Shel Silverstein was the author-artist of many beloved books of prose and poetry. He was a cartoonist, playwright, poet, performer, recording artist, and Grammy-winning, Oscar-nominated songwriter.

Shel Silverstein will perhaps always be best loved for his extraordinary books. Shel’s books are now published in more than 47 different languages. The last book that was published before his death in 1999 was Falling Up

The poems in this book are in both English and Persian. My favorite ones are:

*The dirtiest man in the world

*Rain:
I opened my eyes
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
And flawed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the slishity-slosh of the rain in my head.
I step very softly,
I walk very slow,
I can't do a handstand
I might overflow,
So pardon the wild crazy thing I just said,
I'm just not the same since there's rain in my head.

*Tell me:
Tell me I'm clever
Tell me I'm kind,
Tell me talented,
Tell me cute,
Tell me I'm sensitive,
Graceful and wise,
Tell me I'm perfect
But tell me the truth!

*Colors:
My skin is kind of sort of brownish
Pinkish yellowish white.
My eyes are greyish bluish green,
But I'm told they look orange in the night.
My hair is reddish blondish brown,
But it's silver when it's wet.
And all the colors I am inside
Have not been invented yet.

*Reflection:
Each time I see the upside-down man
standing in the water,
I look at him and start to laugh,
Although I shouldn't oughter.
For maybe in another world
Another time
Another town,
Maybe HE is right side up
And I'm upside down.

پنج ستاره به شل سیلوراستاین هنرمند و منفی ده ستاره به ناشر بی‌هنر و سودجو.
سیلوراستاین کتابی به این نام ندارد، بلکه ناشر ایرانی شعرها را از کتاب‌های مختلف برداشته و برای خودش کتاب جدید ساخته. در هر صفحه ۳ یا ۴ سطر از شعر را با خط درشت چاپ کرده تا حجم کتاب را به ۱۴۴ صفحه برساند. حتی بعضی نقاشی‌ها با شعر همخوانی ندارند یا ناقص درج شده‌اند. این کتاب خیانت به سیلوراستاین است و نسخه‌ی چاپی آن خیانت به محیط زیست هم هست.
