Grand Slam

Rate this book
All of his life, Spencer Hightower dreamed of playing baseball in the Major Leagues. He survived growing up gay in rural Alabama due to his impressive skill on the baseball diamond. Now living in Rhode Island and playing for the AAA Pawtucket Red Sox, he’s only a few steps away from his goal.

Brock Kinkaid, CPA, faced each day with a smile that hid his deepest desire. He wanted to be a father. Unfortunately, the gay men he knew were not into the daddy scene. Resigned to being childless, he lavished his attention on his niece and nephew. When Corey won tickets to see the local baseball team in action, they suckered him into taking them despite the fact he loathed the game. Who would have guessed one homerun ball would change everything?

Wow, what a lovely book, that really came out of left field! (Ha! See what I did there? With the baseball analogy? I'm just so darned clever...) This is the sweet story of a minor league baseball player, Spencer, whose entire life goal has been to make it to the Big Show, the major leagues, and his love interest Brock, loving brother, uncle and numbers cruncher, who wants nothing more than to have a family of his own. They meet, start dating, fall in love and hit a bunch of obstacles during the progression of this book and then, just when you think it can't get any better, author J.T. Cheyanne hits us with an epilogue worthy of double rainbows and puppies playing in a field of wild flowers that would never even think of causing anyone an allergic reaction.

Throw in the fact that the sex was off-the-charts and the romance was shy and touching and these two actually courted instead of just falling into bed right away, and I can really, truly HIGHLY RECOMMEND Grand Slam to all my M/M romance friends.

Maybe a 2.5

I had such high hopes when I started this, but it soon went down hill.

The first date at the restaurant left me feeling like I was reading a M/F scene, and the sex seemed to dominate the story.

The whole big mix up towards the end grated heavily with me. I just really get frustrated when the word of a stranger is taken over the word of someone you know and love.

Sadly I just never warmed up to either guy in this one.

On a positive note I adored Corey and Anna Kate, although the later did verge on the precocious side, but that I was willing to overlook. But sadly the rest for me was little more than an average M/M romance.

Oh I wanted to like this so much. We have a bit of a geek with a semi-pro baseball player and I love that mix.

The chemistry was good and the sex was hot but there were just too many misunderstandings and miscommunications here. Also the terms sexy and handsome were overused to point where my eye started skipping over parts when I could see it coming up. Not a good sign.

The drama that happened near the end surprised me, I knew there would be something happening with the homophobic ball player but I didn't expect the intensity.

This had some sweet moments but it was overly sweet for me. Still I enjoyed the read but it's not something I'll go back and read again.

"Somehow, the geek had gotten the jock."

... and, whatever you're thinking right now, let me tell you - you're probably wrong. Because this book is way better, and definitely far more refreshing than you'd expect just by reading the blurb.
Yes, Spencer is a semi-pro baseball player. Yes, Brock is a CPA - and, he hates baseball. But, honestly, that's about it when it comes to the cliché athlete/geek story.
Although Spencer always dreamed of playing in the Major Leagues, he's far from the usual in-the-closet jock, looking for some fun & partying around. And, although Brock does want to become a dad, there's so much more to him than that.

Actually, Brock made me fall in love from page one. He's simply adorable! Such a sweet, loving guy, carrying all those insecurities around... He's incredible with kids, and wants a family of his own, but can't find the right guy to have it with. And then he meets Spencer... Now, Spencer seemed all cocky at the beginning, but didn't hesitate to show his warmer, gentler side. I loved them both so much, and I simply adored them together!

Overall, Grand Slam is a sweet, hot, refreshing read. It's definitely not a coming-out story, as MCs are out, proud & (mostly) accepted. Isn't that great for a change? No hiding, denying, no double-life... Amazing! Grand Slam has all the right elements - likable characters, chemistry, romance, drama, nice side characters, sweet epilogue... So, what bothered me?

Honestly, there were times when story turned from sweet to toothache sweet. There were times when miscommunication was just a bit too much. There were times when things did not sound exactly plausible. There were some issues (Brock's ex, for one) I wish were addressed properly. And, Spencer said "Sexy" one time too many somewhere along the way.
Still, none of that managed to ruin the book for me. No way! I enjoyed reading it, loved those two guys, had an amazing time and I'd do it all over again! Just the fact that they are both openly gay, comfortable with who they are, and so good together bumped Grand Slam up on my fun list!

3.5 stars

J T stole my heart and my breath with this beautiful gay male romance. Touching on the subject of the acceptence in sport of gay male players she has produced a heartwarming story of Spencer and Brock who, against the odds are made for each other. I loved the addition of Brocks family, and Anna Kate just made the whole story even more enjoyable than it already was. I laughed so hard i had tears rolling down my cheeks at the innocent acceptance through the eyes of a child, wise beyond her years. If i could go higher i would give this a deffinate 10 out of ten. Beautifully written with a cover to catch everyones eyes this by an amazing read! Thank you JT....We think your great!

I wasn't sure what I expected when I picked up this book. What I got had not been in my mind though. Was that a bad thing? Nope. In fact I would say it was a very good thing. What I got was a book that had the drama and family fun that warmed my heart and left me with a mushy feeling inside. Yes, I am going to say it would not suit everyone and it could annoy the hell out of you. But, this is my opinion.

The book starts with Spencer and openly gay baseball player. That gets points from me. He has a bit of a run in with a team member. Anyway, he is introduced and then we meet Brock. He is the uncle to two kids and he looks after them like a dad. They meet when Brock takes the kids to see his a baseball game. His nephew, Corey, catches the ball and that's how everything starts.

There was a lot of communication. That leads to some questions being tossed out and not answered. Anna Kate, Brock's niece, was just adorable and totally me. She actually reminded me so much of me. It was sweet how open she was and I loved her "baby talk". She was the reason our MC's got together.

We also had some drama/angst. This was caused by the loathsome Jason. That lead to a big thing. It lead to them reconciling in a sense.

I loved the ending. Although, I would have liked it to be longer. I would have preferred Overall I adored this story and it is an easy 4.5 star read for me. I would not recommend it those those who don't like things to be a bit dramatic at times.

This was a recommendation from a friend and I'm glad I listened. I have a feeling readers will be seeing a lot more of J.T. Chayenne before she's done.

I really enjoyed this story. The MC's are both incredibly like able men and make you want to cheer for them and their budding relationship from the beginning. The secondary cast of characters are also very strong and Brock's niece and nephew provide some hilarious dialogue. It's obvious the author has children of her own!

Spencer is, literally, the epitome of what you want in your man. He's smart, funny, caring, sweet, gentle, hot, ambitious, sexy as hell and willing to put his heart out there. And his loyalty, sense of honor, strong values and morals are refreshing to see.

Brock is all of us, everyone, at some point in our own romantic entanglements. He doesn't understand what Spencer sees in him. He can't figure out why this handsome, personable, on his way to the BIG's, man would possibly be interested in an accountant who just wants a monogamous, loving relationship, children and a family.

Spencer loves baseball. He's always loved it. His one goal in life has always been to reach the majors. So when opportunity comes knocking he's willing to sit down and listen even though he's fallen in love with Brock and doesn't know how long distance will work. Of course there has to be a bad guy to cause conflict here or else the story wouldn't be as exciting or rewarding. Enter Jason, the recruiting agent and all around slime ball. What a pompous, self-righteous cretin!! He's really nasty and just won't take no for an answer from Spencer. Where he takes this I can't say because that would be a spoiler and I don't want to ruin the surprise!!

There is some nasty stuff near the end. Nasty because so many, many homosexuals have dealt with these types of actions throughout their lives. Narrow minded people are the bane of my existence. This author deals with these anti-gay issues straight, no pun intended, up and honestly which is really great to see.

This is a great story that you won't want to miss!

I loved this book, including the characters, the writing style of the author, and the classic jock-nerd romance. I'd have probably rated it five stars if not for a personal pet peeve of mine. I often struggle with stories that contain a "big misunderstanding" plot element if it at all appears implausible to me. And this happened to be the case with this particular story. I could not buy the notion that Spencer wouldn't just tell Brock about the contract negotiation with the Rangers, and even if he hadn't, why wouldn't Brock have figured it out? I totally get the forced-separation but it felt contrived. As soon as Brock began to feel jealous of Jason, wouldn't Spencer have sat down with him and had a heart-to-heart? Would he just allow Brock to twist in the wind and worry about something that was obviously not even an issue when all Spencer had to do was tell him about the contract offer?

I used to get this way while watching soap operas. It made me so mad when one of the characters wouldn't just blurt out the truth. I mean, that's what would happen in real life. You wouldn't throw away a relationship just to keep a secret. If your lover was upset about something, especially if it was a concern based upon something unfounded, you'd definitely confront him and talk it out. A few times while reading this story, I was pissed, partially toward Spencer for being secretive and partially at Brock for being stupid. And I can't believe Brock would just take off like that either. Why wouldn't he have stuck around the hotel long enough to tell Spencer to go straight to hell? Or at the very least, he'd have told him to EFF OFF via text message.

OK, in spite of all that, it was a really sweet love story. I really liked Brock's sister and the kids, and the ending was fantastic. Jock-nerd love stories are my favorite...obviously.

I really enjoyed this story where "Somehow, the geek had gotten the jock." I have a soft spot for books about athletes and celebrities so this hit all the right buttons.

This story was a bit unique in that Spencer was an openly gay baseball player and was accepted by his coach and team. . The story wasn't the typical story of a jock trying to hide his sexuality. Rather it focused on sexual harassment and deceit within the sport, abuse and family.

The inclusion of the children (Brock's niece and nephew) and Brock's own desire to have a family was wonderful. However I am not sure the 'voice' of the children was captured correctly. There was a lack of consistency in the language used by the youngest who slipped between bad grammar and use of some adult phrases. The 4 year old also made reference to "He doesn't make you upset like that bad Nolan did." , referring to a relationship Brock had had a couple of years before. If I read correctly she would have only been 2 years old and not remember it even if she understood that relationship.

Regardless of this small issue, the story got big ticks for dramatic events, misunderstandings and depth of feeling. Loved it when

Get it! Get it! Get it! This is the romance to buy!! J.T. is the author to buy no questions asked. The story between Brock and Spencer is one for the ages. Watching them from the first meeting when sparks tingled down both of their spines down to their toes just started the excitement. I mean who doesn't remember those moments. We watch them through the first magical spellbinding kiss and also through the up and down insecure stages. This is a study in communication and the beginings of love. There are the tough times that are very rough and with the help of family they get through. But from the begining to the epilogue you are caught in the flow and the spell of this wonderfully written story. At no time will you want to put this book down. It will hold you captive until the last sentence has a period. Thank you J.T. Cheyanne for another terrific book for my library.

I don't think the blurb reflects this book clearly. There's more to Brock's character than just wanting to be a father.

Having said that, I would have liked more from Spencer about what attracted him to this quiet accountant. While Brock tells us often about Spencer's open friendly smile, his charm and patience, except for Spencer constantly calling Brock 'sexy', we really don't have a strong idea of what Brock means to him.

However, I really enjoyed their romance. I thought the angst between them was built up realistically. Brock's insecurities are increased with Spencer's secretiveness (which is totally understandable given their short time together).

Maybe the acceptance of Spencer's sexuality by his team mates was a little too cheesy, although the final act of violence balanced that out (perhaps going too far the other way?)

Still, I really enjoyed it.

I've heard people whine and cry about how much they hate the overuse of the endearment "baby." It's never really bothered me...until now. Oh, no, it's not "baby" this time; it's "sexy." Twenty-nine of the forty-two times the word appears in the book, it is Spencer addressing Brock. Can he not remember his name?

The romance between Spencer and Sexy is quite nice. It's a case of instant attraction facilitated by children and complicated by a caricature of a bad guy. Sexy has a few issues that are basically skimmed over (probably so the book doesn't go overlong) until The Event happens leading to the Big Misunderstanding. Oh, what? You didn't expect it? How long have you been reading M/M?

I'm just gonna say it: Anna Kate annoyed me. I know she was supposed to be cute, but, no. Half the time she sounded older than her brother, the other half much younger than her supposed four years.

There are some editing issues (the use of "mismatch" instead of "mishmash" cracked me the hell up). I wasn't sure how "pet" and "boyo" became part of the very Italian Mama Rosa's vernacular, but whatever. Fortunately, I liked Spencer and I liked Sexy. I even liked them together.

(But that Epilogue? Just no. It's confusing and convoluted. Britain and Brittany? Kill me now. Honestly, it made me want to lower my score to a 2.)

For a better baseball book, I recommend JF Smith's "The Last Day of Summer."

Okay.....I asked myself if I really should write a review. Why? Because I know the author as a friend on fb and I'm not good at writing reviews for friends. I always feel like I should be enthusastic about it - even if I'm not (I'm very picky).
Well, now, I liked this cute little book so it felt wrong to keep that to myself ;)

It is that: A cute book. It has two MCs who are staightforward most of the time (and Spencer is just lovable) - I like that in books. It has cute kids (even if some parts are a bit streched in my opinion but it didn't hurt). It made me smile a lot of the time. So it is the kind of "feel good, don't think too much" - book that you need sometimes.

Honest: Sometimes I felt like "ups, I have read this a thousand times before". Some sentences felt like "standard m/m texts". So I started skipping a bit. And some parts were to sweet for me or not logical (who plans a weeding when something else is so close...not going to say what).

I think the orginality of the characters was shown, the writing still needs a bit more uniqueness.

But for now it's a solid 3,5 stars for me with potential for more. If you are new to m/m (or haven't read like over 400 m/m books like me) and love sweet romance, you are going to like it. A book like a cup of chocolate.

P.S. J.T.....from the blurb I actually expected Brock to be "into the daddy scene" ...lol...I mean the "On your knees, boy" "Yes, daddy" - scene ;)

I thought this book was adorable. I loved the characters. I laughed and the sex was hot. Throw in a little baseball. What’s not to love?

Spencer is kind of the star player of his minor league baseball team. He loves the game; it’s all he’s ever wanted to do. His dream is to make it to the majors. Spencer meets Brock one night during a photo op for a ball his nephew caught and Spencer is attracted from the moment he sees him but he has no idea if the guy likes men. Brock isn’t as outgoing and doubts a young hot baseball player like Spencer would be interested in him even if he was gay. Luckily for these two the oh so cute niece of Brock, Anna Kate ,takes care of it for them by inviting Spencer to dinner which he accepts. She then manages to fix her uncle up in probably the most amazingly adorable way I’ve ever read. You’ll just have to read it yourself. So cute!

Their first date goes really well. Spencer is affectionate and funny. He’s very interested in getting to know Brock better. Spencer’s never been in a relationship before but he knows he wants more than a hook up. Brock has been hurt before and struggles with confidence in relationships but there’s no way he can pass up a chance to enjoy whatever it is going on between him and Spencer. He’s also a bit shocked at how open and understanding Spencer’s team is about him being gay. The two begin an intimate and passionate relationship and things are getting serious but both men hold things back which you know is going to lead to trouble. I found myself anticipating which moment it was going to happen.

I really enjoyed this book. Spencer was such a likable guy. He was funny and open with his feelings. You just knew you’d love him in real life. Brock was a little more complex. His ex-did a number on him and he struggles a bit with believing that someone like Spencer would want him for more than a play thing. He strongly dislikes baseball but he finds when it involves Spencer he seems to enjoy it. I thought the fact that their relationship escalated so quickly lent well to the miscommunication problems along with Brock’s issues and Spencer’s struggle with his lifelong dream and newfound love. I enjoyed how playful the guys were with each other. Spencer maybe said “sexy” too often but it went with his southern charm thing so I rolled with it. I kind of wanted him to give Brock a nickname, something funny and sweet and only for Brock. I thought the secondary characters were great also. The kids melted my heart and I’m not a huge fan of kids in books.

My only real problem with the book was the OTT actions in the hotel room of one of the secondary characters. There were about twenty pages that pushed the limit of exaggerated actions and angst for my tastes, but I loved the guys so much I didn’t really care. I thought the rest of the conflict in the book was subtle and realistic. I thought the rest of the conflict in the book was subtle and realistic.

I will definitely keep my eye out for more from this author. Good book!

J.T. Cheyanne definitely hit one out of the park with Grand Slam. There's action, there's romance, there's emotion, there's drama... everything you want in a novel and more. Spencer Hightower plays for the Red Sox minor league team and dreams of making it to The Show one day. Baseball's his life, his one ambition, his dream, and with the statistics to back him up, the interest is there. Brock Kincaid is an accountant who dotes on his niece and nephew, even going so far as to take them to a baseball game to see their favorite team, even though he's not a fan at all. When Spencer and Brock meet, the attraction is instant, but issues come up along the way. Spencer is not afraid to go after what he wants and he thinks he's made that clear to Brock, even as he states over and over that he wants this man in his life. Brock thinks he's finally found the one person he wants to settle down with, the one man who he believes will never let him down. When the call comes from a big league team in another state, the relationship as well as their dreams are tested to the breaking point. J.T. doesn't shy away from the issues confronting openly gay couples, nor does she make it the focus of the book's drama What's revealed here are the emotions anyone would feel when the love they believed would never happen comes along. Spencer and Brock, as well as all the secondary characters, are believable in every way. They stay true to themselves and the reader will cheer for them all the way through, hoping for that Grand Slam that will have them on their feet waiting to see if the hit clears the fence. It's baseball with emotion, a winner all around.

Right off the bat I have to apologize to J.T. who was kind enough to gift me with a copy of her new book. Sorry it took me so long to review your book sweetie.

Now, having said that, I have to say that I very much enjoyed reading this book and can't believe I waited so long to read it! I love the characters in this book, these seemed so real that I felt like I was watching the story play out before my very eyes. This book is a funny, light hearted, romantic story about two people who despite their differences are perfect for each other. I loved the humor that each and everyone of the characters displayed through out the book, especially the kids, I laughed so hard at their antics throughout the story. I swear I think I laughed and sighed through out damn near the whole book! I loved the main characters Brock and Spencer, who despite their differences seem to compliment each other perfectly! And the love scenes *fans self* HELLO! I just have to say that you should either be alone or with the one you love when you read these cause they will definitely have you hot under the collar.

I do believe that J.T. Cheyanne has a home run *hehehe baseball humor* on her hands! I can't say enough about how great Grand Slam is! My only complaint about this book is that it wasn't long enough, I didn't want it to end, it's that good! So if you're looking for a great book that will make you laugh out load and warm your heart then this is a book that I highly recommend you read!

Note: This book contains M/M sex scenes that may cause you to break out into a sweat!

Nothing new here. Just another good story turns into silly melodrama and cliche .

Can I get men who are not emotional like 12-yr old girls in m/m stories? Or is it too much to ask since such characters don't offer catharsis?

Of course another wonderful read that Denise recommended to me!

Grand Slam was wonderful. It’s a story about a straight laced gay CPA, Brock, who adores his niece and nephew and focuses his life mainly on them and his job. He doesn’t date. Not after his 2 year relationship to his ex boyfriend ended in a disaster. He was called boring and maybe he was but he was okay about that.

Spencer Hightower has a dream of playing major league baseball and after not getting picked up after college is settles for playing AAA ball and working nights to help cover his expenses. He loves the game of baseball and typically everything comes after baseball including his private life. Not having the time or energy to commitment to man he decides to fill his lonely nights with a man here and a man there.

After Brock’s nephew Corey catches the homerun hit off the bat of none other than Spencer Hightower, the two meet and the chemistry was instant. The sparks going flying when they touch flesh to flesh their worlds change and everything that Spencer thought was important quickly begins to fade into the background.

JT Cheyenne pulled me in and held me tight throughout the entire read. Yes Brock and Spencer are gay and yes Brock’s niece and nephew are well aware of that. I loved how JT pulled the children into this book. Children are innocent and hold no prejudices. They love their Unca Brock and only want to see him happy and they have a feeling Spencer will be the one to make him happy.

Anna Kate and Corey bring so much fun and humor to this story and it was a breath of fresh air.

“Unca Brock likes boys.” She looked especially at Spencer, her little eyes wide and spaghetti sauce decorating her cheeks.

Beside him, Brock chocked on his bread and grabbed his drink.

“Anna Kate!”

The little girl turned those same wide eyes on her mother. “What mommy? Corey said Spencer likes boys and Unca Brock likes boys. They could play together.”

Oh the innocence of children is precious.

Spencer is sexy and strong and very open about his sexuality and he isn’t afraid to let Brock know exactly what he wants, how he wants it, and when he wants. He is sweet and kind and never expects to fall head over heels for Brock because he doesn’t do commitment his main focus is baseball and surely his focus can’t switch to Brock.

Brock is such a wonderful character to read about. He loves his niece and nephew and sister. He is openly gay and only wants to find someone to spend his life with. He doesn’t do the one night thing, he likes commitment. He likes the stability of being able to come home to someone who loves him and someone he loves. He wants his own family someday and after meeting Spencer he tells himself he will enjoy him until it’s over because surely it won’t be forever. But he wants forever with Spencer so much he can taste it and his niece and nephew see it.

“Unca Spencer and Unca Brock sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Unca Spencer with a baby carriage.”

There is hot steamy scenes that will leave your heart beating just a tad bit faster. Have you palms sweaty and clinching your thighs tightly.

--His lover licked him like a lollipop, base to tip over and over, not one millimeter of skin left untouched. – Grand Slam

There was humor, oh dear god, the kids brought so much humor to this story – I knew just about every time they opened their mouths I would giggle. Children and so innocent and the things that popped out of their mouth were priceless.

Not everyone views sexuality the same way Denise, Spencer, and Brock do. Some people have so much hate and judgment inside them that they are pure evil. What happens when Spencer and Brocks path crosses path with evil. JT Cheyenne took real life situations that happen every day around the world and put it into Grand Slam. People are evil, mean, and judge and sadly that will probably never change. Parts that happened in Grand Slam had me fuming and my heart breaking for Brock and tears pricking my eyelids.

When Spencer’s baseball career takes a drastic turn but that same turn meets with evil and hatred will Spencer choose Brock or will he stick with his first love, Baseball, and break Brock’s heart? Will Brock and Spencer find their way and their hearts back to each other?

JT Cheyenne brings us a beautiful story about love, plain a simple. It’s about one person loving another person regardless of their gender. It’s real and it’s beautiful. There is humor, steam, pain, anger, compassion, love, and promise in this book and I am so happy I was able to read it. Great work!

“I want you to stay. I just can’t believe you actually want to.”

My Review:
I bought this for my Kindle right after it first came out on the recommendation of another reader. But along with another 300+ unread books, the odds of me reading it weren't that high...at least not in the near future. But I have found another book blogger, J9 from The Book Vixen, that also reads m/m. Our tastes usually line up... Yesterday (writing this review 5/9 although it won't go up for a couple of weeks) she commented on my Goodreads page that I needed to push this up my pile so I could let her know whether or not she needed to get it. LOL...happy to oblige.

Quick answer....YES, buy it!

This was a good book and for those of you still on the fence about m/m, this is a good starter book. It has sex in it, but it's not too overly graphic like m/m can be. In fact, I rated it spicy...so that's pretty mild for m/m. What is first and foremost in this story is these two guys...and I'm telling you, they are both sweethearts.

Brock is a CPA...he hates baseball, but he loves his niece and nephew so he gets wrangled into taking them to the local AAA baseball game where his nephew catches the record-breaking homerun hit by pitcher, Spencer. After the game, Brock and the kids are taken out back to meet Spencer so he can sign the ball. And this scene with Brock's 4 yo little niece is part of the reason that this book was so good. The kids and their unfiltered dialogue are great! They are the ones responsible for getting these two together and it's awesome!

As far as Spencer goes, he's on the cusp of making it into the Majors. He's breaking records all over and that's his dream. The only thing maybe holding him back is his sexuality. While his local AAA team have been incredibly supportive of this only "out" ball-player, not everyone is so welcoming and open. BUT Spencer isn't willing to hide his sexuality...and his new relationship with Brock just reinforces that. Spencer loves spending time with Brock and isn't willing to give up a second of it.

I loved how open and gung-ho Spencer was about the relationship. He's 100% into Brock and not afraid to show it. On the other hand, Brock is just waiting for the day when Spencer realizes that he's just a boring geek and trying to enjoy their relationship until then. He's sure Brock will eventually dump him when someone better and hotter comes along.

There's a lot that goes into this novel and there's some great action at the end of the book which was completely gripping. Overall, it was a great read. I look forward to checking out more by this author.

This was a number of firsts for me – my first JT Cheyanne book and my first about baseball. Both are something that I will continue to read.

I really enjoyed this book and was hooked on the whole baseball world (being from the UK it’s not something I come across) I loved the imagery of Spencer in his sports kit. Yum!

The story surrounds Spencer Hightower, a minor league baseball player with his eye on the big time of playing for the majors. Brock Kinkaid is a lovable geek who spends his working days number crunching. His dream is to one day have a family but as a gay man with disappointing experiences with past relationships he can see this slipping further away from him. This is why he spends so much time with his sister and her two adorable children Corey and Anna-Kate.

It is through Corey that the two gorgeous gay men are brought together – at a baseball game where Corey catches the ball that Spencer had hit into the crowd. This leads to a photo call and the pair locking lustful eyes on each other. The story then continues with their developing romance and all the misunderstandings and heart wrenching that entails.

I loved the chemistry between the two MCs and found this an easy read to fall into. Spencer surprised me at the dominance he displayed as I thought Brock, being the more serious and mature would fulfil this part. It was nice to see my expectations given a curveball! Spencer is the light to Brock’s dark and the way they interact with each other was a joy to read.

As with all good m/m reads there was some bigotry thrown in and I liked how Spencer handled that. However this also introduced a major bigot and the impact he had on the blossoming romance. It makes my blood boil that people do act like that in real life. Grrr.

Jason was another interference that had an impact on the pair. He wanted Spencer for himself and played on Brock’s insecurities to put a giant boulder in the love flow. What a piece of work he was (although he sounded darn sexy too LOL)

The pace and flow of the read was good and as such I didn't want to put it down. However that was one little irk that just wouldn't sit right with me and that was the behaviour and actions of Anna Kate who at four years old seemed well advanced for what she said and did. It is only because of this that this is a 4 star read. Everything else was fab!

An overall enjoyable read and has lead this English bint to want to read more about baseball. Oh and watch it (those tight pants just do it!)

JT Cheyanne is now on my radar and I shall be watching out for more from her.

I really enjoyed this story! I love baseball and I love stories that revolve around gay men in the baseball profession!

The way Spencer Hightower meets Brock Kincaid and his adorable niece and nephew was definitely fate. I love the build up of the relationship between the boys and I loved the interactions of both men with the kids.

I hated Jason the moment he came into the picture and I knew he was going to be the cause of all the major drama in the middle-end of the book and I'm glad he got what was coming to him.

There were only a couple things that irritated me a little, first of all, try saying Brock's name once in a while. Pet names are okay but not if used so much that you almost forget what the other character's name is.

Second, Anna Kate is a four year old who talks like a two year old. I have a five year old and I have a six and four year old niece. They don't speak like adults, but they definitely speak better than Anna Kate. She spent half the time talking like a kid much older than herself with words that were mispronounced to make her sound younger. In the epilogue she would have been nearly six, if not already six and she was still using baby talk... it didn't make sense to me. At one point she's asking her 'uncas' to get married because hell is made of fire and her mommy says it will be frozen before she ever marries a guy again... that's not the type of thing I imagine coming out of a four year olds mouth!

I thought the story was really well written and the plot wasn't too terribly predictable, I mean, you could kind of tell what was going to happen but it's not such a bad thing and the character's were well developed! Overall, I think I'll definitely read more from this author in the future!

I had high expectations for this book because it combines my 2 favorite things- gay romance and baseball. Well, it did not disappoint me. I loved it.
The only problem I had with the book is something most people probably won't even notice. As I said, I love baseball and I know a lot about it. In the beginning of the book, Spencer meets with the coach of a minor league team associated with the Red Sox, kind of like a job interview. That doesn't really happen. A MiLB manager may meet a player ahead of time to get a feel for him, but in general, MiLB players are acquired and maintained by the office of their Major League affiliate. So someone from the Boston Red Sox office (probably the ass't general manager) would be the one to sign Spencer. Also, because of this, Spencer would not negotiate with Texas himself, unless he was a free agent. Boston Red Sox would take care of that.

It is not my intention to bash a new-ish author, but I am going to be honest.

On the plus side:
- nice cover
- baseball (there are not enough sports romances, so I appreciate the attempt, even if the details didn't always make sense)
- star athlete falling for a normal guy is a trope I like

Dealbreakers:
- overly descriptive, flowery writing
- juvenile misunderstandings
- gay bashing ex machina
- the presence of all the kids in the story felt manipulative, as if the story were geared toward moms who are taking a walk on the m/m wild side

I admit that I'm a picky reader, and much of this is subjective. There are lots of positive reviews of this book, so your mileage may vary.
