interesting and it makes you more invested into the characters and their hardships. Even the villains are relatable to point. If your an anime/manga fan you’d enjoy this very much. As for similar titles, I’d recommend Nanbaka, Bungo Stray Dogs, and other manga, whatever you prefer.

So, I've only watched the first few episodes of the anime, and I thought the second two episodes felt rushed. However, this volume appears to cover those episodes (along with a new scene that isn't in the first few episodes), so I don't think my issue with the anime is that they rushed it, such as I've seen many claim. It seems to be a matter of the overall writing. Reading this volume, those first few episodes don't feel so rushed anymore (at least not in terms of how they handled the anime) because other than one scene, everything else was pretty much the same.

One little problem I had with this manga was that there were times it was difficult to tell who exactly was talking on certain pages, especially if there were more than 2-3 characters in a scene.

I don't believe I'll be continuing the manga. Simply put: this is a case where I'll just watch the anime and be satisfied with that (plus, I personally enjoyed what I saw with the anime more than the manga). This isn't bad or anything, I just don't read manga much anymore. I have to really adore a manga from volume 1 in order to continue reading the series.

I forgot how comedic and creepy this story can be! It’s funny - especially scenes between Mahiro and Kuro - but it takes on a whole different vibe in the action scenes! The art style and story give me horror-esque Alice in Wonderland vibes, which I didn’t expect to enjoy!

I LOVE Kuro’s cat form!!! It’s so cute! And combined with his…unique personality makes me love him more! Plus, he’s a badass when he’s fighting! The dynamic between him and Mahiro is push and pull (literally), but it is a great catalyst for the plot.

Honestly, I think this manga/anime is severely underrated. It covers important things like taking responsibility, not overthinking things, understanding how your life ties into another person’s, and of course, unless you want to get dragged in a world of servant vampires (servamps), face other evil vampires, and get an unwanted house guest at the same time, be careful what you bring home!

It's not perfect, but it's certainly a solid start.
In general, I like the idea of vampires starting coalitions with humans to get stronger.
Even though a lot of details stay unclear after this first volume (like if there is any danger for Kuro as a servamp) and the pacing is still kind of slow, I'm pretty satisfied with the exposition we're offered.
I would have loved to learn more about the other servamps and their eves, but I guess this is what will come in the next volumes, as we're already offered lots of information.
About the characters: Kuro is a solid hit, Mahiru is ... okay? I don't have enough information yet to decide whether he has solid motivations or not. Snow Lilly seems interesting, but maybe that is because I love this type of character.

Anyway, I will continue this series and I'm curious about what lies ahead. :)

Servamp by Strike Tanaka is a story about Mahiru and how his parents died and his uncle took him in and after that he wanted to live a simple life. Then he took in a stray cat and named it Kuro. After he got Kuro he went to school and was coming back home. He comes home to see an guy watching tv and eating noddles. Then when he opens the currents the guy turns into Kuro the cat then on accident he make a contract with the cat and then the cat explains that he's a vampire.

I love this book because it made me laugh. The names are also fun to pronounce. It also had every thing I love, like vampires, cats, and comedy.

I recommend this book to everyone because it was funny and wasn't hard to understand. I think everyone will love Kuro because he's the most funny.

I really liked this book, the author does a great job of describing what type of person the characters are like, just like Kuro, the Sin of Sloth. He is always tired and lazy, just like sloths should be!
I would like to see Mahiru be more caring to Kuro, rather than just forcing him to do what he says, but that probably will be covered in the future. The way Mahiru reacts to Kuro and his powers is realistic. Scared about the future, but also excited with his new found powers!
This is a very intriguing book, and I’m looking forward to what will happen in their lives!

I think Servamp o1 by Strike Tanaka was hilarious because it had some pretty funny moments and some action. I really LOVED it, but it needed to be longer because I finished it really fast. I chose this book because I saw the anime and I wanted to read the manga version. This book is about a teenage boy named Shirota Mahiru, who finds a black cat and takes it in and named him Kuro, but Kuro is really a Vampire. I think people who would like a funny manga series, and a series with vampires in it, should read this book.
