Racquel was once uniquely unwelcome, an outcast in both the human and Shadow worlds. In desperation, the Shadows—the loose alliance of Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Shape Shifters and Faeries—turned to Racquel for help against the sorceress Cerelia, who threatened all Shadows.
Now that Racquel has protected the Shadows by defeating Cerelia, it seems like things are picking up. Racquel is ready to challenge the Shadows’ Ruling Council on the injustice of the laws that made her and her family outcasts among the Shadows, and which is causing suffering among her friends.
Racquel has little time to enjoy her victory. Micah, an innocent subjected to experiments by Cerelia and now the only other person in the world like Racquel, is summoned to appear before the Ruling Council to be examined. The Council has already warned that if Micah is deemed to be “unclean” and a threat to the Shadows, he will be executed.
And there are agendas hidden in agendas, as well. A secret faction wants to challenge Racquel, who they still see as being an unclean creature due to her mixed-Shadow heritage. Worse still, the mysterious prophecy made by Kaya, queen of the Fay, is about to become true, and Racquel is about to be faced with her deepest fear: that she is still unwelcome in the world. Betrayed trust and a new danger to the Shadow world are waiting for Racquel, and in the end, she may have to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to save the world and her friends from destruction.
Brandy Nacole is a writer of paranormal suspense and mystery. She's penned the bestselling novel DEEP IN THE HOLLOW, THE SHADOW WORLD TRILOGY and MURDER IS A DEBATE.
She loves keeping readers on the edge of their seats as that's where she likes to stay. Her favorite pastimes are reading, writing, exploring the world, and spending as much time with her husband, kids, and fur babies as possible. If Brandy can’t be found, it’s okay, she’s not lost. She’s frolicking in the woods somewhere and will return for tacos eventually.
After years of being an outcast in the shadow world things are finally looking up for Racquel. She has saved the shadow world from the powerful witch Cerelia. Racquel is a hybrid in a world where many still believe mixing the bloodlines should result in banishment or worse. The shadow world is made up of Vampires, Witches, Shape shifters, Lykens, Fairies, and other mystical creatures who hide among humans. She finally has someone like her when she returns with Micah a human boy altered by Cerelia's experiments using Raquel's blood. A boy that she has fallen in love with. Unfortunately these victories don't last long. Micah has been called to face the council who believe that he was in league with Cerelia and wishes to continue her legacy. Raquel is determined to protect him and decides now is the time to challenge the council over the race law the prohibits the mixing of the bloodlines and prevents many of her friends from being with those they love. However, many are not ready for change and others have hidden agendas. Can Racquel save Micah from the council? Can she have the unjust law changed? Can she once again save the world from the destruction that is soon to follow?
I was excited to read this book when I learned of it's release after reading the other 2 books in the shadow series. Brandy Nacole once again did not disappoint me. I loved this book and was captivated until the end. I lost many hours of sleep because I had trouble putting it down. I highly recommend this book for all readers especially if you enjoy fantasy, dystopian or teen reads. This book has something for everyone and is guaranteed not to disappoint.
The trilogy just kept getting better with each novel and significantly less errors than the first one as well. It wrapped up everything from the first two with a smashing ending. I guess in the end love always prevails somehow and in someway.
I loved getting to know Micah more and seeing his point of view after being saved by Racquel and the other Shadows, only to be put on trial as a spy so to speak for the evil witch Cerelia. Micah has a lot of conflict, especially where he stands in the Shadow World, a world he despised growing up as nothing more than a slave to them. Now with their blood flowing in his veins, he's confused and most of all - disgusted.
Racquel is more than confident that she will get Micah out from under the eyes of the Shadow leaders. She knows Micah is good and would never conspire with Cerelia. Racquel and the others gear up to go face the council, but Racquel is not only going to testify for Micah, she's also going to challenge the race law - a law established not in the beginning of their creation but many years later, but no one knows why. This law has left many alone, since the races are to stay pure and clans like the witches have few males to marry. It's also the cause of her pain. If it wasn't for that law, she would have never went through the hell that she has went through since she's an extreme hybrid. Because of that law, Racquel's family has been shunned in the Shadow World.
But when the Fairy Queen's prophecy comes to light for Racquel, the pain may be too much for Racquel to continue her fight.
Sacrifice: A New Dawn was an amazing read and it wrapped the whole series up wonderfully. I will definitely be reading more from Brandy Nacole.
If you're a fan of paranormal romance, fantasy, action, and page gripping stories, this is a great series for you. I highly recommend it.
