Review

Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote in his poem ‘In Memoriam:27′, 1850:

I hold it true, whate’er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
‘Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

Well Penelope Jones in Iniquitous Solace: The Aftermath delves into love and the loss of it, better yet the fracture of it. Part of this compilation of poems was published in an earlier edition Iniquitous Solace with another poet named Max. Now Ms. Jones has revamped her book; Max is gone and she comes out swinging and bearing her soul to the world.

I kept hearing the Chumbawamba song Tubthumper chorus ‘I get knocked, down but I get up again. You’re never gonna keep me down.” Nothing keeps Ms. Jones down either. Her pain is apparent in her prose, and I am glad I’m not on the receiving end of her ire. We have all been where Ms. Jones has been, and we are all stronger for it. Heartache in real life, I might add, is a b**ch Lord Tennyson.

I'm new to erotic poetry, a combination I'd never really considered much before I came across Penelope Jones' darkly passionate Iniquitous Solace: The Aftermath. To be honest, I wasn't really sure how it would work. Good poetry is sparse, relying on exactly the right words to paint a picture with minimal strokes, the rhythm of the words and the shapes they make on the page and in your mind adding layers to that picture, deepening and enriching it.

Erotica strives to use the right words but, to be blunt, it uses a Hell of a lot more strokes to paint that picture! Good erotica builds up and teases, and describes; it fills in the gaps that poetry leaves.

The poetry of Penelope Jones combines the best of both forms, deftly drawing the reader in deep with beautiful economy and leading the way through a story of longing, uncertainty, vulnerability. The poetry is often harsh and crude, but it's a crudeness wielded quite deliberately, a rawness that is channelled to striking effect. Iniquitous Solace: The Aftermath is full of poems with a dark, sensuous edge, a sequence of pieces that draws the reader into a fragmented portrait of a woman's journey through need and desire, through being wanted and dominated and abandoned. It's moving and powerful, explicit and erotic, and ultimately, defiant and spirited.

And highly recommended.

This is a brave book that is not afraid to take you on a journey, a relationship that started in the shadows and ended in pain and loss. The highs will have you soaring, the lows will have you saddened, hoping the author finds her better tomorrow. She doesn't hold any punches, and the words flow with raw intensity, including everything we have all felt in a doomed relationship that we thought was The Relationship. Life takes turns, and so does this book with emotional and sexual highs and lows. One thing is for sure, you won't stop turning the pages to find out how she ends up feeling in the end. Open this book, make a friend, and listen to her heartfelt words as she talks about love won and lost and the Aftermath left behind.

I really do enjoy this authors writing. Often you can read a piece of poetry and it's good, but this author, she makes me think 'wow' how can these words touch me so. What Miss Jones expresses through her poetry is hard-hitting honesty, everything laid bare and open. Its extremely erotic, full of happiness and sadness, anger and bitterness. Every emotion is open and they hit you. Finding love, losing love....'we've all been there' You'll sail along with all the lust and passion and then feel the devastation and hurt. A touching story. I'm a dedicated follower of this talented writer and I highly recommend.

I had the honor of reading an advanced copy of this poetry book. It is every bit as wonderful as the original (sadly, now unpublished) Iniquitous Solace only this time it has an oomph to it that speaks of a soul emerging from a cacoon and ready to soar. It is full of beauty, anger, angst, sorrow, fire, passion and most of all, hope and determination. I highly recommend this book! (Note: It does contain adult sexual content, and references to BDSM.)

I won this on a blog hop about a month ago and have fallen in love with it. It's such a beautifully written book of poetry, honest and real - just real if you know what I mean. The introduction by the author had me emotional and I knew I was in for something special. I read one or two poems before bed each night and sometimes just re-read them. I think it's just the fact that the author was willing to share so much emotion so openly with us. A lovely read, unique and special.

I've never been much of a poetry fan until now. Penelope has made a new convert. Beautiful words about one woman's journey. A cornucopia of emotions.Join her as she write about Love, anger, heartache and passion. It's all told in great poetic style.
Hot erotica with an emphasis towards BDSM.
The words flow beautifully and pull you in.
Share with a loved one, as I did. Read it to each other.
I was already a fan of this Author, but this book cemented it!
