Waking Up Dead

Waking Up Dead is a paranormal romance.
Suri is a necromancer, or an animator, as she calls herself; she raised her cat from death when she was a young child and she has recently raised a vampire. Suri can also teleport and she has the ability to read others through psychometry.
The vampire she raised is now ‘bound’ to her, unless Suri can find a way to release him. Add to this some ruthless gargoyles and a smattering of other paranormal creatures, and this is a quirky little tale.
The storyline is fast paced and dialogue-led; at times it left me quite exhausted especially with its bare bones of descriptive passages. I found the two main characters hard to connect with; I do find that I enjoy a story more if I can gain some empathy with characters, as it keeps me invested in the tale.
I’m on the fence about the author’s choice of capital letter usage. It may be a stylistic choice but if this is the case then it needs to be very perfectly executed throughout the book and there were too many cases when these were missed. There were also a few too many jarring dialogue tags.
Overall, I liked the premise of this story, but I think it would benefit from some rework with an experienced editor.

Phenomenal!!!
I am no stranger to the magical writings of K.A. Masterson! I have loved every single one of her works, and this one is no different. I literally could not stop reading it. Her characters come to life and grab you and won't let go!! I can't wait for more!

This was a different style then what I'm used to, but I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next.

When I accepted this book my response was, "Waking up Dead sounds just weird enough to be interesting." After reading it, I would have to agree that my statement was correct.
Suri is a Ternion, with powers that make her both rare and highly sought after, so she tries to fly under the radar. She is a kindhearted woman, who has based everything she'd done her entire life on limiting how and when she used her gifts. She did not want to get used for them.
Kilian is sent to kill her, but she thinks he's protecting her from the Gargoyles, so when they kill him, she uses her necromancer abilities and brings him back. It was the least she could do for someone who gave his life for her, but that was before she knew the truth. Once she realized what she'd done she just wanted to leave him and run away.
Imagine being the mistress to the vampire who tried to kill you. She isn't happy and he fights her will at every turn. Only getting reprieve when his demon side is at the forefront. They both want the bond broken, yet the journey they take to get that information is not exactly a straightforward one. They get abducted, have a pretty stellar escape, then find themselves in another predicament. Add in a werewolf destined to be an Alpha and it'll wrap up the weird and interesting storyline that is this book.
It does end on a semi-cliffhanger, and I for one, cannot wait for the story to continue. If you want to read something with a new and interesting twist, then I fully suggest you try this one.

This was one hell of a read, I love everything and anything to do with paranormal romance, so I was jumping on it the moment I could. And I'm so glad I did.
It's such a rollercoaster ride that's full of twists and turns you don't see coming. We get taking on a wild journey with Suri and kilian. There was never a dull moment. I couldn't put it down once I started. It's a fast paced quick story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's action packed with a great storyline, plot and characters, also includes mystery, secrets, journeys, banter and drama. It features a necromancer, vampire, werewolf and more.
Suri is a very powerful necromancer that has kept a low profile. But some people ain't happy and send kilian a vampire too unalive her. But things don't go to plan, the gargoyles kill him, she thinks he was saving her and then brings him back to life and a bond is formed. But when she learns the truth she ain't happy. And they just want the bond gone. So the fun journey begins.
It ends on a little cliffhanger. Can't wait to see what the author does next . Highly recommend!

I had the opportunity to read this book before its release, and I’m so glad I did! From the very beginning, I was hooked. Suri, who proudly calls herself an animator, is such a unique and refreshing character. When Kilian is introduced—sent to kill her, no less—it was a twist I definitely didn’t see coming. And then? Gargoyles enter the scene, instantly giving me nostalgic childhood comfort TV show vibes.
Suri believes Kilian is trying to save her, even though that’s far from the truth. But when he’s killed, she brings him back to life, unintentionally creating a powerful bond between them. As the truth unravels, Suri wants nothing to do with him and is determined to break the bond. Their journey to do so takes them through a world filled with danger, from Gargoyles to Werewolves, all while navigating their complicated connection.
The slight cliffhanger at the end left me hopeful and eager for more. I’m incredibly grateful I had the chance to read this captivating story early—it's a wild, magical ride from start to finish.

I read this book a while back and forgot to review like a ding bat! I loved this book when i read it i am madly in love with book that have necromancers in the i think raising something from the dead is cool as hell! Well Suri is the necromancer in this case a she is a Trip i love her character. Well she gets in a mess when she raises a vampire Fremont the dead that was sent to kill her cause of her necromancer powers.This is a wild paranormal book that kept me hanging on to the edge of my seat the whole time i read it. I also love the sue of different supernatural characters in this book. There were necromancer, vampire, werewolf, and a succubus. That’s one thing i can honestly say about K.A.Masterson she uses the paranormal and supernatural to write some freaking amazing book. I was so grateful i read it cause this was a phenomenal book!!

This was an incredible novel filled with hot Vampires, a curvy Necromancer, a witty Werewolf, and even a gorgeous Succubus. But even though it's an enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance, the characters were relatable, the storyline was original, and it ends with the certainty that there will be a Book 2 to tell the story of Tobias (although honestly I hope it's about Tyran and the jaguar shifter who wants nothing to do with him haha).

Once again KA Masterson hits it out of the park with this amazing read. I couldn’t get enough of Suri and Killian, and on this journey they go on to try and break the bond that was accidently formed. The question is will they drive each other nuts or get killed before they succeed. It’s a ride worth taking.

A curvy girl you can relate to! Masterson doesn't steamroll over the everyday struggles, and I loved it! It was a laughfest! Like I laughed anew at almost every new paragraph. Such a refreshing take on vampires, and necromancers! I picked it up and didn't put it down til the end! Can't wait for the next!

This book was suggested to me by a good friend and I am so glad I listened! Kilian and Suri had far from a conventional relationship and their meet-cute will definitely raise eyebrows when people ask how they met😂 But it's absolutely a story worth reading again and again💜

There is a lot going on in this book. Different superparnomal creatures. Enemies to loves, new alliances... somewhat hard to keep up if you're not paying attention but a good start to a series.

Captivating and intense!
Waking Up Dead is a dark, thrilling read with unforgettable characters. Suri and Kilian’s bond is gripping, the stakes are high, and the twists keep coming. A perfect mix of supernatural suspense and emotional depth. Loved it!

A necromancer, a vampire, a deadly bond, and a secret that could destroy them both? This is the kind of high-stakes supernatural tension I crave. I already know this story’s going to wreck me in the best way.
