This has some good concepts, but now that it is 10 years old could use an update. Unfortunately the examples given in some parts (Donald Trump for example) have taken on a whole different meaning, and Steve Jobs has become a bit of a "easy out" for leadership books wanting to describe an inspirational leader. I did like that the book goes trough 7 "simple secrets" and then in part 2 of the book takes us through real case studies of how these apply.
Worth a listen, and hopefully will be updated soon.
If I had read this book back in 2008, I might have really enjoyed it. Instead, I read this book in 2025 (after it sat on my to-read list for over a decade), and it feels very dated. I’m sure that the 7 super simple secrets still work for leaders in business (or even for selling yourself in a job interview), but it’s hard to take it seriously with many dates pop culture references (I’m old, I still got them all) and holding up Donald Trump numerous times as a business success. 🫠
Great book! For those who complain about the examples of Donald Trump need to get over it. I'm not a big fan of him, but I'm sure most of those who speak against him and his name being mentioned in this book now, would have agreed back then when he wasn't running against the liberal agendas.
I liked this book and enjoyed all the inspirational stories the author shared. I will read other books by this author. The 7 secrets are as follows: 1. Ignite your enthusiasm 2. Navigate the way 3. Sell the benefit 4. Paint a picture 5. Invite participation 6. Reinforce an optimistic outlook 7. Encourage their potential
I learned much from this book that I hope to be able to use in my life and career.
