Noragami is a rare manga.

I wouldn't say the plot is original or unexpected. Shonen mangas usually involves spirits and gods, and the master-weapon thing is a lot like Soul Eater.
But, when you think about it, it's not about what story you tell, it's about HOW you tell it.
Noragami surprised me with a complicated plot and great character development. The art is absolutely fantastic and inspiring. I find myself staring at a single panel for at least 5 minutes, trying to understand the clean lineart and the gorgeous style.
Another thing I like about it is the characters themselves; too bad Hiyori isn't ass-kicking like I thought she would be, but I like her. However I hope she will be more useful towards the end. Yato's character is complicated, and at first I thought he will be another typical protagonist. However, he is smarter than most shonen lead characters, and I find his character very interesting. Yukine is also great. A lot of people dislike him, saying that he is annoying and useless. I liked the fact the he made a lot of mistakes, and also, he showed a kind and loyal side, and his character developed, and yet the Mangakas managed to keep his change realistic.
There are a lot of great side characters, such as Bishamon, ebisu, and Kofuku.
And last but not least, the message of the story; I find it very inspiring that two female Mangakas create such a wonderful SHONEN manga. It's about friendship and forgiveness, and showing boys and girls that they shouldn't seek popularity, because even one important person is enought. I like it. One person that believes in Yato is enough for him.

Noragami is a great manga for those who seek a well written, action packed story, with likeable characters and great art.
If you're searching for a new favorite manga to put in your shelf, check it out.

A mysterious man in a tracksuit, a dead boy and a half dead teenage girl.

I watched the anime around five years ago, but never picked up the manga despite being dead inside after that cliffhanger.

Yato is a god. More precisely, a god who carries out contracts and will do anything for money. Now, that sounds greedy. How much, do you ask? Why, he asks five yen.

Why Does Yato Charge Only 5 Yen For His Jobs In Noragami? - Animehunch

This track-suit touting, blue-eyed slouch is much more than he appears. Unlike other gods, he has no shrine dedicated to him and no worshippers. Yukine and Hiyori are also fantastic characters

I absolutely wish I'd read this earlier. The art is grim and I miss a little of Yato's silliness, but the manga is so much more nuanced. 9/10 stars, would recommend.

You know what?

I’m not sure what to make do this. It was a good read but man Yato is definitely a piece of work. The world building and the introduction of the various spirits and gods is really interesting. I’ve had this on my TBR for a while, and I’m actually glad that I finally picked it up! I’ve great things about the anime so I’ll be sure to check that out soon.

Whoa, I never ever HEARD of this series but it was a lot of fun.

So it begins with a girl getting bullied in class. So she finally gives up and calls a number on a bathroom stall that says hire them for help. A god comes and says he's there to fix all her problems. However, she doesn't believe him. Hilarity ensues. After that big first chapter we get much deeper into the God and his life but also the other main character of the series. Can they work together to stop demons and save people who is the god too much of a stuck up to do any of that?

This was really fast paced and fun. The fights were cool but it was the humor that worked almost all the time. Little slapstick but mostly just great reactionary humor. I also enjoyed all the characters, and especially the god, who's a piece of shit. I'll be checking out more of this series. A 4 out of 5.

Noragmi Volume 1

This work is dedicated to Kawashima Tadashi-sensei in heaven.
--Adachi Toka

TITLE: Noragami (ノラガミ) literally Stray Gods

SYNOPSIS [from MyAnimeList]:
Yato, a minor god, dreams to become the most revered deity in the world with big shrine and all. However, being a penniless god that he is, he has a long way to go and his shinki leaving him doesn't help matter. Later, when he does his job, a high school girl named Hiyori Iki pushes him out of the way of a speeding bus; unaware of his status as deity.

Things get complicated when this incident triggers abnormality in Hiyori's soul, causing her to make an Astral Projection whenever she falls unconscious. To turn herself back to normal, Hiyori must help Yato becoming a better god who can fix the problem, along with Yato's new shinki, Yukine.

"Even if things are painful and tough. People should appreciate what it means to be alive at all."
--Yato

Adachi Toka is female mangaka duo that worked with Tadashi Kawashima on the series ALIVE: The Final Evolution until Kawashima-sensei's death in July 15, 2010. Yes, Kawashima worked on the series on his deathbed. It was saddening to read the last chapters of ALIVE as I knew about this fact. Regardless I was drawn to the beautiful and distinct art style of Adachi Toka, and was delighted to see a series emerged from them. While I loved the story of ALIVE and miss it, Noragami reminds me of what I loved the most about that series: the art style combined with the characters and story.

The story follows Hiyori when she meet Yato and eventually his new shinki, Yukine, and truly delves into what it means to be alive. Just from the few pages or rather the first volume, I can tell that there is a deeper meaning and message that will unfold over the course of the series. I've always loved these kinds of stories. Even with the usage of Japanese Mythology as a base--deities and whatnot--it truly amazes me what emerges out of Japanese culture to inspire these kinds of stories. So don't be fooled by the fact it is a shounen and a typical guy fights demons trope, I'm sure you may be surprised.

A fun premise that is well executed despite stereotypical characterisations and overused manga tropes. The world buildings is the main draw, and if more intricacies are introduced to further add to the key selling point, it has the potential to be fantastic.

I have a thing called "Noragami addiction".
Every time I watch an episode of the anime or even when I listen to ten seconds of the opening songs, I become addicted again. So this time I decided I had to read the manga.
(Also because I'm a so hard yatori shipper and I can't wait for the anime to make something happen between these two :3)

[ Releído en Agosto 2020. ]

Read it for the #SpringIntoMangaLove mangathon.

I actually have absolutely no words to explain how much I loved this story. The romance, the supernatural aspects, the memory loss and underworld plotlines - I could genuinely talk about it for days. Not to mention there isn't a single character I don't absolutely love. Everyone needs to read this I swear.

currently reading: chapter 41

Noragami was a random anime I saw on Netflix as I did my monthly browse through the anime section.

I read the synopsis and thought it was your typical "god, weapon-master-type of shonen, nothing really new or original, but it seemed similar to one of my old favorites, Soul Eater, so I added it to my list.

In all honesty, I never really planning on watching it, plenty of shows get added on my Netflix list just to never get watched, but I was craving something like Soul Eater and what the heck, the animation was pretty. (I didn't end up watching it on Netflix because they took it off, curse you Netflix!)

Two sleepless nights later, and here I am, having binge-watched the entire two seasons and now making my way through the manga.

Noragami surprised me. Not in its originality, but in its ability to create wonderfully, flawed, and mysterious characters that I couldn't help but fall for. It has that perfect blend of humor and seriousness that I love. Yato is a child, he can be clingy and greedy and make dumb purchases, but his moments of wisdom, the glimpses into his past, his lovely and complicated relationship with Yukine and Hiyori, have made me fall for this series.

I obviously cannot wait for season three, but I am excited to make my way through the original source material to see how it compares. I have a feeling this will be added to my list of favorite adventures. Alas, the only downside is it's not finished.

5 yen for my problems to be solved? Say less.

I got this in a loot crate anime box years ago and it has been sitting on my shelf collecting dust. Glad I finally read it.

There is a good combo of comedy and fantasy. The 1st chapter was kind of slow for me but started to pick up in the middle of chapter 2. Yato is an amazing god and while I enjoyed his crude remarks, I didn't care for him constantly explaining the plot. Despite that I am glad I stuck with this. I can't wait to read volume 2

review for the entire manga:
i already really enjoyed this but, i enjoyed it much more the second time around! literally all the characters in this are so good and i love every single character dynamic in this. the best ones were this side couple i was dying over whenever they appeared (and now have a 100 screenshots in my phone of them...) and the main found family. the worldbuilding is neat and i like the concept that it was built on. i've teared up a few times for this (of joy and sadness) which is great!

i was really leaning towards giving this a full five stars but, i didn't really like the final arc to this because i felt a character's progression into something that steered this arc wasn't realistic, one of the side stories of this arc was boring asf, and some of just the main story of the final arc was really boring. also, i was fearing that this would have a sad ending and it didn't? it was just kind of abrupt and made you wanting more - but, not really in the best way.

even though the final arc disappointed me, i loved everything else! and noragami is something precious to me because its anime adaptation is something that me and a loved one bonded about a lot and i have a lot of fond memories on that. reading this took me along a little trip around memory lane as well!
