When the evil you fear is born from within, who will save us…from ourselves? Sometimes our souls hear what our minds and hearts refuse to accept. It will whisper its continuous cadence until we're strong enough to glimpse the truth. But when the soul's whispers morph into screams, we're forced to gaze into the mirrors of time and see ourselves for who we really are. Grappling with her newfound leadership position, Stasia begins to experience a recurring nightmare of murder, as well as curious reveries about a violet-eyed girl who can control the moon. When tragedy grips the Tydes and several important relics are stolen from the Sons of Daimon, Stasia’s Council leaves for the forgotten island of Atlantis. Unfortunately Atlantis harbors its own secrets, and they are all calling to Stasia. As her nightmares become worse and she begins to lose control of her mind, those around her must find a way to reach her…and fast. Olivia Campbell is used to getting what she wants, when she wants it. But destiny never asked Olivia what she wanted. Being Chosen to be a Paladin at birth had not been something she wanted, and she definitely hadn’t wanted her charge to be Anastasia. Unfortunately their irritatingly persistent Atlantean guide, Sebastian, seems to know all about her and the secrets she’s been hiding. As she fights to protect Stasia from an unknown force, Olivia’s own courage and loyalty will be tested in ways she never imagined. Will she be able to tell Stasia the truth before it’s too late for them both?
I am a southern belle at heart with a crazy streak that desperately tries to escape at every opportunity. I love all things nostalgic, rustic, and quirky. I've been told I see the world through rose-colored glasses, but I prefer to think of them as kaleidoscope glasses - swirling and morphing reality into something I can digest (who hasn't pretended those pasty lima beans were really kiwi strawberry jelly beans?).
I am the author of the DAUGHTERS OF THE SEA series, which includes FORSAKEN, AWAKEN, CHOSEN, HEARKEN, PROVEN (2014).I love all books, but really enjoy writing young adult, paranormal romances. I've loved to write for as long as I can remember. My first published work was my poem RED in second grade (you guessed it - it was a poem about the color red - life altering, I know) that won me 5 gold stars and a spot in my elementary school's poetry book. That's when my addiction to the written word officially began. I was the only kid in fifth grade that actually enjoyed diagramming sentences. Go ahead and laugh - its okay.
When I'm not writing I'm making jewelry, painting, drinking sweet tea, watching the discovery channel, or going on random adventures in the mountains of North Carolina with my amazing husband.
Even as the fourth book in the series, this is just as good as the rest of the series. There's something amazingly special about this series that never fails to capture your attention and make you fall in love! You cannot go wrong with this series, once you start, you are hooked!
Are you kidding me right now? This series is still amazing even at the fourth book! I don't think I've loved a whole series the way that I love the Daughters of the Sea books! It's this one amazing book-y dreamy series that every reader wants to read and not want the series to end. In every book, there is nothing that fails to surprise you and throw you into all these twists and turns that you realize it's not just some girly book about awesome heroines that become goddesses and seriously gorgeous guys thrown into the mix.OK, I love that fact in the book (how can you not! *sigh* FINN!)
When we start, we get reacquainted with all the characters that we know and love. I've said in the past with the first book some things that annoyed me with Stasia's friends, but just like Chosen, everything is so much better in that way (review of Forsaken is below). Even though, Chosen was wrapped up perfectly if this was a trilogy, Hearken was not a far stretch from where Chosen left off and it fit perfectly in the original story that if you didn't know that this series was originally supposed to be a trilogy, you wouldn't know the difference.
All the relationships in this book, as well as the characters are all so enjoyable and they make you want to read on and to not forget this series or want it to end....ever :D
This book brings up new challenges that Stasia has to face. But not just with her, there is a whole bunch of other characters who need to face a few things as well. There are literally no words to describe how awesome Finn is. He and Stasia are the perfect couple and it feels so long ago when the series first started and he was just a boy in her *dreams*. I got a little giddy when Finn called her his fiance to his brother! yes, I admit to this!! I'm really starting to fall in love with Olivia. I absolutely love her in this book and I was anxiously anticipating each of her chapters and her struggles with who she is as well as when she needs to tell Stasia about who she really is. Sometimes it's just like when she thinks about needing to tell about her being a Paladin that something else just quickly happens and she just forgets, instead of thinking about it and the right time.
I can't believe what happened with _insert character not naming here_! (no I'm not going to reveal what happened because you just need to read this book/series for yourself :) yes I am cruel, but it is worth it!). I completely didn't expect it to happen and not the way that it did happen as well. It was such of a shock that I had to stop after the chapter finished and had to think about what had just happened.
The battles that happen in the book are so gripping and even though they are fast paced, you can still imagine it all while you're reading it! There is nothing about this book that is missing or that it's lagging.
I love what Kristen does, that when a character dies, the characters actually grieve!! The amount of books that I've read and the characters don't grieve for someone or something that they've lost brings the book down for me, because you seem to lose a bit of a connection when they don't react the way that you do. And I have to say a big thank you Kristen for this :) (this is a good thing but in a bad situation, if that makes sense. It's a love-hate) There isn't much else that I can say about this book that I haven't already said about the other books in the series. There isn't enough words to describe how addictive this series and Hearken is.
Oh what I would do for (temporary) trace tattoos! Kristen, hint hint swag ;)
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely love this series and this book may be the best yet! Olivia is so complex and I adored getting to know her better. The Sebastian twist was brilliant, and I love Fallon. This is an amazing series and I can't wait to read more!!
I have no words... Totally shocked! Loved this book! Kristen Day did it again! I love the characters in this series!! Stasia got a little annoying in this installment (I mean I get she was all zombie'd out but still!) but Finn was as sexy and smoldering as usual. I am so happy we got to read from Olivia's POV. LOVE HER! Always have! And Phwoar! Sebastian! Yummy! Steamy scenes with those two! Love that she went there! I was totally surprised! Five stars again! I cannot wait to read the next book!! Thank goodness she didn't leave us with that cliff hanger! Without that sneak peak prologue I would've been desperate!

Favorite Lines “For the first time in history, the heavy hand of fate had gifted a Chosen one her destiny months before the age of reckoning. Selene knew this could only mean one thing. She would need a much larger force to counter fate’s transgressions. And if fate wanted a war…a war Selene would deliver.”
“Men…” Unaware of our private exchange, Amphitrite grinned down at me in an attempt to lighten the mood. “You can’t live with ‘em, you can’t burn ‘em at the stake.”
“When he finally opened his eyes, a lone tear trickled down his cheek and he searched my silent eyes for answers. I had no answers. I had no magical cure. Death had been something I’d almost welcomed for many years when I was younger.”
“There was no reason for you to darken your soul for me. I couldn’t let that happen. You mean too much to me.”
“You will quickly learn that a warrior must not only protect people from their enemies, but must also protect people from themselves…when”
“You think one bloody moon is going to defeat Stasia?”
OMG can Stacia ever have just a peaceful time? Ever!?!? That girl has been put through the ringer so many times my heart breaks for her! She doesn't give up though. She is determined to be the best Sea Goddess she can be! In this story though he "so called family" (I use that term loosely) has decided to use her body as a vessel to do some pretty horrible things! Selene is Stacia's grandmother and she hates her for no other reason the "diluting" her precious bloodline. She's a moon goddess and when her son (Stacia's father) married a Sea Goddess she considered that a betrayal of her son. She's a crazy woman who is so thirsty for power she will do ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING to get the power she believes is hers! Did I mention that Finn is hotter than ever! (Shivers) I really enjoyed this one because it showed is a side of a another characters that I was so wrong about! Olivia has always come across as well.... Mean! I was so wrong about her though! She's an amazing person and has nothing but protecting Stacia on her mind. She's her Paladin. Her protector her warrior and she's amazing at it! As with ever book in this series I was floored but the last line and searching for the next page! The author gets me every time! I can't wait to see what happens next! I've gotten quite a few of my daughters friends needing to know what happens next! I couldn't wait to have my daughter text them and tell them it was a amazing ride and it's still not over yet!
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review (GHB)
Now this book picked up relatively where we left off in the ending of book 3. I am so very glad it did too. I so missed Finn and Stasia! I loved the new twist in this book with Atlantis. And the action in this book once again will keep you guessing at what will happen. I have to admit that while I love Finn and Stasia there really is not a single character in this book that I don't feel a bond with. I love how easy it is to make these characters your close personal friends. Kristen Day did an AMAZING job on character creation and I must applaud her for the ability to suck me in with such ease.
I loved the new characters in this book, and I LOVE ATLANTIS!!! I want to live there! I'd even wear white clothes for the rest of my life if I could! Now I have to say that once again this book is filled with tragedy, and adventure and reveries and all sorts of magic that will have your mind in a boggle!
Now I must give my two cents on the newest addition to this series, Sebastian. First I love the name, I wanted that name for my son but since I wasn't lucky enough to have boys I have to just get my fill of Sebastian in other methods. And this Sebastian just does not disappoint. First of all he is HOT! Then add to that is he is amazing, but he is hiding something, you just don't know what it is. And when you find out, boy oh boy will your head spin as you shout out I KNEW IT!!!
Once again the fight scenes are of epic proportion. And it is one heck of a roller coaster ride. And the ending will have you screaming for the next book. *hint hint* I'm sadly not known for my patience but at least I'm a polite stalker.
One other side note, there is a sex scene, not a huge one so I wouldn't worry too much about the younger teens reading this book.
So are you still here? What the heck are you waiting for? Go grab yourself this series, I HIGHLY Recommend it!!! Go on get outta here already!!! Just follow the links and buy yourselves this fabulous and entertaining and breathtaking and all encompassing series!!!
Kristen Day kudos for yet another successful story that kept me sucked in until the very end and left me craving more!
Details/Disclaimer: Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
I got this book from the author, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side. Firstly I would like to thank the author for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this book. I got this book from LoP under the read to review theme. Thanks Carrie (moderator of LoP) for this wonderful opportunity!!! Well, I loved this series; there is uniqueness in each book that kept me hooked in. I simply loved this fourth sequel among all the 4 books and the romance as well as the action is so intense in here that I couldn’t put it down for once. The writing style of the author is great and though I read her books for the first time but there is a comfy feeling to it which I really enjoyed. The characters are great but I didn’t quite like Stasia, something felt off about her. Finn was great and I loved him totally. The action scenes are great and the passionate romance gave me a tingly feeling when I read this book. Overall a great read that I loved and now I’m looking forward to book 5 which will sadly mark the end of this series. Go grab your copy now and enjoy this awesome series right now, you wouldn’t want to miss this. Enjoy guys!!!
This book certainly deserves 5 stars and may, possibly, be the best of the series so far. I was instantly hooked when I read the first few pages of Forsaken and I have stayed hooked through to the end of this one, book 4. I can't wait for the next!
Every character in this series is well written and draws you to them. This book gave us the opportunity to find out more about Olivia which was great and introduced more humour. It was even better when Olivia also 'found' Sebastian. Move over Finn you have to share your space with another HOT HANDSOME perfect boyfriend. Sebastian was great!
This was a great read! I seriously couldn't put it down, every time I thought 'just another ten minutes' the plot escalated and another hour passed.
I laughed, I cried and I even shouted at the characters - if that doesn't make a great book, what does?
Holy cow, what an "ending"! Now I have to wait for Proven! I absolutely loved reading from Olivia's point of view, and Finn's. I am in love with Sebastian, he is funny and adorably cute! I don't want this series to ever end. It's so nice to have found an author that encompasses everything I look for in a book. Well written, action packed, unpredictable, whitty conversations or remarks that have me laughing out loud, sad moments that make me cry, and of course a tiny bit of sensual romance. I am in love with this story and all it's characters. Except the villains. I want to kill them. Keep up the great work Kristen. The world will bow to your mighty pen skills. :)
I'm just going to go right ahead and say it - I loved this book. I don't think I've ever read a novel where it was based around Sea Gods and Goddesses - I mean, I know about Percy Jackson and the like, but they talk about all the Greek gods in general - with Forsaken, Day zones in on just the sea gods and their powers, which I really found intriguing The plot was thick, the background was set in stone, and the writing style was captivating - it was everything I look for in a good read.
To summarize the synopsis, Forsaken follows Hannah as she is whisked away to The House of Lorelei, which actually turns out to be a school full of teenagers who are demi-gods, descended from the sea gods. But although Hannah fits in better on the island than back home, there's still something strange about her - strange things that will put not just her in danger, but also everyone she cares about.
Firstly, I've got to say that I loved how Day concentrated on just sea gods - as I said earlier, I've read books about the Greek gods in general, but as a reader, you don't really understand the gods and the powers as thoroughly. In Forsaken, Day doesn't just tell a story, but educates the reader on Greek mythology, and I found the story much easier to follow when I knew which god had what power, and so on.
Secondly, I loved each of the characters. Hannah was incredibly likeable, and I found that despite the mythical situation, I could relate myself to her insecurities. I also liked her friends - sure, Phoebe grated on me gradually, but I suppose we all have a friend like that. I think the thing I liked best about the characterization of the friendship group was how relateable Day made them - that despite the fact that what was happening to them would no way happen to us, the reader is still able to get under their skin and get to know them.
The plot was fantastic - something was always happening, which kept me on my toes. The constant cliffhangers from chapter to chapter meant that I just couldn't put it down - I always wanted to know what would happen next, which I guess is a problem now that I've finished it. But luckily, the next instalment is coming out next month - thank goodness!
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this read. As I said earlier in the review, it was just everything you want in a good read, and Day's writing just had me hooked all the way through. If you haven't read this novel, you really must - it's so light and easy that you just fall into it. It's a fantastic novel, and Day is incredibly talented - she is an author I am definitely going to look out for!
Wow Kristen Day has done it again with the fourth book of the Daughters of the Sea Series. In Hearken we see Stasia having bad nightmares and ending up on the beach and they are getting worse.
As a Sea Goddess she has to choose her council. One being Olivia, who none of the council really like her . Olivia is keeping a secret from Stasia though, she is a Paladin and she is there to protect Stasia, not being an annoying hang on that Stasia thinks.
Tragedy strikes in an unexpected accident where we lose a strong character and I think anyone reading will feel the loss, especially if they have followed the series.
Stasia and the council travel to Atlantis for the games that are about to happen. Stasia is having more dreams but now she seems to be turning evil with it. What is happening to her?
Finn is still as lovely as ever and his love for Stasia is every increasing but he has to find out who has stolen the relics that could pose disaster. What will he do when he finds out who stole them?
I loved this book as not only was it about Finn and Stasia but it was told by three different people, the third being Olivia, and I really started to like her. I was telling her to give Sebastian (a new character, from Atlantis and hot) a chance, it could all work out but she seemed to lower her heart walls only to take to steps back and build those walls again.
There is a lot going on in this book, action, love, deception, and giant butterflies!
Very well written as always and I was left wanting more of Stasia, Finn and the group.
You don't realize how much you miss someone until you start reading about them again and boy did I miss all the sexiness that is Finn, "looking for me?" The voice echoed in my thoughts at the exact moment I tumbled hard into something solid. A very amused Finn appeared out of nowhere and pulled me close as he chuckled darkly." And he still has it bad for his girl, "I' build you a whole new neighborhood of houses," he declared out loud, and everything around us faded away." And you don't say anything about the animal he turns into he defends his shark-ness with all his might, "nothing about a shark is sweet," he defended his animal affinity, and I squealed as he swept me up in his arms and carried me away." Sloan, I think I love him just as much as I do Finn, "damn, dude." He shook his head. "You're one luck bas**** - I hear she could have whoever she wants. And she chose...you." He looked me up and down; unimpressed. "On the other hand, I have heard you have a big -" Finn no one messes with what's his and that mainly includes his woman, Stasia, "and if anybody so much as look at her wrong, I'll slaughter em'." I can't wait for the next book, Kristen and I had some words when I got finished reading this one let me tell you what.
~*I received a copy of this book from the Lovers of Paranormal Goodreads group in exchange for an honest review.*~
Amazing! I can't believe this series! It has totally blown me away and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love how Anastasia has developed throughout the series, but Olivia has grown and changed so much that she's hardly recognizable. Overall, this series is now a favorite and I am just floored. I can't wait for Proven because I can't get enough. The relationship between Finn and Anastasia is intense and swoonworthy and Kristen Day's character-building is out of this world.
(Note: I will have a better review up in a few days. It's so hard to gather my thoughts when I am not feeling well.)
I am not a fan of books with multiple points of view. I was much happier with the first couple of books that were only from Stasia's perspective. This one wad too much for me and the author apparently, considering one chapter started as Stasia and ended as Olivia after switching halfway through with no warning. The perspectives was only the beginning of the disappointment, however, because Stasia was completely unrecognizable throughout the majority of this book. It became more a book about Olivia and Sebastian, which was okay, just not really what I expected. I will continue because there is only one more book, with the hope that the author returns to what was working at the beginning.
Despite Anastasia’s recurring nightmares and the fact a couple of ancient relics have been stolen right under the Sons of Daimon’s noses, the show must go on and Stasia and her newly formed Council travel to the mythical island of Atlantis. There, Stasia’s newly appointed Warrior Olivia must learn about Stasia’s protection the hard way, even if it means suffering a broken heart along the way.
Where do I begin? In keeping with the series, this book continues the saga with beautiful horses and the mysterious Atlantis. Yes, this series focuses on aspects of Greek mythology and this book is no different. We travel to Atlantis. That’s right - Atlantis! Yeah, I wanted to fist bump the author, too! Atlantis is totally real. We get to see what really happened to Atlantis. Yay! There are new powers which mean all new kinds of manipulation and a whole other basket of problems. And just when you think you know all there is to know, we get slapped in the face with a huge twist. I never saw this twist coming. Not even once. I had my own theories but the truth was shocking. That totally rocked – their world and mine!
As a fan of romance in all forms, even paranormal romance, I was delighted at the love aspects of this book. After three books, Stasia and Finn are becoming an old married couple. There is nothing wrong with old, married couples. However, when things get stale, you add twists or new partners. And this book delivered on that front. There is definitely some new love spices being sprinkled here making this become nice and juicy.
This book reminded me of the first book in this series. I expected to jump right in and be off and running. The writing is mechanically poetic and the story turned in a direction that necessitated some building. Both combined together to form a slow unfolding of events. Then, it just takes off. Action plus funny, smart dialogue with many instances of witty quipping and back-and-forth kept me entertained. It becomes one of those books where you order pizza or takeout because you hate to put the book down for the hour it would take to cook a nice, healthy meal. It is hard to get into at first, but stick with it. It gets better. Much better.
I also forgot about the changing points of view. I am one of those readers who do not pay attention to chapter titles. This author uses chapter titles to inform the reader from whose point of view the story will be told. I do tend to get annoyed by changing points of view and when reading I do sometimes find myself saying, “Oh, pick a narrator already!” Here is one of the few instances where the point of view is done well. I can say that each point of view advances the plot. There is a story to be told and the author has picked the right person at the right moment each time to progress the story. I was only bothered in the beginning and mainly because I forgot the author’s style. So, I say, well done!
This is not a stand-alone and I am not sure it is meant to be either. Since it has been a couple of months since I have read one of the books in this series I realized how much I had forgotten. Even though I had read the other books I could not remember details about the mythology, certain characters and their respective factions. I found myself saying, “Wait, what’s an Aura again?” On the one hand, it’s nice not to have a bunch of annoying repetitious explanations. Then, again, a quick one-line reminder would have been nice. This would probably be my suggestion for the author.
And the one thing I truly hated: the cliffhanger of an ending, of course. The book stops right after the climax wraps up. It is lacking a true warm and fuzzy ending. There is no time for the heroes to even lick their wounds. Of course, there is a reason for this: Book 5. We are promised Book 5: Proven in 2014. So, there’s that.
Due to a sex scene or two, this is not really suited for young adults. A quick read, I wholeheartedly recommend this for adults, especially those who love paranormal romance novels.

Forsaken tells the absolutely enchanting story of a young girl with a terrible past and terrifying destiny. 17 year old Hannah, who had been found on the porch of a police station at an age of only about 8 months and gone through many foster homes - not all of them good places - has no sense of belonging to her adoptive family and a thick wall build around her heart, not letting herself to get attached to anyone. Having a lot of extremely vivid nightmares, often circling around a good looking stranger with tantalizing blue eyes, and not fitting in to her surroundings has seen a lot of therapists before. But after collapsing at a very elaborate party she went with her adoptive parents and sister and having the most real and terrifying dream she's sent yet to another therapist. The strange meeting ends with Hannah having to see another therapist and finally being sent to a faraway boarding school for "people like her". With a strong sense this might well translate to "crazy people" Hannah climbs the plane bringing her to her new school only a few days later and decides she might just as well take her chances and start a new life. Absolutely stunned by the big campus located on a beautiful island Hannah decides that a new life calls for a new name and during the paperwork is done she simply changes her first name to Anastasia, the name she'd heard in so many of her dreams. Introduced to her new roommates, a comforting sense of belonging settles on (Ana)Stasia that she had never known before. On her first weekend on campus Stasia encounters the blue eyed stranger she's seen in so many dreams, as he saves her from drowning in the sea just to vanish as soon as she's save. As if that wasn't enough to think about she also learns that the school is not for psychos, but exclusively for descendants of seagods and -goddesses: Tydes, Sirens, Tritons and Sons of Daimon. All there learning to control their special abilities before they turn 18 - the age all descendants reach their full powers.
Trying to come to grips with the knowledge of being a Tyde, fitting in to a new school, making new friends (and enemies) and being confronted with the quite literally man of her dreams, Stasia dives head first into her new life, unaware of the dangers and mysterious destiny that await her.
Kristen Days first book is nothing short of a masterpiece! Her detailed style immediately lets you see Stasias world right before your inner eye with all of its beauty, but still never once looses the thread leading you to read on and on, never once stopping the excitement building within the reader on every page.
After I started reading I just couldn't put the book down for a whole night straight, only slightly over the middle of the story dawn surprised me and made me take a break, just to start reading again at (a very late) breakfast and unable to put the book down until I had finished it. I practically devoured it! All of the descriptions are so detailed but never too much, the worldbuilding is just perfect and all of the characters, even the supposedly "evil" ones have a quality of depth to them. No person in this book is just good or bad, but they all seem to have a story that made them who they are, even though the reader doesn't get to know most of them - there is no black and white and a lot of space for some surprising turns. Only the lovestory between Stasia and Finn seemed to enroll too quickly, but as she had known him from her dreams for years by the day they first met, even that made sense. Plus I have a strong feeling that there is something more to be revealed about that in the sequel, if I had to guess I'd say they are just destined to be together and would - for once - not even find that absurd or cheesy.
I can recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy novel and strong characters that just won't fit into a chliché (other than being good looking that is ^^.
This was a cross between Harry Potter "You're a wizard Harry" and Percy Jackson "You're a Demi-God" or in Hannah/Stasia's case Sea Goddess. Hannah was abandoned by her Sea Goddess mother and raised in the foster care system, before finding her way into a rich family who could afford therapists to help her deal with her traumatic past, which is ultimately how she had her "you're a wizard Harry" moment... but instead of being told what she was, she was shipped off to some strange island to be with "people like her". Where she finds out she is descended from the Sea Gods and Goddesses and has abilities, but no-one really tells her anything to begin with and just sort of throws her in at the deep end.
Day has done a magnificent job with the story telling and imagery. Its easy to imagine yourself in Stasia's place, seeing the things she describes, without being overwhelmed by the descriptive text. I'm not gonna lie, the abandoned baby on the Police station steps at the beginning has been done many a time, but Day still manages to make it feel different and pull the reader in. From the first moment we see Hannah I wanted to learn more.. I also wanted to know why she didn't up and punch her stuck up adopted sister, especially since she proves later she IS capable of sticking up for herself. For me, I felt this book moved at a perfect pace, I struggled to put this down and read it in (almost) one sitting.. I did have to stop to cook dinner.
There were a few things that irked me with this book... Hannah never questions why people give her the funny look when she changes her name to Anastasia, then the fact that she did change it but then asked people to shorten it to Stasia?? She never really questions Finn about the 'dream moments' she shares with him, except in the dream moment but she has so many unanswered questions about them (I know I do). Kira is her mentor and they have this insta-connection, despite the fact that they only really spend a couple of hours together when she first arrives on the island. There was a couple of issues towards the end of the book and it's really hard to go into details without spoilers but... it took Stasia and friends 2 nights to get to where they needed to be, but the antagonists appeared to get there much quicker?, and then only Stasia could get in because the others weren't worthy.... yet the antagonists were?
Yes there are questions left unanswered, but this isn't the only book in the series. We cant expect Day to wrap everything up in a neat little ball, what would make the readers comeback for more? This is my first book written by Kristen Day and it wont be my last.. I am very keen to see how Stasia's story turns out.
*I received these books from the author in exchange for an honest review. I read all four books back to back so I consolidated it into one review*
Ms. Day has woven together a wonderful combination of endearing characters and intriguing plotlines to create The Daughters of the Sea, a five book series that will wrap up with the final book expected to be released in 2014. These are not standalone novels and should be read in order since each continues where the last left off.
I love mythology, and was drawn to the plot like a moth to flame. I guess it makes sense that they'd need an entire school to handle the offspring of the Nereids. Those sea nymphs always had a reputation of being a tad promiscuous. I also found it interesting that the offspring of Charon attended the school. For some reason I didn't think he'd find much time to...well, you know.
This series is driven by the characters. There are so many intriguing people in these books. Of course I loved main character Stasia. She was amazing in so many ways. I loved tagging along as she discovered and tried to master all of her many powers. Romantic interest Finn is that dark, brooding, secret keeping kind of guy. He'd do anything for Stasia, except reveal secrets that she probably should know. As far as secondary characters go, I really liked Carmen and Olivia. Both had strong personalities that made them stand out from the others. I'd also like to give a nod to Sebastian from book 4. His pursuit of Olivia was quite fun to read.
The novels were full of twists and turns, mystery and suspense. Awaken, book 2 in the series was definitely the darkest of the lot. Chosen, book 3, ended in a way that left me reeling. For some reason, I was expecting Hearken to be the final book in the series when I started it. Though, after finishing these four books, I'm not ready to part ways with Stasia and Finn yet, so I'm glad there will be another book.
There are some mild sexual situations and a bit of mature language, but nothing that would keep me from recommending this series to mature teen readers. If you like mythology based urban fantasy with a sweeping romance and amazing characters, be sure to add Forsaken, Awaken, Chosen & Hearken to your to-read list.
I received a copy of this book free of charge from the author and the goodreads group in exchange for an honest review.
This series is one of those that make me sad when I come to the end of the latest installment! I thoroughly enjoyed all 4 books so far and I can't wait until the next one is done.
This book, Hearken, lets us really get to know Olivia. It took me a bit of time to like her through the series but after reading this one, I do. I understand her now. It was interesting seeing another side to Anastasia than what we've come to expect, in a good way. Kristen Day wasn't afraid to take the characters in a wonderful direction that many people would've been afraid of. That just makes me love her work even more! Thank you for the opportunity to read your books!
*I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.* At first i was skeptical when i heard about a fourth book because i though the third book ended pretty well, but Kristen Day managed to write another amazing story. the the plot was perfect. I really connected with all the characters including the new ones, and my God are there a lot of shockers in this book. My jaw dropped when i found out Sebastian was Anastasia's older brother. And Olivia's big secret was shocker. It was rally hard for me to put this book down, and Finn was the very sexy book boy friend i remembered. In conclusion this book is another must read from Kristen Day.
Stunning imagery and the development of more complex characters makes this my favorite book yet in the series! Olivia has become my favorite character in the series. I know - I'm supposed to like Stasia the best - but Olivia is my favorite because she is snarky and has a razor sharp wit. She can flay you with words or dazzle you with her brilliance, but deep down her heart is big enough to move mountains. Sebastian is super yummy, and his amazing ancestry had me picking my jaw up off the floor. Didn't see that one coming! Selene is just evil...can someone take care of her already? Love this story!! Recommend for readers 17+.

This book I was just too good! As soon as I got it from the author I started reading and couldn't stop until I reached the end. Usually when the narration of the story is split between two different characters I end up skipping on of the narrations because I find it too repetitive or I just couldn't wait for the next part. I felt that the author in Hearken was able to efficiently split the narration so that each part was exciting and relevant to the plot line. The story was full of surprises. I loved all the scenes that involved Finn and Stacia! They were so sweet together. I'm looking forward to book 5 of this series!
In this installment we really get to see a whole new side to Stasia and unfortunately less of Finn. There is something different going on with this one. Kristen Day put a new twist to the story with this one adding to the reveries that Stasia has.
Again I loved it. There was adventure. Love. Magic. And it kept me on the edge of my seat. You really never know what is going to happen in a Kristen Day book.

This book is by far my favorite. At first I was mad that the author killed Willow. She is my fave. character of all times. Then as the story went on I got to really know Olivia. I hope the author does this for the other characters. I would really like to get to know the other main characters besides Anastasia. I am looking forward to the next book.

I have love Kristen Day since her first book! The Daughter of Sea Series is by far one of my favorites!
I love that we see so much of Olivia and learn more about her. In the other books, she popped in, but you knew that more was going on there. Then there is Sebastian! Oh, that boy *swoon*!!
Oh, and lets not forget the surprise twists and turns that only Kristen Day can write!!!
Only twice in my life have I finished a series and had actual withdrawals. First was the Harry Potter books and then the Twilight saga. I read a LOT of series. I also read a lot about the sea and it's creatures and anything connected to them. I have fallen in love with the Daughters Of the Sea series. The characters are incredible and the story is addictive. Finn is my dream guy and Stasia is who I wanna' be when I grow up :D I cannot WAIT till Proven is ready!
I started reading this in May, then forgot all about it! (pls don't ask how because I have no idea) Once I remembered that I had this on my kindle, I made short work of reading it all.
The different POVs was refreshing and not at all confusing. I was pleased to see that the next book will be released on the eighth. I've pre-oredered, and looking forward to being one of the first to read it!
The fourth installment in this series does not disappoint. The books just keep getting better and better. This book caused me a whirlwind of emotions. I love the addition of Fallon and "Sebastian" and a few others. The other also shows development of supporting characters, by switching the point-of-view throughout the book. I can't recommend this series enough. Kristen Day is a superb author who has not received enough attention!
I always hoped there would be more to Olivia than the snotty slutty classmate. She seems to mature a lot in this book. She learns more about herself and her destiny. Sebastian is more than he seems and Finn and Olivia are concerned. Stasia gains far more family than she needs in this installment. Cliffhanger ending makes the wait for Eventide seem that much longer
It was a very nice series and we got to see others point of view which was great I like Olivia soo much I love her personality and how she can go beyond the line o protect Stasia and I'm starting to like Sebastian also, I need the next book as soon as possible!!!
A little slow in some parts, kinda mad that Stasia is always low key weak. I wanted her to be bad ass. Glad Olivia is and I enjoyed her love story so much. Can't wait for the next book. I loved imagining Atlantis
