Unbridled by Cheryl Brooks is a cute little romance book. It involves Travis, a farrier, and Miranda, a nurse. They meet at Nigel's stable where Miranda takes dresssge lessons. She has a 22 year old autistic son. Miranda admires Travis from afar but feels he's too young. Travis has a crush on Miranda but thinks she's still married, when actually she's been a widow for 15 years. When they finally connect the fireworks fly.
This is a really sweet love story of unlikely lovers. I loved the respect that Travis had in him from the beginning, even though he was fighting to keep it. Miranda is funny and straightforward about most things, but some of her ways were irritating. They had some love making like no other, to say the least. I think I should buy peanut butter more often ;) Glad they took a chance and I'm satisfied with the ending. Go Levi! Without him, it wouldn't have happened. Good story.
Hey, I wrote it. Of course I like it! This one is a little hotter than my Cat Star books, as are all of the books in this series. The next two (Uninhibited and Undeniable) will be available soon!
What more would woman want, than coming home from the hospital with broken ribs, and a guy shoving his 'manhood' in her face to suck. Every girls dream - NOT!!
Miranda worked on my nerves. She still wore her wedding ring and talked about her son, Levi, like he was her husband, what were people supposed to think, especially Travis: “But you still wear a wedding ring.” “It took me forever to get over Kris’s death. I didn't want anyone else at first, and later on, I wore it to keep men away for a different reason. Levi is mildly autistic and has some learning disabilities. You hear about stepfathers and boyfriends beating up on kids from previous marriages all the time. I couldn't risk it.”
Um, ok.. but She didn't tell Travis she was available, what was he supposed to think? So Miranda, maybe instead of your "age" being an issue, maybe Travis had an issue with hitting on a married women?
Miranda is 45 and Travis is 36, I got so tire of her harping on the age difference: 1.) “You're such a sweet boy, taking care of a banged-up old woman like this.” 2.) “You must've taken care of sick old women before.” 3.) “Don't mind me. I can be a crotchety old woman sometimes.” 4.) "Forget it, Miranda. You're too old for him." 5.) "One of these days you'll be as old as I am and realize you've never had any fun.” 6.) "I'm too old to compete in the Olympics, but the young ones still have the dream, and it means more to them." 7.) "As she spread it out over the mare’s broad back, she glanced up to see Travis straightening it from the other side. He’s certainly being helpful today. Must think the old girl looks tired." 8.) “Because I'm too old for you.” She was practically shouting. “I'm forty-five years old, and you're what? Thirty?”“Thirty-six, actually.”
And, that wasn't every quote, geesh...
Miranda was so insecure it was annoying, if it wasn't her age, then it was her worrying about getting fat or she kept doubting Travis: "Despite the phone call to check up on her, Miranda had the strangest feeling that she'd seen the last of Travis, and she was at a loss to explain why. He'd given her no reason to suspect that he was unhappy with their current arrangement, but that niggling little doubt persisted."
I really tried to give this book the benefit of the doubt, however, every time that I tried, Miranda did or said something else to annoy me. She was just way too restless and needy. I mean, she has a concussion and broken ribs, she should just sit her azz down somewhere, please..
I could not believe this was the same author that wrote the Star Cat Chronicles.
This romance does what Brooks does best--it mixes the utterly silly with the amazing emotionally powerful.
Those of you who have read her Cat Star Series will recognize all the signs in this contemporary romance.
Some of you will hate this book but others of you will adore it. I liked it. It made me laugh.
On the silly side, the hero's man part is very active. It is often in her face (he talks about this lol) and it like the cat aliens leaks a bit.
Our heroine falls and hits her head and has some very important memory loss.
The hero thinks the heroine is married. Big moral dilemma. She is not.
The emotionally powerful...
The leads adore each other as friends and then as lovers. The heroine's adult son is on the autism spectrum and mothering done in this book is excellent.
This was a tough one. There were things I liked and others that I did not care about. I was not too thrilled with how long it took for Travis to find out Miranda was widowed. I mean come on...at some point a few very pointed questions would have figured that out. Then after the first explosive encounter she hits her head and forgets the whole thing? Yeah not cool either. I liked the dynamics of his encounters with her son and how willing he was to get to know him. I didn't care for the matchmaking efforts instead of putting herself out there. I would have liked to have seen more interaction with Travis's family and Miranda. She didn't even meet his brother until the wedding. I like this author's Cat Chronicles but so far have not been as involved with her other endeavors. They don't seem to be as fleshed out as the Cats.
This book was a nice surprise. I didn't read any reviews or even the description, I got the recommendation from Three Chicks and their Books on Facebook. This book had depth to the characters and was a joy to read. I particularly enjoyed the changing point of view from the male character to the female character. It gave insight that you don't normally get to learn. It was very enjoyable and I would highly recommend it.
Is this book for real? The storyline could've made up for a great book but I felt like I was on heavy drugs reading it. The woman just came from the hospital with a concussion, broken ribs and a bad knee and he's selfish enough to ask for a BJ? Really? Ugh! Painful to read!!! I'm not even bothering with the next one.
Really enjoyed this book. It is great to read a story of mature romantic leads. I also like the idea for Miranda being nine years older than Travis. I had a Great Aunt that was nine years older than my Great Uncle they had this amazing marriage. So Miranda and Travis's story tugged at my heart. A beautiful love story filled with doubt, emotions, some humour, steamy sex and lots of love.
not the best but definitely not the worst. slow at times. instead of wanting to enjoy reading it I was wanting it to hurry up and finish. that's really not the feeling I want to experience when I'm investing my time in the pages. my impatience ran out several times and I helped things along by skimming....quite a bit actually.
I enjoyed the story and the attraction as well as how the author explores the relationship. The chemistry is super hot and the pages sizzled! The book progressed at a steady pace and I recommend it for a fast paced fun read. All the characters and situations are well written. Fast, fun and scorching!!
I got a free copy of this book from flipkart ebooks. Views are my own.
DNF - I am going to stop wasting my time with characters I could not care less about and the most enthusiastic fellatio-giver character I have ever read. Seriously, I think it's her most favoritest thing evah! If this couple had some actual chemistry that might work, but they have zero.
Very sweet book. Had some giggles and sugary sweet spots. A book that shows there are such things as second chances. Miranda deserves a second chance and Travis learns something's are not as they appear.
This was free so I didn't lose any money just time. It started out promising but went south FAST! Wasn't for me. UGH! I think I'll read a book from my favorites To flush this junk from my brain. UGH!
Well, its not the worst book I have ever read. And it was free! But it is like a very early Mills and Boon with some smiley scenes. I found that the internal monologues were very angsty and boring but, overall, a sweet story.
A full book! Not one of those fifty page or less books. I really enjoyed the story and some of the characters to want to read more. I'm going to try to get more by this author. The story had some complex issues in it and was well rounded. I'm glad I read this book.
Great, light romantic read with a believable story. I especially liked the way she portrayed the slightly autistic son, because she got his behavior, mannerisms, & personality so well. Good for bedroom reading!
It was running a little slow in the reading and my interest was gone. It needs more drama or something to keep my interest. Otherwise it could be an excellent book
Very hot, a very nice romance, and a wonderful tackling of the 'cougar' syndrom. I love all Cheryl's books, and her 'Cat star Chronicles' are fabulously erotic!
Just because it's rated a three does not mean I don't want to read the next book. Just that there were moments I was impatient for the characters to move on.
Yeah, it was ok. Didn't knock me off my socks. Couldn't picture somebody who didn't have any action in bed for 15 years yet knew how to play and please her man.... He was really sweet, though....
