Doll: A Short Story is an eerie tale of the supernatural.
Many years ago, a little girl was tragically killed while holding onto her doll. Now the doll has found a new owner...
Karen Parker comes home one afternoon to find an old, creepy doll staring at her with cold, evil eyes. She finds out that her young daughter, Kyla, brought it home from a field trip to a museum. What Karen doesn't know is that the doll chose her daughter and as disturbing incidents occur, it becomes clear that this doll is more than just a toy.
Kyla brings back a creepy doll from a school outing. She says the doll was given to her by someone named Rosie. Her mother decides to bring back the doll to the museum it came from. There she hears a sinister story about the doll and her former owner. I really enjoyed this creepy short story about this evil doll. It was well composed and had a nice twist at the end. Really recommended!
Rating: 4/5 A very entertaining horror/mystery story. I wish it was a bit longer. This could be done into a good feature film. Well done Elissa Drake for the nice story and suspenseful atmosphere
I just happen to love evil, abandoned doll stories - and this one was perfect. There are quite a few out there, but that's okay. The characters were very realistic, the mother, the two daughters ... especially the doll. The author made me feel I was right in there with them, worrying, shivering, shaking, trying to figure out what to do.
There was that moment towards the end when I did not understand who Rosie was, it was a bit confusing. I thought she was ... murdered? All in all though I really enjoyed this story and will be reading it again, for the atmosphere alone, on Halloween or on any cold foggy night when I will be wanting a great horror story!
I was in the mood to read a scary story and I saw that Amazon was offering free downloads of this one. Since stories about dolls are inherently creepy, I decided to give it a chance.
I thought the story was pretty good. The ending was especially creepy, and felt original. I thought that the story was a little short, but since this is a short story, I should have expected that.
Doll is a fairly standard possessed doll-type story. It didn't wow me, but I liked it. Great for fans of Goosebumps and younger readers being introduced to horror, but mature enough to please adult audiences as well.
