Everybody’s chasing Victory: a power-hungry scientist, a corrupt conglomerate, and her own government.
Victory Winters is on the run. A world-renowned geneticist, her mission involves conquering disease and improving quality of life. But a co-worker has been murdered, putting Victory and her mission in danger. Chasing her are all sorts of men who want to recruit and control her, manipulating her genetic secrets and research for their own corrupt purposes.
Naval officer Tristan Farraday is undercover investigating Biotec, a conglomerate that trumpets a better tomorrow in its bright, shiny annual reports. But Tristan’s bosses suspect that beneath Biotec’s carefully-managed exterior lies more than simple violations of a few experimental protocols.
Farraday is following a trail of murder, kidnapping, and blackmail. The trail leads him to Victory, who has been forced into Biotec’s world. Can Tristan chase down the truth and win the race for Victory?
She’s a brilliant, beautiful and intriguing geneticist currently researching canine DNA and its potential benefits for humans. She also has a secret, she can communicate with animals, but unlike her fantasy equivalent, all is not song and dance. Victory is on the run, trying to stay just one step ahead of a conglomerate that wants to use her research for vile purposes. Blackmailed into working for them, Victory is taken to an island paradise, most likely with only a one way ticket, unless undercover Naval Officer, Tristan Farraday can figure out a way to stop the research and save Victory. Gifted with extremely powerful hearing, what will Tristan discover to aid in his rescue? They say the walls can whisper secrets, is it true
Joanne Jaytanie’s Chasing Victory has its share of violence, but in all, it is a quieter paranormal romance, not meek, but controlled while allowing a budding romance between Tristan and Victory to grow. With all of the talk of DNA in the news these days, this makes a perfect fantasy escape into a world where science and intrigue make a vivid contrast to romance between two people whose DNA obviously is compatible! A light suspense novel with a touch of the paranormal, captivating scenes and villains that are easy to hiss at, all while cheering and sighing for both Tristan and Victory! I enjoyed the pace, the characters and Ms. Jaytanie's style of writing, simply fabulous!
I received this copy from Joanne Jaytanie in exchange for my honest review.
My Rating: 4.5 Stars Series: The Winters Sisters - Book 1 Publisher: Joanne Jaytanie; 2 edition (July 31, 2016) Publication Date: July 31, 2016 Genre: Paranormal | Scifi| Romance Print Length: 322 pages Available from: Amazon | Barnes & Noble For Reviews & More: http://tometender.blogspot.com
Edge of your seat action packed, emotional thrill ride of a romantic adventure filled with danger, powerful secrets and a extraordinary human flare.
Victory is sexy, sassy, strong and brilliant. Tristan is an alpha male with both beauty and intelligence. They have so much in common including some extraordinary abilities not every human has. Thrown together in on a dangerous mission to bring down a corrupt organization that is experimenting on humans and changing their DNA. Not only do they make an awesome team but their chemistry is undeniable. Loved every heart pounding, exciting twist and turn.
WOW!! This is the kind of debut novel that every author dreams about writing! Chasing Victory is perfect and masterful blending of science fiction, romance, and the paranormal into one tight perfectly delivered book. Page after page, I found myself becoming more and more engrossed with the story and its characters. You can even ask my husband when I tell you that he missed a meal because of this book. I think one of the biggest reasons why this book resonated with me so much is that it pulls on my career heart strings as I am a cancer research scientist. It’s not often that you see a bit of science thrown into a book such as this. Joanne’s characters are very well thought out and developed. Her hero is the perfect balance of intelligence, brass, and sex appeal. Tristan will melt your panties off with a smile while boggling you with his wit and intelligence. Yet, I am pulled more towards Victory. She’s special to me both in the sheer fact she’s a sassy female scientist (YOU GO GIRL) and her additional abilities. I have often wondered what my cats or puppies are thinking at times and she gets to do that!! Outside of Dr. Doolittle and the wild world of werewolves and shifters, do you ever see a human woman with these kinds of abilities!! Braxton is the perfect anti-hero. He’s willingly to do whatever it takes for his company and his ideals to succeed including kidnapping a woman and forcing her to work on her pet project. Just the sheer evilness of man who threatens peoples live in the name of science just screams evil genius to me! Joanne Jaytanie has delivered the perfect paranormal romance & suspense novel. Like me, I bet you’ll find it difficult to put it down. So before you pick this one up, and I know you will, you might want to just clear your calendar for a few hours. I look forward to reading by Joanne!
Chasing Victory is a page-turner that weaves paranormal with suspense and romance. Besides the well-developed characters, readers will be charmed by the Dobermans. Give this first book in the series a try. I'm glad I did.
This book kept me turning those pages with out wanting to put it down. Loved how the dog world became part of the book. As a dog person, I can relate to the emotions of the dogs, how you could "see" them as the story went along and you could become a part of the family.
Great first novel by author Joanne Jaytanie! I read the whole book in two sittings--I couldn't put it down! I am already looking for the next in her series. Chasing Victory has a great story line that has just enough suspense and intrigue to keep you on the edge of your seat. Loved it!
This is the first book by Joanne Jatanie I have read and I have to say that I am impressed. I loved this book. It was a great read earning 5 Stars from me!
In this first book of the series, it starts off with Victory Winters. Victory is a world known geneticist and one of the triplet Winters Sisters. She witnesses her friend Jeffery get shot and she is scared and on the run. Then right after Tristan Farraday, hot sexy undercover Naval officer of elite government team, picks up her trail. He is trying to figure out what see saw and if she is involved. Then she is kidnapped and Tristen is trying to rescue her and find out what she knows. Can she trust him? Can he find out her true purpose? Is she involved in the murder of Jeffery?
I just have to say that this book is straight up action from page one. I loved every minute of it. Joanne Jaytanie has a great start to the series here. She has laid out the land of the plot and is continuing to build on it. The characters she has introduced so far are amazing. Tristan and Victory are so electric and mesmerizing. They have a magnetic chemistry. They are well matched together in this adventure. Two incredibly smart individuals, with a strong connection. It is not exactly a cliff hanger per say, but I am captivated and must know what happens next. I had a hard time putting this book down and am so excited to read the next book in the series. There is kidnapping, blackmail, murder, sex and amazing abilities. The story is so exciting and contagious. A truly great read. I am a definite new fan!!!! If you are looking for an action adventure thriller, then this is the book for you

I happily endorse this story to any and all who are looking for a fiction enjoyable read and a completely different experience than anyone could imagine on their own. ¡Great book!
This was an action packed, thrilling read. Victory is a geneticist with telepathic abilities. She receives a call from a former classmate and goes to meet them. Then the drama unfolds, she witnesses a murder and is now on the run. Be prepared for murder, mystery and intrigue. I really want the rest of the series now!! Couldn't put it down.
A dangerous suspense novel that kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the high risk and tension throughout the book. The characters were relatable and entertaining to read. Their chemistry was tangible and they just fit together perfectly. I recommend this story to paranormal suspense lovers who enjoy romance, action and adventure.
Chasing Victory is a delightful debut novel by first-time author Joanne Jaytanie.
Our beautiful protagonist, Victory Winters, is a veterinarian and geneticist specializing in molecular biology for Claremont Research in Poulsbo, Washington. She also has a special innate ability she keeps secret: she has almost a telepathic gift to communicate with animals. As head of her department, she’s currently researching canine DNA and its potential benefits to humans.
Then one day, Victory receives a cryptic call from Jeffrey, an old friend and colleague who she hasn’t seen or spoken to in 5 years. Like her, he’s also a veterinarian and geneticist working for a competitor company, Biotec. Jeffrey insists he needs her help and asks her to meet him in a picnic spot. But, to her horror, once there she secretly witnesses his murder.
Soon after, she’s approached by a representative of Biotec with an offer to work for them. They claim that Jeffrey is working overseas, and they want her to take his place. Though she doesn’t trust them, she decides to play along in order to investigate her friend’s murder. But things go unexpectedly wrong when instead she’s kidnapped to a secluded island and forced to do research, injecting humans with wolf DNA. Unbeknown to Victory at first, the madman CEO wants to create the perfect invincible army.
Thus, Victory is soon pulled into a vortex of intrigue, blackmail and murder. Together with the hero, Tristan Farraday, a naval officer who also has telepathic abilities and who is sent undercover to investigate Biotec’s experiments, Victory must find a way to stop the company from carrying out their horrific plans and to get out of the island alive.
This was a fun, light, entertaining read! They story is compelling and the hero and heroine sympathetic. Victory is intelligent, yet caring and sensitive. Tristan is the perfect combination, not too alpha, not too soft. The action moves at a pretty quick pace, and there’s a lot of action and romantic suspense to keep readers turning pages. One thing I especially enjoyed about this story is that the love between Victory and Tristan develops gradually and organically. I certainly look forward to reading more works from this author. Recommended for fans of paranormal romance!
This full length-novel, the first in the Winter Sisters series, focuses on Victory, a leading researcher in the field of genetics. She is very close to her sisters as they continue to build on the legacy left to them by their parents. Their family foundation continues to move advances further in the field of human/canine genetics with Victory leading the charge. An unexpected call from an old school friend begins a sequence of events she struggles to make sense of. Biotec, another company in the same field, is willing to go to any lengths to have Victory on their team – including kidnapping. At the same time, Tristan Farraday, a member of a secret government team of operatives, is assigned to find out what Biotec is up to. Tristan and Victory meet under intense situations and each are suspicious of the other as it’s hard to see who the friends and enemies are. Brought together under incredible circumstances, would their attraction for each other grow or would suspicion and doubt stop it in its tracks? Would they survive to enjoy their own happily ever after?
This is my first read by this author and it has all the elements I love; strong male and female characters combined with a fast-paced plot. Add to that enough intrigue to keep one guessing. Victory faces a lot of adversity head on without crumbling under the stress and pressure. She is smart and looks at the craziness coming at her with a clinical mind – no vapors for this gal! Tristan is everything you would want in an alpha – strong, handsome, resourceful and protective to the extreme. There are many characters in this story but the length allows the story to develop at the right pace while revealing more about each player along the way. There were so many things I enjoyed about this story I’m not sure why I couldn’t give it five stars. Perhaps the intensity between Victory and Tristan was secondary to the story? Regardless, definitely a recommended read and I’m looking forward to meeting Willow and learning more about Payton.

Some novels pose a problem when it comes to rate them, and it’s the case here. Chasing Victory is the first volume in the Winters Sisters series, it has been published in 2013 but the author reproposed it to be reviewed on NetGalley this year. The third volume, about the last sister, hasn’t been published yet.
Victory is a geneticist recruited by force by Biotec for not very legal researches. She comes across Tristan, member of a Special Ops unit, who happens to be investigating Biotec, and she’ll team up with him to bring the company down.
Victory is geneticist, acupuncturist and osteopath for dogs, she also have a hyper developed hearing, a talent of empathy with animals that turns out to be telepathic, in short that’s a lot for one person. In spite of this she appears nice, sometimes a bit naïve, and she isn’t big-headed. There is some kind of vagueness about how and why she has these extrasensory abilities, but I guess there will be more answers in the rest of the series. Tristan too has a “too much” side: soldier, possessor of five degrees which allow him to pose as a biologist, he also has extrasensory abilities namely a hyper developed sense of smell and a talent of telepathy with his twin brother. The problem is that we don’t know really where these abilities come from or how long he has had them.
The story in itself is interesting and relatively well thought, and I was frustrated not to know how the guinea pigs will get through, but we must save some elements for the next volumes. The romance is likeable even if it’s not passionate, but it’s rather obvious from the start. However it’s too bad the style and the execution are sometimes clumsy. It’s where the touch of a professional publisher would perhaps have been useful.
So here I am with a novel I don’t know how to rate. 2/5 seems too harsh, because there are positive points and it can be read easily, but it’s not on par with the novels to which I gave 3/5.
Victory Winters works at Claremont Research and is asked to meet an old friend named Dr.Jeffrey Maxwell when she watches him get murdered by an unknown man and Detective Ken Howard, who investigated the murder of one of Victory's co-workers. She realizes she may be in trouble, especially when she is taken against her will to a company called Biotec.
Tristan Farraday is a Marine and part of the Special Operations Command (SOCAM) that has been investigating Biotec. Tristan realizes he must get Victory to trust him as the two begin to work together to figure out what Biotec is working on.
Victory and Tristan have no idea what they have stumbled into and soon they realize that Biotec does not operate on the same level playground as other companies and the boss, Lawrence Braxton, will stop at nothing to obtain what he wants. When there are other lives at stake, including Collin and Morgan, Tristan and his crew must do what it takes to keep everyone safe and not jeopardize the safety of everyone involved.
Wow - this book had so many twists and turns I had no idea what was coming next!! This book definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't put the book down.
I loved the paranormal part of the book as it is something that I can truly see happening with testing on humans without any knowledge. I loved the bonds that were created and it was really well done that we were all discovering everything at the same time.
I loved Victory and her sisters. They all appear to be strong women yet they also know that they are not invincible. Victory went through so much in this book and I'm glad that her and Tristan were able to bond over what they were going through and the trust they put in each other.
Tristan and his crew were awesome! I loved reading about what Noah and Logan were also going through on the island and their humor through it all. This group of men are great and so dedicated!
I felt so bad for Collin and Morgan and I really hope to learn more about the two of them as the series continues!
I am not sure what I expected from this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is an engaging story that is kind of light on the romance. Really terrific read!
Victory is a great character, she has sass and gumption. I love that she is smart enough to save herself most of the time. She has a terrific relationship with her sisters and I hope we see more of that over the series.
Tristan is yummy, I totally did a hero type. He is a perfect match for Victory. He is smart enough to let her have her independence but knows when to keep her safe. They have wonderful banter!
The romance takes a back seat to the genetics plot, but that didn't bother me because it was a great storyline. I would have liked a touch more of the history of both the girls and the Farraday twins. There are many holes in the story when it comes to their abilities. That may come to light over the course of the series.
Things do get steamy, open bedroom door but not full erotic detail. It is just yummy enough to make you fan your face a time of two. The love happens kinda fast, I believe liking but not full on love at this point.
This is a mixed narrative. my favorite! It is mostly the two leads POV, but there are many times when supporting cast chime in as well. Some of the transitions are a touch jumpy.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Robin Rowan, who is excellent! I loved her energy and the tone of her voice. She did a great job with both men and women. I was not thrilled with the sister's voice, hope that isn't how she does it in the next book. It would be tough to listen to a full 8 hours of that. She has a great pace that moves with the action of the story.
Overall, I am intrigued by this series and want to know more. I will definitely be jumping into the next book!

If so then you need to meet Victory Winters. Join her on her journey where she witnesses murder, is kidnapped and then blackmailed to work for a company called Biotec. This story starts off with action right from the beginning and will keep you turning the pages. Biotech is trying to cross animal and human DNA to enhance humans. Ms. Jaytanie even did a great job of making Victory's DNA research interesting and cutting edge. Victory has telepathic abilities with animals but soon learns to communicate telepathically with Tristen. They both learn more about their abilities throughout the story. Throw in some sexy romance between Victory and Tristen along with suspense and angst and you have a great story.
You will be invested in all the characters in the book from Tristen's brother and team mates to Victory's sisters and even the dogs. This is not the first time in reading this author but I could kick myself for not reading this one sooner. I have had it on my tbr for awhile and was in between books not quite sure what to read next but had several that needed to be read for review when I remembered this one and opened it up. That was all she wrote in a manner of speaking. After the first few pages I was so intrigued and the author had me snared. After the hair raising event she opens it up with I just had to see what Victory would do next. As you go along with her to her meeting up with her sister you realize just how special and different she is. I so enjoy reading characters that are unique in personality and combined with a storyline that is also unique for me that is a winning combination. When Tristan comes on the scene who is with a special secret group, he becomes another character to keep your eyes on. A group wants her bad, bad enough to get her anyway possible thanks to her expertise and knowledge. Tristan will be the one to partner with her in a very fitting way that when she is "working" for the bad guys there will be more of a fighting chance to bring em down. He too has his uniqueness that makes him the perfect match with her and over the course of time they will discover just how perfect they are together. Drama filled, secrets to uncover, having to stay one step ahead of the bad guys, with just the right level of romance couple with a storyline that keeps you with your nose to the pages forgetting your surroundings is a reader's paradise and that is what this author delivers. Now this author has certainly gone and done it though because now I am hooked on these sisters and their stories.
Joanne Jaytanie loves dogs, in particular Doberman Pinchers. If you did not know that from reading her biographical sketch, you would safely conclude it after reading the first book in the Winters Sisters series, “Chasing Victory”.
Victory Winters' natural gifts are in demand. She has a bright mind and is an expert in genetics research. The catch is, not everyone is willing to pursue her honestly to acquire those gifts for their use. Especially Biotec's CEO, Lawrence Braxton. She has other gifts, as well, ones not known to general population, including a telepathic ability.
Tristan and Wyatt Farraday have adjoining interests. Finding out what Biotec is up to, and finding out more about Victory Winters and her lovely sister, Payton – perhaps on more than a professional basis.
Some of the premises of this book, especially the research being done by Biotec, stretch the limits of how much a reader's imagination can expand. (No spoilers here.) BUT the grounding of the engaging characters (or evil of the villains), along with the wonderful Dobermans, easily overcome this issue and result in a good introduction to the novel.
I already have the second book in the series, and am curious what will be revealed in Payton's story.
RATING: 3 1/2 stars, rounded up to 4 stars.
DISCLOSURE: This book was provided free of charge as an “extra” in a random draw in which another book from the author was included. There was an implied request for an honest review, which you are reading now.
Victory receives a call from an ex saying he needs her help with something and to meet at their old picnic spot. When she gets there she ends up witnessing his death. Now she is on the run. She knows that they will be after her so she goes to her sister. She can sense that someone is following her. There is something more to Victory than meets the eye.
Tristan is Military and works under his brothers command. He was already following Victory's ex. Now his goal, since they now know Victory is innocent, is to keep Victory safe. There is also something special about Tristan and his brother. They are Telepathic. Turns out to keep Victory safe they end up having to work very close together after Victory is kidnapped and forced to work for the enemy. Turns out Victory is Telepathic also. Which may work in their favor.
Turns out Biotec, the bad guys, are experimenting with injecting canine DNA into humans and they now want Victory as they feel she is the most qualified person for the job. They were determined to get her help any way they could.
I LOVED this book! I wasn't sure what to expect really. Joanne throws some curves at you and keeps you on your toes! Once you start reading you don't want to put it down, at least I didn't. I'm highly anticipating book 2! I would definitely recommend reading this book!

Wow! Another fantastic must read for this talented author’s debut novel into paranormal romance!! ... I love her other genres, but she has helped make this a new favorite genre/subgenre for me ;) .... Once I started reading, I did not want to stop! ... This amazing story is packed with suspense, mystery, danger and romance with well developed good & evil characters, fabulous descriptions and non-stop action that keeps the reader engaged! ... It pulled me in from the start to the very end, then left me wanting more :o lol ... Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep turning pages last night, so that I could keep reading until I found out how it ended :o ...Also, being a dog lover and avidly against ‘Breed Discrimination’ (we have a pittie that’s more gentle than our cat ;) LOL I love how the Dobermans are woven into the story portraying them accurately as smart, loving pets!! ... “Hate the deed, Not the Breed!” ... So, I would like to thank the talented Ms. Jaytanie for adding that bonus & I can’t wait to read book 2 in this awesome series!! ... Even though I was given this to read in exchange for an honest review, I honestly loved it & highly recommend this book to all fiction lovers of any genre :)
This is a story of Victory Winters who is forced to work for Biotec, a genetics research facility in which it is the mixing of wolf DNA and human DNA with people who have extrasensory abilities. Victory ‘s own psychic abilities aid her as she finds a way to help the test subjects as well as saving her own skin. Working for a secret government agency, Tristan Farraday keeps a close eye on Victory and is able to insert himself into the dangerous situation she finds herself in, but the most dangerous mission of all is for the two of them to fall in love.
There is undeniable chemistry between Tristan and Victory, and once those feelings come to light, you can’t help but root for them to get together. They complement each other very well and it is entertaining watching their banter back and forth as well as the heat between them is undeniable.
This book does show promise and is a light paranormal read. For me, I would have liked to see them meet sooner and interact more than they did in the first 100 pages. Once I moved past that point, the story improved and moved faster as well. Also, there were several formatting and grammatical issues which can be easily fixed and will help to not detract the reader from the story.
Chasing Victory is so different from the other Books I have read from Joanne Jaytanie. This is the first book in the Winter Sister series, and if you like Military romance and and you like paranormal this is a good mix and has sweet moments and it has suspenseful moments that keep you turning the page and loving the characters. Victory Winters is a world-renowned geneticist and possesses the ability to communicate with animals on a deeper level then normal. She uses her ability to communicate with animal to help them while also wanting to find a way with her research to find a way to use canine DNA to help improve lives. Her knowledge and research gets her kidnapped to help his team with genetic manipulation. Tristan Farraday is part of a military group that is watching the research company that kidnapped Victory. Tristan is able to find a way to get thru to Victory and his team has a plan that is able to get him in and able to help her from the inside. Victory agrees to the plan, but doesn’t trust Tristan or his team. As they begin to work together, both Tristan and Victory make many discoveries about the experiments and each other. Will they be able to escape with out risking any more kidnappings or will they be stuck.
I was lucky enough to receive an A.R.C. of this but that does not colour my review in any way. ★★★★★ I could not put this down. A very fast paced story, full of fun , danger and a little hot romance. Both our hero and heroine are intelligent, strong and of course sexy. Victory is forced to work for people who are experimenting on human D.N.A. The powerful company seem to have limitless resources. Tristan has been tracking the people involved in this research and finds out about Victory. When they team up they discover the heightened abilities each have will help them out of more than a few difficult situations. The way Tristan can communicate with his brother and later with Victory comes in very handy. Victory's ability to understand the feelings of animals and her connection to the sounds around her are vital. I must admit to wishing the Dobermans had a more active role. Maybe they will in the next book. The secondary characters also make you yearn for more. I for one will be waiting very impatiently for the next sister's story.
Awesome slightly paranormal romance & suspense & My first audio book (Loved it) Victory is a scientist dealing with DNA and also telepathic. She knows what dogs are thinking and feeling. She is kidnapped by a ruthless Braxton, CEO of Biotec. He kidnaps her to do DNA testing with animals mixed with humans. He’s doing this to make a strong army of soldiers. He is a very evil man. Tristan, the sexy alpha hero, (along with his other alpha members) is investigating Biotec/Braxton in connection to his recent devious acts. Tristan goes in as Victory’s assistant. Does he rescue her and bring Braxton down?? You’ve got to read this book (or listen to it) to find out. It is a totally awesome slightly paranormal romance & suspense story. The author did a super job in portraying this story in a way that keeps you interested to the end. This was my very first audio book, and I really enjoyed it. I liked the audio version because I could listen to it while doing other things, like household chores.
