When you grab a tiger by the tail, sometimes he bites back.

Chicagoland Shifters, Book 2

Veterinary trauma surgeon and animal empath Sasha Soskoff has found everything he ever wanted with his new partners Neal, Steve and Carlos. Life feels as safe and secure as it can be among a group of ex-Marine tiger shifters. Until a homeless man is found, gruesomely mauled and murdered, near Neal’s BDSM club.

When it’s determined a rogue tiger did the deed, the jaguars’ accusing eyes turn toward Sasha’s lovers. The precarious balance of peace tips dangerously toward war.

Neal knows damned well none of his tigers committed the crime. Someone must be in Chicago without his knowledge or permission, and they’d better find him fast before uncertainty and conflict rip the tight-knit band apart from the inside.

As Sasha struggles to heal the stress fractures forming among his tiger family, he begins to wonder if his dreams of a home, and love, were too good to be true. And it’s precisely that moment the killer strikes at the heart of the tiger clan—Sasha himself.

This continuing story contains more hot man-on-man and men-on-more-men ménage action than you can shake a cat at.

If you read book one in this series or, by any chance, read my review of book one, then you already know that I thought it was hot, hot, hot. So, naturally, I was super excited about being able to get my hands on book two. I was thrilled to be back with the guys at The Factory, ready to see some more yummy BDSM scenes with Neal, Sasha, Steve, and Carlos, eagerly anticipating all that free flowing testosterone and I knew I was in for an action/adventure when these tigers got going. I was also positive that the writing style and characterizations would be over the top excellent.

Sasha is so ready to settle into life with his new shifter veterinary clinic, his men, and the club, especially after the debacle with the Russian mob in the last book. Of course Sasha isn't about to be allowed to have that and when homeless men begin to appear having obviously been mauled and killed by a tiger it's up to Neal, Sasha, and the rest of the guys to get answers. It doesn't help that these killings have the jaguars up in arms convinced it's one of Neal's tigers and wanting to send the tigers packing. Just to be magnanimous, though, even if the jaguars defeat the tigers and send them away from Chicago, they want Sasha to stay. Not likely!

A review by The Blogger Girls.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Burning Bright, and this one picks up right where that left off. Sasha and the guys are adjusting to their relationship, though Neal (the alpha of the tigers) and Sasha seem to share the strongest bond. Sasha still has to explain or reinforce the mechanics of his relationship with some of the other shifters, but he is quick to make it clear that poly does not mean promiscuous. These guys are committed to each other, with the exception of Carlos, who is bi and no willing to give up his time with women. But they are all on the same page with this, at least until some things are brought to light later on in the story.

While the relationship seems like the main theme here, it really isn’t. Sasha is still struggling with trying to find a place with his clinic and being helpful to the tigers, as well as the jaguar clan. The issue with the bears from the last book has been cleared up, but there are some new problems at hand with a rogue tiger shifter on the loose. Much time is spent trying to catch the rogue before he does too much damage while keeping the peace among the other clans in the area.

I really like this series. It is refreshing to read about different species of shifters, and this is full of them. There is also the element of magic where Sasha is concerned, as he is a Guardian and animal emphath. He is able to sense the shifters animals, and while he seems the weakest member of the team, he has quite a lot to offer. Mostly everyone seems to respect him and his abilities, even if he is different and not able to shift forms like most of the others. Not everyone is a shifter though, as there are a few humans on staff as well.

Speaking of some of the other characters, there are a few I would love to read more about. Most notably are TJ and Mitch. I love TJ’s somewhat broken character. The poor tiger shifter continues to be working through some heavy issues with his tiger, as well as his sexuality. And Mitch is a great character as well. He plays a bigger role in this story, but I think he has more to tell as well. There are a few others, but these two stood out for me, and I’d really like to see more where they are concerned.

There isn’t a ton of sex in this story, but what is there is really hot. Neal is the big dom in this relationship. Steve is a little of both, though not as submissive as Sasha. Their sessions are well done and always caring and sweet. There isn’t anything too heavy with regards to the BDSM, as it mostly consists of bondage and control. It really adds a nice touch to the relationship, and you can really tell these guys care for each other even though their relationship is fairly new. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a different kind of shifter story who isn’t put off my more than one partner, as this one is very well done.

First, it is a m/m/m+ book. If poly is REALLY not your thing, then you might want to avoid. Three of them are in a very committed relationship. 2nd, if you haven't read the 1st book, I wouldn't read this one yet. It is the 2nd in a series about the same main characters. Its focus has not moved onto another relationship in the same world.

All the rest: There were some editing issues nothing too major for me, but I am typically a relatively laid back reader ;o) I loved the world the authors created. I would have liked a little more explanation on how a human can be changed; other than it can only be done by a hereditary shifter. That was an issue in the 1st book too. There were moments Sasha did seem TSTL (Too Stupid Too Live), which again was another issue some had with the 1st. Personally, I think he was just being a stupid male. One that was tired of being treated as weak. I have met plenty of those in "real life"; ones that think they are invincible. Definitely at times "eye roll" inducing, but not what I would consider a flaw in the book. There were some other minor issues, but overall it didn't interfere with my enjoyment of the book. It was a hot m/m/m story with both sex and adventure. There are some light BDSM themes. Nothing I feel would cause discomfort except for possibly those with the most opposed sensitivity. Taking in the above considerations, I think it's a nice bit of escapism especially for those who love shifter stories.

I enjoyed this book; however, you really need to read the first book in the series or you will be a little lost on all the characters as that is where they were introduced. It's a m/m/m but it's not all sex - there is an actual plot, plus some humor too. I hope the authors continue writing more in this series, there certainly are enough characters in the story to continue it for years...

The 3rd book (and last one out so far although room for more) is harder to find - search for the exact name, I got it on iTunes.

It was fine reading material. Story plot is complex and reading goes fast.
