With beautifully expressive, witty illustrations and an appealing contemporary design, this book shows kids how much fun it is to be bilingual by introducing them to a teeny-tiny dog who is fluent in English and Polish—and even dreams in both languages. Anyone who has ever known and loved a pet will instantly recognize Minutka's favorite she shakes paw, snatches socks, runs in circles, and has fun around the house and garden with her family and friends. Readers don't need to know Polish (or even be children) to be entranced by this lovable dog.
This book is absolutely delightful! I learned Italian in college, but I don't get much practice in Kansas. I'll take any chance I get to experience Italian language, and as a Children's librarian, this book was perfect for me! I read it at home with my partner—he read the English lines and I the Italian (What? Adults can read picture books, too!). With whimsical, adorable illustrations, this book is perfect for sparking interest in a new language for kids (or for kids who are already bilingual!).
Goodreads doesn't show the version I have: Chinese-English! :) Yeah! The book really is a celebration of bilingualism. It has both Chinese characters and 'pinyin', making it enjoyable and accessible for children/adults who already know Chinese or are just learning it.
I read the Italian version, but it is not listed on Goodreads. It is a sweet story with adorable pictures. A fun way to practice a second (or third) language.
