MURDER ON THE GREEN At Takeru's first game at a real golf course, he has the fortune of meeting Hanabusa, a pro golfer who just won the Japan Masters. He agrees to play a round with Takeru and his father. Little do they know he is there for more than a game of golf.
2/20/23: I love that past me wrote this reviews about what each murder was about. This are very intense so I think I am going to take a break and finish the last three volumes tomorrows. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This was a such a great read!
In Case 3, Sherdog witnesses the murder of a famous golfer. Miki's father is so sure that the ball hit by him was what caused the victim's death. But Sherdog knows that it was the rival golfer that did it.
In Case 4, a cram school teacher kills a student. I was so surprised. I had thought that the student would kill the student.
In Coffeehouse Time 2, candidate running for student body president are answering questions. The male running gets jealous that he is getting beat so he uses his photography skills to create a scandalous picture. Can Sherdog and Takeru prove that he did it?
With each volume, it gets intense to prove who the murderer was to the police. I am so loving these!
THE STORY SO FAR "Hello, my dear Watson." The dog spoke! Takeru took a dog home from the pound, and he turned out to be Sherlock Holmes! But apparently Takeru is the only one who can understand him speak. Named for Sherlock Holmes, but with a canine spin, Sherdog and his master Takeru find them- selves surrounded by mysterious crimes in modern-day Japan!!
I do come across the strangest of books in our local charity shop and this series is one i started after finding the first too volumes.
The premise is simple. The spirit of the master detective, Sherlock Holmes has reincarnated into the body of a rescue dog. Convinced that his adoptive parent Takeru Wajima is in-fact the reincarnation of trusted sidekick Doctor John Watson, Sherlock opens up communication with the now very confused student.
Volume three is jam packed with mysteries, including 2 'cases', a short story, and the first part of some bonus content. The first cases sees Sherdog witness a pro-golfer fleeing the scene of an apparent accidental death and the second a teacher thinks she's gotten away with murder until Sherdog suspects there is more to the apparent suicide of a student.
Utterly charming and surprisingly good. Sherdog 'witnesses' rather than solves most of the cases so far. I'm hoping for a bit of a twist back to a classic who-done-it in future volumes. 4 1/2 stars.
I love this series, and I don't consider myself that harsh of a reviewer (unless it's for a Hemingway novel) but I just can't find it in myself to give five stars to a book that portrays the relationship between Holmes and Adler in such way. That being said, this is pretty a fun series to read and the premise is really creative!
The golf mystery was so strange and the biggest thing that struck me was it could have been gayer. Also the stress and grief that one guy felt when he thought he accidentally killed the victim was great. Like, realistic in an important way. And still fun and rather neat.
I disliked this one most of the series so far. The mysteries weren't very interesting, and the juvenile nature really came across in this one. I will continue the series (for as long as the library has more volumes), but I lost a little excitement for it after this one.
I’ve been slowly trying to collect this series, but I must say that my attention is waning.
There were two cases to solve in this volume, with the start of a third. One about a golf-player who kills a competitor, and another about a teacher who kills one of her students. Then they start one about two students running for president, only for the guy to make a slanderous poster about his female competitor.
The characters are all right. Takeru is okay as a hero, but Sherdog is definitely a bit more gullible, or maybe just written to be a little dumber, than I think he should be. I like Miki, or at least I like the possible romance with Miki. The artwork is good, and I like the way they draw the villains, the murderous looks they give are a nice contrast to the rest.
My biggest problem is the actual mysteries and detective work. The stories are okay, but a lot of the time they’re written rather cheesy, maybe because Sherlock is a dog. And mostly, the way that Takeru interrogates the suspects—for one, he doesn’t really have a leg to stand on, being a high school kid, but for another, every point he brings up to make them slip-up just seems like he’s pulling at straws. Most of his points are so unnecessary, with clear excuses to be made for them. It made it hard to believe, especially with how fast the suspect gives in. Plus, they aren’t very intense or exciting.
I really want to like this series, but I’m not sure if I do at this point. I think I’d rather be reading Case Closed.
