Jackson Chase served with the New Zealand special forces for many years, but a mission in Afghanistan leads him into a world of intrigue and betrayal that will put all of his skills to the test.
From a high stakes rescue mission to a worldwide manhunt and ultimately to the potential assassination of a foreign leader, Chase and his team must unravel the knot tied by a spy gone bad.
The action is true to life and hard hitting as Connor Black introduces Jackson Chase, an exciting new character with a quick wit and fierce sense of loyalty and duty.
(Exposure is a novella. At a touch under 30,000 words, it would come to about 120 pages on paper.)
Connor Black is a UX/UI design consultant in the technology sector. He lives with his wife and perfect dog, Gigi, in Manalapan, Florida. They have two sons, both enjoying life in Southern California.
Too many times novellas come up short (yeah, yeah--pretty sad pin). This one doesn't. The main character is just the way I like them. Jackson Chase isn't miserable and flawed. He's a hero with a snarky streak. He's surrounded by some interesting supporting characters, and they're all thrown together with a very decent storyline that's fleshed out enough to satisfy. Read it for what it is--a lite military thriller--and you shouldn't be disappointed. The genre I read most often is the spy/military type. Thor, Silva, Ludlum, etc. This doesn't try to pose as that kind of writing. It is what it is, and that's plenty good enough.
I am so glad I discovered this book! It's a fast-paced, exciting story built around a strong, likable main character, written in clear, confident prose. I can't wait to read book #2.
A good peek into the backstory of Jackson Chase, dual citizen of New Zealand and the US. Born on a boat in international waters while his parents were delivering a yacht, he is at home on land and water. He joined the New Zealand SAS and mangled to not only pass Selection, but he graduated, badged and deployed with the unit in various countries and operations. He asked to be released from his unit in NZ and returned to the US Navy to become a helicopter pilot. Then, the CIA comes calling.......
Boone had been captured .The mission plan was to go in on foot, using call signs Hammer one through five. Jackson still breaking rules, the mission was accomplished. I’d love to know more about Admiral Christie, imagine he has a number of tales to tell about Jackson. Knowing Jackson still breaking rules, before they head to the woodshed. Love this authors stories, they are easy to read, without a lot of military details.
A really good introduction to Jackson Chase. Lots of action.
This book although it was short in length had a lot of action and it held my interest. The hero had a broad background that the author gave to you without slowing the story down. I look forward to reading the next two books in this series soon.
Excellent read, fast action, hard hitting. Keeps you riveted to the book. My congratulations to the author. Only problem is that it leaves You wanting more!!
The debut of indie author Conner Black, introducing character Jackson Chase.
The story centers on Jackson, an unusual character in that, he is a rare dual citizen of the US and New Zealand born in international waters to parents from each country.
He visits the world throughout his childhood during his parent’s travels for their ship building business, gaining an education even the best schools couldn't match.
We catch up with Jackson as a US Air Force pilot in Afghanistan. Due to circumstances he is tasked with flying a spec ops team on a mission against a target he surprisingly is familiar with. The mission becomes a fight for survival when the team has the ultimate betrayal. A betrayal not for ideology or revenge, just simply about money.
We get exposed to how a dual citizen is also a member of both countries military and how during a time of a countries survival, serves as the lynch pin to bring the two together to fulfil a mission when the chips are down.
Being a military thriller we have tons of action and also being a novella we have a fast paced plot line without filler or unrelated story line.
I'm generally not much of a novella fan since, about the time you get into the story its over or some authors take a singular story line and break it up which I hate. Gladly neither of those are the case with this book as it is just long enough that I didn't feel cheated and there is a well-defined ending even though there is a little bit of a hanging ending so the author can continue with the character in other books.
Learning about the author you realize the authenticity he brings to the character from his families linage.
I would have no problem recommending this to any thriller fans
